The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I am a contractor and they just will not leave me alone I know this company is a scam and any home owner with the ability to connect with Home Advisor can find local contractors on their own. I tell them I am not interested and stop calling me they stop for a month or two then start up again. They bombard my email with so called potential leads people who are looking for the Cheapest contractor regardless of ability I am not that contractor.
So contractors and trades stay away from this scam.
After about 3 wks. Nothing resolved. Hired someone they recommended which now I taking them to small claims. Stay away from home advisors.
Disgraceful criminals... I am a college student running a small eco-friendly landscaping business. HomeAdvisor reached out and scammed me into a "free" year of leads. "Leads" are homeowners looking to hire your type of work. A little about these leads... they send them to competitors all over your area, they aren't filtered or pre-screened, mostly elderly people just looking for prices, HomeAdvisor charges YOU an insane amount (like $40 for a leaf removal job) just to get the clients information!
I called a lead and scheduled a consultation, then 30 mins before the consultation he cancelled and said he was going to blow the leaves into his sewer. I called HomeAdvisor for a refund... THEY DONT REFUND.
HomeAdvisor is a disgrace to this country and humanity as a whole. They charge your credit card every time they send you a random lead, and these leads are terrible dead-end jobs that you can't have refunded.
Please please please, do not waste your hard earned money on HomeAdvisor. Ask your friends for reviews, or just call the companies individually. They belong in jail for their actions.
Never, and I mean never should you do business with the sam of an outfit. Absolutely miserable experience.
Home advisors is nothing but a great big huge scam! We needed emergency repair on our roof after wind damage. I called HomeAdvisor I'm booked what I thought was a professional. Professional? Yeah right! The guy showed up a half hour late, no truck, no equipment, not even a ladder!
After looking at the roof now the guy had to go to Home Depot to purchase all of the material which of course we have to pay for, and to boot, he's asking me to pay him $500 more. Do not ever call HomeAdvisor! Be sure that you are calling a professional. HomeAdvisor absolutely does not send out professional's but rather amateur handy people.
Put in request for cooktop installation and received several calls from installers. Made an appointment with Doug's Appliances in Gastonia NC. He never showed up or called to cancel. Tried to contact Homeadvisor via phone and was put on indefinite hold. I willl never bother to use Homeadvisor again.
Please understand you will get leads but at a greatly increased cost. The leads often don't answer, your one of 3 calling, or they never used home advisor and it's a lead from elsewhere. I had a 126 exclusive lead, no answer. Same day a 100 exclusive lead had another painter and a 45 market lead no answer. The same day. Several days prior I had another run of 3 bad leads. Totaling 550.00 I got 1 credit for a 100. And I still didn't have a appointment.
My company (family owned and stands behind its work) has tried out Home Advisor for leads from time to time over the past several years. The overwhelming number of leads are not real -- no answer, no callback, often no opportunity to leave a message. Raises serious questions, since you would think that a consumer with a problem would be interested in getting free estimates. The billing to credit card policies are opaque. You end up getting billed hundreds and thousands of dollars for emailed leads, for supposed "exact match" leads and for God knows what. Absolutely the worst.
Kenny, did a excellent job on my front door the man is very professional and let it looking like new i would tell everyone to use his business and knowlegable.
Thanks,
Michael Mowers
Our home pro was excellent! We needed 10 overgrown shrubs removed. He arrived on time, was very nice, got right to work and cleaned up! I would definitely use them again and would highly recommend Peter K for removal, trimming or landscaping jobs!
We have used this company several times over the years, and also both of our parents have used them. We recently had an issue where our furnace quit heating. We discussed several options with Tom Shannon. He was very conscious of social separation and came with a mask which was very appreciated. We chose one option, which caused them to order a new motor. The next day, we changed our mind to go with a new unit. They said no problem, they would send the motor back. The installers, Shawn and Curtis were very respectful and polite. At some point when they were working on our furnace, they noticed when the hot water tank kicked in, the exhaust was coming into the basement. They investigated further, even though it was not part of what they needed to do. They cleaned out the exhaust area and found baby racoons. Then they went up on the roof to see what the option were to resolve this. The story gets longer from here, but they went above and beyond the call of duty simply because it was the right thing to do. It is at least the 5th time we or our family has use this service, and it keeps getting better each time. Thanks to Tom, Shawn and Curtis for a job well done!
