Many clients take work without paying for it and Guru.com does NOT help at all. I am a professional writer and technical consultant and feel a responsibility to warn others about the site.
I wrote a 42,000 word book for a client, Rebecca Farlene on guru.com. She took my work without paying and the site was less than helpful. Do not waste your time or effort on Guru.com. Besides facilitating theft of intellectual property, they are rude and disgraceful.
The client stole my work and the site does NOT care at all.
Guru will not help companies or users that get involved with freelancers. Most Freelancers in Guru are very weak. I was left with an unjust review from a freelancer that basically stole money from our company. Nothing to be done. WIll be leaving Guru asap.
Posting one job has never been more frustrating. I gave up after four tries, and never going back, because Upwork's process was seamless. Long story short: just use Upwork or Fiverr.
For everyone else interested in the details: First, their terms a policies are strict--maybe this is needed. But, they're not clear about them. After a few hours of posting, they reject your post saying there's one problem. You fix it, then try to repost. For some reason there is an error message. You start from scratch again, then post. You get another rejection email in a few hours, saying there's another problem (WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THE FIRST TIME?), you try fixing again, and are reminded that the site has an error forcing you to repost from scratch. Do that five times, contact their customer service, only to hear that I've been the one in the wrong for not abiding by their guidelines. Will not be going back to Guru.com
This site is a U.S. base site but the job market is set for overseas employment in terms of projects. Projects here are around a few hundred dollars. So qualified U.S. contractors cont work on this platform. The customer service is - Meh. Searching for a job here is not good. You can itemize what you're looking for. You just have to do a general search, then filter the penny contracts hoping to find a job. If there is a good paying job it is littered with overseas unqualified applicants. There are many better sites out there.
Don't use Guru.com until it commits to protecting clients. Guru allows contractors to delete negative reviews if the contractor is earning a minimum amount for Guru. This is a conflict of interest. Guru knows of one particular contractor which does shoddy work, uses the bizarre auto-pay feature to bypass the protection of escrow, insists on full payment to allegedly finish the work, retaliates if it receives a negative review and apparently earns enough to block negative reviews. Guru is aware of multiple complaints about this contractor but has not banned it.
Never ever trust this site especially if you are looking for a freelance job. I worked for this person named "Precious Hudson" with skype details: precious. Hudson62 who I can say is a TOTAL SCAMMER. Made me write around 100 articles and promised to pay me a good sum of 3$ per article. Seemed legit at first since she offered plenty of tasks after the other. However, when pay time came, she had plenty of excuses until one day she went offline in Skype! So disappointing! And I saw my works posted online. If you happen to be employed to this person, never ever trust her!
The same goes for those who only have Skype as a means of communicating with spammer employees trying to rip you off from all your efforts!
Went on the site looking to hire beta readers. Met a few, agreed on pricing, we moved to email for communication. Guru asks for you to verify phone number, photo of yourself, valid ID, and proof of address... just to do business with people online? I've been using other sites for years to hire readers and never had to do this. But here's the best partafter an entire day of back and forth with the freelancers I hired, they begin the projects, and Guru terminates my account. Out of nowhere. No explanation, just a random email saying they terminated it per their user agreement, and best of luck with my future endeavors... what?
I normally don't even write reviews. I went out of my way to warn someone, somewhere, about this $#*!ty $#*! website. Just go elsewhere. Don't waste your time. Seriously.
I've used guru.com for several years. As with all freelancers, it's hit & miss, always best to start with a small dollar amount and gauge the results.
However, I recently hired a freelancer using the SafePay option. I put 15 hours worth of $$ in SafePay and the next day my money was gone and so was the freelance. I never received and invoice or released the funds.
Guru.com is as equally responsive as the freelancer, no reply. I tried calling but that's just a voicemail brick wall with no reply as well.
I've had much better results on other sites and will take my business there.
Hello pls i beg you don't use this site guru.com the site is a scam itself full of scammers developers also, i just lost my $500 to this site, after they collect my money from me and they closed my account, if you need a good freelancer I advice you to go to fiverr
Pls don't fall victim never use guru.com pls
* It does not allow to provide comments with negative reviews( good for conmen)
* Site is slow(takes 10 seconds to response after a click from India)
* Shortage of freelancers. Even after paying $29 promotional ad with 10x promise gives only 3X results
* Cheap Indian support
* Support is not ticket based and is randomly responded. It's like a bet if you get a response.
