It took me 2 days to realize that the site is FULL OF SCAMMERS who write for iwriter, with no intentions of paying you.

If they...

1. Ask you to work off Skype instead of GURU, RED FLAG #1

2. If they request you to be able to write for a wide variety of niche's, from fitness to cars RED FLAG #2

3. If they inform you that you will be working for one week straight expecting SEVERAL articles from you and not paying you for a week. RED FLAG #3

4. If they seem ambiguous about their contact information ie; becoming hostile when you ask for it RED FLAG #4

5. If their job request looks exactly like a job posting on 'iwriter' you can be absolutely sure you will NOT be getting paid for the job. RED FLAG #5

Please do your homework and trust your instincts before agreeing to do any work from GURU off the platform.

It took me one day to realize all this! Anything that seems to good to be true... well you know the rest!

Bunch of scammers on here. All lying on their profiles. Finished a job with a person that provided horrible work, then they changed their profile right after I paid

In short, if you are a troll/vampire, thief - go join guru. If you are an honest developer/employer, don't go anywhere near this place.

Thankfully the flags went up before I deposited money, I'll start with the company/website, from what I see it's meant to protect the developers/artists, as it highly favors them, not the people spending money... Which tells you who gets what out of the deals on the site. Basically you promise to pre-pay someone before they deliver... which is ok, unless the site is populated by trolls, thieves and children who think they are 5 star material and return with 1 star products.

Within the first day of posting I received 5 "quotes", one person e-mailed directly. The person who e-mailed me I'm still working with is great! 3 of the people I was talking to on their website were great, 1 was a fraudulent company from India, quoting a low number, then replying with literally 1k% increase in total cost. The last was from what I could tell a teenager trying to make money.

Lastly, I was about to throw money at a couple of these artists but Guru deleted my posting, which also makes you unable to contact those who quoted you. Why? Because I mentioned that my project was for Kickstarter and that volunteers with a passion for the idea/game were going to be favored for long-term paid positions after it's release over non-volunteers. There was an outline for what I was paying, for non-volunteers.

I teach at a major university. Guru connected me with some kid in India who did a fine job for my project (editing some class photos w/ Photoshop). I signed off on the project's completion and authorized Guru to pay. Guru emails me a few days later that they need some additional verification information (which it could have asked for at account initiation). I wrote back that "I am at the airport leaving the country for 10 days. I dont have this information handy." Two days later, Guru wrote back "Hello David, I've not heard from you regarding verification of the payment. Therefore, a credit has been issued to your credit card and should be reflected in your account balance within 3 to 5 business days. Your Guru account has been closed." So, I get a free project and the kid in India gets stiffed! Only through heroic efforts of my secretary do we figure out how to get the account reinstated and the kid paid. The kid wrote back "First of all let me thank you for your crystal clear sincere replied mail. The mail shows your whole hearted attitude you showed sincerely for the loss of the amount that is going to occur to me. But to be very truthful, it was not the loss of the amount I am worried with, but the loss of my first client from Guru.com. Your mail gave me a great strength because I did not lose you. For this I salute you with a huge thanks and never ending gratitude. As you asked regarding the payment. Still it is not updated. Let us wait for some time and see what is happening." He eventually got paid. I think Guru.com's conduct is shameful.

An awful experience from start to finish and has left me with the distinct feeling I've been somewhat ripped off for the not insubstantial upfront cost of £800.

Pushy salesperson who didn't deliver what he promised on the phone (no surprise there I suppose, we should've known better).
One poor token gesture CV what conveniently arrived on launch day of the advertising absolutely nothing since - 5 weeks wasted!
Requested the scanned out C. V's "Guru" allegedly received twice during the advertising period nothing has arrived!
Very little information supplied to ratify their advertising boards/channels (apparently some are confidential) giving me the impression its all about minimising advert costs & maximising Guru's profitability - rather than finding you a suitable candidate.
Very little personal contact with the "so called" account manager over the period (as promised by the sales guys) More of an emailing admin contact than someone assisting the recruitment process.
Guru dashboard with poor functionality and ZERO information other than a poor CV.
On a positive Guru are very good at chasing the "up front" payment! LOL

Don't waist your money with this company, do your own recruitment advertising, or, use a reputable recruitment agency (no hire no fee is always the best!).

