The seller used the excuse the item was damaged. It was already damaged when it was presented. I knew what I was getting. But I believe the seller realized where I lived and decided not to sell to me. I LIVE IN TEXAS. A TRUMP SUPPORTER!

Hello Peggy,

Please understand that when an item is purchased on Mercari, we'll immediately charge a buyer for their order. Once a seller packages, ships, and it is delivered to the indicated address, buyers have 3 full days in which to request a return or complete the transaction. At that time, those funds will be immediately transferred to your Mercari Balance!

Although this process means it may take several days to receive your funds, it shouldn't take 3 weeks! If you have any questions, concerns, or issues with your transactions, we'd like to kindly encourage you to write to our Help Center in-app or email us at contact@mercari.com so we can directly assist.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best Regards,
Team Mercari

I'm sticking with eBay! You are not protected as a seller on this site! Two buyers were nothing but thieves and Mercari sided with them. Sell where you are protected not here!

I babysit for my grandson everyday at my daughters house so I use her address to have my package shipped to me, since I'm there 8 to 9 hours a day. My daughter and I Do Not have the same Bank Account and I have a totally different BILLING address! They have suspended Both of us telling us we have committed Fraud by me using her address as my Alternate shipping address since I'm not home all day. And then have the balls to tell me I've used too many words to resell an item I bought an I used the same exact words in my listing! An I was using too many words, but I quoted word for word the listing I bought from! Snap shot it to them! Along with 16 more listing that had a lot more words than mine! The people are idiots even if your not trained you can't really be that stupid! We own a business an I write to the girl AN told her if she was my employee I FIRE HER! Needless to say I'm
Suspended indefinitely! And not allowed to
Delete my account! But yet there are people selling baby pigs, used condoms, fake purses and other services! It should be against the law motto
Have a phone number to call for service! Mercari is a joke, not a company!

I wrote Mercari, they gave me the run around and did nothing to resolve, THEY DID Make up lies.

They said: O the seller said Shipping was paid by the buyer. OK, then I copied today, the add and sent it to them. Stating, it does NOT say that. I was illegally charged an additional $50.00 for shipping. The add clearly states in TWO separate places $35.00 shipping in California. I am in California. Plus, The seller has 12 Reviews of Approval, but has only sold 1 ITEM, MINE. How is that? Buy elsewhere, you will not get backed up, as Mercari States they do. They only want the add money and F the consumer. You can not get a hold of them either. It is not CONSUMER Friendly.

--why did I get charged $85.00 if in CALIFORNIA. 2 times you listed $35.00 as shipping. This is the reason I bought from you...Please refund $50.

Buyer beware!... or better yet, just avoid
May 8, 2021

I purchased a DSLR on the Mercari site from a seller called LTradeandServicesllc. I received an email from Mercari the day the camera arrived stating that I'd need to rate my purchase within 3 days. I tried to contact them through their website to explain that the camera didn't come with a memory card, that it's impossible to evaluate the camera without one, and that I'd need another day before reviewing the purchase. I also messaged the seller through the Mercari website but received no response. In the meantime I ordered a memory card on-line but before it arrived I received an email from Mercari stating that they'd rated my purchase for me (5 stars!) and the transaction was complete.

Mercari has no customer service whatsoever. Their "help center" is an automated drop down menu with limited options. There's no option to communicate with anyone, either in real time or by sending text or email. The only option is to pick one of their prescribed scenarios.

I went back to their website in an effort to complain. After picking a series of drop-downs culminating with "I need to change my rating" there was a statement that once a rating has been submitted they're only able to facilitate positive change ratings but they're "willing to help"... and finally there was a text box. After typing out my problem and hitting Send I got the message: "Sorry, there was an error submitting your inquiry. Please try again in a few minutes." Repeated attempts to resend were unsuccessful.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this site at all cost, or patronize them at your own peril.

