Yesterday, as my company struggled to get transcripts of our 2023 tax returns (Accountant has disappeared and our files with him, and the owner has passed away.) When I logged into irs.gov/business site and tried to apply for a transcript it asked me for my ID.me sign in or to create a new one. Since my boss is deceased it was necessary to create a new account (login wise) for the IRS.
I was concerned that they site (ID.me) was asking for my personal email. But I moved forward, and now realize that my personal email is simply a tool to communicate with me. Within my profile, I was able to review and confirm who I was and then allowed me to go into the IRS site and associate me with my company.
My biggest regret is that I didn't stumble upon this option - but that is no fault of ID.me.

EVERY time that I have used ID me (3 times) the next day I get a scam email that includes personal information. This time the email that of course demanded payment now included my license plate number, full name. This site has proved unsafe to me. BEWARE!
