I have found My Heritage to be a little 'one sided' in that after having a problem with 'Record Searches' I spoke to a representative from My Heritage who told me he'd extend my membership by 2 weeks as he was unable to help and he would need to refer my problem to another area. I then had communications with another representative of My Heritage about the problem and when I asked him to confirm the 2 week extension he advised me my Data membership would be extended by only 1 week and my Premium Plus would not be extended at all. It's the Premium Plus which is the one mainly used and now I've lost almost 2 weeks because of the problem I was having. I find this to be poor public relations on behalf of My Heritage particularly as I have been a member for several years. After all, although I understand My Heritage offers the opportunity to build our family tree online, if not for 'us' members adding details of various family members they'd have little to offer in the first place!
Stay away from MyHeritage, its an unscrupulous, dishonest company with a misleading website. We received an offer of a 30 day Free Trial which said we could cancel at any time within the 30 day trial period and would not be charged. We signed up and they IMMEDIATELY (within minutes) charged our account $105. We cancelled the account and asked for a refund, but have not received one.
Dear David,
Thank you for your review here on SiteJabber.
MyHeritage does not have a 30 day free trial period for a subscription. We do have a 14 day free trial for our Data subscription and a 30 day money back guarantee.
Having said that I invite you to write to me from your registered MyHeritage email address to support@myheritage.com and also place my name in the subject line. This will ensure that you are forwarded to me and I will be more than happy to assist you.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

My Thank you for purchase email told me I had an annual bundle of data subscription plus Premium Plus for $99.95. It did not specify they were 2 different accounts. Bundle to me meant they were both under one account I went into the page for my account found where it said to cancel subscription which I did not understanding it did not cancel both accounts. With AT&T my accounts are bundled under one account if I call to cancel my account they would all be canceled. I got an email to tell me I had been charged for the data subscription for $119 the next day I called and complained they said I should have read the information which I know now to be true but I still feel it was not explained in the beginning email and I think only refunding half the amount they charged me for the account open one day is a real rip off. I would never use them again. I got tired of dealing with the customer service who blatted the company line and could not find an address to write a letter to the company.

I was very happy that My Heritage were able to convert the genealogy files that I created more than 10 years ago. It is a great service they provide and an excellent genealogy site to create and grow your family tree.

MyHeritage is an Israel based service with satellite offices in the US. If you are comfortable with sharing all of your family history with complete strangers including the DNA information as a result of collaboration between 23andMe then this is the site for you. I has fewer records, by a large margin, than Ancestry and my own personal experience with the company was less than satisfactory. However, my major complaint with all the online genealogical services is that you provide you do all the work by researching and recording your family tree and they then get to exploit that research for a profit. As a long time researcher, I find this model abhorrent. By all means use the service for research (I personally use Ancestry because of its much larger records base), but I record all of my data offline and make it available to proven relatives through my own website. A second reason is that many of the "family trees" that show up on these sites are very poorly researched and documented, are generally incorrect, and multiply to other branches of the family like a virus which only amplify the errors. In that respect, and in my opinion, the best genealogical software was The Master Genealogist (TMG) (now out of business) which I continue to use because of the power and flexibility of the database design. I also have Ancestry, Roots Magic, GRAMPS, and Legacy programs but do not use them because they are " amateurish" by comparison. Although I self-host my own website, the best genealogical software for online genealogical research that I have found is "Webtrees" a free and feature rich program that rivals any of the commercial programs. The operator(s) of Webtrees offer web-hosting services for an acceptable price. In my opinion, if you are a serious researcher, get a copy of TMG and read TMG Tips to see the power of the database model, or use Webtrees to develop your family tree. Only use the online services for research - don't let them exploit your work to attract more unwary customers and fatten their bottom line!
Dear R. L,
Thank you for your review here on SiteJabber.
I would firstly like to mention that we do not share any DNA information at MyHeritage as we are bound by international privacy laws and thus a user can not publish this information to their family site or tree.
Our database is growing everyday and we are constantly uploading new materials as it becomes available and or digitized. For this we have a dedicated team that is working all around the world striking up deals with new firms and data holders in order to acquire the most up to date and correct information.
MyHeritage does not exploit users information for profit as we provide a platform only for people to create family trees. Yes we do have research tools/technologies and one of the worlds leading genealogical software's that are constantly being upgraded.
All of the above require man power, database servers, maintenance etc that require paying for. This is why a user is required to purchase a subscription when they reach a certain limit in their family tree site.
With regards to collections of records. MyHeritage owned collections are free to view to MyHeritage members however there is a wealth of information that is held by third party agencies that we provide access to however to use this would require a fee. This is where our Data subscription comes in. This will then give you unlimited access to all collections available through our research tools.
I trust this has proven useful to you and for any further assistance please write from your registered MyHeritage email address to support@myheritage.com and a friendly representative will be willing to assist you with any questions you may have.
Kind Regards,
Dean,
MyHeritage Team.
I have been embarking on my family search for a year but only made progress when I used My Heritage in the last few months. It seems to have more participation than the others, speaking at least as it relates to my European ancestors. The support has been great as I was a novice user and needed many questions answered along the way. Thanks to My Heritage I have found 2 relatives when hope was lost-- with links to more relatives to follow.
I am extremely disappointed in MyHeritage. I made the mistake of signing up for a free trial and not cancelling at the end of the trial. Understandably, my card was charged. I quickly emailed to rectify, but was given the same run-around by customer service as another commenter and only got 50% back. It was like a sales call where I was told to actually keep my account and they made it seem like they were doing me a favor by giving me a discount to a service I didn't want. I re-read the terms and they state that they value customer satisfaction and would fully refund if cancelled before 30 days. I was not given this luxury. When I emailed them back about it, they re-activated my account and called me and left a voicemail saying the "fixed" my account that that I accepted their offer and I assume by that statement I was now left with an account to a website I had zero interest in.
I can't believe the runaround I have had in trying to delete my account. I sent a very personally unflattering email the last time I tried to delete my account, but it worked and I'm only out about $75 CAD.
I can't recommend this website.

