Musescore advertised a "7 day free trial," which I then clicked on and uploaded payment info. I've done this before for multiple businesses, so I didn't bat an eye as it's not an unusual practice. HOWEVER, this is the first time that a business mis-advertised said free trial and straight up charged me $39.99 for what I thought was a free trial.
When I contacted Musescore, they told me that I acknowledged the terms for a non-trial (a straight up lie) and that they couldn't issue a refund — but would be so kind to give me a "reduced price."
Apparently, based on multiple other sites and Reddit, this is a very common predatory practice of Musescore's. I can't imagine that this will work out for them in the long term. They're eventually going to deal with a lawsuit because their business practices have scam written all over it.
Anyway, I successfully disputed the charge through my bank which is so much more satisfying because it negatively impacts Musescore's credit. That makes me feel a little better. :)
I forgot about my free SEVEN-day trial period, but luckily, I remembered on the seventh day, and I then canceled my subscription. As you can tell from the photo provided, I was charged on the seventh day. Unfortunately, my card was charged for a yearly subscription anyway ($69.99) a few hours after I had canceled it, and as soon as it was, I contacted customer service and asked for a refund. I was met with horrible customer service, where they went on to say I knew what I was agreeing to when I subscribed. Well, they agreed to email me a reminder that my free trial was ending soon, and they did not. Again, I did cancel my subscription in time but was still charged. So so so frustrating. They said that they could give me a 35% discount and keep my current plan. I have no use for this app/website/company, as many more companies provide more sheet music for much cheaper and with much better customer service. The seven-day free trial period is only six days and they charge you on the seventh. Don't waste your time with this company, even if you cancel your subscription, they will still charge you. Any other company would refund you as soon as they realized what had happened, instead they just waste your time until you just give up.
Charged my account for this service. The account was canceled; it doesn't even show as a valid login or password. Refuses to refund my money for services not provided!
I'm also struggling to get my refund of 69.99 for an annual subscription I want to cancel. I was intending to cancel on the trial end date but it ended a day prior (my mistake for misinterpreting the wording) and they refused to refund and offered other membership deals as mentioned by other reviews. I explained that it was my honest mistake for misunderstanding their trial end date and I found their service to be of little use for my needs after trying their services. They still refused to refund the full charge. I've never dealt with an online merchant so desperate to make very little penny and lacking any customer care. I've reached out to my credit card company to dispute this charge. Wish I had read reviews before trying Musescore.

Hello Shalai, Thank you for your feedback. Yes, some of our subscription plans do not include a free trial period. Since a subscription with a free trial period is preselected, if you wish to obtain a subscription without a trial but with a discount, you need to click on the "special offer" button. It seems that you have clicked this option and selected a plan without a trial. This information is indicated in the descriptions of these plans and at the final confirmation of your subscription choice, where you also authorize the purchase or the free trial, depending on the option you have selected. All receipts are sent to the email that you used during registration. Please check your email; it is possible that the receipt went to the spam folder. If you cannot find the receipt, please contact us at support@musescore.com. We will be happy to help.
Musescore is TRASH. I signed up for their free trial to get ONE song that turned out to not even be there so it was all a waste of time. I thought I cancelled the free trial but found out that I didn't when I was charged for an ANNUAL subscription. It was $120!. I emailed them straight away and explained that I accidentally didn't cancel the trial, I don't use musescore and so would like a refund. I literally emailed them the DAY the subscription renewed. Every time they got back to me it was someone completely new. They all explained that it was completely consentful and offered either a partial refund or like an extra 10 months of top of this subscription, basically ignoring the fact I said I don't use it at all. Every time I asked a question it was ignored and when I asked them to call me they said no. SUCKY service and I will NEVER be using musescore ever again. Didn't even get a partial refund in the end. DISGUSTING.
Hello O'Neale, Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately yes, our refund policy does not imply a full refund due to licensing agreements https://musescore.com/legal/terms.
Missed the end of my trial, got carged and conctaed them for a refund. The girl instantly responded to me and refunded my money back. Really it's almost 2021, but these people stay real
Service is great if you are a music teacher or someone who needs access to sheet music every day/week. The problem arises when you try to use the free trial or cancel your membership.
They advertise a free trial and then trick you into signing up for a year-long membership, with tiny print being the only thing to tell you that you are actually being charged.
Completely unbeknownst to me, I was charged 30 dollars for a yearlong subscription. After emailing them for over a week trying to get a full refund, the best offer they gave me was for a 25% refund on the yearlong subscription that I had owned for 15 minutes before canceling. When I declined this offer, they turned on their auto-response bot and I got no more responses from them.
