"Mercari Robbed Me: Seller Beware – You Could Lose Your Money & Item!"
March 19, 2025

Title: Mercari Unfairly Withheld My Seller Payout – Beware! As a longtime seller, I trusted Mercari to handle transactions fairly, but my recent experience has been a nightmare. Mercari violated their own policies, reversed my rightful payout after awarding it to me, and issued a return label that didn't even comply with USPS regulations—all while leaving me with nothing but a $20 reimbursement on a high-value item. Here's What Happened: I sold a graded collectible card and shipped it securely using a trackable USPS label.
The buyer requested a return, and Mercari issued an invalid First-Class Envelope return label, which is not allowed for graded cards per their own policy.
Realizing this, I upgraded the label myself at my own cost, provided Mercari the updated tracking number, and they confirmed they updated the system and notified the buyer.
The return tracking was never updated within 7 days, meaning per Mercari's policy, the return should have been canceled, and I should have been awarded the sale.
Mercari initially followed their policy, paid me my earnings, but then later reversed the funds without justification and gave my item's full value back to the buyer. Mercari's Excuses Don't Add Up: First, they accepted my updated tracking and told me the system was updated. Then, they claimed they only cover $20 for First-Class Envelope shipments—but they were the ones who issued the invalid return label! Lastly, they ignored their own 7-day return tracking policy, which should have finalized the sale in my favor. The Reality for Sellers on Mercari: Even if you follow every policy, Mercari can still take your money back. They allow buyers to hold your property and get fully refunded, while you get nothing. They will issue invalid return labels and then blame you when it backfires. I am now escalating this beyond Mercari, filing a dispute with their payment processor (Hyperwallet), a BBB complaint, and a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) report for mishandling seller funds. Final Verdict: Sellers, BEWARE of Mercari. If you sell valuable items, you risk losing both your item and your money due to their contradictory policies and poor seller protection. I hope Mercari management sees this and corrects their unfair handling of seller disputes. Until then, I strongly advise against selling high-value items on their platform.

Buyer Beware
February 27, 2024

Do Not Buy from Mercari!
They will not refund, return, or even help if a vendor sells a completley non-working item to you. They will deceptively rate the transaction as excellent themselves so you cannot warn others about the vendor. If you complain to the BBB they will point to their laughable return/complaint window of only 3 days, which will never work in real life for anything that you buy as a gift for someone, which cannot be opened in such a small window.

I bought a electronic as a gift for someone that arrived just a day or two before a holiday. It arrived wrapped in a box which I could not open because it was a gift. The recipient opened their gift and discovered it was completely nonworking. The Mercari vendor had shipped a total dud.

I went on to Mercari to get a return or refund, and discovered that Mercari themselves had already rated the transaction as excellent, without my input at all. I cannot change the rating. They claim they do this so vendors can get payments released to them - as if I had never used any other platforms where someone sells you something.
So I could not warn anyone about this vendor who gave a broken item to me, could not return it, and could not get a refund because they only allow 3 days to ensure an item is working. No where near enough time for anything that may be a gift, especially.

Anyone who buys a gift on Mercari for anyone will not receive the item, gift it, and get feedback that fast. It's a laughably short window of time.

I reached out to customer service. They pointed to the 3 day window. I explained this was an exception because it was a gift, and no one can get feedback that fast for a gift.
It should be at least 15-30 days to evaluate a product. I'm cannot open someone else's gift to test it - it was an electronic.

I contacted the BBB and for days Mercari pretended they couldn't find my order. Then they pointed to their laughable 3 day return policy as though that hadn't been the centerpiece of the exception I was asking for.
They refused to return, exchange, refund, or any solution.

No one will know this vendor sells worthless non working gifts.
No one will know Mercari rates their own transactions, bypassing the buyer entirely, and then refuses any refunds or exchanges even when the circumstances are clearly exceptional.

I will never buy from Mercari again.

Do not buy from Mercari.

It is not good faith to rate a transaction for your customers, and refuse any refund, return, or any remedy at all for a completely useless item that couldn't possobly be verified in such a small window.

Tip for consumers:

Do not buy from Mercari.

