After several years of genealogical reasearch, I was curious about my family genetic background. When the results came back 87% British no problem. It was the 9% Eastern European that threw me. 6 generations maternal and paternal show NO names or nationalities linked to Eastern Europe. When I finally got through the nearly 1 hr hold in line, I was told that since it was a "beta" system that I should realize that they were ethnic estimates and shouldn't be used in hand with actual data reasearch.
In other words... I was scammed! I want my money back!
Because of my little knowledge of the Family Tree Builder, I phoned again today and the lady I spoke to helped correct my errors and answered my concerns. Thank you for being there for us to discuss our concerns with a live person because some of us need to talk to someone and not read a manual.
Quick response from My Heritage help, second in queue so didn't use call back option.

For the past four months I have been working with Laura to resolve a problem where I was unable to open photos and files that I had pinned to people in my tree. After first reaching out to the MyHeritage team, I was pleasantly surprised to get a very timely response. Laura and I corresponded many times and she was always there with a quick response. After I paused my efforts for two months, I once again reached out to Laura for help and, there she was, still wanting to help. Doggedly, she got the resolution I needed. Couldn't ask for better service.
MyHeritage is one of few players of the Geneology and DNA services, and they are really great.
However, when it comes to support, which is mandatory (unless you are an expert. I know I am not, hence, needed lots of explanations on the connections and tools), they are the best. I had the pleasure of more than 30 minutes call with a rep. From MyHeritage, where he explained to me and took me step by step on so many questions regarding the tools and how to properly use them and understand their results.
This is much more than ROI and I am happy I chose MyHeritage.
I had a misunderstanding regarding my subscription and was subtracted 1200,- NOK from my bank account. I got a bit stressed out and called them, and they helped me with refunding my money. My subscription was canceled and everything got sorted out. The lady was very understanding and nice, and my whole experience made me trust them, and I will come back at a later time when I have the money to do so. MyHeritage is a brilliant site in it's own, but the customer service made it 10 times better.

I sent DNA kits in for myself and my brother about a month ago and already received my DNA results a few days ago. But I hadn't heard anything regarding my brother's DNA test so I gave MyHeritage a call. I spoke with a very helpful young lady by the name of Natalie and she determined my brother's kit had not been assigned properly and it only took a minute to fix my mistake. She got me back on track and also took the time to explain how I can find information on other people in the family tree. Once again, Natalie was very helpful and very pleasant to speak with.
I didnt understand why the updated results werent showing on My Heritage. He quickly explained he could refresh my account.
I also needed to understand why there were drastic inconsistencies with My Heritage and Ancestry DNA results.
His thorough explanation makes me feel confident that the corrected My Heritage is the accurate DNA profile. I look forward to finding my matches.

I did not want to even give you all one star I have spoke with no one. I called and was on hold while being told constantly that I was 3rd in line, so I left a message and my phone number as I was prompted to do never got a callback. So I don't even know why I am asked to give a review. You have not helped me at all I was charged on my card for a purchase I didn't make.
They just give you a percentage of supposedly your ethnicities based on today's modern map.
First of all, this does not make much sense, because humans always moved around the world and also, saying broadly you are partially European and partially Balkan - thank you Einsteins, that's nothing new to me. For example, I am 18% Balkan based on their "research"; Balkans is some huge messy mix of so many ethnicities, that this is the same thing as telling me that I am from planet Earth...
When I wrote to their support asking to at least provide me with the haplogroup of my DNA or provide me with my DNA code (they did research it, didn't they) - I got no response. I tried reaching out to them 3 more times - they are just quietly ignoring me.
So, if you just want to waste your money - go ahead and use them!

While I agree it is indeed common knowledge that over the last thousand years, people in Europe moved around frequently but, In most regions of the world there is a unique set of genetic characteristics that are shared between the offspring of native populations. Therefore, if you find you share 18% of your DNA with those that trace their ethnicity in the Balkans, this will be showing in your ethnicity estimate.
To estimate your ancestral ethnicity, MyHeritage compares your DNA with the DNA of people around the globe whose genetic ethnicity is known. We call these people the Founder Populations. Currently our genetic models are based on 42 ethnic groups around the world. But this will improve thanks to our Founder Population project, the largest study of this kind ever conducted. More than 5000 participants have been handpicked to serve as references for this project by virtue of their family trees exemplifying consistent ancestry from the same region or ethnicity for many generations. The results of these tests will yield a rich DNA data set.
Determining one’s ethnicity based on DNA is a relatively new field in genetics. Great advancements have been made in the past years, but there is much more to discover. MyHeritage will continue to work on adding new ethnicities and improving the Ethnicity Estimate, based on new scientific research and discoveries.

