HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

This is a scam
October 25, 2019

This company provides fantasy leads that don't exist. Phone numbers provided are not answered and calls not returned. I signed up and quit within three weeks after receiving NO credible leads but they attempted to charge me over $600.00 for nothing! I am disputing these charges on my credit card and the representative for my bank indicated that they had numerous complaints about HomeAdvisor and their business practice. STAY AWAY this is a scam.

I had called HomeAdvisor and set up a handyman service for the following week. The morning of the project I received two texts confirming the appointment at 8:30... by 10 o'clock no one had showed. I tried to call the phone listed on the text message and was informed they only communicate by email... when I opened my emails there's one from HA informing me that they had refunded my credit card... no other info. I called them and was told the handyman had canceled last minute. No text, no phone call, no reschedule... nothing but a generic email with no info. I am on a deadline and now have to scramble to find a REPUTABLE source to finish my project in time... BUYER BEWARE!

Dear Chai,

Please Note: You have remaining time on your membership and may occasionally receive Job Opportunities. You'll never be charged if you do not accept.

The leads never stop after my annual membership and my email is bombarded with emails, just recently I been charged for $280 for lead they said I accepted. I never did any business with HomeAdvisor. This sucks!

They promise a lot of new businesses but they charge you ahead of time for every lead even if you don't get the job... but the problem is that when you call customer within the minute... they don't answer, they never request anything, wrong phone number, fake people etc etc and they still take your money. Before signing it they used to call me everyday... now that I have questions and concerns they never return my messages and they take your money from your bank account every week... which I'm going to call my bank to stop these automatic withdrawals... companies please stay away from home advisors and find another way to get business... imagine getting money from 3-5 different companies from fake people?... they are Smart

I would recommend everyone to stop using their service which is no longer credible. I also signed up for fixed rate handyman service and prepaid flat $183 and then was assigned an unknown person with just first name, last name initials and his phone number with area code in California (my home is located in Alabama). It can be his cell phone number but in that case he should list other credentials to make him look trustable. I got no other information than his first name, last initials and mobile phone number. No company information. Being suspicious, I checked HomeAdvisor reviews and got frightened. I then called HomeAdvisor's customer service center to cancel my reservation. The operator said since their service has got taken over by a different company they no longer have the power to cancel my reservation. I attempted to cancel it online to no avail. There is no way you can cancel its reservation nor get the refund. I am pretty sure the "pro" assigned to me won't show up even if I keep my reservation, as I didn't input my street address when I made the reservation (I thought I will be asked to provide further information when a specific pro is assigned to me). This "pro" hasn't contacted me to ask about the details of my job request. No help is offered by HomeAdvisor. Totally incredible... this company is no longer the same company 5 years ago.

I foolishly signed up believing that a well known company like Home advisor was legit. Nothing could be further from the truth. They promised the world but only delivered a pile of $#*!. Of course they charge for every lead, I knew that going in, but I never expected to get so many that I couldn't even connect with. Fake calls? Probably. Some simply shopping around for prices. Not good when you get charged for every one. Tried to cancel very soon after joining but they wouldn't refund any money, including money put in an account to prepay for leads. Whatever you do DON'T JOIN... IF YOU DO PREPARE TO BE DISSATISFIED, DISAPPOINTED, AND RIPPED OFF! I am forced to give them one star to post this review, however, I really give them a 00! Rip off!
October 21, 2019

This company scams the contractors. Sends fake leads that don't answer calls, promises that only a couple people will be sent the lead and send it to several, cant turn off the app for more than a few hours and its back on. We told them only to send up to two per month for 50 dollars or less and they sent way more than that and kept taking money out without permission. Then they wouldn't shut down the account. Then they finally said they would settle for 400 plus dollars to make this go away and last month it was in collections for 600 plus and this month for 800 plus. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCAM COMPANY!

Bottom Feeders
October 19, 2019

All I have ever recieved for references were bottom feeder contractors.
Those that couldn't get work on their own due to poor reviews or other issues.
Some never called back, some are retired and doing as a hobby (really!?), some only have a few years experience.
I received better results on my own.
Stay away from this service!

Scammers!
October 18, 2019

During hurricane Irma, a small tornado dropped a tree on our house. Seven trusses were destroyed and we needed immediate tree removal before more damaged was done. We called Homeadvisor and they sent two dubious people in a beat up pickup truck. A crane would be required to remove the tree. They quoted a price of $4000 with a $2000 deposit so that they could hire someone with a crane. I called a tree service not associated with Homeadvisor, and they showed up at my house with a crane, a bucket, a bobcat, and everything else they would need to safely remove the tree. Not only did they remove the tree on my roof, they also remove another tree, cut everything up including a few large branches that had broke in the wind, and carry them all to the street for removal by FEMA. Total cost, $1500!
Obviously Homeadvisor does NOT vet its contractors. Beware of this scammers!