30 dollars may not be a big deal for some, but for a college student paying their way, it's groceries or several days of parking at my job. The only way to get a refund seemingly is to complain online, so here I am.
Such a shame when otherwise good companies with good services resort to such scummy practices to earn an extra buck in tricking people. Shame on you, MuseScore.
If you read other reviews, you know Musescore does not wanna give refund for your accidental subsription.
I'll guide you through the steps to get your money back if you paid thru Paypal.
First, get in touch with Musescore customer support through email. If they respond, you can go back and forth with them, asking for a full refund instead of their proposed options. They probably cannot help as usual, so you'll go to Paypal.
In the payment details of the Musescore subscription charge on Paypal, find the option to start a dispute. I won my case with the reason "Item not received" so you can do that or try another reason if you are feeling confident. Alternatively you can call Paypal customer service and they will start the dispute for you.
Notes:
- The maximum refund offer I got from Musescore was around 80% and I accepted but they wanted me to close the dispute before they give the refund. Other reviews said they would stop replying after the dispute is closed so I followed through with my dispute and won after a little wait.
- You'll need to build your case in the dispute so go tell Paypal what happened, maybe with screenshots of email conversations, or with link to other Musescore reviews
- There is a time limit from after the payment date until you can start a dispute so don't be too late.
If this helped you get your refund, feel free send your appreciation to my Paypal: https://www.paypal.me/KommanderKa
So I can fund my education
I was also part of the trial scam, which is unfortunate because otherwise the service itself would be interesting. I requested a cancellation last year, and 1 year later my account was still active and I was charged again. They force a deal on you, albeit you have already made clear that you wish to cancel the subscription. As a subscription business entrepreneur myself, I'm aware of the legal implications associated with creating a barrier for customers to leave your service. A reminder to everyone that it is illegal in the US to charge a customer without their consent after they have requested a cancellation, also illegal to not notify the customer that the auto-renewal is due, and Musescore is guilty of both. Two years in a row. I am once AGAIN requesting my refund, which they are refusing to issue, while trying to force me into another year subscription. AGAIN, THIS IS ILLEGAL. I am already looking into taking legal action against them should they not issue a full refund. Customer beware.
My music teacher sister uses this site for free and sent me a file to transpose to the instrument I play so we could play duets. I had some issues, so I went to musescore. It seemed OK, so I signed up for the free trial. Things went OK for an hour or so. I wanted it on my iPhone, so downloaded the app. I was able to do what I needed and my sis and I had a fun practice session.
Three weeks later, musescore and apple.com charge me $229 for a year's subscription to a musescore learn that I have no record of wanting or ordering. They even charged sales tax! For what, I have no idea. All I did was download their free app to my phone. Now I have a year's subscription to something I don't want or need. I searched my email and there's no receipt or anything of the product.
Here's the good news: Paypal will refund my money.
Bottom Line: Musescore is a solid product, but be very careful about any emails or charges you get from them. You might end up with something you didn't intend to get and pay for.
SCAM! CHARGED for Basic $49.99 and PRO $179.99 AFTER CANCELING THE DAY I SIGNED UP. I signed up for the 7-day free trial basic plan. Found the music I was looking for but it required the pro plan and I was "allowed" to upgrade my free trial to pro. I did that and couldn't even download the ONE piece of music wanted. I immediately canceled the subscription(s) and HAVE PROOF. They charged me anyway. When I emailed customer support they offered a 25% refund or six more months of their useless product. I'm contacting my credit card company AND the Better Business Bureau. Such a scam. NOT LEGIT.
Do not sign up for this. Whatever you think you are paying, they will charge you more and you will not get it back. They are completely unethical, and their product is worthless.
Hi, thanks for the feedback. We’re sorry you had a bad experience. We’ll strive to do better.
Please contact us via support@musescore.com mentioning this review, we'd be happy to help!
I tried to get musecore so that I could use it to listen to music a band director of mine was putting on for us to practice to. I struggled to get the app to open the music he was sending. In an effort to resolve this I had clicked on try a free trial of Pro. It still did not work, so I clicked cancel my subscription and it went back to showing " start your free trial" I thought the problem was resolved until a week later a charge came through for 70$. I immediately contacted customer service thinking this would be easily resolved as I had not used the program and it was literally the day I had been charge ( in fact the charge has not even cleared by bank as I write this). Customer service responded and I was shocked at how unhelpful they were. They told me since I had not cancelled in the time frame they could not issue a refund but could give me 10 more months of a program I am not going to use. I had found a work around and did not need the Pro version nor ever will. I could do that or take 35% off the 70$. Ridiculous! I made an error in using the app and they are being difficult. DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM -- unless you are sure you want it and will use it. If its unhelpful for what you are doing like it was for me they will not cooperate when you try to cancel. Buyer beware!
