I've had a wonderful time buying and selling on Mercari! It's been better than using Depop and other services at times. I used to sell items very quickly on here and I've been able to buy some authentic rare items for cheaper here. PLEASE make this service available in Puerto Rico. I no longer live in Florida so I can't use the website anymore. It was my favorite selling/buying service. USPS considers Puerto Rico "domestic" USPS for labels, so it should be possible to use Mercari, but it's not allowed yet… Hopefully in the future…

The people that operate Mercari can chalk themselves up as less than human. Even when communication between buyers and sellers is legitimate and Mercari stands to gain a large payout from a sale they will delete messages. Conversations can't take place in depth there at all. Their selling and shipping rates are some of the highest. Complete garbage platform. Screenshot for proof. They delete anything they don't like.

I haven't had any bad experiences with Mercari. I just wish the standard search engine results were only for items for sale, and then you have the option to include sold items (I'm not sure why you would want that as the default).

Ive had good experiences, but the latest one was just awful and I just don't understand stupid people selling filthy shoes for top dollar. I bought some OCs, that looked pretty decent from the pictures for $70. When I received them and opened the box I was shocked and so disappointed, because I was so excited to receive them. They stunk so bad, my cats didn't want to sniff them. The box stunk so I threw it all in the garage. They looked far worse than the pictures, and it was like someone excreted on them. Thank goodness I was allowed to reject the purchase, but as I was looking for another pair, I noticed that these sellers don't try to clean up their shoes! The bottoms are black, dirt is in the cracks, etc. Why would you want to present your product in this way? The pictures I posted brightened up the insoles, they're actually filthy and black. You aren't allowed to leave a bad review if you return the product. Imo, it just allows for this to happen more frequently. You aren't getting a real portrayal of the seller. I learned to pay an extra 50 and get new ones.

This is a decent place to buy and sell your new or used items. I have sold quite a few products on the app and everything went smoothly for me. I like that they only give people 3 days to report any issues before the payment goes through. It makes it harder for people to scam. I do think that there needs to be better customer service, especially for sellers. It would also be better if I was able to promote my items without lowering the price.

This rating game that has taken over American business has gotten out of control. If the money is good that should be enough for Pete's sake. Ebay's rating game is at least more sophisticated for the users and you can separate item description from communication, shipping, etc. Recently, a seller shipped quickly but didn't respond to my message so I flat out don't want to rate them... guess that's what auto-rate is for. Another purchase I rated too soon and regret over-rating the seller because he wasn't gracious at the end.
The sole purpose for writing my review was boost Mercari's rates up because I do have a different experience with Mercari staff aka Team Mercari than most of the reviews. You do have to be patient for a reply, but they will email you back with your concern, and they certainly have been equitable with me. Their system generated emails are a little ugly and cold-looking but their staff seems quite helpful & reasonable always looking to resolve issues. Of course I try to provide detailed information so they are not trying to figure out my issue. Maybe this can help some other buyers interested in doing business with Mercari:}
I'm revising this review after many many more orders. Dealing with "the system" especially at Mercari is proving to be be impossible. Recently I purchased a VHS player that one of the main features did not work. The seller was getting angrier and then his message was deleted by an admin. I asked Mercari to step in an help with the refund as I did not want to deal directly with this nasty seller. I wanted Mercari credit at least for the defective item/seller and am hoping for equity with this purchase. I was thinking of doing a claim on PayPal but have since decided it's not worth the time. I think Team Mercari is as good as whoever you happen to get. I think they hide behind those emails but in fairness most of the time have been professional. I recommend paying with PayPal though they do safeguard your #'s impeccably. Having had my debit card hacked other major websites, I have never had my card hacked on Mercari and the advantage of using card is that you can make offers to sellers with a card but not with PayPal. However, paying with PayPal will give you back-up in case you cannot reach a response with Team Mercari and you do have an issue. They definitely have a lot of cool items, and I think if their customer service becomes more interactive and more professional like their competitors this will be a win-win for everyone who love Mercari. I would give it 5 stars, but they added seller fees on top of paying taxes. A $9 item would earn you $3. Seems so unfair.

But other than that, my items sell fast and I have made quite a bit selling on here.

