Although the concept makes sense, the user experience on this platform is extremely poor and not very well thought out. The solution that's being solved is smart, but the construct and built of this design is too complicated to use - would not recommend the use of this site.
I have completed my work and get paid through my client but I process the amount to withdraw the GURU.COm held my payment. Without any reason. I have written so many time there is no any response I got.
I have lost about $2000 on Guru.com. I have had freelancers lie and cheat, and misrepresent themselves. I paid for a website from a company that had a sterling 5-rating (which was lie aided and abetted by Guru.com) and they took my money and delivered nothing. I argued once again that this was both misrepresentation and fraud and that Guru.com should give my money and indefinitely suspend their account until things are rectified. I have contacted BBB and Guru.com has an F-rating (no surprise there) and I sent a letter to the Attorney General's Office. Has anyone sued these guys? Class action lawsuit all the way. Contact me: *******@yahoo.com
A couple of years ago I was scammed out of $600 by someone on Guru. When I reached out to Guru representatives, they said there was nothing they could do to help me, so I just had to move on with my life and deal with the loss. I have no job, so doing $600 of work and then not getting it was absolutely devastating to me. I still currently have no money, and now Guru has an inappropriate FEE just to verify your ID, which you are forced to do if you want to apply for any jobs. Not only do you have to pay them money just to verify your identity, but you also have to send them TONS of personal information that they should not need under any circumstances. They still let dishonest clients scam people out of $600 without doing ANYTHING about it, but we are the ones who have to verify our accounts and pay to use the website. I'm deleting my account. I lost over $600 to Guru and they refuse to pay me back. Don't use Guru!
I have nothing to show after 3 months of paying them to build a website. They told me the job was finished i was to rate them 5 star. Said i could not do that because i had not seen the finished product. Said they would upload it on temporary server to show me. Sowed me some foolishness and said the final version would have been tweaked as soon as i gave them 5 stars. I did. To this date noting to show. Wasted my money.
If you're looking to make money as a freelance writer, don't work here. They allow ads for less than minimum wage, which may appeal to people in India, BUT IS ILLEGAL in the United States. They do not care if you get screwed by scammers. Claim they need proof and say they will never take responsibility. This site and others like it need to be shut down. The owners should be prosecuted. DO NOT SIGN UP HERE. You've been warned.
I was a victim of a scam. Lost $1800. I was contacted by a "recruiter" Aja Gardner who sent me to an interview with a supposedly Human Resources agent from Mcmillan publishers. The agent made a one hour interview for the job and then sent me a check for $6900 for me to buy equipments. I deposited the check and as soon as I sent the first payment ($1800) to a supposedly computer retailer the bank bounced back the check. Everything was very professional, very well made...
I posted a job which was a google extension. I needed half a letter size of code. One gentleman applied for the job. I have suggested $30. He agreed on the price for coding this chrome extension.
Then, he asked me to chat on skype. I gave him my skype account. On Skype, he asked me to pay more money for the project. I said no and I stopped here.
I am not a pro of coding chrome extension but I am a pro in Javascript. It took me 8 hours to code the extension myself.
Then, I discovered it wasn't possible to get my money back. I was happy I only spent $30. I only lost $30
So, you may think I am stingy. However, If I would have spent $200, who say that I would have had something in return? I would have likely lost $200 in guru.com
I didn't have a problem with the freelancers. But they have the worst customer service. In order to approve my credit card, they keep charging a fee to my credit card and not refund it. Their CUSTOMER SERVICE is absolutely none. I keep messaging them and they are unresponsive. They still haven't approved my credit card. Don't use their service.
I completed a job and created my invoice, the client paid and I went in to transfer my money and now guru.com is holding my money and will not give me a clear reason why. I would not recommend using them. If and when my problem is resolved I am deleting my account with them. Everyone use elance.com or odesk.com they're the best.
The Guru I used was a fraud. So full of promises, so articulate and responsive. I paid $US500 and she kept telling me lie after lie after lie until my deadline was missed and I never heard from her again. I don't know about the company but the freelancer herself was the best scammer I have come across
I have been working with a "Guru" for over three months now with absolutely nothing to show for it. The level of incompetency I have witnessed from my Guru and the undeniably awful business policies of guru.com have combined to create one of the worst business experiences of my life. While I am sure it goes without saying that I will never use them again, I would like to go a step further and suggest that all guru.com users that feel the same way make sure to speak up ever more so that the site is eventually put out of business. I did my research before going with guru and wasn't able to find enough to dissuade me. I hope more people who feel the same will take a little extra time and speak up more about their experience.
