The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Home Advisor only screens "contractors"by a background checks, any felonies of future contractors. They do not evaluate, grade or check a contractors work performance or quality of work before they recommend to you. I have lost $1,400.00 on bad workmanship from contractors recommended by Home Advisor. Do not use unless you know for sure workmanship of contractor. Home Advisor is a marketing company only.
Artie Belcastro's company: Reunited Home Improvement, is excellent.
They did a phenomenal job on our bathroom remodel. They were professional and personable.
You can not go wrong with them. I highly recommend them.
They contacted my boyfriend to "help" build his business. You have to pay up front for your subscription then for any leads. He told him that he wasn't interested. He went on and on still then proceeded to tell him well good luck on Craigslist!
After weeks of arm twisting and 'preview leads', the rep never told me they would charge me $285 just to sign up. In my experience with their predecessor (Service Magic), the leads they offered, and charged me for were not serious. The leads had no 'skin in the game' and were a waste of time. Home Advisor (HA) says I would get 1 out of 4 leads as paying customers. HA charges me an undetermined fee for each lead. To be profitable I would have to add their fee from the other 3 'leads' to my quote to the 4th 'lead/customer', effectively charging them for all the other bogus leads.
All this works well for the 'lead' and HA, but not for the tradespeople or professionals.
I posted a project on HomeAdvisor for the repair of my carport corner brick support and repair of the carport slab. I had a quick response and I set up work to start 4 days later. They showed up on time and started immediately on the project. It did not take me long to realize that these two workers had never laid a brick in their life. They also did not have the proper equipment to break up my concrete slab. They worked 6 to 8 hours using a sledgehammer and were able to chip off enough of the slab to pour a 2-inch topping. They could not pour a smooth concrete topping. They didn't even have a level to set brickwork. After 2 feet of the brickwork, the column was 3 inches out of plumb. A 5 year old kid could have done better. I will never use HomeAdvisor again. I got them to use a string for guidance but it didn't help them. I will say they were extremely hard workers and worked almost till midnight in the pouring rain. They simply had never done any concrete or brickwork in their entire life.
They even did not know how to use a caulk gun! I would give them less than one star but not an option.
I find out 2 days after writing this review and having paid the contractor for the work HomeAdvisor has charged my credit card $1,200. That's the estimate that the web site estimated that this project would cost. Nowhere on their web site did they indicate they would change my credit card for this amount. I sent over an hour talking to HomeAdvisor on phone trying to get the charge removed with no luck. They said I should not have paid the contractor for the work. I have contacted my bank to stop the charge but I see this is going to be a challenge.
If you don't put your credit card there they will not give you an estimate. They SHOULD tell you on web site that this is NOT an estimate but an IMMEDIATE charge to your credit card. If nobody shows up to do any work you WILL STILL BE CHARGED. I told Home advisor the person who did the work was the same one they sent me a photo of before he came and he completed the work so I paid him for the amount of his REAL estimate. Now they won't credit my credit card.
I used HomeAdvisor fixed pricing service for an interior painting job. Vendor was supposed to show up at 8am. I spoke with him at 8am and he said he was at Home Depot picking up supplies and then he canceled. No excuse... just decided not to come. This shows HomeAdvisor cannot be trusted to choose reliable vendors. Watch out.
I booked a job to have a 45-foot tree removed from my back yard and Home Advisor's Fixed Pricing division sent a single individual, no wood chipper, on a rainy day, so job was not done. I subsequently called back two times, to re-book with an appropriate, multi-individual group, or to have my charged credit card credited back; they failed to handle this via either call, and they just disconnected a call... No call back from them, so sharing to warn others. I will be processing a chargeback against them.
We hired a drywall/painting company to knockdown our ceilings and paint the interior of our home. They were to start with sections of the house, working from the garage, through back laundry room, kitchen lihing and dining area to the back area of our home. Instead, they jumped from room to room leaving out home a disaster. We have been living in a dusty filthy home now for a month! We told the owner when we first interviewed him for our job, that our schedules were tight but that we would be able to be on vacation in match6and if they would like we could wait. To this they replied jo that is fine we can work around it. So, they attempt to then used it as an excuse to why they could not finish in a timely manner. We then were able to open up our availability even having friends come while we were unable to be home. We gave them ample days to complete this job! Here it is now a month into it. We are having to ask everyday if we will be expecting them. We are under their time schedule and feel our job has now become a bother. The job itself is awful as well! There are drippings duwn the walls all over the house. The nails were never patched and sanded! I could go on and on I am so angry and will never use this comoany or home advisor again!