I'm actually pretty surprised at the reviews for Mercari. It seems a lot of them are more so problems with the people themselves (not to deny the ones that are genuinely Mercari's fault). I've mainly sold stuff on the app and brought a few things, and I gotta say it's a blessing to me tbh. The idea of meeting a stranger scares me, and eBay and Amazon are really cold. Unfortunately I can't seem to get away from the percentage cuts, which can get pretty steep if you're selling items into the $100s. The cut is lower than others I've tried so I can't really complain. Otherwise I'd sell in person. Starting with the negatives: like any other site you get lowballers who basically want the item for free or for you to pay for shipping (which means you'd basically make nothing if you're selling a low priced item). There are a lot of good and genuine people on the app, but also those who will ask you a question and never get back to you. They also seem to try and squeeze you out of every penny. On top of selling fee, they also automatically recommend you to pay for shipping, and you have to lower your price to have your item promoted (even though that feature really doesn't do anything but give you about 4 extra views). I'm also sick of people liking my posts but not buying! Once had 27 likes on a fish tank and not one buyer. Some of those that did offered me a price despite my asking price being so much more power than it would cost to buy the tank. Eventually found a sensible person. You notice that when you dropped the price via promotion, the further it goes the more people want to pounce at the opportunity. I also wish I could cashout with PayPal rather than wait so long for my money to come through. Lastly, I notice that once you hit around $500 in sales it can be extremely difficult to sell any more items. It's like when you're a new member they throw everyone your way, and then you just stop getting as much sales as you use to.

Onto the good, I feel pretty protected as a seller for the most part. Some buyer(s) tried to scam me buy purchasing the item from a separate account and another account claimed they new that person. The first account was deleted while I kept into contact with the other. They tried to claim I didn't send the item, while the other account was deleted, but luckily Mercari reimbursed me. On top of that, the support to actually answers fast and feels like an ACTUAL person rather than bots. I've even had a small conversation with one, and the team member was pretty funny. I come running to them the moment I have a problem and I can count on them to answer within an hour or two. I also like the new feature where you can add things to a shopping cart. Just wish you'd have the option to sell more than one of what you're selling on listing rather than each listing being its post.

One thing that I definitely want changed is counterfeit accounts. I don't understand why Mercari keeps them around, and why their reviews are always far into the thousands (despite their negative reviews being in the thousands as well). I feel like maybe they buy reviews or somehow fake them. There's no way you can sell counterfeit items and all the people calling you out for it are in the minority. Just doesn't make sense. The bad reviews are extremely detailed while the good ones are basic or have no description, plus there's a lot of "automated posting by Mercari." With that said: if there's something that's extremely expensive and you stumble upon it for an unbelievable price and the deal is too go to be true, it probably is.

On my first purchase I noticed what looked like two charges on my credit card for a one item purchase. I contacted Mercari right away, and they were courteous and took it very seriously. It ended up being a misunderstanding on my part, but I was pleased with their customer support.

Consequently, I made many purchases on the site, and the only thing I really didn't like was sellers waiting forever to send out your merchandise and then canceling instead of sending. There is no way at all to leave negative feedback for Sellers like this. Mercari needs to provide a way to let other buyers know that a seller behaves this way, tying up your money and wasting your time. I've never had a problem getting a refund from Mercari, though, for canceled items.

Most of the sellers I've bought from take their sweet time sending out your package. Don't expect to get your package quickly in most cases. It's no worse than eBay, though, which has also suffered from sellers dragging their heels on shipping most of the time.

A great selling platform. While there are some minor flaws, they have been constantly working to make improvements. I really appreciate the low selling fees and easy to use interface! Customer service wasn't the greatest in the past, but recently, they have resolved every issue I have had in a timely fashion!

I also enjoy occasionally shopping on the app, I find the search features work well to show what I'm looking for.

I had 2 pairs of socks that mercari approved a return on, received the package today, with packaging the socks were in, but no socks. So I'm out my money with no merchandise. Also shipped a purse and it was received by buyer on march 5th, have never received the funds for this transaction either. Have E-mailed Mercari and messaged on FB with no response. I want my MONEY!

Being a disgruntled Letgo seller a friend referred me to Mercari. I had never heard of it before. So I need to ship out items before getting paid so what? Everything is backed up with tracking and they have a working payment interface which is HUGE for commerce apps. Sales are spotty and seem to run in cycles but I am converting. Listing is a snap using a mobile device. I wish I could list multiple quantities other than that pretty happy with this app.

