I won an auction in September, communicated w/seller, transferred $4.75 to her PayPal account for shipping. Seller acknowledged, sent tracking number, which did not work. Item never arrived, I contacted Listia who transferred the credits back to my account. My inquiries regarding the $4.75 shipping were ignored. They have a good idea but lousy customer service.
I have sold many of used toys, cds, books on Listia. It amazes me that everything I listed was sold, including even a Chinese movie, an artist graphics biography, a kid poetry book. The site is definitely easy and rewarding to use. I was able to buy new race car toy, some used puzzles and books for my kids before the Christmas.
I trust Listia, as if I don't get item auctioned, I would get my credits back through Listia moderators. Overall, I love this site.
I really enjoy Listia. It reminds me of the way ebay used to be, which means dealing with individual sellers. Most of the complaints here seem to be solved by "buyer beware" - if you buy from a seller with a low rating, well, you know what you are getting into. I've won brand new Urban Decay makeup (on Listia) and a ton of new unique and vintage jewelry. I love it! Things I didn't want and would have thrown out have been transformed into Jewelry and I didn't pay anything to make it happen. I only bid on things with free shipping. I spend a lot of time on there and always have fun searching for ending soonest
I love listia, because I can get rid of the stuff that has been laying around the house - things like cd's and my old stamp collection. In return, I can get gift cards or items my kids want for Christmas. Just like any other auction site, you do have to be careful who you do business with, but the choices are endless, and "free" is always good! I also like the sense of community that comes from doing business with the same people, as listia is still small enough to be personal, but big enough to have choices.
Tom- the credit value is making it impossible for sellers to make any credit value at all or even spend it! IT seems the bottoming out of the value of credits is happening every couple of weeks now! 1000 credits is about 20 cents and no one in Listia admin raises the starting of 499 to make it even possible to cover an envelope postage as it used to be. Why on earth are you making the credits so value-less? You want buyers to BUY more from you but your SELLERS are the bread & butter for your company and you are chasing them away! I see the quality of items listed decreasing too, all because no one can get anything for their items!
As an experienced and avid seller ( and buyer) I am getting very distraught.
What is Listia trying to do here? Truthfully! I'd really like to hear the reasoning...
PLUS the rewards store is boring and worthless but that's a different story...
Hello Em H.,
First off, I’d like to apologize for any frustration this has caused. I will try to best explain the reason behind the credits not being released immediately
As you know, immediate transfer of credits is a courtesy that we extend to our most Trusted Sellers. In some cases, even for Trusted Sellers, credits will go into a pending state. This will occur from time to time based on your trusted credit amount, credits being used on the items you are currently bidding on, and your completion rate. You currently have a specific amount in your trusted limit of credits. When you win an auction, such as your most recent won auctions, you are using a portion of that trusted credits in your credit balance. This is why some of your recently sold auctions are pending because we don't "advance" more than the total amount of credits currently at a time.
I hope this answers your question and helps you better understand the process of how credits immediately transfer to your account.
Thank you.
Tom
I have been a member for almost 2 years. I have won some great items and given away many great items. There are always bad apples that spoil things, but you have to be smart and read the listings and comments. I have had a couple of bad sellers not follow through, but you get that on any auction site. Ebay has scammers and fraudulent sellers as well. Most often the ones who complain are the ones who were suspended for violation the rules, *They are sent an email with the reason for suspension. I love Listia and will continue to be on there offering my items and winning more great things.
I've never left a review before in my life, but I just happened to Google Listia and saw the overwhelming number of negative reviews. My experience has been nothing like these and I've had dozens if not 100 or more transactions on the site.
Aside from a handful of disappointing experiences, which I think should be expected on any site like this, I've continually enjoyed the experience. Admins have been very helpful in the rare instances that I've needed them.
This is a unique concept that I feel is being managed quite effectively. Assuming these users pay attention to exchange rates to get a good idea of what to expect and only interact trusted users, I'm surprised to see so many one-star reviews.
I don't doubt the validity of anybody else's account, but I just wanted to provide my perspective as a consistently satisfied user.
Hi. Thanks for the review! We're glad that you have been enjoying your experience with us. We do acknowledge that at times some auctions don't end favorably, but the majority of them do complete with a positive experience for both parties. We are always working on making sure the Listia community remains fun for all. We're glad you are satisfied and that you are part of our community. Thanks!
First it was a great site to sell as other reviewers mention. But the credits devalue very quickly so I highly recommend you buy something as soon as you sell. Also, there are a lot of foreign sellers now selling cheap foreign made items. This site use to have a big garage sale or flea market feel, now it has a "Big-Lots" feel to it.