I've worked on Guru as a freelance off-and-on for about four years. Certainly, compared with the competition, it is the best-managed and most useful of sites in which one can offer services directly to those who seek them. Everything works on Guru, and the fees are reasonable. What's more, Guru has been largely successful at attracting serious professionals who seek work from their peers. This has kept the fee levels reasonable on Guru, whereas on most of the other freelance sites they are derisory. Because, most of the time, one deals with serious professionals there is little friction. When there is a problem, it is usually because the employer is a poor communicator or is challenged in some fundamental way, and it is fortunately possible to avoid these (though not always). However, in the time I've spent on Guru, the quality of the employers has been relatively high most of the time. No similar site can make the same claiim -- I've been on all of them, and given up almost all. Where Guru does fail is in its arbitration process for disputes -- this continues to be of a low quality. But all the other services are top-notch, and one need not get into arbitration if one avoids poor employers. So thanks, Guru, for doing what no other freelance site seems to be capable of.

Horrible scam site
March 3, 2020

I did job for someone in USA he payed 90 dollars and when I tried to withdraw payment was on hold because he didn't verify his ID. He can pay without verification but when I need to withdraw he needs to verify? This is classical scam where they can legally keep money because employeer didn't verify ID even though he payed with credit card. Policy is horrible and not worth they will do everything just to keep money away from you. Even though you are the one who wasted your time. AVOID THEM AND FREELANCER KEEP TO UPWORK!

In spite of:
(a) money being held in an ironically named "safepay"
(b) a police report submitted together with mountains of evidence against the cyber criminals "NIX SOLUTIONS"
(c) "NIX SOLUTIONS" actually admitting to illegally leaving ransomware on our servers

guru.com and their "arbiters" decided to award 100% of the disputed amount to these crooks citing "we do not find evidence...""

The company had good revieuws guru.com on how this could still not clear to me.
He said he would immediately get started with design of the website.
He sent me links miscellaneous times of template site, it was not his design but just standard design. I rejected the so-called design.
Each time I was told that I rejected his design and therefore it took so long, this is nonsense because he just copied from the internet link of a template site.
I agree at some point with a template, because I realized that he is not able to design their own website.
He has now completed 15% but it just takes forever.
He said it 50 times: tomorrow he's ready, today he is ready. He has never fulfilled one of his promises.
The work he has done so far looks very amateurish.
He has kept in line me so long that I can not place revieuw at guru.com, he knows exactly how it works!
I assumed that if I hired someone over the guru was safe, but unfortunately this is not true. They do offer supposedly safe to pay, but could choose on my order because the seller did not accept it.
It's not about me so much about the money I've lost, but I'm sick of that I scammed. It has also aroused in me a lot of negative energy.
I give up, it has now lasted for three months and there is no progress.
Be aware for this kind of people!

I hired someone from Guru to do a website for me. Guru required that I put money in the escrow of $615.00. First, they made two small deposits to my account for verification. I verified the 13 cents and 20 cents that were posted to my account. I then transferred $615 to them. After, they requested, my bank statement, cashed checks, voided checks and numbers associated with the account. My bank advised against providing them with all the information that they were requesting but went ahead and provided them with it.
After receiving the information, they blocked my account and told the person I hired to do the work that the money was returned to me because I did not provide verification of account. Fortunately, I had the private email and phone number of the person I hired. I contacted him and provided to him the detailed information of the money I transferred to Guru. When he confronted them with the information, they told me that my bank should request for my money. Wells Fargo my bank told me that since the money was already paid, there was nothing they could do. I spent several days trying in vain to get my money or have the money I sent paid to the person I hired. It was a fruitless effort.
This is my first review of any business. I want to write this perhaps someone may not have to be scammed as I was. Please read other reviews, if I read perhaps I could have avoided them. If you have to use them, please request and get a direct contact number and email of the freelancer just in case they block you out.
I wish you all the LUCK IN THE WORLD if you have to use them.
