My zone 5 requires planting after Mother's Day. Just received my tomatoes peppers and eggplant last week June 8 and planted them the next day with some coverage so the could adjust. Why did it take so long to ship? I was hoping when they arrived they would be nice hardy matured plants. BOY I WAS Wrong!
I guess you get what you pay for…. Will NEVER order from them again. I want my money back!
Please see pictures and video of what I received.
I've waited 2 months for my order. Still waiting. I'm up to 10 e-mails for status. Nothing. They have my money. I don't have my products for spring activities. I did get several 'out of stock' notices & asked if my account was credited. Again, crickets. This company should be avoided. There are plenty other reputable companies out there that I"ve dealt with & provide great products & service. This is my first try with Gurney's
I have been waiting now for over a month and despite the items ordered being "available for shipping" they have yet to ship them. I plan to cancel my order week or barring that institute a chargeback. Absolutely useless customer service too.
I placed an order for sunflower seeds and a few bulbs nearly three weeks ago. I had to pay over $10 in shipping so I expected that I would receive my order within a reasonable amount of time. Customer service is slow to respond if they do at all and they did absolutely nothing to get my order to me. I am still waiting. My advice is stay away! I will never order from them again.
I ordered a butterfly bush, the only type that was left showing in stock. After placing my order I was informed it was on back order. After waiting several weeks to receive it, we planted actually to instructions and it did not grow. I contacted them and they said it was no longer available and tested a credit to my account. All of the butterfly bushes are out of stock. The is morning else I want it need from them. They refuse to issue a refund even though they claim they guarantee their plants will grow.
Lousey customer service!
About half of the items I ordered from Gurney's failed to germinate. No refund is possible, only store credit to buy more, which I don't want to do.
An order of strawberry plants arrived short several plants. Again, no refund or replacement is offered, just store credit for the number of plants that didn't arrive.
Gurney's says that its plants are guaranteed to grow but their refund policy is unfair.
I have purchased many things from Gurney's and have been highly disappointed. This past year in the late winter I ordered blue marigold seeds. They were clearly yellow. Also the other seeds I have purchased don't germinate. Do yourselves a favor and go to your local garden center. I will gladly look at the magazine but will never purchase from Gurney's again.
I wish I would have seen these reviews before I ordered from Gurney!
We placed a large order thinking that they would know what grows in MN. Save your money and go to a local nursery! They will have a better idea of what grows in your area, with better quality and customer service. We ended up with little tiny things that will take years to grow, and one dead one that they can't replace for who knows how long. Waste of money! Won't be doing that again!
I have ordered from Gurneys in the past, they sent smaller than expected items but had good prices ( with a coupon). Fast forward to a Juilet cherry bush ordered 3 months ago. The estimated shipping date keeps changing. Upon contacting an employee last week, they said my order would be put on "rush". Not sure what type of rush they are in, but my order still hasn't shipped. Unfortunately the "prime" warm day/cooler night window is rapidly closing in my region. Roots need this weather to get established and I will have to work WAY harder to make sure my cherry bush stays alive (if it ever shows up). Absolutely disgusted with this company and will never order from them again.
Ordered some strawberry plants ONLINE.No problem with that. PHONED them a few hours later, to see if I could add another item. The phone operator said that the order was not yet shipped, so yes, I could add it.
Checked back with Gurney's today (online again) and the phone person FAILED to add my item a few days ago. My order has been shipped. So now, if I want the extra item, it will cost me $9 to ship it, instead of the $2, if it was added to my original order.
I'm NOT happy with Gurney's phone people.
Dissatisfied! On May 14,2024, ordered the following items:
******* CUCUMBER SLICING STRAIGHT EIGHT PKT - 1
******* POTATO GERMAN BUTTERBALL 2 LB - 1
******* BUSH BEAN CANTARE 2 OZ PKT - 1
******* VEGETABLES ALIVE! [R] FERTILIZER 2 LB - 1
******* PINK MUHLY GRASS - 1
Potatoes didn't even begin to grow. They turned black and shriveled. Cucumbers, well, they aren't. Some other seed was in the packet. Photos show full leaves, then flowering, and then...well what are the yellow things? Also, is the fertilizer what it says it is? I'm not sure. So far the muhly grass is slowly growing. I'll see how long and how high in the coming weeks. This is like ordering a fine red wine to get grape juice in the mail. Deceptive practices.