I have been buying and selling on Listia. For over a year! I mainly sell beads and jewelry making supplies and I turn around my credits and buy all sorts of things for my family! I have purchased gifts, toys, clothing, craft supplies, and many many gift cards at Listia.com. I actually funded a large portion of my Christmas shopping with gift cards from Listia this year. I have occasionally had difficulty with individual users, but there are always bad apples out there... but the site itself is GREAT! Thanks Listia!
I was with Listia from Day 3 of launch. It had a rough start and then evolved into a fun site. Then they offered 'Get it Now' buying. As a result, inflation soared. Now they've jumped on the high-risk crypto currency bandwagon. During that transition, I spent down the credits I had and decided that Listia was no longer worth my time. It's so much cheaper to buy from eBay since many Listia sellers are listing their products at outrageous prices. Items I planned to sell on Listia are now being sold weekly at the local flea market. What doesn't sell goes to charity. I will maintain my membership should things change; but for now, goodbye, Listia.
I started trading on Listia from Day #3 of its launch. The credit concept is wonderful. I was an avid seller and bidder. Unfortunately, for the last few years, I've had to deal with their out-of-control inflation. I warned them of this three or four years ago, when it started to escalate. They did not act, but only replied that they were keeping an eye on it. Then they compounded the problem by offering 'Get it Now' purchases. Now sellers are asking astronomical amounts for their wares, often leaving out the auction process. I rarely list items anymore and will only bid on low-credit items on occasion. Listia must do something to curb the inflation or I see a demise of the site in the months ahead.
As a premise, Listia is a nice idea: give away things you don't want or need any more, and bid for things you like. However, the very nature of human beings means it attracts a large number of undesirable individuals: fraudsters, scammers, cheats and leeches. Lots of the things being given away are little more than worthless rubbish (old bus tickets for example), while others are fakes and still others are very low quality costume jewelry one could buy from a high street store for next to nothing. Needless to say, most of the members are in the USA, and overseas members get a pretty rough deal, being expected to pay the postage both for items they give away, and items they bid on. Beware of scammers offering worthless goods and charging through postage.
Hi Matt P.,
Thanks for your feedback. We try our best to keep our site fun and safe for our users. Our mods and even users diligently flag and help remove any users that do not bring quality to the site and our valued users. At times, a few bad eggs get through, but we are aware and continue to make sure things are taken care of for our community's safety. As for postage, many members are from the US, but you'll be surprised to see how many of our users are not. As we continue to grow, I'm sure our members will be able to provide and find postage that is favorable for all. Thank you for being a user and we hope you continue to enjoy our site.
Sincerely,
Tom
I'm really so upset about a problem that i'm having on Listia. I don't understand why the moderators dislike me so much.
I have been enjoying this site for months... i think i'm addicted to it... but that's going to have to change i guess. I had a really good auction of an old Waltham Pocket Watch of my Dad's. A lot of people were interested in it and i got a nice high bid. The person that won gave me positive feedback. And a couple days later wanted his credits back. The moderator sided with him, without telling me why. I had not broken any rules.
I guess the worst part is that i don't have 400,050 credits to refund. So i'm sure i will end up banned soon. Very sad and upset :(
Hi Janet. We're sorry to hear you're upset with the Admin's decision. If you haven't already, please submit a support ticket as we'd like to clarify the reason why the Admin refunded the credits to the Winner. We want to make sure you know why this action was taken. Thank you.
Lots of junk. People list their used items and free samples with hopes of trading them into something better! I've been a member for about 4 months now and found a few good items but you need to search diligently through the listings and figure out if your actually paying more for the item with your credits than you would be paying with actual money. Had great hopes for this sight but all in all really disappointed.
Stay away from this website. The owners seem to have a million accounts and just award themselves credits to buy up anything good. You can spot some of them easy though. Biggest and most obvious gimmick around. You'll find they are often the 'buyers' who don't pay up, until say 20 days has passed, will you get the payment, worthless credits that they are? Possibly not. As for the users of the site, the regular users are the scum of the Earth, the type eBay would ban at a moments notice. So if you really want the stress for a few worthless credits, and really want to give up your personal details to angry weirdo's, then Listia is the place for you.
Listia started out to be wonderful but now they are getting credit hungry and if you have an object that is worth more credits they have several different credit fees- very disappointed and am thinking about looking elsewhere.
I've gotten a lot of great things from Listia. Things I would have probably paid a lot of money for on ebay, so in that respect, I love the site. It gets expensive giving out free shipping when listing your own auctions, but I think the costs I've paid for shipping are kind of an exchange for the cool stuff I've received. Now, there IS a ghetto section of Listia that makes me cringe. Almost everything in the 'Digital Delivery' section is ridiculous. They should only allow gift cards. Period. I've seen what looks like 16 year old girls listing 'PICS OF ME' and crappy wallpapers and recipes you could get from google in three seconds. It's really creepy and makes me ashamed to share the site with others.
