Avoid this company at all costs! Their customer service is terrible, and they engage in unauthorized charges that border on criminal activity. I was charged for a domain that expired seven years ago, despite informing them I no longer wanted it. Instead of notifying me back then, they silently withdrew funds from my account without my consent.
This company operates with deceptive and unethical billing practices, making them completely untrustworthy. Their service is incompetent, and they have no business being in the hosting industry. If you value your money and sanity, stay far away from this scam of a company!
No one answers the phone at any time and you have to jump thru hoops to verify your identity just to pay your invoice.
Had my domain expire while i was away and i'm trying to pay the invoice. I don't know my client id as it's a unique number as opposed to my email address and when chatting with whoever is on the chat feature they asked for the last 4 digit of my credit card that i paid the last invoice with that was over a year ago.
I clicked on reset my password but since my email was locked down i couldn't get to that link. Was told i needed the 'Advanced team' to walk me thru the rest of the painful process. Lucky i had a backup email to use or that would have been it. They send you a link to where you need to upload your id and do a selfie where it tells you to turn your head in a circle wft ever that means but after several attempts at standing on my head i was able to get it to go past that point.
Eventually resetting my password but then was locked out for too many attempts and couldn't pay my invoice anyway. It's now been almost 2 hours of me attempting to login to pay my invoice and in that time i have purchased a vehicle thru a dealer who could use what is called a telephone and we were able to conclude the entire dealer with him taking my visa card and sending me the invoice.
The world we live in is made of terrible customer service and as i sit here wondering if this review will ever get posted i wonder where we are going in the information age.

Been with Lunar pages for decades - now that Hostpapa bought them out its horrible, expensive and uses all the rotten tricks. Bait and switch, insane monthly rates for one Wordpress website. Capped bandwidth. Just a horrible hosting company stay away.
I am a long time client of hostpapa. Recently I started receiving emails from a hostpapa account manager saying there is some "issue" (that was unspecified) and that if I did not upgrade (adding $49.95 a month) they would suspend the account in 24 hours. However, no specific issue was given (just that there was an issue). In addition, my account control panel shows no issues for the services they are providing. This actually sounds fraudulent and I certainly would NOT recommend hostpapa to anyone. ZERO stars! (if I could)
400% more expensive than average for hosting. Tech support are not trained to communicate effectively with the general public. Unless you're an IT nerd, you don't want hosting with these people. They are unhelpful expensive geeks.
They give you very small I/O limits so literally any wordpress plugin installation or updates will cause it to go over and then they'll try to pressure you into upgrading to their ultimate plan, even if all you have is a static site with 4 visitors a week. It's scammy.
Host Papa is terrible. They destroyed a great company (Lunarpages) when they took it over. Host Papa is desperate for money - constantly trying to upsell and always threatening to take down your site. I was with Lunarpages since the 90's without a single problem. Now, I spend more time responding to Host Papa's relentless emails about my usage - than anyone should. If you have more than 2 visitors per month to your site - or even if you don't - be prepared for "over use of resources" emails filled with threats. They sold the service, now they don't want to honor it, or need more money. Go somewhere else, stay away from Host Papa.
I paid for bigger package and after few months I started to get emails about going over limits. So I had a consultation with my webmaster and with HostPapa, I made few changes but they were saying that I'm still going over - my website was so small (blog with 10 articles and listed services) it didn't make sense. They postponed my website twice and were punching me into buying extra services!
I changed a provider, was transparent with them about what happened with HostPapa, they've checked everything's and said that my website is small and everything's all right.
Don't be confused with 5 starts reviews - those are for features they have listed, not actual client's reviews.
I've had my site with Hostpapa since launching it in 2015 and I am absolutely useless when it comes to technology. With that in mind, Hostpapa have always been incredible with their customer support, as they're incredibly quick to respond and will always take the time to help you fix a problem. They have a customer for life in me.
I had a simple photo website with at most 100-200 meg of traffic per month. All was good for many years, then suddenly I receive nasty grams that I'm using too much resources. When a hosting company tries this scam, I just shut down my site and see if it is a scam. Sure enough, Hostpapa kept sending the nastygrams that I had to upgrade due to the massive traffic on my site (which wasn't even up).