Crooks
October 12, 2020

I shipped an item to a customer that ended up being damaged during shipment. The customer notified me of the issue and I followed the instructions according to the Mercari website which says that I have to file a claim with the shipper which happened to be UPS. I filed a claim, let them know how much the item was and they submitted a claim for me but because Mercari is the person in charge of the label, they settled the claim with them instead of me. Long story short, mercury says that they will not reimburse me the money because I filed the claim myself which is bull$#*!, because I followed their instructions. On top of that they tried to say that I didn't even ship my order on time which is bull$#*!. So basically I'm out $50 and they get to keep the money from the claim. This is bull$#*! and they are crooks for stealing my money that belongs to me. So the customer gets her money back but I don't get anything but a slap in the face. Disgusting company and I will spread this to all their customers.

Hello to anyone reading this right now. My email is *******@gmail.com
I mentioned my email above just in case someone has a solution to the problem I am about to explain.
So I have been using the app mercari since Christmas. I only created 2 accounts prior to my current one. The one I currently have mercari has literally stolen my money in my face. I sold about 12-15 items and all the customers were very happy and gave an amazing review. Yet mercari one day froze my account suspended and denied me acces to my own hard earned money! Now this was my only type of income due to the fact I'm a student so the lost of $1292. 50 is not really a joke. They asked for my social security, my GOVERNMENT IDs and the whole 9. I didn't want to provide it but my money was on the line so I did. Once I did they basically laughed in my face and still froze my account. Claiming I sell fake merchandise. WOW! Imagine that. The customers themselves said it was authentic all my items are real and I get them from the actual store so how can it be fake. Yet on mercari you see numerous items being listed at less than below retail value and the quality clearly suggests it's fake. So why am I being targeted. All I ask is that my funds are released to me I'll leave mercari and never return if that's what they want.
If you have read up to this point I thank you very much. Please email me if you can with a solution. This is crazy

Overall, good experience
September 7, 2021

On my first purchase I noticed what looked like two charges on my credit card for a one item purchase. I contacted Mercari right away, and they were courteous and took it very seriously. It ended up being a misunderstanding on my part, but I was pleased with their customer support.

Consequently, I made many purchases on the site, and the only thing I really didn't like was sellers waiting forever to send out your merchandise and then canceling instead of sending. There is no way at all to leave negative feedback for Sellers like this. Mercari needs to provide a way to let other buyers know that a seller behaves this way, tying up your money and wasting your time. I've never had a problem getting a refund from Mercari, though, for canceled items.

Most of the sellers I've bought from take their sweet time sending out your package. Don't expect to get your package quickly in most cases. It's no worse than eBay, though, which has also suffered from sellers dragging their heels on shipping most of the time.

I got $#*!ed out of $30 from mercari from a buyer (she canceled her order and still got her stuff from me).
Mercari refused to look into it.
I thought Mercari was supposed to be a safe place to sell things.
I will be for sure telling everybody I know to pull their existing Mercari accounts and going straight to Poshmark b/c Mercari does not support its sellers. Mercari took my cut, sided with the seller, and then some.
They did not reach out to the buyer.
She has a lot of "cancelled" orders on her end so this is an obvious scam that she is running.

Terrible Experience!
December 29, 2018

(1) The seller did not ship my item for almost a month! I received no communication from Mercari during that time. I ordered on December 4th and received after Christmas on December 28th! (2) I had to find the seller on Facebook to get her to ship the item. She's a teenager who said she didn't ship because her printer was out of ink. She only shipped it when I told her to take a pen and write my address on the box! (3) The rating system sucks. I thought I was giving an initial rating of the condition of the item. Instead, it now says that I had a "good" experience with the seller and it was NOT GOOD! (4) I tried to cancel, but Mercari support did not do it in time and she shipped the item anyway. (5) Correspondence with Mercari support was poor. (6) The website redirected too many times for my browser to let me log in or check status. I finally was able to do it by opening another browser. (7) I will never use this site again and will encourage others to avoid it. (8) I want to change my rating for the seller and give some comments, but it will not allow me to do that!

