The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I am Alan L and I wrote the review about HomeAdvisor.
With not a lot to do the last few months I did some investigating into HomeAdvisor and what I found is as follows -
HomeAdvisor owned by a mega corp located in NYC, NY. This Corp ownes several other companies of the same vein as HomeAdvisor. HomeAdvisor in-turn bought a company called Handy to whom they farm out a majority of the "small job" requests. Now they, Handy, seem to be the source of much of the Hate & Discontent among customers. Complaints are made to HomeAdvisor but the disconnect seems to be that the 2 computer systems can't communicate with each other so, for all intents, the customer's complaint falls on the "deaf ears" of the Handy system. Now, after speaking with the Pro I dealt with, He has removed himself from all contact with Handy and only goes thru HomeAdvisor and is now receiving nothing but 5 stars and as such his customers are very happy. I don't know how to complain to Handy as all phone calls are automatically shuttled to HomeAdvisor So you never get to speak with a "Handy" Rep. And, as you can see, a great number of the complaints are coming from the very Pros that are being sent out by Handy, that alone speaks volumes! I don't think I'll ever use HomeAdvisor but, if I do, I will request that the Pro being sent is from them and not Handy. How to actually accomplish that I don't know. Time to get off my soapbox, Have a good day.
Sean Williams (owner) came out gave me an estimate the same day I called. He gave me a great price and came back and did the job the same day. Him and Alex topped my big oak tree in the front of my house. Alex climbs trees like a monkey. They were great guys and do fantastic work. Cut the tree exactly like I wanted it. They do remolding work to. Really great people to do business with. *******970 give them a call, you won't be sorry.
Small business owners beware of HomeAdvisor.
This firm is a scam. The contractor pays for leads that the client either doesn't exist or fails to respond to the return a call. There customer service is a joke, not open during weekends. Try to find a person in corporate to discuss your issues with is almost impossible. The company has been sued because they treat their contractors terribly. The company is owned by the same folks that own Angie's list, so they pass leads to HomeAdvisor that the Angie's list gets first crack at, then they distribute the same lead to 4 different contractors.
I am thinking about finding an attorney or taking them to court locally. They have already lost a class action suit and if there is an attorney that would like to take this on I would be delighted to speak with them.
I used a company named Guice plumbing service through Home advisors service I was under the impression they vetted all their contractors apparently they don't, I made a complaint to home advisors and they recommended me to their arbitration services a company called Fair Claims I was under the impression they could help. I had proved my case with evidence and photos. I was issued a judgement of 300 dallors against Guice Plumbing they had 14 days to pay me on the 14 day I contacted Fair Claims and they said all we can do is tell them they was bad boys we cannot collect. What a waist of time and effort. I now have a toilet that rocks and a goughed sink with large water stains in the bottom of my vanity. Worst part about it was the toilet never really needed to be replaced until they worked on it. I was only getting a jiggly handle fixeed.
Looking for brush piles and wood to be removed from common ground behind my home. If I had a pickup truck and 8 X 12 trailer, I could load in about 2 HR and I'm 65.
Home Advisor send me a 50 year old guy with a work truck with side boxes and a ladder on top with no trailer to pickup my brush. He looked at job and within 15 minutes loaded up his wheelbarrow and chainsaw and left without saying a word. Great experience... not! Home Advisor already charged me for job on my MC. Please don't use this company... how they stayed in business for 20 years is beyond me.
They over bill and ALL the leads AND there is no return on your investment, AT ALL. They make there money off of false leads and bill you for unusable clients. BUSINESS MAN OR WOMAN BEWARE!
Do not hire Pretty Handy Guys Handy Man Services they take your money and leave the job without finishing
This company is a scam, they take your money, $500.00 before you are approved in their system and do not tell you, if you do not cancel with in 72 hours you can not get a refund on any unused money. Here is some good advise and its free, do not call Home Adviser for any reason, and if they call you hang up, fast...
Jeff and his team did our kitchen remodel, he did great work and I'd highly recommend him for any remodeling you are considering
Absolutely unprofessional team and they know nothing about privacy/ business or even sales and buisness development... they nag a lot and ask unnecessary and private questions, repeat these questions over and over again and at the end of the call they just hang up the phone even if the call is not finished
I dont know why a company like this could stay in business they give fake leads then charge you when you dont even respond to them if any lawyers are reading this there should be a class action lawsuit against them
Home advisor is awful for anyone who is not very successful already as they will completely drain hour bank account on bogus leads. Horrible company how is this legal?
