The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Their "professional" referrals are little at best! I'd give them a 0 if i could! Stay away from this website or "All My Sons" moving company,! They charge for strips of tape used! Are u kidding me?!
Obviously Home Advisor is a SCAM! The most recent "LEAD" I went to an estimate for was a lady who wasn't the owner of the property. She was nodding out and wanted me to stay with her while she shot up again (WTF?!?!?!)... I PAID for this and can't get my hard earned money BACK! Not only that! I have been charged over $300 ($600 if you include the sign up fee) in two weeks of having home advisor for ALL - not some, not most, not 99% - ALL, HORRIBLE LEADS.
I signed up with them my first year of business. Stupid me thought i wasn't getting business because of my poor sales ability. Clearly I was wrong. The leads are price shoppers period. Trash. Trash. Trash, customer service.
Do not do not donot sign up. Do door hangers instead.
If you are a contractor, do not use this lead service. They will take your money and leave you hanging. I have had this service for two weeks now and have not recieved a good lead yet.
The leads they give you do not work. I had a lot of leads an plenty of them don't answer. I registered on their site stating I did not get the job, customer not responding. If you did not get the job, your still being charged for the lead. Wow, some leads I did not call was on my statement, and you call them and they say, we do not return any money. Scam, Scam, Scam
Oh they went and charged my account
They sell each lead to 5-10 contractors! The chances for you to get a job from these leads are very small. Most customers get so many calls, they stop answering or just don't want to do business with Home Advisor because of that.
I just spent money with them, and got very little back. Most leads are bogus or not correct, the rest will make you give estimates when you compete with unlicensed contractors with no overhead. Your chances of getting the job are very slim.
Notice how all the good reviews on SiteJabber for HomeAdvisor are from customers who hired contractors on HomeAdvisor, not from contractors who use their platform. These reviews are about the contractors they hired, not even about HomeAdvisor.
This is what they do, they're trying to manipulate their bad reputation.
Stay away! Find another way to get leads.
HomeAdvisor makes believe to the home owner it's free to use. They don't say their charging the company they pick so if the homeowner isn't serious or list the work they want wrong or don't make any forum of contact like returning phone calls or emails they will not refund the money charges to company. Even if it's 100% justifiable the managers at homeadivior will tell you to keep harassing the homeowner basically. I'm speaking from first hand experience. That's completely wrong. They have stuck me with 800-1000 dollars in what they call non eligible credit in less than 6 months. They miss lead your customers and theirs.
Out of 8 requests for a quote since 2014 I received 2. The other requests went unanswered. The last request for a swimming pool repair was not only unanswered but HA connected me with a company in Colo. And I live in Ca. You can do better from word of mouth. One of the 2 repairs who did showup told me to call him direct next time as HA charges $35.00 to him just to use their service. The companies that are listed are only using the list as advertising and you would be better off contacting them direct for faster service.
Best source of all contractors to date in Orange, County, CA. Fences, roofs, house painting, plumbing, electrical.
I own a small company and was contacted by HomeAdvisor with potential requests to generate more leads, This company charged me for more than 1000 for leads that I never contacted or bogus leads.
Please do not waste your money on HomeAdvisor. If you are a hard worker like me with 5 star reviews everywhere, It will be the biggest mistake in your life to do any business with this company.
I hired a tree service recommended 5-stars on home advisor. Contractor called me at near completion of job to offer stump removal for another $300. I agreed & warned that there was sprinkler piping nearby. The stump removal was not done, left 3-foot stumps, sprinkler piping already broken (requiring repair), damaged the fence and other sprinklers in the front yard in the process. Then took the fee that included stump removal. I have already paid for sprinkler repair. Contractor has not responded to my latest texts. I have requested the stumps be cut as close to the ground as possible & the return of the $300 I paid for stump removal that was not done. Weeks later, no response to my latest text. All I want is what we agreed to, return of my $300, and no further interaction with this service. Home advisor was contacted - no satisfaction on my end. Beware...
