Ask for a survey, offer a gift and charge large amount later. Will not answer telephone, very poor customer service
Guru.com is a shady company run by fraudsters. I have already reported them for fraudulent activities on the FTC government site and I will also open criminal charges with the FBI. Guru runs a fraud scheme whereby they make it difficult to withdraw your deposits. After that they will delete the buyer's transaction history and account deposits. When you ask for your refund, they tell you they sent the refund but can't provide transaction proof, transfer ID, bank name and account number. It's been more than 30 days and the funds haven't been returned nor received. If you can't provide a bank transaction ID, it means you never sent the money. You stole it. I am sure Guru has stolen money from several clients. It's about time they faced the music from the Federal Authorities. If Guru has stolen your money, dont hesitate to report them to the FBI and FTC. Contact the links below:

I started getting suss when they stopped doing the work you ask for and
Things didn't add up.
When I threatend to not release the funds, they turn off their server, but I got them to put it back, by playing along, and I knew I had to pay the last payment to at least get something from my $2000 aud. With all considered I was lucky to get whatever work they did transfered to my wordpress hosting.
The GURUs name is AMAN,
Just read Fatima A's review, and she is totally right. I went through the same experience. I also wrote more than 30 articles for Joan Kimberly (sype id: Joan. Kimberly4), and she dissappeared. Guru.com is the worst place to look for a job. I feel cheated, and really dissappointed that I was so naive
Guru.com is a horrible site. It; s very confusing and difficult to navigate. One of the most UN-User Friendly sites I have ever experienced. Definitely switching back to Upwork.
Others are correct - they want govt issued IDs, voter ID/insurance bill/lease agreement/utility bill, full face photo, etc. AFTER MY CREDIT CARD HAD BEEN VALIDATED! I have not tried to use similar websites, but surely they are better than this. I feel sorry for the engineer I hired from overseas after reading these reviews.
When I tried to verify my card, they deducted $9.5 + $1 from my bank account without any refunds.
Such a lame marketplace with no opportunities.
I have had many good experiences with Guru.com however with my current project I had to leave a review.
It is entirely too easy for your freelancer to lie to you. They can easily hide their location, as well as who will actually be doing your work. On top of that once you have released funds there is NO WAY you can retrieve them. Their arbitration is a joke. Guru.com's mentality when it comes to their free lancers tricking and ripping you off is simply "sucks to be you". They tell you to be more careful and have a nice day. I have been lied to outright by multiple freelancers.
I am months over the due date for my website and it still does not function as agreed and I have no recourse to get my money back. If this company was really interested in protecting you they would make it a violation of their terms of use to not accurately represent who and where the work is being done.
THIS SITE IS A DANGER TO ALL THOSE RUNNING THEIR OWN BUSINESS! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.
I've been a member of Guru.com for several years, and just this year decided to try the platform out. I got a job, was given a 'great work' review and paid $60. Once I tried to withdraw the money, they started processing. A day later they cancelled and put it on hold, citing 'verification processes.' I jumped through the hoops for the Paypal account, but for some very strange reason the only problem was the phone number I gave them: they said they tried to ring me, with a busy signal at the end. I sat waiting with my phone for 3 days, only to receive silence and then a message today: '... it came up as busy and the verification could not be completed. Unfortunately, we could not complete verification with your or your employer. The funds have been returned and the accounts are closed.' In other words, they kept the money. They closed my account and supposedly refunded money to the client for a job well done?!? My account has been erased, which means no recourse to the clearly unhelpful Help Desk. This platform used to be respectable and legitimate. Not even close. Freelancers, beware. You won't see your money at the flimsiest of excuses. Mel
Hello, I have just started looking for jobs at this website unfortunately with my very first encounter I was faced with a scammer who already took $40 dollars from me and now even asking for more, its so unfortunate that this happens to me with my very first opportunity makes me never want to trust this platform again, hence I'm writing this hoping to do something about it as I have taken screen shots of everything that can help identify and do something about it,
Their name is or claims to be Mark 2436 and looks for "Arabic translation" and many have already quoted for this opportunity so I can only imagine how many have been trapped in my situation and not know what to do about it, and just few days after I received a similar request using the same Telegram from another person by the name James 3271 again looking for an Arabic translator while using the same tactics. I will be reporting this matter at the App review as well so people can know and hoping to update it should you ever do something about it
Thank you.
A safe haven for fraudulent developers.
Guru.com allows developers to get away with charging employers for work they did not even commence.
Their payment system sucks
I was a big fan of guru.com until Jan 2014 when they made some changes into there website.