To be fair, I want to write an update to say that Mercari finally responded to my lost package by giving me a store credit for the purchase, including ship fee, which I must use within 30 days. They included a $5 promotional coupon. Mercari is my last place to shop regardless after EBay, Poshmark or Swap. So not sure if I will be using the credit within 30 days. I still haven't heard back from the postal service or the postman regarding my item. Maybe it will show up after the holidays.

I don't often buy from Mercari. The few times I've purchased from them, I've had no problems except recently, an item was marked as shipped and USPS tracking said it was delivered but I never received the item. I contacted my local post office and reached out to Mercari for help. On the Mercari's help center, it said they will help with lost packages. I have yet to hear back from Mercari, not even an acknowledgement email. The post office is bombarded with packages during the holiday season, so my purchase may eventually show up. Fortunately, the item was less than $10 so not a great loss. I'm hesitant to continue to shop on Mercari due to their lack of support. Ebay, Poshmark, and Amazon are much better. I purchase all my clothing items online because I hate to shop at the mall; this is the first time an item has been lost. I'm disappointed with Mercari's lack of response and customer support.

Mercari is a great place to find deals, but it is a tricky site. There is many times where there are too good to be try deals and I would recommend stay away from those. If you buy something that is selling at a reasonable discount you should have no problem. Also, make sure you are buying from a seller that has at least a few ratings and you will be just fine. Normally the scammers are the ones have just created an account and are giving something that is expensive for a very low price.

I've never had any problems on here at all. (Thank Goodness!) I agree with Nancy M. On all the guidelines about the transaction.
I HIGHLY recommend YOU ask LOTS OF QUESTIONS BEFORE purchasing! I've had MANY sellers NOT respond. I asked the same normal questions to a seller and she blocked me immediately without even answering me, then right away updated her ad and remarked on my questions! Rude! I asked if her item was authentic, which come on, there are lots of knock offs out there! It is NOT acceptable for any seller to block a buyer just because they feel like it! I asked normal questions about the item and she, for whatever reason, decided to put a block against me! That's NOT acceptable!
Other than her and those who don't respond, I've had really easy, friendly transactions with fair prices. All items arrived exactly as pictured. All these items were in new condition! I'm very happy with all my purchases and happy with the sellers!
I've only had to contact customer service once about that seller who blocked me. They responded immediately. No big deal.
I've added my purchase pictures, seller's information, dates, and costs to share on the items I've bought.
I really wanted to sell on Mercari, but with all these horrible seller reviews, I'm absolutely horrified to even try! Why do those miserable losers have to go out of their way to ruin things for everyone? Shame on you! I have nice things to sell and DON'T want to get scammed! At least selling on Craigslist, I let them know I will only meet at the local police station! There's no internet police for these sites!
Just remember, ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING!
*As a side note* It's 2018, anyone can say anything, but if you don't have pictures of actual proof or lots of detailed information in a review, then I wouldn't really give it much consideration. Everyone has access to cameras and can give IDs and detailed dates and actual real information.

Tip for consumers:
Ask LOTS of questions BEFORE buying: any rips, stains, odors? Just because a label says Medium, it may really FIT like a small! Ask about FIT and not a label size! There are lots of knockoffs, ask about authenticity! Don't be afraid to ask for more photos if the seller only has one!
FOR MERCARI: You should issue your sellers a 3 Strikes Rule. If they fail to answer a buyer in a friendly and reasonably timely manner, they should be taken off the site after not responding to 3 buyers!

I have been buying and selling on Mercari for roughly a year and a half. I switched over my listings from Poshmark due to their excessive commissions and, at the time, inability to offer buyers free shipping. I haven't looked back since, as Mercari facilitates transactions smoothly and payment for sales is quick and easy. One thing I bought got lost in the mail and Mercari was quick to refund me. Things sell really fast on here too, which I love. I've had items sell within 5 minutes of listing them. Mercari frequently offers coupons as a way to drive sales, and this works great for both buyers and sellers, as sellers still get their asking price and buyer gets to save some coin. As a buyer, I have no complaints. As a seller, my only complaint is the recent revocation of the ability for sellers in the state of California to apply their balance towards payment of goods on Mercari. CA sellers are now forced to withdraw their balance due to "compliance"(Mercari's Twitter explanation). Mercari would have gotten 5 stars from me if not for that.