Mercari is a terrible website that bans you for no reason! I was in the middle of transferring my money to a back account and they suspended my account, saying that I need to confirm my identity! They asked for my FULL social security number, dob, pictures of my drivers license (front and back), Live Photo and after I did all of that they aske my husband to send them all of that information as well! (only because about a year ago I made a purchase with his debit card and they had his information stored!). When you call their customer service, they put you on hold for 20+ mins and then finally when somebody answers the phone, they tell you that unfortunately there's not much they can do but let their "specialists" know that I called! When I asked how I can contact them directly, they told me that they don't have a phone number I can call and that I can only contact them by email! (Yet, they want me to send them all my personal information!). After holding my money (over $1,000) for a week and a half, they closed my account without letting me know (messaged me 3 days after that!) and told me that I'm banned for life! I complained to a Better Business Bureau and I recommend to everybody who's been a victim of this website to do the same!

If a seller is a scammer, they sell bad items and once the buyer asks for a refund, there is no review to be left. I was just scammed recently. I sold a pair of leggings, the buyer claimed she received the wrong item 2 days later. On the 3rd day I would have requested a rating because this app holds money for 3 days. The buyer sent me back an item that I've never seen before. I knew what was happening. I messaged their "support" team and they are of no help. This app allows people to do horrible, illegal things such as what just happened to me. I'm now wondering if I can file a police report on the person that did this because there are clearly no real life repercussions to hold scammers accountable. I have a very highly reputable reputation on ebay of almost 10 years now, I'm a power seller, and have never had a single negative review. I am baffled as to why this mercari app allows people to make such claims while stealing someone's item and sending the seller back garbage in return. I will stick to ebay from now on and will never ever sell on mercari again. It's total bull$#*!. They have no customer service phone number and offer no real assistance. I will make sure this scammer is held accountable in real lie. Some way some how.

Hello. I purchased 5 old US peace dollars from a seller on Mercari. The coins arrived when I was visiting family as it was a long weekend- Thanksgiving. When I arrived back to the house I found 5 peace dollars that seemed suspicious so I took them to a coin dealer where he scanned the coins and found they were fake. I immediately filed an issue with Mercari and they said it was beyond the 72 hour window and they'd give me a coupon for my trouble...I said this was not an acceptable resolution and had to go back and forth many times before they said that if I can provide proof that they would refund me. I went to another coin dealer that I know of with an xray scanner to tell exactly what the coins are made of- silver plated brass (prior to 1964 dimes, quarters, 50 cent pieces and dollars are 90% silver). I took many photos and even videos of each coin being scanned. Sent it to mercari. And Mercari said they need an expert third party to say the coins are fake. The evidence I sent wasn't enough. They are the worst company. I will be going to a secret service office in Ft Myers Florida that specializes in tracking down counterfeit US currency next. Mercari and everyone there is a joke. Avoid at all costs.

I have been a seller on Mercari for several years with many successful sales. However, the two return requests I have received have made me never want to use Mercari again. My first return request, the buyer said the item was damaged in transit, with photos of the tag slightly bent. Mercari approved the return and told me to package my items better. Moving forward, I started shipped in boxes instead of bags, so that tags wouldn't be damaged in transit. This week, a buyer requested to cancel after I had dropped the package off, so I knew it probably wouldn't end well. When the buyer received the item, they requested a return for item damaged, and showed photos of a blemish on the front of the sweater that was hardly visible in their photos - it looked like dust. Mercari approved the return. When I received the item back, there was not a smudge like the buyer showed in the photos, but they had pulled the fabric and the tag was went in half. I alerted Mercari to this issue and they basically said "sorry we can't prove it." I tried to look at the buyer-submitted photos again, but Mercari only allows sellers to view return request photos for 24 hours. After asking support to compare photos, they said their decision isn't changing and they will not show the buyer-submitted photos for me to prove the inconsistencies. Customer Support appears to be awful for most people on both the seller and buyer side. Don't even bother with Mercari - use the other platforms.