Hello Lauren E.,
Thank you for comments and feedback. We are always focusing on improving our community and positively grow our site. The majority of the auctions on Listia are great items, but there are times when certain auctions may not add great value to our site and its users. We have always strived to maintain a quality site and will continue to do so. As announced on November 3, our rules on Digital Delivery items have changed. You can read all about it here:
http://blog.listia.com/2014/11/03/rule-changes-for-digital-items-2/
In short, digital items that are are no longer allowed are:
- E-books and PDFs, including instructions, recipes, how-to guides, etc
- All other types of digital media (photos, music, text, etc) regardless of copyright ownership or resale rights
With this rule change, you should no longer see the “PICS OF ME”, wallpapers and recipes that you referred to. If you do, you can always flag the auction and someone will take care of it.
Thank you again for the feedback and for being an active member. We hope that your experience on Listia will continue to be a good one!
Sincerely,
Tom
Tom is always sorry to hear about the 1000's of complaints members of his website have. But never accepts responsibility for anything. It's always someone's else's fault.
Tom F. Always uses a cut and paste response.
Tom F. Never has any actual solution for the problem. Just some vague response to make it seem like he cares.
Tom F. Has apologized over 1000 times on behalf of listia.
Hey tom. If your constantly apologizing. Maybe you should recognize the problems and fix them instead of being the stooge who is dumb to the facts...->. F, Tom F...
I was really enjoying this site for a couple of months, really liked sending and receiving things from all over the world. Very user friendly. Unfortunately, my account was suspended for reasons that were not true. They said that I was bidding on my own auctions to "funnel" credits. This came about because my son bid on one of my auctions to win something for his girlfriend for Valentine's Day. He has his own account, that he was logged into from his own phone. They said that we had the same IP address. There is no way in the world that this is true. There is something seriously wrong with their system that would allow them to think that.
It is not a scam or a rip off site, but they have problems that still need to be worked out. So do not get too involved, sending your goodies all over the world because if they shut off your account, you lose everything.
I have used this site for over a year now. At first I was addicted but as time went by that feeling gave way to basic anger of the way Listia solves problems They send generic answers to problems that do not solve anything. For instance when an auction is closed and nothing has been resolved they send these generic answers that cannot help you because its closed and there are NO buttons that work to click on F#!*&^(*) very frustrating to say the least my credits they never credited me for was also given to me as a FU we did too Never did a human take a calculator to see they did screw me! Never did I get anything/problem solved with satisfaction! They never credited me for 3 of my auctions I held (total was around 7000) Plus 2 people ripped me off my shipping payments ($5.00) All this has sucked the fun out of Listia for me
Answer: Stacy L Some sellers can even display they really sent mail, they take digital photo when they send mail. They can even show out. But because listia recoginze tracking code. Even if you can even display the mail and correct address correct person, showing u had really sent mail, because no tracking code. Listia would still return all credit back to buyer.
Answer: Because listia is a joke. Complete scam..
Answer: Its just a game even the verified people you cant trust to many children on listia and grown men that act like children
Answer: Listia is an online marketplace where you win other people's stuff using credits instead of money. All users on our site act as both a Buyer and Seller. If you are bidding on items you want from our site, you are considered a Buyer. If you are giving away items on our site, you are considered a Seller :)
Answer: They don't deal in cash, unless you want to buy listia credits. That being said, you can make some bank if you have a good product by what credits you make on it. Then, you could use those credits to bid on gift cards and more pricey stuff that has actual value. I use the site for hard to find seeds, and it has been good for me. As for making money? Not so easy to see a real profit.
Answer: I hate that so much. You might want to contact the owners themselves and report it since they may not even be verified, meaning it's not even safe for the seller.
Listia has a rating of 2.1 stars from 415 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Listia most frequently mention customer service, gift card and many people. Listia ranks 165th among Auction sites.
Hello Susan B.,
Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear that the auction you won did not end successfully. I’m glad to hear your credits were refunded, but also share in the disappointment of the shipping payment you made. As much as we’d like to help you retrieve the shipping payment, as stated in our terms:
http://www.listia.com/terms

Listia is not responsible for any lost shipping expenses and cannot refund or help recover shipping expenses for any reason, including lost or stolen items, damaged items or non-shipment.
Contacting PayPal to retrieve your payment would be the best option in your situation. As a future note, when using PayPal, don't send the payment as a gift or personal payment.
I hope your next auctions has a happier ending. If you need any other assistance, please submit a support ticket and we will help you there:)
