The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

For over 12 years or more I have been loyal homeadvisor client. Thousands of dollars wasted on bad leads, bad phone numbers, bad customer service to resolve the issues. I am a 5 star company that takes pride in reviews and making all my clients happy even if i have do the work for free, I gave homeadvisor many oppurtunities to correct problems and did tracking of thier leads to a higher level only to be dissappointed in the outcome. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and stayed with them for years and the best thing homeadvisor is good at is taking your money.
The Sales Pitch is wonderful... Execution is poor at best... They say they will credit BAD leads... Make sure you get BAD defined... there definition of a BAD lead does not equate to a Business Owners definition. Cost me over $500 in one month without a Lead! This was my experience... $500 can get you plenty of leads with other marketing options. My advise STAY AWAY!
For the first few days they will promise you the world. After that your on your own and the leads we are receiving are never quality, if they even ever call us back. Also receiving credit is difficult. My original contact person, which said it was the greatest since sliced bread, and he would could reach him any time. Well 3 months in I can't reach him or anyone else.
Home advisor sounds good at first until you sign up with them! They send you leads, you get excited, then boom no one ever answers, the number is disconnected, or its the wrong number. We believe that more than half of these leads are fake. Weve had one good lead out of like 12. Not to mention our account is charged EVERY time they send a lead before you even talk to the customer. I do not think we should be charged before even finding out if its an accurate number and a real person! This is not how you do business. HomeAdvisor should get paid once we get paid. Not the other way around! Then when you request a credit because you cant get a response or a call back from customer they dont even want to refund you back your money! Even after youve paid a $300 membership fee! This company will scam you! The sales rep will trick you into signing and not tell you about all the hidden fees! We were also told our leads would not be anymore than $50.00! Weve received leads that were over $70.00! They need to learn how to properly run a business. We do NOT recommend this place. The only reason it has a one star is because we might get a job out of the 12 weve been sent. If you are trying to grow your business this is NOT the place to go. They will take your money in advance!
I am a general contractor with kitchen and bathroom remodels as my primary business. The leads generated by home advisor, which the contractor pays for, are, for the most part, just fishing expeditions by homeowners wanting to know "about what" a project might cost. They have no specifics, direction or budget, making it impossible to bid. The leads are very expensive and are virtually worthless. Contractors... BEWARE!

I had scheduled a repair with PJ Fitzpatrick company for a minor siding repair. They showed up and looked at the work (reinstalling one 3 foot piece of vinyl siding on the side of my house) and the first pass at a bid was $256. When I asked what that entailed since the bid was just one number, I was told a couple of nails and maybe a half hours work. When I said that seems really high, he immediately dropped the bid to $201 or a 20% reduction. Now, he is still making money on that bid but was willing to rape me if I didn't question the cost. This is a really slimy way of doing business and I could not recommend them to anyone.

Scam artist! Do not use HomeAdvisor! If you are a professional contractor. Be prepared to spend more money than you will ever make. Be prepared to receive leads that are fake. Be prepared to pay for leads that you never have an opportunity to talk with!
This is the most unprofessional company I have ever encountered in my life! Fair warning all contractors run away DO NOT! Use HomeAdvisor. They do not even deserve one star.

I used their service twice. Both companies were terrible companies which provided very bad service and did business in dishonest fashion(agreed to provide service at a quote price then intentionally just did half of the work, then lied about the service content and refused to provide the missing part). I had provided feedback to these two companies and after one year these reviews are just in "pending review" state.
This site is a con site which uses their fake review to attract customers into those con companies, which provide terrible and dishonest service, a scam assembly line.
This company refuses to take me off the call list - years later. How many estimates would a customer get if they had to pay? I have a successful business of 27 years and lots of marketing experience and I do tree trimming and removal. We own cranes, bucket trucks, dump trucks, chippers, stump grinders, log trucks and cars and pickups plus the parking area which is rented. I employ 7 people and have duplicates of all the afore mentioned equipment. New replacement cost is over $2 million however this stuff is valued at about $700 k. With that being said I'm not showing up in a van or service or pickup truck to do the work but with real and expensive equipment. The notion of a free estimate for the customer is costly for owners and then to pay a service for leads from adwords they buy and 10 guys call the clients for a " free estimate " is insane. If 5 contractors show up how much " free time " does the client get? At least 2.5 man hours if not double. What if the job is small say $300.- and each pays $25.- per lead? Just register and claim your business online, utilize public review sites and all of the free listings including the 3 major search engines. Then buy adwords as needed and done. No need for HA and the links go to you not their site. For what they charge to sign up you can have a website made, hosted and listed and the free listings completed. If you decide to use them get ready to cancel your credit card.
I started interviewing contractor companies in July for an October start date. The
Person we saw was not honest with project start/finish time line OR quote. The price went up each time he came over. One week before our target start date, I tried to finalize price & contract. He asked me why I was in "panic mode". When he finally submitted our plans to his draftsman, I asked when it would be finished, he said "You'll be the first to know". I began interviewing contractors who replied in 2-3 days with realistic project time line & cost. Maybe others at CH are more professional, but based on THIS experience, we don't recommend Carriage House.
Signed up after 3 years of them calling and emailing. Sales consultants told me half truths. I'm told diffetent things by the same people everytime I call. Not getting anywhere with them. Tried to contact sales consultant, they can't find him in their directory. Absolute ripoff. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME.

