The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

A company called 24 Hour Service installed a Bream hot water heater at my home on 2/26/2020. It stopped working approximately 2 weeks later. This was at a cost of over $1300. 00. After numerous calls and no response, today they said they could not come out due to the Coronavirus. Funny that other plumbers in the area will come out but of course at a charge. Isn't plumbing an essential service? Next call is Rheam direct and BBB. I noticed HomeAdvisor doesn't have great rating either.
More then half of the leads I have received were not actual leads almost all of them were not asking for any type of service, wrong contact info or even people asking if we were hiring. I have not only paid for the membership but has also cost me 300.00 everyweek because of these fake leads. I really advise people not to trust in home advisor helping grow your buisness. All it is is a very expensive extra bill.
I am a home contractor and have been a member of Home Advisor off and on for the past 5 years. I quit the service twice due to broken promises of giving credit for bogus leads. The 3rd time i rejoined, I was promised by David, Salesman for Home advisor, that the bogus leads would be handled by him if there was any trouble with me getting credit, Well, that was incorrect. Secondly, I told David I would rejoin HA if I can pay as I go, (DO NOT SEND ME A BILL). He stated that would never happen. I was doing fine for 6t months then I receive a bogus bill for $950.00. Of course I could not get back in touch with David he will not return my phone calls. Then another rep called my from HA and wanted me to pay half of the bogus bill. Contractors beware this is a bait and switch they promise you one thing then do another.
We are a reputable architectural office and thought we try out HA, but we should have googled them before we did. A simple web search reveals that they don't work ethically. Our mistake, won't happen again.
HA charges contractors and service businesses for useless, non-compliant or old leads but does not compensate for their mistakes. Example: A project we were charged for $94.25 was supposedly a "Complete remodel (with or without addition)" and turned out to be a single room drawing the client needed. The client was not fluent in English and my email to him after the call went unanswered. My request for credit from HA based on wrong information was turned down by HA.
Multiple and different independent sources online report similar issues.
And then I found this. A Class Action Suit against HA: https://chimicles.com/in-re-homeadvisor-inc-litig-case-no-116-cv-*******-pab-klm-d-colo/
The suit alleges the following:
Maintaining and employing systemically flawed and deficient processes to generate leads;
Charging Home Service Professionals for leads that were not from project-ready homeowners, were not verified and were bogus;
Using heavy-handed and coercive means to solicit new Home Service Professionals for Membership Programs;
Concealing and omitting material information about substantial monthly fees for mHelpDesk;
Blatantly disregarding Home Service Professionals' lead parameters and budgets;
Distributing the same lead to more than four Home Service Professionals;
Adopting uniform internal procedures intended to deny and discourage refunds and/or lead credits; and,
Exploiting terminated Home Service Professionals by maintaining their online profiles in order to shamelessly generate and pilfer Leads for its current network of HSPs.
Do your own web search and also look into the HA staff reviews on review places like Glassdoor, com.
It sounds like a call center business with high sales pressure. Don't sign up until you have done this research!
If you still want to try HA, be ready to cancel your credit card after you did because you might get charged even after trying to cancel your account with HA!
Good luck!
Marva is very through and does excellent work. She goes the extra step. I would recommend her.

Really horrible company

I was with HomeAdvisor for 10 years. In the past, I used to receive some decent work through the site. Over the last couple of years however, I would receive more and more unqualified leads. Even with "EXACT MATCH" leads, I would find that the lead was sold to so many other contractors, that the people hardly wanted to answer their phone because they would be inundated with calls. QUITTING HOMEADVISOR is a monumental task. They try to turn your leads on all the time when you don't want them and charge for the crap. I finally made a clean break. I would not do business with them at this point.
Home advisor. Charged me when my leads were off. They did the same thing last years gave me a free years sign up. This years they did the same. I have email proving my leads were off. They kept sending me leads and we all know how home advisor sends out B. S. leads so I always have mine turned off. They sent it to a collection agency mean while calling me to offer me another free years sign up. This is a scam company who changes there name who are also called Angie's list and they changed it previously before that. They send fake leads all the time. Warning to anyone who goes with this Company
From start to finish, the estimate, price, clean-up, & service was excellent. I would highly recommend Oak Tree Services.

