I am going on 10 weeks with my issue and no resolution. Submitted a payment of $117, their system took $1170. Mind you the balance owed total was $400 on a card with $800 limit. Called immediately and got told to contact my bank as there wasn't anything they could do. So I filed a dispute to get money back. Green Dot has fought it the entire time stating they want a receipt of my payment. That'd be doable if they actually gave you a receipt, rather you get a "thanks for your payment " when you submit a payment. They have since closed my account down due to me filing a dispute with bank. I can no longer access customer service and am still without the $700 they stole! I have filed complaints with BBB and Attorney General over this. Avoid Green Dot like the plague!

I had this debit card for a while and liked it a lot. I had no issues at all with the customer services. I would recommend this card to anyone. I must say they do charge a monthly fee which is the con for this card. The only way to avoid this monthly fee is to deposit at least $500-$1000. 00 on the card within a monthly time frame. And to keep that amount in the account. You see I deposited my tax return and that also helped with the monthly fees too. So before you sign-on, I say read the agreement well.

Never Use Again

I was a customer for 10 years. At first they blocked my account for suspicious behavior. I sent my id and they unblocked my account for 3 days and blocked it again. I sent my id again but this time they closed my account without reaching out or any explanation. I know for a fact that there was no suspicious activity on my end. I have $5,299 in that account and can't get in touch with anyone. I've emailed them, called and waited on the phone for hours just to have someone say ok let me put you on hold just to hang up after an additional 20 minutes on hold. In the meantime my bills aren't getting paid, I'm running out of food and gas and greendot doesn't care. Worst experience ever. If I didn't have to give them a star trust me they would get zero. My next step is getting a lawyer because I refuse to let them keep my money

Stole my money

The verification codes never work. You must have your card activated in order to supposedly talk to help, but your card can't be activated. They referred me to Just Answer for help but they said they do not work with companies. Crooks. Thieves. They stole $100 from me. They sell these at CVS.

No professional staff
October 25, 2021

Today I went and checked my account and was told my account would be closed on October 31st 2021 due to them selling out to another company. Never had any other warning as my check is deposited the 3rd of every month. They hung up on me 3 times and told me oh there is nothing we can do. It's disgusting how they gave no notice.

That one star is undeserved, i was forced to rate at least one by this site. If I could give negative stars, I would give **************. Nothing more to say, just a rip off with $8+ per month (can change without notice) in fees, the % surcharge for getting it apparently wasn't enough money for them. In the end they got 25% of the money I put on the darn thing. Never EVER would I recommend this card unless you are super rich and are putting tens of thousands of dollars on the thing, and only need it for a short time. Otherwise they are just another company that overcharges on fees to get rich quick -- even if only 1000 people use the card per month, that's already 8k in the bank for them without even actually doing anything. Now, if you need to MOVE the money on/off the card -- those fees are even worse I wont even get started on that because I didn't make the mistake of saying ok when it showed me how much it was going to charge for a simple withdraw from the account.

Big letters on front of card say NO MONTHLY FEE. Have to put your glasses on to see that it's with qualifying direct deposit. Who the $#*! buys a pre paid card to set up direct deposit? Now I'm out 8 dollars on a monthly fee I haven't even owned the card for a few days how can I charge me a monthly fee. This whole company needs shut down after reading all these reviews.

At this point greendot bank had stole 18 thousand dollars from me under suspicion of fraud even after all identification documents have been provided and funds are verified.Ive talked with 7 different people and even had one tell me he wouldn't transfer me to a supervisor and that it is what it is. The fact that walmart still uses them is ridiculous.

I've been waiting for my tax refund of $5000 since Feb 2022. I contacted IRS and they verified they sent it to Green Dot Feb 25,2022. I have called Green Dot and cannot get to a live person because it asks for account number which I do not have so it is impossible to reach a representative. I chatted with numerous reps via chat online and they cannot assist me because I do not have an account there. I do not even know why the IRS sent it to them in the first place. So basically, I cannot receive my refund. I have no choice at this point other than filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau

To i discovered and unauthorized purchase on my walmart debit card. I contacted them through chat and even after i told them i could not use the phone due to severe hearing problems they told me to call them. A year or so ago i had an unauthorized purchase on my debit card and filed a complaint online. Apparently this is no longer done, poor customer service. I again told the person on chat that i could not call and way if was informed i have told you how to file a complaint. This is poor customer service and a lack of compassion for those who have disabilities. I am 73 years old and retired military and only use my phone for text all other communitions are done by email. Apparently they don't care. Will be dropping this debit card as soon as this matter is resolved.