Update:
You will see that MyHeritage has responded to all negative posts, like mine.
Nothing has resulted in my contacting them. They couldn't even find a record of my account and after sending all the emails and Paypal receipts - nothing changed. They said "We see that we've refunded you 50% as per your request (I didn't request it - it was all i was offered) if there is anything else we can do, please don't hesitate to contact us"
I cannot explain how unhappy I am with this whole ordeal. Its such a waste of time and money.;

I have been researching and recording my family history online for more than ten years through various online sites including the most commonly used but had reached the limits of what I thought was available a couple of years ago. Recently I followed a link on facebook to the MyHeritage site and as I couldn't find out much about it, went ahead with signing up for the free trial period. The available access gave me no more benefits than Ancestry and appeared heavily USA influenced, however my ancestry is completely UK, Europe and Australia, so rather than waste my time, clicked the button to delete my account.
I received a very personal and genuine email from someone on the MyHeritage Support Team in response to my request offering an upgrade to give myself a better chance to access the features. I had since noticed there is a UK base for MyHeritage so went ahead. I have to say this is the best family history research site I have used so far. After importing my family tree, through the links to FamilySearch and other databases, I have been able to add information and new members to my family tree. I found the site user-friendly with good features as mentioned as well as the capacity to look at detailed family statistics. There is also a link to download free the MyHeritage Family Tree Builder. Overall, I have found MyHeritage to be very good value with the personal service and support *****
How much does the premium subscription cost per year?
I've been using My-heritage for over 5 years. When comparing Apples to Apples of Genealogy Websites, My heritage is far better. Customer service is not as great but eventually they listen.
The program is very easy to handle and the output of the different reports are very good.
Don't provide your credit card information to this company - they will charge your card and extend your membership without asking. If you phone and complain and ask then to stop the subscription after the charge has been made they will only refund 1/2 the charge.
Dear Carol J,
Thank you for your review here on SiteJabber.
Subscriptions are charged automatically on a yearly basis as is mentioned in your "Thank you for your purchase email. This email will also let you know the amount for the continuation and also the date of the charge. Users also have the opportunity to stop any automatic renewals of subscriptions via their "My Purchases" page of their online family site.
Having said that I invite you contact me from your registered MyHeritage email address to support@myheritage.com and place my name in the subject line. This will ensure that you are forwarded to me.
Thank you for your cooperation and I look forward to hearing from you.