Mercari is a scam company - buyer beware
November 11, 2021

Mercari's website posts that they offer returns in 3 days of you receiving an item but it is not true. Mercari's website fails to allow you to even start a return within the 3 day window. You can click on dropdowns and write a few things but then it won't let you submit. When you try to contact them, guess what? You can't! They have no email on their website. Their return policy doesn't mention anything about taking photos but if you want to return, they ask you for photos but their photo link won't allow you to upload any. How convenient. To contact them within the 3 days window I was able to find support email by googling it. Not on their website. The rep told me I could not return the item because "the transaction had been rated." I had no idea what that meant. I told them I never rated anything. They told me that their system "automatically rates all transactions after 3 days!" OMG! Another rep told me that my transaction was rated the day my package was delivered. So basically no one can ever return anything at Mercari because they themselves rate the transaction preventing any return. WHAT A SCAM! Customer service reps also give you false, misleading, and contradictory information. Some tell you to send photos of the item, others say photos have to be sent within 24 hours. In the end, you will never ever ever get a refund from these people. The store should be shut down. Do not buy from them!

I sold a few items on here and mostly purchased. Everything was fine and dandy until two days ago when I purchased a Foreo Luna and a brush for my dog. 20 minutes later I get a notification saying both transactions were canceled and my account suspended pending review. 45 minutes after that, I get a notification that my account is being DELETED due to 'suspicious payment activity'. I had recently added a new credit card with MY name on it to pay for the items; can someone tell me what's suspicious about using a card with my name on it? I emailed Mercari about this and just got some automated messages about my account being deleted because of the suspicious activity and how it's for the safety of the community blah blah blah. I email again asking what exactly was suspicious about me using my own card to pay for the items. The response I get?

I used Mercari after using Poshmark. I was thrilled at first due to the $0 commission that Mercari asks for, and the shipping has many different options. I was thrilled, that is, until I realized how absolutely abysmal the customer service is.

I had a really awful experience with a seller. She was abrasive, standoffish, and clearly just there to scam people and make money. She gave one word answers to everything asked about her merchandise, and gave a bad name to people trying to make an honest dollar and sell their old or unused clothing. I bought from her a pair of pants, and I paid $20+shipping for these pants. She advertised 1-2 day shipping, proof of shipment, and that the product would be in mint condition.

3 weeks later my pants arrived, with a ton of pilling, a huge hole, and a missing drawstring. They were absolutely disgusting! They reeked of smoke and were worth about $5 on a good day. I contacted Mercari asking for a refund or a return, and they told me it was too late! That if I wanted a refund I wasn't allowed to rate my seller. Well, I did rate my seller and it was too late for me to take it back, however I clearly didn't understand that and I would never have done so had I known how awful these pants would be! Mercari doesn't give 2 sh*ts about customer satisfaction, something I've learned the hard way. I paid almost $30 on a pair of busted pants, and I will never use Mercari again.

BUYER BEWARE! I urge anyone and everyone to stay off of MercariApp.

I purchased a GoPro Max from Mercari, the seller did not indicate the item was damaged in the listing. Mercari support stated the item was in "Good" condition as the seller had stated even though the camera had scratches on both of the lenses impairing its ability to operate as a camera. It's clearly called out in the Seller Protection policy that for the seller to avoid a return claim all damage must be consistently called out in the item description and photos. The photos had what looked like lens glare but actually was a scratch, there was no damage claimed in the description only that the camera was in good condition and worked. After days of providing evidence, referencing their own Buyer Protection and Seller Protection policies they refuse to allow me to return the damaged item to the seller and were unable to tell me why they refused my return claim other than "we've determined the item was in good condition as the seller had stated" completely ignoring the damage on the camera and the failure to notify buyers of the damage.

I have issued a chargeback and Mercari is closing my account. It's as shame as I actually enjoyed Mercari for a time as a 5 star buyer / seller with 22 transactions on my account, but due to a failure on Mercari's part for not adhering to their own Buyer Protection policies when review my request for a return. It would have just been much easier to allow me to return the damaged camera back to the seller.
