Buyer Beware
August 14, 2022

I tried Mercari.com to purchase a water filter for my Samsung fridge. The seller for this transaction was
"thrift and Overstock"
Shipping was quick enough. Problem was, they send me the wrong filter. What they sent wasn't even close, it was for a fridgadaire fridge, not Samsung. It looked like they just pulled it out of a trash can, packaging torn. I didn't realize it, but Mercari has a strict 72 hour return policy. Get that? Available return time measured in HOURS, not Days. I contacted them about 76 hours after I got delivery, explained the problem. AFTER having me repeatedly send them pics of the wrong item, damaged box, etc, they told me I was TOO LATE. Their policy is carved in stone, no credit, no refund, no return. I tried leaving a review for the seller on their site, but did not have that option. I'm guessing most of the 5 star review there are FAKE. BeWARE - Spend your money somewhere else. These guys are scammers.

Beware of refunds
December 19, 2021

I brought a iPad mini 2 that had a little crack on the screen which I accepted. The day I received the item the screen would keep moving on its own. Furthermore, I made a pin to enter the tablet and it would randomly click things thus wrongly inputting my pin which locked me out a couple of times for that reason. I reported the problem to Mercari and asked for the 72 hour return yet this was Mercari response. Look at the screen shots

Don't trust this site
August 13, 2018

Ordered plants, emailed the day they arrived that I was missing almost half the order. Waited days, then contacted paypal. Mercari emailed and closed my order, then days later said I needed to send pic. Well the balance of the order was planted and below ground so no recourse they said. No refund, No buyer protection. If they can have a get back to me in 24 hours or you're screwed then so should the buyer.

The worst!
October 6, 2017

Lost money and received poor rating for NO reason... contacted support only to be told there was nothing they could do. Paid very quickly and had great communication with seller, except seller shipped my item over a week late and not as described. Furious how they can over look this issue and say please contact us only to be told saaaame thing. Do not waste your time!

I sold a authentic Valentino handbag with tag and certificate of authenticity and buyer still called to fake which I didn't understand at first. And it was approved for return bc mercari doesn't know who to side with! When it was returned to me it was stained with jeans stains (it's a light nude pink bag). Mercari said that they don't know if it was stained prior to me selling the item!

Promised new item, received very USED ITEM

Mercari is an ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE website and is a SCAM. They do not help in resolving issues and all listings are fraud. I purchased a Christmas gift for my daughter. List was for new blow-dry brush. Product. And very used even with hair wrapped around the brush. Mercari refused to offer any refund or assistance

I used Mercari for years and sold over 6k of stuff. My account somehow was compromised one day and I had my card linked. I reached out to support, which is only available via email, and have not gotten a response. I do not recommend this app. It clearly isn't safe.

They don't care

I ordered something on 1/26 and after messaging seller several times, she then decides to block me from her after I've purchased an item. I reach out to Mercari because seller is supposed to ship out in 3 days. When I contacted Mercari they contacted seller they marked it as dropped off, fast forward it's now 2/7/24 and I still don't have my item nor my money. Mercari told me I could cancel on 2/2/24, but bc seller refused and marked as cancelled I have to wait. Now Mercari is telling me to contact the delivery service seller used which is UPS, UPS has opened an investigation into where the package is. Mercari said I have to wait until 3/2/24 now for them to help me smh! This is beyond ridiculous and to top it off the seller unblocked me long enough to send a taunting messaging saying how do I like waiting. I have added my pictures below! Once this is selected I'm deleting my Mercari account and never ordering from them again!

I placed an order with Mercari on 07 July 2020. I did not receive a shipped notification within the promised 3 days. I tried to log in to contact Mercari/the seller, but the link does not work. In fact, none of the links work that are on the website. I am beginning to think I have been scammed because I still do not have my item purchased and today is 15 July 2020.
I will NEVER purchase anything from this site again.
Buyers beware!

Beware if you receive an item not as described and need to return it. Custom support is non existent.
I received a reply say they are investigating and that was it. I did received a reply for the case that stated my item had been removed due to shipping restrictions, however I was a buyer I didn't have a listing to take down.
All my replies have gone unanswered.

