I have attempted to work the process over many days. I need to verify my identity in order to apply for jobs. I have found ID.me to be terrible! The processes offered are non-functional. I could not confirm the option and proceed with taking a photograph of my state ID! I could not register to go to a post office because my phone number is not recognized! Because of those, I am now on deferred retirement, so no longer have a work number! I am in the process of getting a code by mail, and can only hope that (God willing) the process will work this time. Verifying my identity is essential, and this process is unwieldy, frustrating, and nonfunctional! It just doesn't work. I fear that my information and my identity have been compromised! Immediate work is needed to be done to return this process to operability. What a terrible, broken process! I'm very glad to speak in further detail with any representative who would care to call me..

I ran through login.gov through SSA website to create an online SSA account, just because it is the first option in the list. Every thing seems fine until the process of verifying phone number. (This is also true for ID.me)
I had literally wasted so many days in trying Login.gov and finally gave up! ID.me provides an extended video call to efficiently resolve the issue.
Personal thought: the phone number on my record for Login.gov and ID.me had been obsolete for a long time (>15 years). Trying to send any verification code to that number seems funny, if not stupid. I bet I am not the only person having this issue. The methodology of trying to match the phone number in the verification process should be revised in order to make it morevconvenient for genuine people.

ID me has simplified the process of signing in repeatedly into multiple websites and having to re-enter my secured information repeatedly. It gives you peace of mind in knowing that not only is your information secure, but the users on the other end are verified as well. I can breathe a little easier as I enter new sites because this service is extremely secure.
If everything goes well, it might be a smooth sailing. However any hiccup results in cryptic error messages, which takes hours to figure out and days to correct.
Unfortunately IRS made this the only way of getting into their system, so now we're stuck.