MERCARI IS THE WORST SELLING APP EVERRRRRR! STAY AWAY FROM THEM!
October 23, 2023

Mercari suspended me & deleted my account due to unfounded accusations just because I was having a payment issue with Mercari not accepting my payment, so I changed my debit card information & Mercari IMMEDIATELY suspended me and ended up canceling my account saying I was participating in FRAUD! THAT is a serious accusation, one that I ASSURE you that can not be founded as truth because it is an out and out blatant LIE! Prior to that, I was buying a lot of slingback hand sanitizers and ALL I DID WAS ASK THE SELLER (because she was sold out of one of the items) WAS TO "SWAP" OUT ONE SCENT FOR ANOTHER & Mercari IMMEDIATELY SUSPENDED ME AND ACCUSED ME OF MEETING UP WITH THE SELLER TO DO AN OFFLINE TRANSACTION! Now, mind you, I live in CALIFORNIA & that seller was located in OHIO...WHO in their RIGHT MIND would travel across country just to SWAP $3.50 Bed, Bath & Body Works $3.50 HAND SANITIZERS!?!?!? Luckily, I was able to screenshot my message & the nitwits there reopened my account without not even an APOLOGY that they were wrong or anything! Then, the card change was the FINAL STRAW & they wouldn't even ALLOW me to send them anything explaining my story! One incident before that, I was selling AUTHENTIC ANASTASIA OF BEVERLY HILLS lipsticks & had PHOTOGRAPHED A COPY OF MY RECEIPT FROM MACY'S WITH SAID LIPSTICKS...well, those idiots at Mercari then ACCUSED ME OF SELLING COUNTERFEIT MERCHANDISE, DESPITE SEEING THE PIC WITH THE LIPSTICK & MACY RECEIPT! They then reinstated me without the least bit of apology or anything...THAT WAS THE FIRST INJUSTICE...then came the, "SWAP" FALSIFICATION, & finally the LIE ABOUT FRAUDING VIA SWITCHING DEBIT CARDS...HOW DOES THAT WORK!?!? I'm STILL using both cards with NO ISSUES FROM OTHER MERCHANTS AT ALL BECAUSE THEY BOTH BELONG TO ME & I HAVE TWO SEPARATE BANKS WITH 2 SEPARATE DEBIT CARDS THAT ARE LEGALLY... M I N E! I HATE Mercari & seriously hope THEY GET SHUT DOWN!

As a seller and a buyer, I have a deep hate against mercari, please read.
August 18, 2023

As a buyer, i am dissatisfied with mercari due to the poor customer service experiences I've had. Theres no solution or anything done to fix the myriad of problems that exist within the app and the website and they don't care about your concerns.
An issue involving asking mercari for help with a scammer has been the most indignant experience I've ever had online. To start this story off, I am a seller and a buyer of dolls. One day, I see a doll lot for $200, I jump on it quickly thinking it was a steal. Come to find out, the seller is a known scammer in the community, luckily they accepted my refund request and I got my money back. I kept seeing them making new profiles everyday and eventually, I got tired of seeing them scamming people in the doll community so I made a post about them and told everyone to report and block if they see any postings of theirs.
A few hours go by and my post had been seen by over 600 people and I had gotten 10 messages. Three of those messages told me that the scammer asked them to email him to facilitate an offsite purchase for a lower price. And when the potential buyers emailed the scammer, the scammer sent them EXTREMELY inappropriate photos and messages. I felt so bad for them when they told me… then I thought maybe the scammer is a predator who targets people in the doll community FOR A REASON…
And with all of this, my hate for mercari only grew stronger.
WHY aren't they taking our reports seriously? I know I'm not the only one compiling evidence of this perverted scammer. I send them reports and screenshots of his profiles everyday! All of the profiles have the same style of writing (the scammer isn't very smart and barely knows how to spell) and some of the profiles have the same items and same email.
Mercari at the VERY least could block their IP address and emails from making new accounts, they're letting this scammer and all scammers continue to prey on people, the scammer I wrote about in more ways than one, to customer's detriment. This is just god awful and mercari couldn't give less of a care. It's beyond frustrating.
Also, when I message the scammer and ask them why they're scamming when they won't get paid unless they send someone the item they bought, he reports it and mercari gives me a warning for it when I said nothing offensive, I'm just so sick of this person infiltrating and preying on our community DAILY with no action or accountability being taken by Mercari. I wish I knew how I could escalate this issue but sadly, I've only ever heard of and have experienced myself, mercari's total lack of a REAL customer service support team or service.

As a potential buyer or seller, I would steer CLEAR away from Mercari.

Be ware of their own shipping scam!
March 5, 2023

As sales margins lowered, competition gets stiffer, and inflation takes over in 2023. Fuel and Shipping cost takes a big hit. And so does Mercari a company that is pushing shipping through Mercari as their profit maker. Mercari as of today 2023 is investing heavily in the questionable outsourced Indian "bhenchod' 'madarchod' 'chutiya" leadership and marketing strategy. They are trying to separate themselves from EBay, Offerup and Etsy and Facebook MP. And so they have done questionable things with policy that are very unethical but acceptable by Indian "behnchod"company standards. One big issue I recently experienced is with their app on IOS Apple Store. Their Mercari app unlike Ebay or Amazon or Offer up will not have gallery and folder permissions in settings. Instead it will have back door access through the app itself and so if you open the app and browse your gallery and files to upload photos, it will not allow you to disable access the normal way the above apps do (in their settings)after uploading. This is a very questionable and big vulnerability they incorporated.

For them this allows the app to see all your gallery post including your sales items and this is what can be used for them to sale your data or strategise!
Then recently Mercaris "Bhenchod"marketing and support have been analysing sellers who do not use their shipping service and making purchases off of Maercari, and so have unethically been pushing them off their platform or force them to use Mercari shipping by:
Using ghost /fake (Mercari employed) accounts or AI buyers that will randomly like your Sales Post and then purchase it. THEN since it is a Mercari Ghost buyer ( who works for Mercari) they can choose to incorporate a fake address that will be return to sender or process a legitimate address to the ghost buyers location. All of this will cost the seller in the end because if you don't use Mercari shipping you do not get refund in shipping.
The Ghost (Mercari employed) buyer is a product of this Bhenchod marketing strategy that Mercari is employing as of 2023.
These are only two major issues I have experienced. Well that and besides their pathetic shady AI of bidding and negotiating prices against legitimate buyers, the. Along with the fake AI "likes" of seller items that seems so in-genuine and fake and Bhenchod marketing! ( seriously a "like" at 4am?)