I was scammed by a developer on the site. The support will not do anything to intervene.
The developer was indian registered as US based.
Worse is that reviews are HIDEEN and not shown. They will only show reviews if both sides write one, so the scammer can continue taking people money and get away with it as you will never see a single negative review.
Actually that developer has managed to make 127k US when I looked at his profile today. I think they are part of the same website.
Avoid them like a plague
I wrote 50+ articles for a client, and when it was time for my weekly payment I never received it. The client was Joan Kimberly with Skype name: Joan. Kimberly4 from Sarasota United States. I'm never going to be using Guru.com ever again. Highly unreliable and unsafe
A freelancer through guru.com was supposed to make a website for me. I paid money in several stages, each time the freelancer showed the result of the work. Unfortunately after a few payments the contact was broken and I applied to guru.com for refund. They also stopped responding, I applied for chargeback to the bank. The bank refused and guru.com simply deleted my account with them and they stopped responding completely. Worst customer service. Never make a deal through guru.
We did a project with a graphical designer for a shirt design, but the designer never delivered. However, guru.com assigned the escrow money to the designer. It is fatal for the trust of a website to touch the escrow money - we will NEVER use them again. We have using eLance for years with perfect results and the only two tries on guru.com were disastrous. It looks like the lousy freelancer work for guru.com. Just stay away from it.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY SCAM
I FOUND SOMEONE ON GURU.COM TO WRITE A ARTICLE FOR ME, THEY SEND ME WORK WITH SPELLING MISTAKES AND 33% OF THE WORK WAS PLAGIARIZED, GURU.COM DID NOT CARE.
WHEN I CONTACTD GURU TO COMPLAIN AND GET MY MONEY BACK, GURU.COM TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THETY CAN DO ABOUT IT AS THE FREELANCER HAD ALREADY TAKEN THE MONEY OUT OF THEIR ACCOUNT,
I SAID WELL SURELY YOU CAN RECOVER MY FUNDS THEY TOLD ME TO STOP THE PROJECT AND I LOST HALF OF MY MONEY,
I ALSO WROTE TO THEM SAYING SO ANYONE CAN JUST OPEN A ACCOUNT ON GURU.COM AND SCAM PEOPLE,
THEY NEVER RESPONDED,
I FEEL GURU.COM ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING THE CUSTOMER SAFE AND THE MONEY SHOULD NET BE RELEASED UNTIL THE JOB IS COMPLTED PROPERLY,
I WOULD NEVER EVER USE GURU.COM AGAIN AND WOULD TELL ANYONE TO STAY FAR AWAY FROM THEM.
Never use guru to hire freelancers. Guru is a website that encourage freelancers to scam the people. I have hired a web developer to develop a website for me, Guru asked me to put money in their safepay account to have the freelancer start working on my project. I ended up to be the fool to put the money in their safepay and once I told the freelancer that I am not satisfied with the work I received, he immediately filed invoice and collected the money. I don't know how guru gives him my money although he has no proof of delivering any work that I accepted. Please guys stay away from both Guru and their freelancers scammers.
Sadly I hired someone on this site to do my website.
He seemed competent in his description. After our initial contact, he asked for the first half of the money right up front, so I gave it.
After almost 3 months of not hearing much from him, he told me the website was done and to send him extra money for him to upload it, so I did, but it turned out that he never finished the site and the unfinished file he was trying to upload was not even uploaded properly. He demanded more money to feel motivated and finish the job. After days of stressing, I managed to get some of my money back, but I lost most of it. I would not recommend this site.
I use contractors on many sites. One of my long term contractors wanted to move to Guru. I jumped through their hoops, paid the contractor and then got an email demanding voided checks and copies of statements. When I refused, as everyone should since the statements contain IDEAL data for hijacking a bank account, my account was closed and the freelancer got his money pulled back.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Answer: Stay away this site because they are fool totally. I crated an account any uploaded my documents. They took all my documents and closed my account. It's a total scam. Soon they will come some reason and send you an email. I had posed a review of guru.com here and also attached the E-mail sent by guru.com. This is the Email sent by them: Hello.