I placed an order to have my overhead garage storage installed. Allen shows up with a tool bag to install overhead garage storage, without the proper tools. He asks to borrow my ladder, open the boxes in the garage walks off and never returns. I didn't find out he'd left until I checked on him an hour later. No one answers the phones and all they do is email you with poor responses and service. DO NO USE THIS SERVICE!
I tried to hire a repair person through Homeadvisor. They are a scam. They immediately took my money for the price fixed repair, but NEVER actually arranged a repair person. They have told about a dozen lies in the last week to perpetuate their scam. Bottom line, this company is a scam, you should STAY AWAY from them!
HOME ADVISOR WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY WITH A SMILE ON THEIR FACE, HIGH FIVE'N EACH OTHER WHEN THEY GET ANOTHER SUCKER TO SIGN UP.
EACH AND EVERY LEAD THEY GIVE YOU WHICH COULD BE 10 A DAY THEY CHARGE YOU FOR IT EVEN IF ITS 3 HOURS AWAY OR IF THE PERSON ALREADY HAS A CONTRACTOR. THEY JUST KEEP SENDING. THEY WILL SCAM YOU OUT OF EVERY DIME IN YOUR ACCOUNT.
BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE HOME ADVISOR WILL CLEAN YOU OUT WITH A SMILE AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT S REFUND IS. FORGEIGN WORD TO THEM. TO CLOSE YOUR ACCT YOU HAVE TO FIRST BEND OVER, GET ANOTHER REAM'IN B4 THEY WILL CLOSE YOUR ACCT.
HOME ADVISOR NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN FOR SHADY PRACTICES!
SCAM, SCAMMERS, SCAMMING
Home Advisor has called my business line several times. I was actually thinking about signing up but my husband said he wasn't interested. So today I recurved a call and I told the guy that we were not interested. This guy refused to take not for an answer and got upset because I refused their services. After respectfully telling him several times that we were not interested. I had to hang up on him. Big red flag right there! Who gets upset because you don't want to use their services. Now I get calls from unknown numbers that hang up when I answer. These people are crazy and something needs to be done about them.
Carlos piere, of c Pires garage door repair
He took a check from me and then said it bounced and charged me 35.00 dollars for a 50.00 dollar check and gave me the check back I can prove it was never deposited and sent me a lot text messages how he should have charged me more HE IS A POOR REP FOR HOME ADVISOR FONT USE HIM
I purchased a house, new construction. #1 on my list of dominoes was to have the garage floor finished with epoxy. Due to circumstances beyond my control, rain, possibly leakage from on demand water heater in the garage, the floor was too damp to prep and coat, so the contractor that I was working with has agreed to see if there is a better time later.
On a whim, since I had a couple of down-days (not working at part-time job), I submitted a request to HomeAdvisor to see if there was someone who could do it sooner. Not only did they tell me they found an expert, they charged me for 4 hours of work. Apparently it's a subsidiary named Handy.
The description was to smooth the concrete, acid etch it, and apply the epoxy I had already purchased.
Since they never told me who the contractor was, I could not discuss the work so I sent several emails describing the work to ensure the contractor would be prepared.
So what happens? Some bozo shows up in a car with no equipment, proceeds to tell me that he has never worked with epoxy and he cannot do the job and leaves!
I went more ballistic than I have ever gone in my life, on the phone with HomeAdvisor, demanding they refund my money, fire that a**hole, and letting them know I will NEVER deal with HomeAdvisor again. I give a company ONE chance, and this was the WORST contractor experience I've ever had. Homeowner beware, I wouldn't trust HomeAdvisor for ANYTHING EVER AGAIN. From now on I will deal with reputable, reviewed, local contractors that have been vetted and have good reviews. My bad for thinking there might be a quick way to get the job done.
In my opinion Home Advisor is a scam, they promise ANYTHING to get you to sign up with them and take your money for mostly BS leads. They send each lead out to as many "pro's" as they can to bill for each one. The customers are bombarded with calls and are so furious they hang up, it also shows up on their caller ID as scam
In a lot of cases so they are not likely to answer anyway. They WILL NOT refund your money once they take it from your account even after promising that you won't be billed for leads you do not want.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
