I went through Home Advisor for an irrigation pump replacement. They have a company with good ratings so I hired them. The company DID NOT HAVE ANY LICENSING requirements. This cost me $938 that I paid an unreputable company to replace my irrigation pump.

Will never deal with home advisor again

I am a 90 year old woman who, until this year, have always done my own yard work. This year my walking has become so limited I felt I needed help with spring cleanup of my yard. I contacted Home Advisor hoping to get several possibilities for me to contact. All communication is on line. I was contacted on line with the request that I choose an "appointment time". I assumed this was an appointment to come to my home to see what I needed done and if I wanted to proceed with some very simple leaf blowing for part of my yard. The charge would be $124.48. I chose a time, but later decided to try to find a cheaper bid. I emailed Home Advisor to cancel. Today my bank statement reveals I was already charged. I contacted H. A. for a refund and was told it would be refunded in 3 to 5 days. Strange that the charge could go through in minutes but the refund would take several days. Terrible way to do business!

I'm a home inspector. Been a member for over 15 years! When they were named service magic, they were excellent. A name change only I was told to Home advisor and ever since, VERY POOR BUSINESS... Prices went for lead from $12 to $38. Leads went from being good to $#*!, sorry for saying $#*!... But for the most, they are. Use to be able to get credit and now, You have to fight, fight, fight for credit and then, good luck. What broke my back was this... With covid-19, I ask for help with no business coming in. I ask them to take just $500 out of my account and wait just two weeks to take the rest $500. Rep told me, ok... Friday they took $500 and then Saturday, they took the rest. I called and they said they would fix... DID NOT... You cant trust a word they say... SO SAD... if someone is reading this... can you show me or tell me another company that I can use and LEAVE HOME ADVISOR... I gave them FIVE years to change and they are just getting worst... Yes, My name is Bill kimble, My business is Turn Key home inspection and Im not afraid to tell you who I am... I am so tired of Home advisorand would never recommend them. NEVER!

These leeches will find any reason to charge you for something that you didn't want anyway. 6 years i been a member? Next year I won't be a member these pieces of shiit don't ever do anything for you and I don't to be associated with such poor customer service. I've never felt like they were working for me. They charge you over $40 sometimes for a lead almost 50, and then give that info to four or five other of your competitors. By the time you get to call them, last thing the customer wants to hear is somebody else calling about whatever problems they have pertaining to their inquiry. Truly a selfish group. Home Advisor sounds great until you point out the flaws in their system.

In short, a contractor pays per lead. The same lead gets submitted to multiple contractors and you pay whether the customer calls you back or not. HomeAdvisor doesn't necessarily approve credits for misdirected leads. So it is often that a handyman pays for leads which should have went to a licensed plumber, electrician or general contractor.

Home Advisor told me not to worry about the lead fees, but to consider the ROI for my overall participation. I did just that and found that Home Advisor fees accounted for 49% of the gross revenue generated through their program.

I wish home advisor checked their clients as ones like "all superior" are worthless. They offered a bid that was extremely high compared to others received. It would seem that this firm was not interested in doing a small job as the weather had obviously done damage in the area and they wanted only the big ones. I would have acceped a " no bid" as a proper response to my issue. Why are your, home advisor, so low. Don't you care?

I feel like I probably should have known better, then using a third party app again but was getting a good price.

I used them to have someone come in and deep clean the house we just bought (the previous owners had a lot of pets) and it just needed a good deep clean. Since we've been doing the move by ourselves and still had our previous home to pack and clean. I decided to hire a maid service to come in and do the cleaning for the new home...

I'm not going to lie I was SO excited to have the job off of our to do list!

So the day comes and the cleaner never shows up and never calls. I have to contact home advisor which was a complete hassle...

And finally they tell me the cleaner called them and said he felt unsafe and uncomfortable coming to the house because of all the flags in the area...

Flags?
I had no clue what they were talking about... we have no flags... my neighbors have a few american flags? Like you are afraid of American flags?

I was super upset. Because we were planning on moving in the next day and I wouldn't have time to clean the house before hand. But they kept asking if they could send someone on the 15th (today), that was the soonest they could get someone else. So against my better judgment again I let them set me up an appointment with a different cleaner.

I had to completely reschedule and push back my move to accommodate the new cleaning.

So today, waiting on the cleaner to come. AGAIN a no call no show...
Home advisor refunded me my money (that of course could take 5+ days to get to me)
But that doesn't help the fact that I now have to try and finish everything at previous house and try to clean new house before move tomorrow.

I know there are worse things in the world right now. Just so frustrating

Please dont use this service. Any "home owner" can call you because signing up is FREE. Most "home owners" just want an idea of the price and no real interest in getting the job done. And when its not a real home owner its another company trying to steal YOUR prices. Why am i paying just for someone else to benefit off me? And i dont even want to mention how many scam phone calls i get. They will charge your accounts for leads that you have not accepted yourself, then say they can not refund it to your bank account because "its not in their policy". Please dont waste your time and money on these people.