Pure sleaze!
When deciding to purchase HostPapa service, I pointedly asked the sales representative if there was automatic renewal of service.
I was told: NO.
Now, I see I'm billed $400 for a renewal I did not ask for. I had no intention of renewing owing to bad service.
As a corporate customer, we have experienced the most chaotic web provider with the worst service we have encountered anywhere in the world over the last 20 years. One gets the impression that one hand does not know what the other is doing, or one might come to the conclusion that this behavior is intentional, which seems more likely to us now. Two unsuccessful attempts to cancel all services, with only the third attempt after weeks seeming to work. Charges continue to be made to the credit card even after this was disputed by us at the first attempt. There are no refunds, with the explanation that the charge occurred before the cancellation was processed. From our perspective, this behavior is no longer just dubious but outright criminal, especially given that this does not appear to be an isolated case but many other users report similar experiences. We have passed the matter on for review to our legal team and issued a warning about this hosting service across our entire corporate group.
You lied and got me to upgrade when I didn't need it, offered me a $50 credit to make up for it (but never gave it to me), told me that I had to PAY if I wanted to downgrade from the plan I was manipulated and lied into getting, tried to get me to renew a year early and forfeit my last year on a great price, took away any admin tools to monitor my own file safety, charged my credit card A MONTH IN ADVANCE OF RENEWAL WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, and then took ZERO responsibility and showed no remorse for doing so... and then offered me a 10% discount on your inflated prices. But other than that, you're pretty $#*!ing awesome! Good riddance.
I was with hostpapa for 2 years. Havnt changed anything on the website during this time. They started email me saying my website consume too much ressources. But I havnt change anything! They kept insisting on buying upgrades wich I dont need. Dont go on this hosting company, they are pure scammers. They even blocked my website and the result is I lost money by their fault.
They recorded customer's credit card and renew with a very, very and very expensive price for customer automatically without authorization from customer. This was done during the Covid pandemic period. We don't have staff to check the bank details daily. The renew has 3-4 times priced above your initial order. However when we try to use it, it says your resource is limited which can not support a very small website setup. We had never been able to setup a very basic website and the system always says the resource limit. And ask us the pay more money above the $738.53 they have charged in this year. Be careful when you buy service form this company. A really rubbish business which is originated from Canada.
I have a very simple need for basic email hosting and a single 1 page website - no ecommerce. Lured in with what appeared to be an inexpensive & simple solution soon added up. They love sneaking in extra charges and annual fees which first appeared to be part of their 3 year package, but soon you realise aren't. They are not very transparent with charges and fees. Soon I was paying considerably more and receiving way less than I expected.
I have to manually download back up almost every second day or the back up fails with no more space as the backup they offer at a basic level gets you nowhere and has to be manually deleted when full before it continues the service.
Support personnel have also been somewhat arrogant and rude giving me the impression I am wasting their time when I call with an issue.
I have no intention of renewing with them and even considering moving before my 3 years are up, joining them has been the worst decision I have made.
I signed up for business package and have a simple website but have been hounded by them saying my website is using too much resources. Service was terrible and constantly being told usage is high and I need to upgrade. Cheap rates then hounded yo pay more. Not happy.
Do not give this company your credit card. They charged my card for an extra line item to the tune of $650 without my consent, after years of simple domain name renewals at $22.59. And they refuse to refund me the extra charge. I've had to submit a dispute through my credit card. Absolutely shocked by this - no invoice, no receipt, just a wild charge and refusal to refund. DO NOT TRUST!
I've been hosting with Hostpapa for many years without any issues. I have multiple Wordpress websites and recently have upgraded to their managed Wordpress web service. They offer the best customer support if you ever run into any issues. I strongly recommend them.
Answer: I referred then to many clients, their support has been great, but now I need to go back and apologize to everyone.
Answer: Hosting in Canada which is a requirement under some Canadian privacy laws.
Answer: Legit company but extremely aggressive in upselling. They limit their resources and then try to threaten to shut you down if you don't upgrade.
