ID.Me has the best customer service I've seen. They are polite, helpful and they act like professionals.
It took me 4 or 5 tries to register with the ID.me website. When I finally got a clear enough picture of my driver's license (after several attempts), I was sent to have my portrait scanned on my iPhone. After scanning my portrait, the service gave a "high website usage" error and told me to try again later. This happened 2 or 3 times. When I finally got past that I was told that my phone could not be validated, despite the fact that I was using my iPhone to receive text authentication codes to log into the site in the first place. When I got to that point a 2nd or 3rd time, I clicked on the link to use another phone and entered my home phone number. That finally got me in and verified. This was a terrible experience, made far worse considering I was required to have a login on their site to get my IRS IP PIN so I could file my taxes electronically. A truly horrible signup experience
If your ID is from a different state and there's other things that don't match up, it might take a few tries to get it done.
It was easy to go through the process but it leaves me feeling cold that the Govt now has a facial scan. No telling what use it could be put to if thee wrong actor is in the right place. I'm not so worried because I think I don't have enough money or influence for anyone to want to corrupt the purpose of having that. Voter fraud? Numbers are important.
