ID.me simplifies how individuals prove and share their identity online. The ID.me secure digital identity network has over 98 million members, as well as partnerships with 30 states, 10 federal agencies, and over 500 name-brand retailers.
The company provides identity proofing, authentication and community verification for organizations across sectors. The company's technology meets the federal standards for consumer authentication and is approved as a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2 / AAL2 conformant credential service provider by the Kantara Initiative. ID.me's Identity Gateway also has a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate Authority to Operate (ATO). ID.me is the only provider with video chat and is committed to "No Identity Left Behind" to enable all people to have a secure digital identity.
The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in its identity verification service, which many users found secure and efficient, particularly praising the helpfulness of customer service during video calls. However, significant concerns were raised regarding the complexity of the verification process, which some customers found frustrating and time-consuming, particularly older users or those with unique identification issues. Additionally, delays and technical difficulties, including issues with document acceptance and login credentials, have led to dissatisfaction among several users. Overall, while the service is valued for its security, improvements in user experience and support are essential.

First they force you to do paperless letters, then they force you to use digital ID, then they ask you why you chose digital ID. I never chose to do it, I had to do it to get into my account. This is for surveillance and control.
I'm not friendly with computers so I set it to make it more secure and have a quicker sign in that gives me a better experience.
Part of the process requires you to prove your identity by taking a "video selfie" to compare against the drivers license photo. If your license photo required you to remove your glasses, you need to remove them for the selfie. When the program tells you to move back, move to the left, etc., it is extremely difficult to read and follow those instructions.
Two attempts to upload the required goverment issued ID cards. Then did the conference call. Waited 30 minutes and attempted login, failed. Reverted back to know login system, L9GIN.GOV. Access grated. Why use outside Contracted system like ID.me? Why "fix" what's not broken?
The initial process to obtain ID.me credentials was a bit lengthy and rigorous and it required me to use a computer with a camera and a microphone, but the person who took me through the process was kind and helpful. Given how many data breaches have exposed a lot of my personal information I appreciate any extra protection against hackers and thieves.
I gave the website everything they wanted, including Social Security number and it still would not let me get into the information on my Social Security site. Very bad experience tried it about 10 times. I won't try it again if they want me, they can give me a call.
You are required to provide personal information, including your Social Security number, which they should already have obtained from other sources. In addition, if you try to complete the process on a device such as an iPad, (which I did) you will be required to find someone that has a cell phone as a second means of obtaining a video selfie. I did not like either of these aspects.
Can't believe that the IRS allowed me to use the surface without telling me in advance that they were a private company. I find a terrifying that I gave them all this information thinking that it was part of the US.
Lousy service I never got the documents I needed after being id because I didn't know my phone number from 20 years ago yet I was already verified so WHAT WAS THE POINT OF BEING VERIFIED
Terrible because I don't understand why establishing and accessing the account is not as simple as establishing and accessing social security account.
Sometimes things get complicated and all of a sudden you have a great day accessing and accomplishing what you set out to do Today I set out to file my benefits thought it was going to be complicated and it wasn't it was extremely great and easy thank you
Easy verification process, everything user friendly. Wait time increased & decreased in time. Should have stayed persistsnt. Overall great experience!
Waited 59 minutes but in reality waited more like hr and half as time got lower it would suddenly jump back up another 10 min here 20 minutes there
ID me gives me access to very important information that I need to gain access to easily and I avoid the long phone calls hassle. Thank you ID.me
Family and friends recommended it but I chose not to do it because I don't like to learn new stuff, I am old school. I had to open an account for IRS purposes and to my surprise it was that simple. Feel confident that my info is secure.
It's complicated and take too much time. However, several governmental institutions force you to use it. So, it's not a choice you make.
ID.ME was unable to verify a 50 year old landline and it took 3 video calls, but it finally got done. Tip: save your uploaded documents, had to upload them every time I tried as they were not saved when taking pictures of them through the app.
This was a form of harassment, as I felt it was a red flag. I immediately contacted the VA reporting the issue and the fact that the car dealer demanded that I provide my log in credentials. This allowed the salesclerk to access my VA credentials. That could have resulted that the sales representative could have easily taken a picture of the screen. Too much information could have been breached and resulted on the dark web. As a senior citizen that served during the Vietnam conflict, I do not need or want to be exposed to fraud. There is just too much fraud these days because the WWW has too much informatoin.
Quick and easy verification. I was apprehensive at first, but it turned out to be a great experience using ID me. I would recommend it.