I talked to two very polite, knowledgeable agents (Mike & Patrick), who were very willing to help me solve an account problem. Their simple explanations and instructions helped me solve my issue quickly without any problem. As a retired Customer Service Rep with over 40 years on the job, I appreciate great service when I get it, and these two gave me great customer service. I hope My Heritage knows what great men they have in these two CSRs!
I had a singular experience with MyHeritage.
I activated an annual subscription to the service, then asking for its withdrawal after inadvertently passing the trial period.
MyHeritage behaved in a truly elegant way, reimbursing me the entire subscription fee.
It is a very serious service.

Don't bother with this company. They are simply money-grabbers. I've ordered a kit from them thinking they are based in the UK. It turned up they are based in the USA and the kit had to be sent there.
After four weeks it had been sent the company still didn't acknowledged they received it. Nevertheless they keep bombarding me with the promotions of their paid services. You can't even get to their customer services for free as you have to upgrade to their premium membership. Absolute con, so don't fall for it.

Firstly, I'd like to assure you that your MyHeritage DNA kit is guaranteed to be processed although it is true to say that DNA research is a timely process.
It is also true to consider how DNA kits are a very popular holiday gift Idea and from around early November through the holidays, postal services, in general, have an increase in traffic from people ordering online and sending parcels worldwide. Unfortunately, all of this has caused slight delays with mailing DNA kits back and forth. MyHeritage has very little control over this and I understand that this is frustrating. I sympathize with your efforts.
I understand that you have had trouble contacting our support center. It is true that MyHeritage experiences an influx of questions from our members being that Geneology research is a very popular family focus around the holidays. All of this may be causing additional delays and challenges getting through to our support center this time of year. That said, If you order a kit you are absolutely entitled to support from our support center.

I was disappointed in the form of the DNA results. Kits were Christmas gifts, and the results received were in a disappointing form to give the family. Also, I have several thousand names in our Family Tree, but I did not know there would be options for searching family from your site. Then I found there was no way to transfer any search to my program. When I called your site, the person suggested I go to raw data. She gave me the ftdna site. I asked her about the site, and she said she had never used it. It was totally useless. There were no keys to the large amount of information.

You mentioned that you "find no way to transfer any search to your program". Unfortunately, I am unsure what you mean by that. If you mean transferring your DNA results to another site, you may do so by downloading your raw DNA from your site.

They charged me $89 after I canceled. I know for a fact I canceled because I took a screenshot. They wont respond to me. I can't download their app (it just loads), won't let me login on the website, etc. When I called they didn't help me at all. On facebook they see and ignore my messages.
All for signing up for a free trial. Ridiculous. Now I have to dispute the charge with my bank.

The tree displays are terrible. Very hard to maneuver. The theories of relativity are wrong and use the same wrong connections over and over. There doesn't seem to be a way to let MyHeritage know that they keep using the same mistaken connection so it is frustrating to see that same bad connection come up again... and again... and again. The DNA ethnicity estimate is way off. It says I am 80% English. I don't have a single ancestor from the British Isles and my tree goes back to the 1700s.
Answer: My issue was the automatic renewal without any kind of courtesy reminder prior to the effective date, as other businesses do. Advising one year in advance is a poor business practice. When I contacted them immediately on the renewal effective date, they refused to cancel and offered me a 25% discount. They eventually gave me the full refund but it was due to me turning it over to AMEX to resolve. I do however agree with the advice to base your renewal on your own personal experience.
Answer: You can find your site subscriptions via MyHeritage homepage - pull-down menu on the right upper corner button "Settings". Then click on "My purchases", and button "Site subscriptions". Click "View details". The details contain section "Cancel subscription". Maybe you can get advice by mail from MyHeritage support team (support@myheritage.com).
Answer: If you are looking to get as many connections to your tree that you can, use My Heritage. If you want flexibility in who is added to your tree, use Ancestry.
