“The best!”

I've had Metromile for about 3 years now. At about $30-35 per month, I've saved hundreds of dollars. Just a few days after getting this insurance, a big dog ran in front of my car causing over $1000 damage. (The dog lived, happily) Metromile took care of it all and I had a small deductible to pay. They were fast and professional. I cannot imagine now going back to 'regular' car insurance. Metromile is perfect for drivers who don't rack up a lot of mileage. And I love how I can go onto my account and see exactly where I went on any particular day and where my car is parked now. Also, in the event something happens to me while driving, they can see just where I am... or at least where my car is! I drive a 2007 car so I don't have all the new technology.

“Overpriced and inaccurate milage calc”

The MetroMile base rate (rate if you drive 0 miles) is more than most companies charge. They also inflate the milage you drove, the pulse devise consistently records more milage than my odometer. The final insult is that when I switched to another insurance company, Metromile is threatening to charge me for the pulse devices even though I returned them.

Disappointing. High per mile charge. Agent said they're no longer covering Oregon when switching to another company. No notice from the company pertaining coverage in the state. Nothing. But of course the rate increased after initial 6 month policy expired. Now referring customers to Lemonade.

I like the plan and concept of pay as you go, the only complaint so far I have is and this is a serious concern that their pulse device drains out car battery. This happened to me twice in three days on my brand new 2022 car. Was unable to start my car as the battery got fully discharged and had to jump start couple of times before getting it replaced from dealer.

Tip for consumers:
Do not trust the claim that their pulse device does not drain your car battery. Do a quick google search to know the truth

Metromile offers low prices if you seldom drive. But the strange thing about Metromile is that, while they put a 'Pulse' device in every insured car that transmits the GPS location while parked and records every trip, they don't appear to be certain about where your car is 'garaged'. I have 2 insured cars and one is driven by my daughter. She recently took a road trip and stopped off at her mother's house in another part of our state. This triggered an email from Metromile underwriting asking for proof that I haven't moved. Customer Service was absolutely no help because 'once underwriting is triggered' the required information has to be sent in to 'prove' where I am living. So we'll be finding new insurance for both cars after this ridiculous turn of events. It does make me wonder who they would handle a claim if I were to ever submit one. Goodbye Metromile!

I drive very little, so MetroMile was initially great. But, when it came time for my six-month renewal, my rate increased dramaticallly, though no specifics (miles driven, credit rating, etc.) changed. When I asked Metromile to explain this increase, they would not give me a concrete answer. And, I asked more than once. So, I am left to assume they raised my rates just because they could. Be warned. I am not the only person who has experienced this ploy.

This is a good option to check out if you drive just a few hundred miles (or less) a month. Because of working from home during the pandemic, I hardly drive. I pay about half the amount now that I paid with Geico, which is good. However, the company is literally impossible to reach by phone, email, or online robot. Plus, if you do drive much at all one month, your bill will be more than it would be with a comparable service. My partner added me to his policy and I have been trying to contact them for a week to cancel. They do not respond by email or bot, as promised, so I am now paying for two policies have spent a few hours on hold, etc. trying to reach anyone.

Tip for consumers:
If you need to make any changes to your policy, give yourself a week of lead time to reach them. And CALL, they do not respond via email or bot chat.

I don't want to spend too much time ranting, but simply put: they lost my business because they told me to jump through a bunch of hoops that their website made LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE, and then nobody from customer service wanted to get off their rear to help me resolve the issue after repeated emails and phone calls. So, good riddance, I'm a loyal GIECO customer from now on.

My car battery mysteriously went dead one morning a few months ago. Clueless as what was going on, I took the car (2016 Lexus CT200 hybrid) into the dealership and they replaced the battery with a new one and said I should be good to go. 30 days later the new battery also went completely dead, so I took the car back to Lexus and they did some further testing over the course of several days and determined that there was possibly something draining my battery, but they were not sure what it was. They thought it might be my aftermarket stereo and suggested I take it back to the shop that installed it. I brought the car back to the installers and they did the tests with me right there watching and showed me that there was indeed a draw on the battery, but it was not coming from the car stereo. We were perplexed and not sure how to proceed when suddenly a light bulb went off in my head. All the problems started shortly after I enrolled in Metromile and installed that innocent looking plug. Low and behold after pulling out the plug, the 100 Millamp draw disappeared and returned to a normal draw of 2-3 millamps.