So I been using Mercari for about two months+ I've sold about 20 items and bought 3. I have not had any issues at all, each and every transaction been smooth and simple.
If you want to join Mercari I HIGHLY advice you read the rules carefully. I was surprised to see how bad the reviews are for this app, but reading them I can tell people don't read the rules carefully and expect a lot from Mercari when something doesn't go correctly. SO you are putting yourself at risk by proving your address for shipping labels and bank account to receive the funds. YOU have to know what you are getting yourself into when you start selling or buying.
When someone buys an item you are selling- you ( the seller) have three days to ship the item- which I believe is too long. When the item is delivered to the buyer THEY have three full days to accept they have received the item, rate the item, and then you the seller have to rate the buyer, THEN you get paid. I think that process is SO annoying because I have had 4 people not rate me so I have to wait three days for the system to automatically provide the funds to me. I think its so incredibly rude that people wouldn't rate the seller. So with that being said, people write these horrible reviews who don't read the rules then trash the app because something went wrong.
Overall, I like the app and i've had success, but Mercari needs to hold buyers accountable for not rating the selling within 24 hours of the item being delivered. If Mercari wants to have fasters transactions and quicker turn around with products being bought and sold they need to hold buyers and sellers accountable for shipping faster and accepting delivery faster.

Mercari is not that bad of an app. It's actually an easy way to sell your items. It does have a selling fee, but at the same time, it's a lot less of a fee than many selling apps and websites. Plus I always wondered how they made money to keep the app going. Also it's not that hard to raise your price by the 1 dollar you'd lose from the fee. You do have to be careful of scammers though. But there are scammers on every website. I once bought "authentic apple earbuds" that were definitely not authentic. The lesson I learned from that: ask for their own photo of the item along with the label photo. If the listing is just stock photos, don't trust it. Same goes on any other selling website. Also, read their ratings. Often people will leave a "good" rating even if the item wasn't authentic or as described to be nice. I usually won't buy from someone who has negative ratings or no ratings so maybe that's why I've had good experiences. Anywho, it's not the app's fault if you receive something in poor condition or not as described (it's the sellers), BUT they CAN help you if you contact them about it.

I've sold and bought on Mercari for years and I'm here to tell you the good and the bad. Let's start with the good, you can get a free $10 credit when you download the app and use invite code YYSGQZ when signing up. Even though there is a selling fee, compare it to other selling sites and you'll find it's not that bad. Buyers and sellers can contact Mercari if there is a problem with a transaction. They've made so many updates on the site since I started selling and they benefit the buyer and seller. As a buyer if a seller doesn't ship your item within a certain time frame you can cancel the order yourself. As a seller you can choose to ship the item via a prepaid shipping label from Mercari or ship it yourself, but always make sure to ship with a tracking number to have proof of delivery. Now on to the bad, I recommend to not buy or sell expensive items on Mercari, these items are best sold on meet up sites. I bought a laptop on Mercari and it overheated within minutes of turning it on and because Mercari couldn't "see" it overheat in photos they wouldn't allow me to return it. Mercari has good customer service but I see a lot of people complain when dealing with high priced items, so I think it's best to stay away from it. People can report your items and a majority of the time they are removed, even if they aren't against Mercari's rules, for example I listed a bundle of brand new makeup and it was flagged and removed as being used, even though it was all brand new in the packaging.

So all in all Mercari isn't that bad, just make sure you follow the rules and if something happens, stay calm and contact Mercari to get help.

After being on Poshmark you would appreciate Mercari. I love that you have options with shipping and that there's no commission fee currently. I also like that you can leave feedback or send a dispute straight to support. For myself I have had a decent costumer service experience may twice. Twice they refunded me although one time an item I bought was against their rules (didn't know). That was awesome of them. I also like how you can message a buy or seller once you made a purchase. I would recommend them but I do not recommend buy or selling anything expensive on these apps because I'm sure no company wants to refund that much money although they should. I personally chose to stay away from buying/selling anything too expensive. Luckily for me I have had mostly great experiences and just a few bad out of about 20 purchases and only 5 sells. Simple app I like it. Hope it will add a feature where you could use emojis that's one thing I did like about Poshmark.

I've received all my items that I've bought and they didn't rip me off. Some items take slower to ship than others because of the shipping company or who you buy from. You just have to check the ratings of the seller and check to make sure there are no flaws or you might get ripped off