Charged in advanced. Reschedules and then never showed to reschedule. Wait on my refund and wasted a week for my pool cleaning

The worst company in the world. One day I received the call and they informed me that I had to pay $ 300 for the membership and that they were going to help me get clients. They never told me that they will charge you for each person that enters your page, that is, you still do not make a sale just for them, they give you a phone number and they charge you a fee. The ironical thing is that those people never counted the phone and canceled my 20 hr membership after opening an account. I'm still waiting for my refund. They say they deposited the money into an account that was closed. THIEVES.
Contracted Home Advisor to arrange for gutter cleaning of the whole house. They arranged a company to do the job. The man came out and did a great job on half the house. I paid for the whole house. I contacted Home advisor and they confirmed it should have been the whole house. So instead of sending the man back out to finish the job they stated they would give me a $100 credit towards another job. I told them I do not want a credit I just want the job done that I paid for have not heard back since.
I already got a lawn-moving quote for $75 on my own several days before I contacted HomeAdvisor looking for additional quotes. I clicked the button which said I wanted to negotiate my own prices. Regardless they said they found a company willing to do the job for $22. Bull! Within minutes I got called by two local specialists. I found out they pay $29 per lead to HomeAdvisor. No wonder they called so fast. This is working great, I thought. But I also got several emails touting first $10, and then $15 off a quote. I was annoyed since I said I wanted to negotiate on my own.
Then I got a call from a HomeAdvisor worker promising to call around and get the best price. Frustrated, I asked, "Who pays you?" She said HomeAdvisor. I said, "No, I mean who pays HomeAdvisor?" Pause. I said, "The companies?" She said yes. Fine, I said, go ahead. Pause. She came back with $132. With the $15 discount that's still more than I negotiated on my own. And clearly the $22 was a bait and switch scheme. I hung up and unsubscribed from their email. The next day I got more spam offering $15 off. Companies say an unsubscribe order takes a few days, but are lying. It got set up in seconds, and could be stopped in seconds. I blocked their emails and vowed to only use them to get names and ratings and then Google the companies to get their real phone numbers and negotiated directly. That way my local companies don't have to tack on a surcharge to pay for the lead. I started doing this when I negotiated a price with a tree company and then did an online mass request via a company similar to HomeAdvisor. The same tree company I already had a price for got dinged for a surcharge and complained to me. I should have remembered that. Avoid these spam-happy con artists and negotiate on your own.
I called to have a ceiling repaired that was water damaged. I sent photos and made an appointment. I also paid in advance for the labor.
The contractor showed up and asked where the material for the job was. I told him that I did not know what he was talking about. How would I know what parts/materials are needed? He also was unprepared to go and buy the material as he was driving a personal car.
I called customer service and they said that the best they could do was offer me a 50% refund seeing as the contractor was already on site.
I am not ignorant, I know that the parts needed would be extra. How in the world do they expect a consumer to know what to buy and have it onsite and ready for the appointment.
Home advisor sends leads and even though you may call them instantly the would be potential customer already had a company take care of it before you even receive the lead. You still have to pay for the lead. Other times they also give out prices without ever visiting the customers home. So the potential customer already has an unrealistic price in mind diminishing your chances of selling an already bottom priced job.
This company is awful to deal with. They lie, overcharge and should be out of business. They do not care about Pros at all, and for the consumer end I will NEVER use them again and tell people that all the time now. They are one of the worst companies ever and should go out of business! They charge fake fees and are just terrible!
This company is horrible for contractors. They charge for leads you don't accept. 99% of "leads" are cheap people looking for handyman or just price shopping. A complete waste of time for contractors. They even offer to "BOOST" your rating artificially. So they don't just lie to contractors but they misrepresent ratings to potential customers. Just another Scam. ADAM CAROLLA must be getting a lot of $$ to have his name associated with this sham company. K O
They have charged my account without my consent and even with my account on hold. They claim they cannot reimburse my money. As a business during this pandemic, I am so disappointed. Not only is the country shut down but they could care less are taking my money and had the audacity to tell me to get out there and risk my and others lives to perform my office cleaning business. We just started and I am not equipped for disinfecting. Best advice... remove your card number so they can no longer keep stealing from you.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