I went onto the homeadvisor website. They have fixed pricing for certain jobs. I clicked and scheduled to have my septic tank pumped. A service a majority of homeowners use on a regular basis. I selected a day and time (1 1/2 week away)input my credit card information and confirmed I was scheduling a septic pumping. A few days before the service was to happen I received a call from a contractor to confirm a pipe cleaning. I explained I needed a pumping not pipe cleaning. He told me sorry but he would contact homeadvisor to rectify the issue.

The day before the scheduled service I called homeadvisor to see the status. The first advisor I spoke with couldn't understand what the issue was. So I was transferred to a different advisor, shocking only spoke and understood broken English. He to couldn't understand what the issue I was having. He wouldn't stop speaking long enough for me to hardly talk. I finally had to get rude with him and demand to cancel the incorrect scheduled service and refund me.

If homeadvisor can't pay more attention to their customers needs I worry how they intend to take care of they're customers.

My home suffered over $200,000 of damages from a so called "PRO" that used Home Advisor to target consumers to defraud. This "PRO" signed a confession, but Home Advisor refuses to acknowledge my letters and phone calls requesting compensation for the damages.
Just learned CEO Chris Terrill cut a deal to purchase Angie's List and walked away with over 100 million dollars and numerous lifetime perks. Shame on you, hope your lear jet crashes on your way to your multi-million dollar estate in Nantucket.

Massively disappointed! I just determine that Home Advisor does not provide a customer the opportunity to write a review for Pro. We see plenty of reviews on pros profile but I believe the Pro gives the customer a link to write the review, otherwise the consumer cannot write a review.

I hired Frank and Johnny Home Improvement (referred to me by Home Advisor), that ripped me off. They charged my up front fee of $800 to start the job, they did a portion of the job and they did not finish the project. That was a week ago and I have not heard from them since.

If Home Advisor is protecting Pros from bad reviews, that absolutely needs to be publically known.

LAWSUIT!
I have never in my life seen such a big name company put on such a big Scam as Home Advisors... I signed up for this leads fairytale and it is the Biggest scam...
They charge my company for every lead ranging from $80-150 that we didn't even
Get a contracts on. I was mislead by their poorly trained, young adults (who was trained also to lie for the company) Then I asked for a supervisor, and she pass the phone to her friend sitting next to her. ABSOLUTELY unexceptable for a well known business.
They should have their business license revoked and BURNED!

Date a women with a vacuum type carpet cleaner, a bucket and a very dirty vacuum.
We were having stairs and 1000 sq feet of carpet cleaned and she comes with a Walmart carpet cleaner!
Please rethink having anyone from Homeadvisor come to clean your carpets.

We have been advertising with them for Over a Year. First, Everything was great and We were Very Happy. Suddenly, Everything Started going Downhill. We got Leads from people Stating that they did not go through with the process, that they had exited before hitting send. Others Stated that yes they were on the Website, and had no idea how HomeAdvisor got their information because they didn't input it. Others Stated that they input their request a week or two prior and they already had it taken care of. Most Customers Did not Respond, Even after leaving Voicemail and sending emails. When we confronted HomeAdvisor, They Stated that They Do not Store Customer Information in their system and that in order for a Lead to go through, they have to press send or submit. And every time I told them about the Many leads that are not panning out, They Would Reverse it and Literally Make Me Feel Like it was Our Fault. I did everything they told me to, and nothing was working. But as Things Kept Getting Worse and Worse, I sat down and made numbers, In One Month, We have Spent over $1,000 in Leads that we did not win and only about $250 in leads that we did. I was shook! I went ahead and confronted them, and again they came out with the same story, trying to pin it on me and trying to make me feel like it was my fault. NOT THIS TIME! And Imagine that other contractors get charged More than that For leads they do not win. And it is ridiculous that HomeAdvisor Advertises themselves as a FREE Service for the Consumer, Do ANy of them sit and think about How HomeAdvisor Makes their Money, Well I just gave you an example. And Most People are Searching on the Internet and Find home advisor, Not even serious or just looking up information. Please Stay Away From HomeAdvisor.

A total scam.
October 14, 2019

As a business owner that used to go with them, I can't recommend staying far away from them enough. They'll send the lead to as many companies as possible, charging each one $50, and then the only one who will get the work is the one that prices it lowest. At least homeadvisor will still manage to make hundreds of dollars though!. Businesses lose their shirts with homeadvisor and forget about getting a refund on all those references, even when it was accidentally put through to the wrong company. I've heard from several others that they had the same problem I did. DO NOT go through them. You'll regret it.