For the life of me I cannot reach anyone live at Metromile by phone to report this problem after repeated attempts; just endless hold times with annoying recordings saying they are experiencing high call volumes. I think this money saving insurer was a big mistake.

I signed up for MetroMile on 6/15/18. I received the device 2 1/2 weeks later which didn't work. They did, however, begin to charge me 150 miles/day because they didn't get a signal. I'd tried to contact them via phone, email, and even Facebook Messenger to tell them the device had been plugged in for a week but still wasn't working, and it took them 5+ business days to respond to me. And they did so over Facebook Messenger. They finally did reverse the charges and sent me a new device, but I'd also threatened to report them to the PA department of Insurance.

I am convinced they are understaffed and can't handle the volume (just check out the Glassdoor reviews.) I have decided to stay with them because my base rate is 1/3 of what it was with Liberty Mutual and 1/4 of Geico and Progressive. However, I have a feeling that I will have significant delays if I ever have a claim.

If I drove more than 1-2 days/wk, I'd drop them like a hot potato, but I drive so seldom that it doesn't make sense to pay $100+/mo when I can pay $50 or less. I walk to work and bike around Center City Philadelphia, so Metromile works for me. But if you use your car for work or other necessities, I would not recommend this company.

I was a Metromile customer for two years and I was finally so fed up I canceled and went with a different company. It sounds good but there are far too many problems with this company. The customer service leaves much to be desired, the are only available to talk with you M-F 8-5 (while most people work) you have to stay on hold for long periods of time to talk to someone and overall there is not much money savings. I paid an average of $110 per month for basic liability on cars that were rarely driven. Two of my cars were only driven once in a while. On those cars especially the devices rarely work as they should, they often send out emails saying they have lost signal and you have to call if you have time during the day, stay on hold and finally they tell you the solution is to drive the car. Why do I have this service if I rarely drive the car? Go with a traditional insurer and save yourself a headache.

My family relocated to California last summer, purchased a new car and new auto insurance from Metromile as I don't drive much. During recent policy auto renewal, I found the insurance rate increased due to "A previous drive license suspension on August 25,2018". The actual rate increase started long time ago but I just didn't realize. August 2018 is the time my family relocated from Massachusetts to California and I changed my DL from MA to CA. I'd never had DL suspended and believed this is just a mistake. I contacted Metromile and they asked to provide written proof from DMV. I contacted both MA and CA DMV, got required written proof indicating there is no DL suspension. Then I submitted the proofs to Metromile and their underwriter asked me to "provide documentation that specifically state that your license was never suspended in any state". This is ridiculous considering my 20 years driving history and lived in 6 different states. They refuse to correct the rate and process the refund. I cancelled my policy immediately and switched to another traditional auto insurance company. Don't want to any business with Metromile.

Not to mention they will bombarded you with messages/emails if the pulse device signal is un-detected for any reason, and threat huge penalty. Their rate is not cheap at all compared to other company even though I drive less than 5000 miles each year.

I had metromile for almost a year and a half. If you have a car that you do not use that much, they will try to charge you the max for inactivity and send you another device. Paying bills on the website does not always work properly for reasons their customer support was unable to tell me; except that they were willing to double bill me. Compared to Farmers and Allstate I saved about 10% based on about 10k mileage for the year; but my coverage limits were lower and my deductibles were higher. I switched to Geico and will save about 25% with better coverage than I had with metromile. If you are retired and drive under 7K per year you may be able to save a small amount compared to competitors but be prepared to be the metromile lab rat as they continue to work out all the bugs in their system if you decide to experiment with this company.