I'm a painting contractor for a little over 30 years of experience. I'm in between of having a new website developed for finding new clients. I was called by HomeAdvisor and asked if I wanted to try out their program of finding leads. Long story short, They are soo bad in finding leads, I was mislead of how they give you leads, and I have spent to this point about $500.00 with not one lead that I was able to talk to but charged for all of them. In other words, "I was ripped off"
I talked to John with Broker Post Ground Crew about doing my leaf removal for a second year... This was 1 Mar 2020, he set a appointment to do the work on 13 Mar 2020. It rained so of course he rescheduled the job for 18 Mar 2020. 18 Mar 2020 the weather was perfect but John was a no show and when I contacted him JOHN stated that his leaf truck transmission went bad and he we be here soon as possible. This is the 24th of March 2020 and I emailed John again and still no John and no reply. This is not the way the owner should run any business. Broker Post Ground Crew was great last year but this year they sucked. They must have really gone down hill and do not know how to schedule work. This is a easy 4 hour job at the most and they screwed the pooch here and myself. I do not know what happened to John and Broker Post Ground Crew but I would no longer recommend any company that can not do a simple 4 hour job in one month. Tom in Bridgeville De
I had three call offs for just an HDMI cable repair until I finally had to get a refund they even messed that up. They refunded the wrong amount I would stay away.
Where do I begin. We just had our one acre property cleaned, top soil, seeding, fertilizing and plantings done by John and Jeff of John Conservo Landscaping Company. The work they do is thorough, meticulous, focused on providing us with what we want and need and at the same time considering our budget. They offer options and cost comparisons to help keep costs down. They even go the extra mile taking care of little things which were not discussed to help improve the look of your property. When they are done, you don't even know they were there except for the beautiful work that they do. I give them 10 Stars out of 5. You will find no company better than John Conservo Landscaping.
I am giving a review about Homeadvisor because of their outrageous fees and incessant calls after I terminated my contract. I lasted a day and half with $284 leads fees before I had a chance to review the lead, let alone contact thoses leads.
As a former contractor listed on Homeadvisor, the vetting process is a joke. The fees, as stated, are outrageous high. I wrote off $952 in Homeadvisor's expenses for one small $1800 project.
My advise, never get involved with Homeadvisor from a contractor point of view, nor as a client for their lack of background checks.
I just wanted an estimate and the first guy that called me got charged $48 even though I didn't use him. This seems unfair and a real rip off
Years ago, I used Home Advisor looking for a contractor. What I dislike about the website is I had to enter my information first then my phone rang off the hook. I did it the first time because I really needed a roofer. How does this site work anyway? I'm looking for a reputable contractor but don't want to enter my information, Do the businesses have to pay if you use their services?
Scheduled a Tree Trimming Service they charged my Credit Card and never received the Service they rescheduled Appointment 3 times and still waiting! Filing a Complaint with Better Business Bureau wish I could give them 0 stars but one star was the lowest.
I used their service to clean my room. I was hospitalized for a month and need help in cleaning my room. My wallet which contain about $530 was in my room. After the cleaner left, $100 was missing from my wallet. I am sure about the amount because before coming home, I deposited my Wallet in Hospital and they have record of all my notes.
Never trust Home Advisor
They are scam artist to contractors. They send expensive leads that has no descriptions of the job to be done, no homeowners name neither address or phone number that works, and when I ask for lead credit the excuse is always the same. They think that we have money to spare to trough out the window with fake leads. Contractors and homeowners stay away from them.
These guys were fantastic, professional, and completely aware to please their customers. Their work was professionally accomplished pleasing my wife which pleased me. Our job was a complicated job and they accomplished it. Highly recommend these guys.
We had leads where the phone was invalid, ad we were treated horrible by Irena from the customer care department. She was so rude and patronizing. Why choose a career in customer service if you hate it that much? We were spending almost $2000 a month, now its $100 just to keep showing up in Google. And we switched back to Google Ads. Much better
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