If I could give no stars, I would. I'm a Contractor, and this is the worse company I've ever did business with! First of all, they renewed my annual membership without my approval and took the money directly out of my account creating budgeting problems, so I call and speak to a guy named Rocky that told me once the money has been taken out, you can't get a refund. I disputed with him for a few minutes, then asked him how could he even sleep at night knowing that they are taking Contractors money and nickle and diming people. He said he slept quite well every night. Secondly, they have sent me mostly phony leads which they also charge you a lot of money for, even if the customer doesn't answer the phone or ever call you back. They will not refund you but tell you they can only credit your account with another lead supposedly which is phony in most cases. Take my advise! Stay clear away! A law suit is in the making!

Roy and his son Roy Jr. Painted my master bed and bath. They were very professional and courteous and above all patient with me me as I initially choose the wrong color! ( I hated it it on the walls!) After trial and error and his runs to the paint store I have a color I love! A million thanks for a great job!

I'm leaving a review because I saw all of the negative reviews on here and thought I'd add my honest, better, review.
We have a paving company and HomeAdvisor got us about 7 jobs this season. The price is higher than I'd like, but if we get the jobs, it pays for itself. This site does get you out there, then you have to take over from there with the customer. Occasionally, we will get a bogus lead - someone looking for a different service, or someone just window shopping and it's a 50/50 chance they will refund your money. I think if they can verify from the shopper, they will refund you.
I didn't like it at first, but 7 months later I'm still their customer, so I'd recommend them.
Hi Melissa, We greatly appreciate you sharing your experience and insight. We understand leads can sometimes be frustrating and we do our best to verify what we need to in order to issue a credit. I signed up with home advisors years ago and have a 4.65 rating with over 80 reviews, eventually shut them down because they are to expensive. A year later I tried them again and they posted my rating reviews again. I paid a start up fee $363. My leads are in the rang of $78 each. My limit was $400 month I received 5 leads within 2 weeks, I called each lead with in the 1st hour of receiving them. I called each lead 2 times, left messages, sent a text, sent an email. 4 never responded and 1 said she was just surfing the internet and basically was window shopping. The 1st month cost me approx. $800 that includes start up fee, with no positive leads. Stayed on for a 2nd month same nonsense either they don't answer or they were just shopping. I am out $1,200. Now the kicker, I delayed payment and tried to negotiate with home advisor they put me in collections. (Are you joking) My account is frozen until I paid the collection agency. When I call the collection agency my bill in now $470. I told them to go to hell. What a SCAM! HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS... Don't we have a government that protects us from these voltures. It's JUST AS BAD AS A PONZI SCHEME. And I cannot retrieve my 4.65 rating. Thieves
I hired 3 contractor on 2017. 2 of them are no good at all. One contractor half way through the the job and disappeared. Repeat calls go unanswered. Another one did a terrible job and blame all the problems to me. I asked home advisor to drop these no good contractor from their contractor's list, they told me no can do. So, don't believe their ad on tv.
Decked out put a sick bush in the front of our house which has only gotten worse as time goes by. Does ny 75 year 0ld wife have to replace it?
I called several contractors for a painting job. One sounded great, and he asked me to send him pictures of the job I wanted done. I sent him pictures, and waited. And waited. And waited. I contacted him two more times, nothing. I then posted a review on HomeAdvisor, but never saw it posted by them. They called me about the review, and I told them that their site isn't helpful if they don't post the negative reviews. They said I never used the services so they won't post it. Isn't the fact that they never got back to me relevant? I have to admit that I did get angry at the HomeAdvisor person, but they just sat there and kept repeating the same thing. I wasted a lot of time trying to contact the contractor, but obviously my time is worth nothing. I will not use HomeAdvisor ever again. (oh, and the other contractors on the site that I contacted were flaky too, no communication and no-shows to appointments).
Hi Margaret, We're sorry to hear you had this experience with a pro. There are a number of reasons we require the pro to be hired in order for the review to be made public. One of those reasons is that the most helpful feedback for homeowners when making a hiring decision are those ratings that are regarding actual work the company performed. If a homeowner submits a review about why they didn’t hire someone, it isn’t about their craftsmanship. Non-hired reviews are shared with the pro to make them aware of the issue and we reserve the right to remove them from our network if they have a lot of negative feedback. We're happy to address any other questions or concerns you have about our ratings, please reach out to emailus@homeadvisor.com and a rep will reach out. -HASupport
STAY AWAY FROM HOME ADVISOR! Parasites! They are a complete SCAM for credible hard working service providing handymen & contractors. From day 1 was an absolute "horror story" scam operation in their favor. Initiation fee's, quarterly membership due's & job fees are primarily what they are after from us laborers. Job referrals completely out of my zip code area where they charge fees for each referral. DO NOT EVER JOIN HOME ADVISOR! STAY AWAY FROM HOME ADVISOR!
Hi Yuriy, We're sorry you feel this way about our business, we are not a scam. While there are costs associated with our professional service, this is how we are able to keep our service free for homeowners and all fees are covered prior to signing up. The zip codes you cover are up to you and leads outside your desired coverage area are eligible for credit. We're happy to address any concerns you have, please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 to speak with a rep. -HASupport
Listing of contractors/vendors given by HomeAdvisor are a JOKE. No one ever heard of these contractors/Vendors. Reviews for these vendors by other sites shows them as Terrible. Don't waste your time with home advisor.

Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