As of now I recommend Mercari as the very last place to goto, and if selling be damn sure to use their shipped from Mercari and do everything they force you to do then prey their Bhendchid AI Ghost Scam teams doesn't target you.
Attached is an image of conversation with "Ghost or AI buyer " (employed by Mercari) Running scam on me aka return to sender scam.

Tip for consumers:

Avoid unless it is the last option you have and con not find the item anywhere else .Use their shipp by Mercari because their AI will get you if you don’t .

Supports Abusive Sellers
January 1, 2023

You have 3 days from receipt of the item to rate the seller, which gives you time to inspect the item you purchased. If you don't rate them, the rating is automatic and the seller gets paid. Not all of us can open up our packages and use something immediately. Some of us are BUSY. I ordered some fishing lures. When I opened the package I noticed there were substitutions, so not what was pictured. It was still a good deal, and I wasn't terribly perturbed about it, but I wanted to see how he would respond. I let him know within 15 minutes of receiving the package, then went to work. He immediately got nasty saying, "You have enough time to come on here and tell me something's wrong, but not enough time to rate me so I get paid." Then he threatened me with a bad rating. I went to work and came home in the evening to an extended hateful monolog, angry that I wasn't sitting on Mercari all day responding to his messages, new posts every two hours, threats of a bad rating, and a statement, "This will be the end of our business." He was furious I hadn't rated him within 10 hours of delivery, even though I have 3 days to rate the seller. I reached out to customer service as this seller had done the same thing to other users based on their reviews. They did nothing. Based on my experience, I'm going to say that their customer service is nothing but professional kumbaya singers. I don't even know if they have options to take action, like...I think they're more like crisis counselors than customer service. I've never met a more powerless customer service. I'm a top rated seller on Ebay and I've dealt with customer service on that platform dozens of times. The difference is HUGE. Ebay takes action. Mercari doesn't care how bad their sellers are as long as they are getting paid. This place is literally the Skid Row of marketplaces, a place for criminals and junkies to unload stolen goods. They can be as drugged up, rude and irresponsible as they want. Mercari, based out of CA, just has a real soft spot for such people. Mercari is like a prison colony where all the people who get booted off other marketplaces go to sell their stuff, because no seller is ever going to get kicked off Mercari. There entire ecosystem is designed to welcome and protect unreliable/abusive sellers. If there ever was a company worthy of going bankrupt, it would be this one. Truly awful, awful, awful. F-

Tip for consumers:

Stay away. This company is truly awful.

Strange experience buying on Mercari
December 30, 2022

On 12/24/22 I purchased a pair of earrings on Mercari from a seller named Whoa2go5 and the purchase was successful. However, after a few days there was no word from the seller that the item shipped. I decided to wait a few days since it was the holidays, then I got an email from Mercari telling me that they sent a reminder to the seller that my purchase hadn't shipped yet. I thought that was good, Mercari seemed to be on top of things so I decided to watch and wait. This was my first time buying on Mercari and I wasn't sure what their process was. I let more time go by and decided to email Team Mercari/support to let them know I was still waiting for word on shipping and Team Mercari told me to contact the seller directly and gave instructions on how to do this. I figured since it was the holiday maybe the seller was away or busy, but finally decided that a week with no word on shipping from Mercari or the seller was long enough to wait. Early this morning just before leaving for work I sent a simple message to the seller as follows, "Hello. I purchased (item description) on 12/24. When will you be shipping the item?" The seller answered back saying she had already shipped the item on the day of my purchase, 12/24 and she would reach out to Mercari to see what could be done to help. Then according to Mercari, she contacted them and told them to cancel my purchase. No explanation or anything. My money been tied up for a week and no explanation! I called Mercari and spoke to a customer service person who told me my money would be refunded but I would have to wait up to 10 business days to get my money back. I then went to the seller's profile and the item I purchased is still showing as sold! This whole transaction was terrible. The seller has a great rating on Mercari but I can't rate her because you can only rate a seller after you receive your item. I feel that I should be able to have some sort of explanation from Mercari or the seller as to why a week after my purchase my order was canceled and why the item is showing as sold on the seller's profile. It all seems pretty strange to me. The one good thing about my experience is I was able to get a real customer service person on the phone, but unfortunately they weren't able to give a reason as to why the seller tied up my funds for a week and then canceled my purchase. She tgen blocked me so I couldn't reach back out to her myself to ask for an explanation. If I could rate the seller, Whoa2go5, I would give her 1 star. Mercari gets 2 stars but only because they have real people you can talk to. I will never use Mercari again and beware of buying from Whoa2go5. She ties up your cash and then cancels you for no reason. I wouldn't be surprised if she puts the item back up and Jack's up the price!
