Cheap and convenient site to get someone to date at your fingertips via iPhone app. Being member of it makes you get recommended and it's interesting to meet people in this way. After your dating, I can rate the other I have met. Cool!
This used to be a good site and I made a great friend who lives in the UK here several years ago when the site was well run by the two Js who have since sold it.
I would STAY FAR AWAY from any site that tries to manipulate you into linking it to Facebook! BIGGGGGG privact isue there!
HotOrNot used to b cool & now with the new upgrade it has gone down the toilet! Why should u have to use third party like Facebook, Twitter to access App? I liked the fact that it was separate and prefer if they would at least give u a choice. I don't want my FB profile to b linked with the HotOrNot website! Creating an App was a good idea as the old website was sometimes frustrating when writing messages but only from in the sense that it was formatted for PC. The old website was better coz u could rate pple for fun & there was no limit on how many. There was time n date stamp of when pple u were chatting to i. E timeline of u'r chat history, & if they had seen u'r last message... Bring back the old version STAT! Coz the new one sucks!
Now that I read about pple's old profiles that were deleted & removed are now being automatically reactivated is disturbing!
Too confusing. Cant even figure out how to rate people half the time. Have to pay for stupid sh*t. Idk. Used to be awesome.
The site went down the toilet when the two Asian guys sold it around 2007. I'm guessing they sold it to India or some other far-flung place because its now an unmoderated site. Anyone else remember that hotornot411 email address? It no longer responds to emails. There's a good amount of unsettling šhit on the site, too, like neo-nazi/racist/homophobic interest tags and images.
This used to be a cool site that you could kill some time goofing around. Now it is some stupid dating site that gives 99% of its former users something they don't want
HotorNot used to be a fairly good site. However, after the recent overhaul of the site, its essentially become a part of the Badoo network (its parent company owns HotorNot now). Previous user accounts that were deactivated are once again active.
The rating option is still there, but I really had to work to find it, because they didn't list it on your homepage anymore, and they also limit the number of ratings you can give in a day. Anything beyond putting in a simple profile requires the use of credits, which obviously costs money.
Overall, the original experience has diminished, and at this point its hard to tell how much of the userbase are fake.
Was a good site like 7 to 3 years ago but recently, like mid March it got completely revised and it is horrible. You can't do anything on there without paying for it, total waste of time.
This site WAS cool before it became a pay site. There is no more "double matching" (which was the best feature of the site) and it seems like over half of the female profiles are fake. I am seeing the same catchphrases and writing styles on many of the profiles. I have a strong suspicion that the ratings are artificially inflated too. I can't imagine anyone would actually pay to join this site.
Interestingly enough, two of my best, longest friends, were met on hotornot about 7 years ago. I never subscribed, but they did and were able to msg me. I got them on msn, spoke to them, met, became close, and they are still here. One lives all the way across the world, but I've slept with one various times. Goes to show that some of these sites honestly work.
Seems to me to have a biased system for rating people-It can really hurt someone with self esteem issues. I think people should make up their own minds for themselves as to who they think is "hot or not" and not let some rating system on a site tell you one person is better than the other because of looks and not because of qualities!
This site isn't all that hot if its got to play that game!
Hotornot.com just underwent a "makeover", and it's even worse that it was before.
What can we say? I've been a member of HON for so many year way back in 2004 when they were just babies, and Jim and James were a couple of U. C. Berkeley grads trying to make the site go. Back then, the site was awesome. Maybe you even heard reference to it in the recent film, "The Social Network." It used to be good. I went on plenty of dates, and I even meet two of my long-term girlfriends on there--years ago, when real girls actually had profiles.
However, in 2008 Jim and James cashed in and sold the site to some big corporation. (I don't blame them.) I have seen the site change and evolve over the years now. I can only say that it has gotten progressively worse. Each "upgrade" destroys the simplicity and grace of the original site, and more and more bugs are introduced without their ever being fixed. The main one is that searching for others in a specific region pulls profiles from all around the world! I checked with HON, logged a bug, and they said they were working on it to fix the problem. That was three years ago! It's still not fixed, and in this recent "makeover", the geo search is still whack. These most recent design changes now seem to make the site harder to use.
That's not all. My frustration has progressively grown over the years with the increasing influx of what look like fake profiles. I would commend the HON owners (not Jim and James anymore, unfortunately) if it seemed like they engaged in due diligence to remove these profiles. But they have not removed these profiles... even as they are flagged, even as I have logged specific cases, where they respond that "they're working on it". But they don't do anything. It seems like there are even more now with this so called upgrade. I can only assume that the corporate owners don't care they just want to suck out the money of suckers who sign up for the non-refundable, automatically renewing subscription. Maybe the corporate owners think that it's not in their interest to remove fake profiles because it helps make it look like their user base is larger than it really is. Or even worse--maybe they're creating these profiles themselves.
Sorry, guys. This site has gotten worse and worse over the years. And the new "makeover" doesn't do anything for it. You might be lured in by all the "hot girls" on there, but don't waste your time, don't waste your money. They are fake, and you will never meet anyone.
Definitely sucks that its not really for dating. If all you can do is rate people, there is no reason to pay for it. Why pay to rate people? Not sure how accurate that is anyway, I've seen some ok girls with 8+ ratings, they are cute but not hot. It's not a meter for hot, cute, sexy, all they way to butt ugly. It should be either hot or not. They can still be cute but not hot. Doesn't make sense.
Another bogus website. Lots of pretty faces, no real hookups.
Finding date on this site? - this is the most random dating site in the world... click on a 1000 girls and maybe you will get 1 double match from some ugly girl in Ohio. Not particularly worth it I think. But it is really cheap and it is fun to do. I downloaded the google app and can now find dates while doing my regular work. Sure I may never land a 9.5 girl, but if I'm in the mood for a 3.4 girl, then I can get me some action.
Answer: Don't give her your bank info, Vic! Of course it's not legitimate! The whole HotorNot is not legitimate, they seem to have gathered all scammers in the world! Be very careful if you decide to keep using it. I found a better and safer site http://J4Bride.com No woman has ever tried to scam or rip me off there. They are all real, genuine and not so materialistic. I don't want to disappoint you, but I'm pretty sure that this girl who is asking you for your bank info on HorOrNot is nothing but a scammer. It's a typical situation on HotOrNot and it was the reason why I left it.