Facile à utiliser. Instructions et menu aisément accessibles et compréhensibles. I would definitely recommend it.
It is fascination how easy it is to find your family on MyHeritage but I must warn you: It is addictive and time consuming.
Even when something goes wrong or unexpected, the support department Always does their utmost to get things going.
I've been able to connect with family members abroad I didn't know I had! I've read stories of heroic relatives going through wars, braving the sailing ships of the Trading Companies, and even packing up their homes and emigrate because of the Highland Clearances of Scotland. What starts with a SmartMatch from someone else's tree quickly escalates into another adventure through time.
MyHeritage charges a basic fee for their service, but has many free links to databases with countless names, facts, and even photographs. Every morning as I sip my coffee, I can peruse the matches that were automatically made overnight, and I'm never disappointed.
As you can tell, I'm VERY pleased with the program and the times I offered feedback to customer service, I was responded to promptly, professionally, and personally (not an automated response). If you're at all interested in genealogy, this is the place to be!

I have tried contacting customer service with no joy at all.
My advice to anyone considering using this website is DON'T

Hello I am a free member of My Heritage and I keep getting your smart match emails and of course I cant follow them up as I am a free member. Now my question is this, how far can I follow up these smart matches with the different premium memberships.
Thank you David
Plenty of interest in my comments but it would be nice if "My Heritage" actually answered my query as they have answered other reviews on here.
As a long time user of the program, I recently ran into a few bewildering situations - discrepancies between my data on my hard drive and the online version, and needed to get help from the site. I corresponded initially with their Support Team, which was answered by Mia, who then saw the matter through to the final conclusion.
This is to simply state that the help I received was extraordinary in all ways and my problems were either resolved or in one case cleared up as to the root of the issue, which was out of the website's area of control.
Answer: My issue was the automatic renewal without any kind of courtesy reminder prior to the effective date, as other businesses do. Advising one year in advance is a poor business practice. When I contacted them immediately on the renewal effective date, they refused to cancel and offered me a 25% discount. They eventually gave me the full refund but it was due to me turning it over to AMEX to resolve. I do however agree with the advice to base your renewal on your own personal experience.
Answer: You can find your site subscriptions via MyHeritage homepage - pull-down menu on the right upper corner button "Settings". Then click on "My purchases", and button "Site subscriptions". Click "View details". The details contain section "Cancel subscription". Maybe you can get advice by mail from MyHeritage support team (support@myheritage.com).
Answer: If you are looking to get as many connections to your tree that you can, use My Heritage. If you want flexibility in who is added to your tree, use Ancestry.
Answer: Dear Jonathan, Yes I have the same problem, I wrote to My Heritage and they have still not responded to my request for assistance. They are highly Sloppy and unprofessional in responding to customer request for assistance. Even though they have and excellent Technical Team. Fortunately I have another Computer with Windows 8 as a result of which I am able to continue working with my Website. But recently a few problems have cropped up with the recent upgrade of the My Heritage Program and have sent in a request for assistance and till today 3-5 months later I have no response. Apparently the company believes that they can play games with the customers. I firmly believe that they have somehow gone into self destructive mode.
Answer: Probbably you should like to know what are additional charges - described on MyHeritage site: Help Center > Account and Subscriptions > Subscriptions Whats the difference between a FAMILY SITE SUBSCRIPTION and a DATA SUBSCRIPTION? A Family Site Subscription (Premium or PremiumPlus) entitles you to increased storage on your family site for people in the family tree, photos, videos and documents. A Data Subscription entitles you with the access to billions of historical records in all the collections in SuperSearch. You also get unlimited access to Record Matches, including confirming and rejecting matches, if you have a family tree on MyHeritage.com. In addition, you can save and extract information from historical records you find in SuperSearch or get with Record Matches directly to your family tree.
Answer: If you have any problem with My Heritage you should email support@myheritage and state that you with to terminate the programme. They will tell you how to go about it. Hope that helps Sandra.
Answer: I believe a direct ancestor is someone without whom you would not be here. All your other ancestors are indirect.

Answer: Hi After posting my complaint about MyHeritage on here I got a very quick response from some one called Dave at the company. He told me to send an email to support@myheritage.com and add the subject Dave: sitejabber. He responded a couple of days later - I emailed on a Saturday - and the auto repeat on my subscription was cancelled and my money refunded within days. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your review here on SiteJabber.