1. I was getting 1200 per year for $180 (top membership) but after Jan 2014 they made some changes like Freelancers will be getting 600 bids per year for $190 (average membership), though freelancers any bid into any category now. I don't know what the point of making this useless change. I am a web designer and there is no point for me to bid into business consulting or similar category. Though they reduced there fees but i don' mind paying 2-3% extra.
2. Previous Guru.com was flooded with jobs until last year, Jobs was being posted in every couple of minutes. But after making changes there are only around 2500 jobs in all the categories and now this year i can also see some dummy projects. Means guru.com may be posting some dummy projects as well.
3. Sending messages to employer was free until last year but now it costs some bids to send message to employer.
My new favorite is peopleperhour.com
Interessting, if you sign up with these clowns and list the first job offer they will delete it automaticly, telling me i need to follow their guideline. Afer i emailed them they apologize and the job is live. Midnight i got an email saying i need to submit again docs because my was accurate. In the morning i just saw that my account is gone. I will do now a chargeback of 3.65 usd of my creditcard chargeback fee will be 20 usd just to make a statement. If you a digital nomad do not even use those $#*!s. Dont even use them. I guess they dont like colored people.
Pharish Manoack from Los Abgeles and Evans Meakey from New York have to pay about 460 dollar to me but they are not even responding. What is the way to put these scumbags behind bars. Attaching pic of the fraud - Pharish Manoack
I contracted proseigner to do some Android development work for me. Unfortunately the work was not carried out and the APK's are a waste of time, communications with the developer were terrible, the terms of the signed agreement were not met and after all this Guru.com did nothing to help resolve the matter despite the payment being made through SafePay. A terrible experience - DO NOT USE Guru.com
Set up a project, picked a supplier for a few logos and following the Guru.com terms, transferred money to SafePay which is apparently a secure escrow. NOT! After 10 days I was still awaiting logos as requested and Guru.com "AUTOMATICALLY" transferred the money from SafePay to the supplier without my consent. Why when the project wasn't complete? And they will not refund me. And the logos I have received are absolutely abysmal.
Scamming B*stards. AVOID Guru.com.
Job postings are marginally better than Outsource in frequency and provide some transparency as to the hiring party to legitimize the project. That said, Guru's platform attracts employers looking for free mockups - or completed work for next to nothing.
Their customer service is the worst I have experienced of any freelance site, IF you can even manage to get a hold of them!
Their policies regarding payment issues for freelancers verge on fraudulent and they ONLY have their own interests in mind.
Guru was far from perfect several years ago, when I was a loyal Guru freelancer. I abandoned the site for better prospects and rejoined recently out of curiosity, hoping perhaps they had strengthened their platform. Nope. Guru is an empty shell of its 'former glory', such as it was. Everything I am seeing (from their non-existent support staff to their ghost town of a Facebook page with nothing but complaints from users, to the fact that their website is DOWN 75% of the time - it isn't functioning as I write this!), points to the site's imminent and inevitable demise.
Good thing their are better options!
A person named $#*!son Aganda gave me 20 articles to write in 10 days via Guru.com. Work was done, didn't get paid. Guru.com is nothing but scam. Try fiverr and writers bay
Ive been scammed in this site and Guru.com does not do anything about it. Any knows any class action lawsuits going against them? Im sure there are thousands of victims like me.
**UPDATE: Guru did NOT respond to the BBB complaint and it was closed unresolved. What does that tell you about this company?
I think you have to pick and choose your battles and heavily scrutinize before choosing a guru. I have had an acceptable experience when it involves graphic design work, there has been communication issues every time but the end product has been to my satisfaction.
Where they have failed completely is when it comes to website design/programming. I have had three horrific experiences (3 attempts to complete one website) ending with losing my money on the last one (I have since filed a case with the BBB). Customer service dismissed any assistance so due to their safety auto scheduling and my not having 7 days notice prior payment so I could either reschedule or dispute I was screwed. To be clear, you cannot dispute AFTER the guru gets paid even if the work is incomplete!
Also, this is what I noticed. The gurus will send you examples of websites they (supposedly) created but they are not really their sites (one even had another web designers company name on the site).
The bottom line? Use caution, don't pay a dime until the work is completed, do not give them 50% halfway through the job, and hopefully it will work for you without the headaches.
Answer: Stay away this site because they are fool totally. I crated an account any uploaded my documents. They took all my documents and closed my account. It's a total scam. Soon they will come some reason and send you an email. I had posed a review of guru.com here and also attached the E-mail sent by guru.com. This is the Email sent by them: Hello. In an effort to promote a safe marketplace for our users, we regularly audit user accounts. Your account reveals information that indicates some questionable activity. While this information doesn't prove negative intent, we are obligated to protect our users from the risk. As a result, we've closed your account and must ask that you not use our site. Answer: It's a scam! They find any excuse to hold funds and terminate accounts. Steer away from those crooks!