I was charged for a subsription what I havent ordered. I requested a refund and instead of that I was charged for 179 USD. No response since that time.
Hello Léna, Thanks for your report. Based on the provided info you did subscribe two times for two separate subscriptions. Please contact us at support@musescore.com and mention the word "sitejabber" and your name in the body of the email. We will try to review your case.
I am disgusted by Musescore and its customer service. I had to send multiple messages, emails, requests, to even get a half baked response that they can't help me. I know I am one of many were tricked and mislead into signing up for a free trial, which actually wasn't free and was immediately charged - even though I canceled the subscription immediately. My US Bank account was charged twice for $39.99 each. They offered a $30 refund total - which doesn't even cover the double charge let alone both charges. I have sent many emails and got one response saying they cannot refund the full amount - without even addressing the double charge. Normally, I would forget and move on and I have never left a negative review in my life - but this bothers me to a great extent. I am in college, and cannot afford $80 to be taken out of my account because they tricked me into purchasing a subscription and then double charged me.
I am contacting Pay Pal to hopefully get a full refund, because this is ridiculous. I wish I had seen these reviews before I signed up. I just wanted to surprise my husband by learning the song I walked down the aisle to on the piano. Extremely disappointed.
This is an unethical company. I was looking to buy piano scores and I thought I had to subscribe to do so. WRONG. They use the subscription blurb on the website to immediately charge your credit card with AUD59.99 which is for a year's so called tuition which I most certainly did not want. I immediately emailed the company and told them I pushed the wrong button as I did not want a subscription for tuition and I got a generic reply stating that there were several options for me to take but NO REFUND. I have written to them 6 times so far and no reply. I am from Australia - they are in Cyprus. No phone number - no contact - other than email. Might as well talk with the wall. I have been scammed of my money in 2 seconds flat. This is not a genuine company but a fraudulent entity purporting to serve as musicians' service and product website. There are so many websites out there that are great and genuine - DO NOT USE - Musescore because it certainly not one of them. If I were more computer savvy maybe I would not have been hoodwinked but I think they intend the website to be confusing whether you have computer expertise or not. Scammers and fraudsters is not near what I think they are - they are worse. I have attached my Receipt for the amount they charged me.
Hello Bridgette, Thank you for your feedback. Yes, some of our subscription plans do not include a free trial period. This information is indicated in the descriptions of these plans. However, these plans are offered with a good discount. Yes, our refund policy does not imply a full refund due to licensing agreements,
But you can always receive a partial refund: https://musescore.com/legal/terms.
I intended to use the free trial offer by musescore. As I proceeded, they promised me that I shall be able to try free of charge their music sheet library for 7 days. After that they would start billing me. Instead I was billed immediately CHF 51.- for a pro+ subscription. I had never intended to subscribe to that, and in the proceedings I didn't get the impression that I were about to subscribe to that heavily charged service. I tried to cancel the subscription immediately, but that was not an easy task. Even finding the unsubscribe feature is not so easy. DO NOT TRY A "FREE TRIAL" WITH MUSESCORE. YOU WILL END BEING BILLED IMMEDIATELY.
Hello Adriano, Thank you for your feedback. It seems that you have clicked the "special offer" option and selected a plan without a trial. They help my kids to find their favourite music sheets and help us to be brave and try new compositions
It is easy and convenient
The customer care department is fantastic

I was looking for music sheets and found musescore. They offered a free trial but i need to entered my card information, I did and after quite some time I completely forgotten about the trial and they charged me $49 for a yearly plan (27th of May). I requested for a refund the day after (28th of May), instead of giving me a full refund they only offer me a 35% refund but i insisted to get a full refund and got ignored right after. I checked online and found out people get 40% to 50% refund, some even gotten a full refund but why do i get only 35%? I know it is partially my fault for not terminating the trial before they charge me but it would be nice to just ask if it is okay to charge the customers any money before doing it. Ask for consent, send an email asking whether the customer wants to continue the plan or not and no one checks their email all the time, just don't charge anything without the confirmation from the customer and terminate the service for them if they don't reply, because if they don't reply means they are not using it anyway. Just to let you know that money is to feed myself, it might not be much to some people but it is quite a huge sum of money for a college student. Very disappointed.
PS: i got the refund of $42 out of $49, it is not a full refund but at least i got back 85% of it