The company Home Advisor Pro and their representative are con artists! Be aware (Warning) it doesn't matter if you respond to a lead job or not, YOU WILL BE CHARGED. Who has time throughout the day to constantly check their Home Advisor Pro app to make sure that you're not being overcharged for lead jobs throughout the day. Also be aware of them just throwing any job at you, my company is into Demolition and they kept sending my Home Advisor App lead jobs that had to do with trash removal! My advise go somewhere else that really care about their customer!
Any place but Home Advisor Pro!

We had an estimate done on our raised brick ranch for siding, the couple that came only said they were from home advisor. No other business name was given. The couple took pictures never measured said they would email the estimate whiich still has not come. He provided no information, although my husband did not ask. He felt the person should have measured or explained how he was doing so with his phone. We will not be using this company for our ptoject.
They won't refund money on leads who's area i don't want to service. They make it a hassle to remove areas, you have to chat and or call in to do that. I'm not gonna spend 30+ minutes removing 100+ zipcodes from LA.
They won't credit your $30-$80 per lead when they're in an area you don't want to server.
This service is a joke
There customer service does very little to help their pros. All they care about is there money! You would think a company ranked at the bottom of peoples satisfaction list would do something about it, but the issue that they will not do anything and just bill you for not doing their jobs.
I asked for a company to make a patio. What I received was a beautiful patio with stone pavers. The company was 7th State Builders. They did such a great job on the patio that I had them do three sidewalks. Fantastic work. I talked with Chase, the owner of the company, about getting something done to make my above ground pool look more appealing. With his ideas and suggestions. And my input, he designed a beautiful deck with a Pergola in the center
My deck is 32' x 10'. I love it. Thy just completed work on the fascia board trim around my House and also added soffits. Fantastic job. They will install gutters tomorrow. Our next project is a privacy wall to
The pool. A room addition will follow in the schedule. The quality of work is unbelievable. It is the best work we have ever had done to our home. And our home is 120 years old so there has been work done over the years. The crews are polite and cleanup after every job. Chase has hired the best people for his crews. I will recommend him anytime for
Any job. Thanks Chase and Crews
This is a really bad company! I was with them for just 2 weeks (03/19/2020-04/02/2020) and quickly found out that all of the leads I received from them were wrong! The first lead was mislabeled, the second lead was bogus (not a legitimate call back number), the third lead was fake. I feel bad writing bad reviews, but WOW! This is robbery. I do not recommend HomeAdvisor to anyone, contractor or homeowner. See attached photo of a "lead" that I got. Stinking outrageous!
As a contractor that has used them for years I will be leaving this site. They are predatory towards homeowners and contractors alike. They customer service at the supervisory level is beyond infuriating. Turning the blame and issues onto the contractors. Unwanted leads coming in that we are charged for. After reaching out to them to get credit on a few leads because my company has shut down due to covid 19, I was told it was too bad and that I still had to pay for them. This was the last straw for me. The complete lack of empathy and concern for public health is astonishing and repulsive.
Mike's crew was on time and they were very professional. They did an awesome job on my property. I would highly recommend them to any new client that reads this review. I would welcome him back any time.

If you are ready to ' move forward ' on a project within your home, source a vendor yourself. Ask friends for recommendations, they are usually the best. I was ready to have a retaining wall installed weeks ago and today had to cancel my ' Home Advisor ' account due to the fact vendors ( only 2 were recommended) were quoting too high or they were a
No show' from a scheduled appointment. From the beginning of this process to today was February 25th 2020. If you do your ' homework' educating yourself from the wealth of information on the internet you can save yourself a lot of time and aggravation. My advice, source a locally family owned and operated business.
First appt came so late it got dark so couldn't look. Next appt called said 30 minutes, didn't show up at all.
Home Advisor only screens "contractors"by a background checks, any felonies of future contractors. They do not evaluate, grade or check a contractors work performance or quality of work before they recommend to you. I have lost $1,400.00 on bad workmanship from contractors recommended by Home Advisor. Do not use unless you know for sure workmanship of contractor. Home Advisor is a marketing company only.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