I completed a project through guru.com. My client already deposited my pay in guru's safe pay, but when I try to withdraw it they say I can't do it. They asked me to wait for 7 days and after that, they gave me 3 more dates, and yet the payment was not released. So now they tell me that the client has filed charge back so they can't release my pay. I asked the client and he said he never filed any charge back. When I ask them, they don't give any responses. They are frauds.
Johnson 51 is his guru.com name (as employer) then with skype id as: wyatt. Collett1
He is a total scammer. Made me write so many articles and when it's payday time, did not bother to respond anymore. His job post is titled as "advanced writer needed" and he had many postings about it. Be very wary with these kind of people!
What i will do is i will post to webs all my write ups and so the students who paid him will be marked plagiarized!
Since Guru.com provides a platform for its service and doesnt communicate directly with you, it gives them a feeling that they can screw with you. That is the most horrible service I have experienced in my life. They dont protect you but take your money without asking you, they promise but its a lie, they offer but it is a fraud. I also reported about this scam in my school. Young generation must know about their predators and spread this information until the FBI investigates the structure and goal of this creature. Beware of Guru.com!
The site is full of scammers. Most of them want from you to pay them some fee before project that will be "refunded" to you later. Please... pure scam.
CYMS /GURU.COM is a scammer and have taken hundreds of pounds off of my company and have no work to show for it. In fact he has ruined the backend of my website which cost me £3995 in software. Do not allow these people near your website.
I would like everyone who has been effected by the to write a petition against this company. This fraud is still active on thier website over 2 years of robbing people blind.
As I am having problem with a project currently, I was investigating their review system and found something horrifying.
A freelancer has the option to remove up to 10% of the reviews he received, they call it 'blocking power'
That of course makes the whole review system totally useless. Not a lot of people leave bad feedback, they rather decide to not leave feedback at all (which already says that he wasn't extremely happy), if the freelancer has now the option to also remove the ones where really everything went wrong - You are left only with the most positive reviews - which is useless
Despite having lots of experience at elance/freelancer.com and similar sites, I am finding this deception currently out the hard way.
Stay away from them, you can't trust the reviews.
I used Guru to find someone to do my business logo. They guaranteed their work, but the logo that I received was of extremely poor quality. The work was definitely from an amateur. The person had very poor communication as well. I don't think they understood what I was asking for, and their replies were difficult to understand as well because of poor grammar. When I requested a refund, Guru sent me to an arbitration process and rewarded me half the money. I am also almost certain that the person released my logo idea out there. All of a sudden I see the exact same logo that I wanted all over the web. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GURU! Their customer service was also horrible.
You know I just tried on Guru again. Last time, I got two B$##$ clients that got the work done and on higher rates, asked me to converse on skype and as the work was done, a**ho*** never paid my money. Reading the reviews here makes me realize that sorry, majority were scammed too!
I added funds to my cash account, then when I needed to withdraw, they charged me a 3.5% fee. It's called a "cash account" as if it was a cash account and since I deposited the full amount, I should be able to withdraw the full amount, just like a real cash account. Not happy.
I should have read everyone reviews about guru.com before using the site, I have lost $3000( anuva technologies), paid every single milestone and was time to deliver the final work which contain the file for my project the freelancer stop replying to my emails & Skype messages, I contacted Guru and there is only that one person by the name of Joe who answer the phone and just told me there is nothing he can do but just delete the freelancer account(anuva technologies), I have an agreement in place and guru told me at beginning that the agreement is your protection and now they telling me there is nothing they can do, I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor well apparently there is none but only a person named Joe! I called daily to resolve this and no help, this is just to easy. I need to take action people can keeping on getting ripped off like that, anyone for tried a class A action lawsuit? *******@gmail.com
Answer: Stay away this site because they are fool totally. I crated an account any uploaded my documents. They took all my documents and closed my account. It's a total scam.
