I sold a mixed lot bag of Jewelry on Mercari. I just received an email today at 12:30 in the morning almost a week after I shipped the item, saying my transaction has been canceled due to a problem on the Buyers end. They never specifically tell you why it was canceled. I will have to assume the buyer scammed me and saw that it was being delivered and asked Mercari to cancel the order which they did without giving me a warning. If you are a High-End seller do not use this platform, use Poshmark or Ebay. The order was delivered today and I am out of my product which the buyer got for free, and all Mercari support has to say is to contact my shipping carrier. My shipping carrier? I used their label so why is it my responsibility to retrieve my order when I paid for their label? Totally un-ethical. I'm glad it happened with a low value item. Please do not sell high value items on there, you may get scammed with no protection.

Mercari does not care about their sellers. They just want your money. Their customer service responds to your issues with scripted responses, and they do not solve your problems. They let buyers return their items for reasons that aren't legitimate, such as not liking the color, and the seller eats the original shipping cost. They also will not remove any untrue, unfair reviews. It's an all around terrible website.

This site is the worst. First, when you search for anything, it automatically shows you all the stuff that is sold. Why? You can't really buy those items now can you. Second, their search is horrible. You are very limited in search area, and it pulls up everything under the sun not related to what you are searching for. Thirdly, their shipping charges are way over actual cost! And lastly, their cost to sell on the site is exorbitant and you get nowhere near the viewers that are available with Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, or even Offerup. Do yourself a favor and do not buy or sell on this site!

Terrible service
November 25, 2021

I tried to sell a purse on the website. The buyer purchased the purse, didn't like it and wanted to return. There is no recourse of lost businesses and the time invested in the sale of the item. I paid Mercari to authentic my item and they do not stand behind the seller and their clients not the mention exorbitant commission that they keep! Not doing business there again. Lesson learned.

Awful

Bought one item to try this platform.
It arrived broken and clearly missing a piece.

Request to return was denied, with some claptrap about after careful investigation, blah, blah, blah, which was obvious BS, as the photos I sent showed this clearly.

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! Unscrupulous business.

Stay away from this platform.

The seller messaged me that she could not send me a full tube of foundation but she could send me a tube that was 95% full. Replied immediately that NO, I did not want a used product, to refund my credit card. ON the same day, I ordered the product from Amazon. A few days later I checked my email for Mercari refund status, and found they had just shipped the product to me anyway. I received the product a week after purchase. I didn't open it so that I could return it, but they said it was not returnable for this particular reason! I just opened the package, and it is a used product! Do not order from Mercari...

I'm a seller on Mercado and they deleted my account after I declined an offer from someone who low balled me! The item was a black shoulder bag and it was listed as such. The person offered me a lot below asking and I declined. As soon as I declined my account was inactivated do to a " counterfeit item"! The purse was not listed as authentic Chanel so there should not have been a problem. This site does not take into consideration anything they just deactivate you like the idiots they are! This site is run by Morons! Grow up! If you're going to buy or sell on this site think twice! They're Jerks! If I could go lower then 1 I would! Negative 1000!

This was the worst app for sellers ever! I sold two Pair of Nike shoes they charged the buyer for shipping then when I got to UPS they charged me then Mercari charged me so the get shipping from three different ends. Then I kept messaging them and at the end it said if I put in the wrong numbers and the bank doesn't send it back or if it was numbers to a real account they won't help you it's your fault we got out money so screw you! I will never use this app again it's a total rip off for sellers!

No common sense

It's almost impossible to contact them despite their contact us button. You have to choose options that doesn't fit.

A return does not go by their policies, it basically goes based on the person doing it and what they want to do. 2 examples. An item received that was suppose to be new and original packaging clearly wasn't but they deny a return. They say the don't accept returns for smells but clearly did. Examples and pictures of all available and provided by their minimum wage workers decide based on their mood of the day.

Don't buy or use mercari. It's not worth the hassle of receiving an empty box where tracking shows delivered but not what's in it.

Great service

I've had a wonderful time buying and selling on Mercari! It's been better than using Depop and other services at times.

I used to sell items very quickly on here and I've been able to buy some authentic rare items for cheaper here.

PLEASE make this service available in Puerto Rico. I no longer live in Florida so I can't use the website anymore. It was my favorite selling/buying service.