I have never had to speak with a company like I have this one. We have been using 5 other lead generation companies and never experience anything like this with them. They charged us $800+ In leads we never accepted or contacted. After we already spent $400 in leads that had no success. When signing up for home advisor the customer representative that I talked to for two hours before joining homeadvisor didn't mention we would be billed for any leads sent regardless if we accept or contact the lead. She in fact, made it sound like I would only be charged for the ones I contacted. And when contacting customer service I was told that there was nothing they could do. Long story short, do not spend your hard earned money on this scam of a company that charges your card on file without authorization for leads you never used.
Outstanding, repaired deck railing and post. Replaced boards, completely repainted area and did exactly what was contracted for and in addition provided angles to increase stability of desk post. Completed the job on expected time and charges were exactly what the estimate had been. Mike was thorough, made sure that I saw what was being done. Strongly recommend.
When we were originally called about converting from pay-as-you-go, we told the sales rep we did not have money for a monthly budget amount for leads. We stated this repeatedly. We were told we would not have to set a monthly budget amount. That is obviously not true. After the "free" leads were exhausted there were several leads automatically accepted that totaled around $192.00. We accepted this in stride and paused the leads. Before they resumed I had a series of emails with the sales rep where I asked the question about leads being automatically accepted once the leads resumed. I never got a straight answer. When we resumed the leads, 3 leads were automatically accepted for about $157.00. I paused the leads and canceled the credit card. I called the sales rep who was not in. I spoke to customer care and then to someone in the cancellation department. I told him at that time to cancel our service. Since that time the sales rep has texted and spoke to my husband who told him the credit card has been canceled and we are not happy. The sales rep threatened with sending the account to collections. Then he called and said that the leads that had been automatically accepted had been removed. When I logged on to see what was going on, I found even more leads accepted and none removed. Leads were still coming in and being accepted until I paused them again. Someone had (not us) set the exact match leads budget at $350.00. This account was supposed to be closed. Their tactics are high handed, skirt the truth and fail to properly explain their wording and procedures and they outright lie at times.
It is not often that you find a quality contractor. Weatherproof roofing company is the exception/ We needed our flashing repaired ASAP. Adam came out on the weekend and gave me a reasonable quote and then had the work done a few days later. The price was reasonable and he did what he said he would do. He even fixed a couple of leaking pipes on the roof too.
Home Advisor sounds great but beware, they send irrelevant leads and charge you handsomely for them. We spent a small fortune for worthless leads. When we tried to cancel, they kept charging us. Two years after canceling they renewed us without permission and charged our credit card!
Take these bad reviews seriously! They are rip-offs!
The "handyman" that home advisor sent was totally unprepared and incompetent! I thought I was hiring a vetted, competent pro. What I got was an idiot. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there to hold his hand. When I got home and looked at what was done I was horrified and extremely pissed! I asked for some woodwork around my bay window to be replaced. What I got was some boards nailed up that didn't fit, were cut wrong and had gaps big enough to drive a semi through. What a terrible job. Definitely not the "weather tovht" that I requested. I guess I should have looked at the reviews first. That many horrible reviews would have turned me away before even thinking of booking w Home Advisor! Please, please, please save your money! Look elsewhere for home improvement service. At least I got my money back. The only reason I outsourced the job was A time crunch.
Started when the SLEAZY salesman lied to me during sign up for his commission check, then I was over charged for a lead and they refused to refund and said they only give credits. Who wants to do business with a company that lies and manipulates you to do business with them? DUH! STAY AWAY!
We started a small cleaning company. We paid them for a one year fee of $368.00 upfront. Then every time we received a lead they were charging $25-$60. The problem is every time a customer goes on to there site, even if they are just curious, they would charge us. so we were getting 4-5 leads a day and most of them were not serious. The first month we paid homeadvisor $995.00. We made $1,300 from leads through homeadvisor. They would not work with us at all. We told them that they were going to put us out of business. Even then they were not going to work with us! So after one month (paid for a year) we had no choice but to cancel. They do not refund anything. They say you can receive credit back on the leads, but you have to jump through hoops and they still don't give you the credit! You are better off spending your money on other advertisement.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
