My boyfriend, a long-time customer, was unfairly charged €360 after a rental because they claimed he hadn't parked the car in the correct location. This charge appeared 1 to 2 months later, when he no longer remembered every detail but he was absolutely certain he had followed all procedures. Without any prior notice, they took the money from his card.

When he demanded proof (photos, geolocation, ANYTHING), they refused to provide it, saying they were "unable to find it." Clearly, they knew they were in the wrong, so they tried to buy him off with a pathetic €60 "gift" to use on their platform.

When he finally attempted to use this so-called "gift," they gave him a broken car that wouldn't even open After wasting 20 minutes on the phone, their only solution was to tell him to cancel the reservation and book a new one himself No help, no service, nothing.

He booked another car 150 meters away but their USELESS APP sent him to a vehicle 2 km away Completely unacceptable He had to cancel again, ruining our plans because of their incompetence.

To make things worse, they blocked €600 from his card as insurance for two bookings that he NEVER EVEN GOT TO USE ALL BECAUSE OF THEIR FAILURE

This company is a complete disaster DO NOT TRUST THEM Their customer service is nonexistent their app is broken and their business model is a FAILURE Avoid at all costs

Beware! Your biggest fear around conducting self check-ins will become reality.

I checked-in at night, in a dark place, and unfortunately missed some normal wear and tear scratches in the photos I took. I was eventually charged 400 EUR by an ill-intentioned car owner who seized the opportunity of one blurry picture to charge me for some damages that had gone reported.

Worse, Getaround did not even question those claims. This despite that 2/3 of all the claims made by the rogue car owner turned out to be false (as, thankfully, they were visible in the check-in report).

Dealing with Getaround is akin to dealing with a dishonest car rental company, leaving you entirely at the mercy of rogue car owners who will try to squeeze every penny out of you.

Hopeless
August 4, 2023

I hired a van for 3 hours, I installed the app but when I found the van inconveniently hidden around a corner in a remote Oslo street, the app informed me that "booking has expired" and naturally we had no possibility of opening the van and we had to leave it where it was.
Attempts to contact an actual human being were hopeless. We were sent round in circles.
This firm is untrustworthy. Do not waste your time

DO NOT USE THIS APP

I had a horrible experience with this service. All started out ok but then they add fees to everything. WATCH OUT each time you go through a toll you will have to pay 2.50 on top of the toll fee. They will charge you $50 if you part the car 1 block away from where it needs to be even if you explain that there was absolutely no parking anywhere. What exactly are you supposed to do if there no parking anywhere? DO NOT leave anything in the car. You will never get it back. Sunglasses Goodbye!
You're better off going through enterprise. At the end of it all the amount of money I spent on this "cheap " rental was more then I would have spent at a car rental place.
Do not use it! You'll be very disappointed.

Claims are really dum

First of all they don't have liability insurance so if you get hit by a Getaround car you probably won't get paid. I submitted a possible damage report and the host snd I decided to work it out on our own as it was a very minimal scratch Getaround charged me 1000 dollars anyway that they took out of my checking. The claims guy has said they were going to investigate but neither I or my host was asked any questions at one point the customer service seemed to think the car was on the body shop wile it was actually being rented. Taking time to take it to the body shop would probably cost rides and the host would loose money even with a pay out. I have had my account blocked for 24 hrs like I'm being punished and for some reason I can't get a response from anyone who can do anything. My account was overdrawn, there are a 1000 one star reviews on Yelp as well. I should have looked here

Rented me a vehicle without proper rental documents for Uber. Told me to return the vehicle for a full refund. Here we are four days later and no refund. They then asked me for supporting documents to which I sent immediately and still they're refusing to honor their contract.

Owner Claims

Getaround/Hyrecar is the absolute worse in taking care of their car owners. I am now 4 months out from a total loss that happened@ the 1st of Oct. And they still don't have a date for payout to my lender. Currently I am $2500.00 in the hole with monthly payments and have lost roughly $8,000.00 in potential earnings. This is completely unacceptable and would not recommend anyone to utilize their platform.

I had a minor accident. I pretty sure the other party hit me. I could be wrong, but they were in my blind spot. They got a minor scrape and the car I was in was dented. You can't actually call Getaround, which made it a nightmare. They will call you sort of if you put in a claim right there. I uploaded pics and info. It them several days, each time I tried to ask a question get some information they had to open a new incident report, and this was all through email, because chat didn't work, and as I said no phone. Finally managed to get someone to listen through chat. But before a claims adjuster even spoke to me or did anything,they billed my card over 900. I get the basic insurance might not cover anything, but they should wait until after I get the paper work until claims has looked at the cars and decided fault. I can look at things, etc. I didn't authorize them to do that.