If your just a regular ol joe with a low income dont use this. I couldn't use it at any atm. They gave me different stories. Nobody speaks english. Takes half an hour to speak with someone. Please dont do it just because its convenient. I've got over a thousand dollars I cannot get off this card and they cant figure out why it wont work. So I'm having to go to Walmart and do cashback and buy something for each one hundred dollars I do a cashback. Just support your local bank an pay off your debts. It will be worth it.

My son bought a green dot VISA debit card to give to someone as a gift. Before the recipient was able to use the card, email was received noting that the card had been suspended due to suspicious activity, The only suspicious activity was the monthly service fee of $7.95 by Green Dot.

Will never use this company again.

Fantastic service for me and best customer service when I need help. Like option to earn rewards when shopping and to stash money on my account to use when I need it. Logging in is a breeze and they take security seriously. If I log in from a different device they send me a code to verify it's me!

A total waste of time and money will never use them again. Customer service is non-existent and no way to get a representative to file a complaint or get any type of help and the fees are just a way to steal your hard earned money stay far away if you value your time or money

Worst Company I have ever dealt with. Can't talk to a supervisor if u ask. Bought a. Loadable card at Kroger qnd as soon as I activated it my money was stolen off. It has been a complete nightmare trying to get anywhere with these people. I asked if they were based in the u.s. a and was told they are not. Go figure. Always have problems with them on just qbout everything. They are rude and hung up on u as well. Never will use them again.

It is easy for me to use... I like the app and I also get text messages when I use my card. When I received my cash back at the end of the year, I was really ecstatic! The easiest $100 earned. I'm already there and have to wait until next year.

Update to green dot and stimulus money

Update the deputy attorney general of california called me and went ahead and started an investigation and not more than a week later i had a check in full delivered by fed ex. Thank you all in the office of the Attorney General.

From 2016-2019 i went through a personal downfall. My bank in may of 2019 was state chartered Greendot Bank. Due to bank error in which they accidentally added more money to a savings to checking transfer i made in 2019 and my lack of keeping up with my balance the account became negative $1400. I have made payments a little at a time to bring balance down. In april Gov Gavin Newsom signed into law executive order N-57-20. This order stated"1. Funds in any account held by an individual who received the financial assistance described in Paragraph 1 shall be exempt from any such lien or setoffincluding, but not limited to, any such setoff in connection with fees charged to, or debt arising from, the same account in which the funds are held". Gobank/Greendot setoff my whole stimulus deposit in the amount of $1200. After hours spent everyday calling and requesting to speak to someone in the corporate office i finally recieved a call from Jonathan a Corporate Manager within the office of the Ceo. I Stated my case which is that an Executive order was signed into law and most banks are working with and not against the customers voluntarily. He responded that the deposit was taken automatically and the system is setup that way and wasn't much he could do for me. He added he would look further into it but couldn't make any promises. I ended with "that will be fine but i do believe they are legally, if not out of goodwill, bound by the order. And that i would pursue this further if no response. I believe Gobank/Greendot is violating state law by not adhering to the Executive Order. This has caused My 2 daughters and Myself to be on the brink of falling behind on utilities/rent. Im a full time divorced Father of 2 Girls with 22 yrs working for the United States Government.

Horrible Service

I am not surprised with the bad reviews. I work as a dasher for door dash and forgot I signed up for a card using this bank.

Last weekend I needed money quick so I chose the fast pay option. A few days later I noticed that the money was not in my regular account. I called doordash who told me funds were sent to account from greendot bank and to contact them.

The customer service for green dot is beyond atrocious. They have a robot try to end call right away. They keep asking for card number which i dont have. I had to press option for identity theft just to reach a live person.

Unfortunately the customer rep was of no use either. Horrible customer service experience where she refused to help me retrieve my funds that I earned. I had Transaction ID and Reference number but she did not listen to me.

I am still very upset over the lack of care this bank had for me.

Please avoid this bank and their thieves!

HORRRIBLE!

Why is this company even aloud to be operating? This company don't deserve not even a one-star rating! I needed to purchase 2 prepaid gift cards for my children's field trip. I went to a local grocery store thinking it is just a regular gift card. This company is horrible forcing people to open checking accounts. When you are activating a card, it asks you for your social security information and it will not allow you to activate the card unless you do so and when you do it they automatically open a checking account for you and send you a debit card. I was not even aware of that until I finished activating the card. Then they state that a fee is applied of $1.50 for every debit card transaction. The card was used as regular gift card transaction as credit, but it charged $1.50 for each transaction!
I hope someone shuts down this scammer company!