Ordered a white mammoth mum dormant root and also a red mammoth dormant root from Gurneys. They came in the mail with ice and snow on the ground in Nebraska. The white dormant root had life in it. You could small leaves forming on it. The red dormant root was dead as a door nail. I have been planting plants 50 years and l know a dead plant when l see it. They shipped the plant dead. Called and they said they were out of stock. Could not hardly understand the person on the phone. (Bad English) anyway l asked for money back and she said No. So l am out about $21.00 dollars including shipping. Please do not buy from Gurneys as they are deffinitley a big rip off..
I've ordered from Gurney's and lots of other Garden's Alive companies in the last few years. Pandemic aside, their fulfillment abilities were never great but now they are downright atrocious. They continually push your delivery date. Originally, I was supposed to receive my order in April of 2022. By the time I cancelled, they had an ETA of early June.
On the cancellation, they only refunded less than half. I am still after them for the rest. If I can't recoup the cost then I will have only lost about $30 or so. A small price to pay to know that Gardens Alive brands are trash. If you know of a local nursery or mail order outfit, you are probably better off than ordering the diseased and ineffective trash they send.
I placed an order for tomato and pepper plants in early April. I live in a hot climate and HAD to get these plants in the ground ASAP, because it quickly gets so hot that nothing grows. They told me the plants were ready to ship and would do so in 2 weeks max. Well, I just today received the order nearly 2 months later!
The worst part is that they changed the expected shipping dates without a word, like others have mentioned. When I contacted support they just gave me a canned response, and said they would put a note on my order to have it shipped right away. Lies! That was weeks ago. Some rush! Now it's far too late to plant.
On top of that, the plant quality is downright awful. The plants are far too tiny for what I paid. They're all clearly nutrient deficient with yellow leaves and purple stems. One of the tomato plants was nothing but a stick! How can any company ship something that's near dead?
The roots were wrapped in tight plastic that probably starved them of air. When I unwrapped them, the dirt was dry. It's a wonder anything lived through the mail in our heat. Hopefully some of the plants can recover enough to plant in the fall, but I have little hope.
I would NEVER order from here again. The only reason I did was because they lied and said plants were ready to ship.
Just received my tomato plants today and they are in terrible shape, out of 8 plants only one might have a chance, this is the second order in a month that has been bad, the first was strawberry plants that were all dead but on plant out of ten, which they did make right and send another offer but only 6 were good out of ten and now these tomato plants, when you call you get a non English speaker customer representative and it's had to communicate! Will not order from them again! Very dissatisfied
Ordered in January. Mid April now and still waiting for most of plants to arrive.
Wait and wait and wait and go to their website every couple of days. The promised date of delivery keeps changing, but the products are never sent. Getting too warm to be planting trees now.
They delivered a dead, dry stick for a tree.
Some of their stuff has grown though, so it isn't all that bad.
Won't be buying again from them.
I placed an order in August for 3 items. First frost was last night and have not received the order. So far they have only shipped 1 item as of 10/31. Just got a note card saying part of the order was cancelled. Bad company and bad service. Will never buy from them again.
I purchased multiple items from Gurney's back in January…. Delivery was scheduled for April. In April, I was told that delivery would be delayed until mid May. Mid May, I was told items were back ordered and would not be delivered until the end of June. I had ordered blueberry bushes, strawberry plants, asparagus and raspberry plants. We are already experiencing 90 degree weather here in SC, and now it is too late to plant. The reason why I placed my order in January was to insure a spring delivery. Now, thanks to Gurney's, I have missed my planting opportunity for this spring. Will NEVER do business with them again! The only positive note was that getting my refund was no problem…
I orderd yellow bush beans, planted in spring to my suprise I got 90feet of green pole beans, not a yellow bean in the buch.pulled all the plants gave them to the deer. Will never order from them agian,I dont think they even care//
Orders placed and confirmed are cancelled with explanations such as "system glitches" etc.
Orders actually processed and received are sub-par compared to other sources.
I would not recommend this company.
Answer: It use to be a good company, now it seems like they don't care about quality.
Answer: Phone call the wait is moderate. However they just read from a script so are not helpful. I requested to speak to a manager. One wasnt available so the rep said one would call me by end oaf day. Of course I never got a call back from a manager.
Answer: Johnny's Selected Seeds is great for seeds. They are always tested for viability and the company is employee-owned. https://www.johnnyseeds.com/