I have been using this company for five years to rent out my car, until I just stopped wanting to risk it anymore.

They will absolutely leave you alone with any and every problem, both as a car owner and a renter. Their support quality is atrocious. There is competitors like gomore, which I have yet to have a bad experience with, so there is absolutely no reason to keep using getaround.

The stories that I have both experienced myself and heard from others were just too much. Do not risk it.

I have posted 3 vehicles and have it rented about 15 times in the period of 45 and is been 45 days today calling every day and sending emails and still don't get paid. Nobody there knows anything about solving the problem.
And be carefull if someone smoke in the car, because they will need a video of the renter smoking inside of the car to pay you, because I had sent pictures of the ashes let all over the car and they said is not enough proof. And when car is dirty or extremely dirty they will pay you a ridiculous $10 to clear de car.

I booked a trip yesterday and the owner of the car immediately texted me saying that their battery was dead. I booked a new trip. I show up at the time of my rental and the car won't unlock. I finally get through to support after like 20 minutes and she says the battery is dead. She said that Getacar would pay for an uber to get me to a new car, but she said I'd have to book it and it was pouring rain and I couldn't type into my phone without ruining it. I was also late to my destination at that point. Never using this service again.

Cars from Getaround are unsafe and dangerous (read my story below) be careful! Use the app Turo which is 1000 times better.

I rented a car for a weekend trip. The car looked new on the app's photos but was instead a piece of trash with scratches all over and stains on the seats (gross).

After 2 hours of driving on the highway, it got dark and I found out that the car had both front and back lights not working! This was extremely dangerous and it's a miracle that I didn't end up in an accident hit by some other car that did not see me. Driving a vehicle in that state is unsafe and also illegal.

I had to drive the car back the following day in daylight. When I asked for a refund… they charged me a late return fee. Be safe, and avoid Getaround!

I went to book a rental and as soon as scan my license, it says suspended and when I contact support, they say they needed to verify me manually which is what the suspension was for. Upon providing a picture of myself holding my license, they denied me. The support person tells me that they can't release details about their verification process for security reasons which makes zero sense. I will be contacting my attorney and filing a suit if I find there is discrimination involved.

Don't use. Untrustworthy and sneaky. Have taken £95 straight out of my account for a parking fine issued after my rental period. I picked the car up and dropped it off in exactly the same space it was provided to me in.

Also the car was dirty, scratched on every panel and old. Use Zipcar or Sixt, better customer service and better cars.

The owner didn't put any instructions on where to leave the car. So I left it where I picked it up from, as any normal person would do. You should be charging the previous customer who made the mistake not me! Customer service has been entirely unhelpful, keep saying I should have parked it where the owner said, and the owner didn't leave any information. Joke of a policy.

Getaround users beware: cars you reserve are frequently NOT there when you arrive and, despite company's no smoking policy, often reek of pot, cigarettes, cigars or even all three. Want help from customer service? Good luck!

We have consistently had three cars from the same person parked on our street without moving and taking up parking for residents in a busy area. Will probably lead to permit parking. Not good for Portland.

Stolen $800

This is the most evil company I've ever seen. Their customer service is so defensive and bad and opaque, that it feels designed to steal money from people. Apparently there was an issue with the car being broken into and stolen after I dropped it off, and instead of calling me or providing any sort of customer support line, they simply charged me $800 on my credit card without authorization. For a key!

If your auto is cooling its heels parked much of the time, you might want to help it pay its way by renting it out. Getaround brings local car owners together with local car-deprived, for an hourly or longer fee that includes insurance. You can register your car with brief information and a photo.

I was out of town for 5 weeks. Put my car on Getaround to offset parking garage costs. During this time, about 8 people rented my car. Come back to car scratched heavily in front and side. No driver reported having hit anything. I make a request to Getaround with pictures. They say they have no proof any of the damage happened during a trip by one of the renters. I'm on my own. Made 500 dollars in 5 weeks of renting, and ended up with 2000+ dollars of unclaimed damage on my car. This is a flawed system in its current state if renters can just get away with not reporting damages.

This is the most ridiculous time consuming process, I have spent 3 hours exchanging email with a representative named Mary Joy. I have submitted everything requested and the interrogation continues. I tried renting a car from these people, I spent 2.5 hours the day before the funeral of my family member (which is why I needed the car) only give up and finally find my account was restricted, no notification nothing! Not worth the effort. Id rather deal with a National Car Rental Service dont even mind paying more money!
