Guru
KEEP AWAY FROM THIS PLATFORM!
If you are looking to hire a freelancer, this is not the right platform
Guru hides behind interpretations of their own wording and provide no help or support in case of dispute between vendor and employer.
They consider that they have no involvement with any of the transactions as they only provide the platform for both parties to meet.
Is the freelancer less than honest? Not Guru's problem.
Is the milestones a trick to get employer to pay freelancer even before the project is completed and with no guaranty that the project will be completed? Not Guru's problem.
Employer is unhappy with the freelancer and wants his/her money back? Not Guru's problem.
Is the freelancer less than qualified to do the job? No Guru's problem.
From our experience, it appears that Guru DOESNT SCREEN their vendors.
Anyone who claims to know how to do any work can join their platform and if these providers are unprofessional, crooks or just unethical then it appears that Guru does not care.
The Guru platform is the one of the worst of this type. All our projects with vendors we found on this platform have arrived to a dead end due the lack of knowledge and experience of the vendor, despite extensive conversation to ensure that the service provider understood the full scope of the work.
So our recommendation is to avoid Guru platform by all means.
Guru.com is very kind to customers and It is my pleasure to work there.
Thank you to GURU.COM SUPPORT!
Nothing but thieves, scammers and liars on this platform. Dont ever use this site unless you want your money stolen.
I created my account 10 days ago and posted a job for iOS developer. Then site asked me to upload my IDs like government provided id proof, driving license, pan card, aadhar card, bank statement.
Round 1: I uploaded all of my information.
My personal name, phone, address
Photo
Address proof: bank statement
Id proof: driving license
They accepted 2 and rejected 2.
Round 2:
I uploaded my photo and driving license again as it was rejected in last round.
This time, they accepted new uploaded info and rejected the other 2.
Round 3:
I uploaded again all the info,. This time accepted 3 but rejected 1 again.
I uploaded that rejected info again.
Finally I received an email that all my documents are accepted.
After this i received another email and it was mentioned thath due to some negative activity they are going to close my account.
I am attaching an screenshot of this email.
I mean, these people took my all the documents and then just closed my account without giving any reason. I didn't do any wrong thing on this site and not sure why they did this.
I would request you not to give your any documents to these people because it's not a place to work.
I hope soon these people will learn a lesson because there is something wrong happening. Don't know if they are selling your information to some illegal parties.
There are plenty of market place and much better then this guru.com and I would like work on any of them.
After reading all the reviews on this site, including the most recent one by Andrew which definitely sounds like a planted review, I have to concur with others that this site is pretty much full of scammers and fake jobs. If you do find a decent paying job, chances are the posting will be deleted within a day or two after it's listed. Their fees are high, not low - 8.95% of the project cost. Most of the postings aren't worth bidding on. Asking for expert writers with top notch skills and the offer of $4-5 per hour? It's gone downhill in other ways too since they changed their format, such as the algorithms that you can't change for employers to find you. For example, the main algorithm they set for me is writing articles. There's absolutely nothing on my profile that says I write articles! Nothing! It's really annoying because content warehouses invite you to apply for their jobs of writing 25 to 25,000 articles paying a dollar or two for each one! Lol! Guru is now basically a site for people that live outside of the States who will work for next to nothing, or scam artists around the globe. So many good freelancers have left, and I'm another one. Don't go into these jobs blindly. Ask for good faith money upfront. To the employers who posted bad reviews about freelancers, practice due diligence. Ask to see a LinkedIn or other professional profile. Call them up... talk to them. I always gave my phone number out along with proof of my editing/ writing by providing a list of works on Amazon and other sites that list my name as editor. Stay smart.
Posting this to warn other freelancers to stay clear of Guru. It used to be a good site years ago. Not anymore.
It's a scam! They find any excuse to hold funds and terminate accounts. Steer away from those crooks!
Many jobs are fake and if you want to apply on jobs by verified employers you will have to take paid membership.
Very good service for those who are not fraud or scammers. Their site works very well as well as the clients are very polite and humble
When funding my project for the winning freelancer (MicroTechnologies http://www.guru.com/freelancers/micro-technologies), I selected "Payment Protection" with the belief that "Payment Protection" would avoid being ripped off. NOT! "Payment Protection" is a SCAM! If you select that option it sets up a schedule to automatically disburse funds to the freelancer on an arbitrary schedule. The first of three payments was made and I had no problem with it.
I was away from email for a few days and later got an email that a second payment was made automatically, and the third and final payment was scheduled to go out in a couple of days. I attempted to reschedule the payment for later but that did not work. The freelancer had all the money.
He was working with me so I figured if I had any issues "Payment protection" would take care of it. First of all they sucked! No creativity and very sloppy! I basically had to coach them along the entire business card design, their drafts had text that were not aligned etc. A lot of back and forth. The freelancer suddenly stopped responding to my emails and the Website he contracted to deliver was not delivered. He then told me I needed to give him more money to complete the project.
I contacted Guru.com and they are doing absolutely nothing to resolve it. They say they can't refund my money because all payments have been made and I had exceeded the time-frame to dispute payments. Why did this happen? Because I spent 90 days going bakc and forth with the freelancer (http://www.guru.com/freelancers/micro-technologies) and he suddenly stopped delivering. Here's the kicker, Guru.com gives you about 60 days to leave reviews and I cannot leave a review for this company that allows others to know who they are dealing with. I've asked Guru.com to give me access to writing reviews and they still have not. I'm still going back and forth with Guru.com to get my money back and to allow me to post a review.
Found a developer from India to develop a website+android+ios app for my business. Signed a contract, used a safepay. According to guru terms of service my money is guru's money once they get them, but they monitor the job too. If they find that the freelancer is unable to deliver on time - guru can work on employers favour... YEAH RIGHT! Not only in my case the freelancer was more than 1 month late, I haven't received a thing! No alpha, no beta test products. Absolutely nothing! Guru arbitration ruled that I was 100% right and refunded the last payment I was due to pay months ago to finalize the job. After I spoke about the rest of the money paid already, they closed my job on guru, then blocked messaging to the freelancer. I turned to guru customer service seeking help, and they ignored me for 2 weeks. Once I turned to PayPal (that's how I transferred my money), guru got in touch with me within a couple of hours! They only thing they wanted - to remove my dispute from paypal so they could discuss my problem with them. I refused and demanded 100% refund. No one from guru ever contacted me. They closed my account and removed all files I had there (luckily I saved it all on hard drive and still got it). PayPal refunded 2 out of 5 payments and accepted my evidence. Other 3 are still under review. AVOID GURU.COM BY ALL MEANS AND LET OTHERS KNOW THAT THESE SCAMMERS FARM FAKE ACCOUNTS TO MILK MONEY FROM PEOPLE WHO WANT TO START THEIR BUSINESS OR DO THE JOB. Just a hint, when you own a web service like guru, you don't have to rely on REAL freelancers. All you need a bunch of people who will sit behind the desk 24/7 and accepting jobs and taking money on safepay, pretending being freelancers. Absolutely fake service, 100% scam scheme. Just a heads up, if you were scammed by them, and paid with paypal, contact paypal and provide them with all you got. It helped me!
DO NOT USE THIS SITE, they only want the money, once they get it could not care less that goes fro the Both Guru itself and those on it
Answer: Stay away this site because they are fool totally. I crated an account any uploaded my documents. They took all my documents and closed my account. It's a total scam. Soon they will come some reason and send you an email. I had posed a review of guru.com here and also attached the E-mail sent by guru.com. This is the Email sent by them: Hello.