Horrible I was not sent a confirmation of the order. The order was placed on an email address that was a backup address (not the one used to set up the account but any Mail still comes to same inbox) orders was said to arrive before Christmas but since it was not shipped until 6 days after order was placed and paid for, along with the fact that no confirmation was given and no tracking information was given I was forced to re purchase elsewhere to insure a little girl got her Santa gift. Mercari"s response was to say they were sorry but to wait and see if the tracking info did not show up and file again January 17th. The item arrived on Saturday
Two days before Christmas. Mercari will say they are sorry and then ask for your email address by writing to the email address they are asking for, your telephone number, shipping address, all information they have already. It is a stall tactic in my opinion. This was the first and LAST time I will use Mercari.

Similar to many people on here, a buyer purchased an item worth $108 and immediately requested a refund claiming I sent an item worth $. 05. I take videos of me packaging/sending my items and that wasn't enough proof that the buyer swapped the item. In addition, I have 70 reviews, all 5 stars and it was the other users first purchase.

Customer service is extremely unhelpful and just copy and paste the same response over and over. Please direct me to any class action lawsuits.

Be aware, there is ZERO communication with Mercari, you can only email them and you get automated messages. They closed my account with no warning, they later stated I was selling an unauthentic item. The item was in fact authentic,I have been a Mercari seller for over 4 years with excellent reviews. They avoid customers, just be alert and never keep money in your balance account with them. They will shut you done without reason or validating the reason. Get a ground line or live chat agent Mercari. Move over to Poshmark they are available for their customers.

Worst
October 6, 2017

Dont waste your time selling here. Customer service does not protect sellers from scammers. Had someone buy something claiming they didnt receive the item when the tracking status specifically stated. Had sold here 29 times and received all five star rating. They suspended my account and when i asked why all they said was the customer didnt receive the item. Sell from this app if you like to give stuff out for free and deal with liars.

I bought a dress for my daughter on Mercari. It had a small tear. Which I shared with them. They refused my return. Also, the description was misleading on the size. Turns out it was an XXsmall. Has tags stating this size. Could have easily been added to the description. Instead the description refuted to size medium. I will never use this site again. Buyers beware!

I have been an avid Mercari user for sometime and I has mistakenly tried to trade items with a few sellers. I got a few warnings but they did not explicitly state what I did wrong so i wasn't sure. When I did find out, it was too late. They suspend ed my account forever and will never let me back on mercari. No leniency and no human decency. I miss selling and obviously would not attempt to trade now that i know it's against their rules but they dont care and will never let me back on the app. Guess they're making enough money they dont care if 1 person can't use it anymore.

I purchased a skirt which was listed as good condition on Mercari. When I received it, I found some light brown marks and wanted to return it. The customer service representative Ron denied my request because the item was listed as "good condition" so it's NORMAL to have stains. And he said if I don't like it, I can relist it for a new buyer... WTF?! Why would I have to list a skirt with stains and find another dummy buyers in order to get my money back? Totally unacceptable. I won't purchase again.

I ordered an item from mercari. HUGE MISTAKE! They took my money and said I would get an email when my item ships. Almost a week passes with no email so I go get into my account. It said my item shipped, but 11 hours later it informs me * the seller cancelled the transaction. They also claimed that repeated emails "bounced back" to them (claims email was wrong) COMPLETE bull$#*! since it shows my correct email address right in my account info. Now I have to fight these thieves to get my money back! Definitely going to help take these scumbags down!

Best shopping App!

I know they have a bad reputation but this is my favorite place to buy/sell. They only take 10% opposed to Poshmark which is 20%, makes a huge difference for a seller and shipping is a lot cheaper too, can even do free shipping on things, which I use all the time on light items like makeup and tops to make it more attractive to buyers. Yes, you have to be careful as far as fake makeup but it's pretty obvious if it's too good to be true, it is. Sign up and use this code to get $2 off any purchase: NYVPRH.