USPS considers Puerto Rico "domestic" USPS for labels, so it should be possible to use Mercari, but it's not allowed yet… Hopefully in the future…

This app is full of rude and entitled white people who think they can talk to anybody any kinda way but what theyd dont know about me is that i have another account on mercari. I have 2 accounts and if someone wants to talk crazy to me then block me i will log into my other account and cuss them out because I am not the one!. Another compliant i have is how much they take from sellers. The fee is crazy. There is also a poor lack of customer service and they always seem to take the buyers side.

"New" watch was broken but denied return
August 28, 2023

Bought a Swatch listed as "New". It arrived and didn't work. The packaging had been opened so I took it out and checked for a battery. The insides of the watch had been somehow twisted so the battery wasn't accessible. Sent a return request with pictures of this watch along with an actual new one. They denied the return because I had opened the battery compartment.
I should have researched the seller, they had just created their page, this was the only item, they said from Texas but the return address on the package doesn't exist and tracking shows that it actually came from Florida. Even with all of this now obvious fraud, Mercari said sorry because I opened the battery compartment to see why the watch wasn't working. Mercari is a place for scams.

March 2, 2020

I placed an order for razor, immediately I was bombarded by junk mail trying to make me download app (s). After few days instead of my paid order I got this unbelievable stupid message from seller:

Hello! Thank you for your purchase! When preparing to package your razors, I realized that the package of disposable razors my husband used without telling me. I am so sorry. I do have a new package of the Schick Quattro razor that comes with two 4 bladed cartridges I would be happy to replace. This package is not the disposable throw always though. If that doesn't suffice, I am happy to accept your order cancellation. Please let me know how to proceed. Thank you for your understanding.

Mercari locked me out of my account. 2 weeks before Christmas and are still holding my funds. It's been 8 months with over 100 emails sent. No reply phone calls. They give me the same forwarded message & when they have requested any info I've sent it back x5... And with a few hours they fed me a message saying that they've closed my inquiry. They have my kids Christmas from last year 400$'s + that they won't direct deposit to me or allow me to regain access to my account...

Mercari suspended my account for no good reason, They were demanding my social security number and my drivers license number. They said they want to make sure that I am not funding TERRORISM... I am a grandmother and I sold some jewelry from my mothers estate, she recently passed. Mercari is not allowing me to direct deposit my money into my bank account from my sales. They are stealing $198.00 from me. I just keep getting a message from them stating that they want all of my personal information. I will be calling channel 12 news. Do not sell on this site, you will regret it. There is no way to speak to anyone. All I keep getting are messages that sound robotic...

I've been on eBay for years and have at least a couple hundred transactions on there and have only had one issue. That's like a.5% issue rate. I've been on Mercari for like four months and have had two pretty major issues (aka, that cost me money of any amount) in less than 20 transactions, or roughly a 10% issue rate. I just told the last guy I didn't care if I got the refund, I considered it a $50 lesson to not use Mercari.

Edit: More orders have been messed up. Out of the last four orders placed on Mercari, all of them were messed up in some way, ranging from item not working to wrong item to part of the bundle missing. Review changed to '1'. Mercari needs investigated. Too much is going on for Mercari themselves not to know.

It's been over 2 weeks now and they still haven't processed my W9 form while locking my whole account and not letting me answer customers even! Just letting me tarnish my name on there while they take their sweet time! They also stopped responding to my messages after 2 days lol what a joke of a company, STAY AWAY!

A great selling platform. While there are some minor flaws, they have been constantly working to make improvements. I really appreciate the low selling fees and easy to use interface! Customer service wasn't the greatest in the past, but recently, they have resolved every issue I have had in a timely fashion!

I also enjoy occasionally shopping on the app, I find the search features work well to show what I'm looking for.

Sellers beware
August 18, 2021

Buyers will damage your item and request for a return and mercari, despite your multiple good reviews of everyone saying that their purchases have been delivered in perfect condition, will believe the buyer and you will be left with a damaged item. Always check the buyer because mercari's customer service is $#*! and they will not defend the seller. Literally why would I sell something that is damaged since that's one of the reasons they could return it?! My buyer wasn't even the same size S why I sold to her and too bad I found out too late or else I would have rejected or cancelled her order. But then again, it will show up that you cancelled an order and work against your ratings. Horrible system.

You get easily banned on there for doing something as silly as "promoting acc listings"
And then have to wait 24 hrs to even see if your gonna get banned or what not, it's been a good 1 1/2 days since I got my privileges provoked for "24 hrs" and still haven't gotten an email or anything saying that I've been banned or reinstated. Would not recommend if you plan on using it as your main source of money because your likely to get banned or end up like me. Also customer is absolutely crap it takes a good 8 hours to even get an email saying they have received it. If it wasn't being my main source of income I'd quit
