My boyfriend, a long-time customer, was unfairly charged €360 after a rental because they claimed he hadn't parked the car in the correct location. This charge appeared 1 to 2 months later, when he no longer remembered every detail but he was absolutely certain he had followed all procedures. Without any prior notice, they took the money from his card.
When he demanded proof (photos, geolocation, ANYTHING), they refused to provide it, saying they were "unable to find it." Clearly, they knew they were in the wrong, so they tried to buy him off with a pathetic €60 "gift" to use on their platform.
When he finally attempted to use this so-called "gift," they gave him a broken car that wouldn't even open After wasting 20 minutes on the phone, their only solution was to tell him to cancel the reservation and book a new one himself No help, no service, nothing.
He booked another car 150 meters away but their USELESS APP sent him to a vehicle 2 km away Completely unacceptable He had to cancel again, ruining our plans because of their incompetence.
To make things worse, they blocked €600 from his card as insurance for two bookings that he NEVER EVEN GOT TO USE ALL BECAUSE OF THEIR FAILURE
This company is a complete disaster DO NOT TRUST THEM Their customer service is nonexistent their app is broken and their business model is a FAILURE Avoid at all costs
I have been using this company for five years to rent out my car, until I just stopped wanting to risk it anymore.
They will absolutely leave you alone with any and every problem, both as a car owner and a renter. Their support quality is atrocious. There is competitors like gomore, which I have yet to have a bad experience with, so there is absolutely no reason to keep using getaround.
The stories that I have both experienced myself and heard from others were just too much. Do not risk it.
Rented me a vehicle without proper rental documents for Uber. Told me to return the vehicle for a full refund. Here we are four days later and no refund. They then asked me for supporting documents to which I sent immediately and still they're refusing to honor their contract.
Getaround/Hyrecar is the absolute worse in taking care of their car owners. I am now 4 months out from a total loss that happened@ the 1st of Oct. And they still don't have a date for payout to my lender. Currently I am $2500.00 in the hole with monthly payments and have lost roughly $8,000.00 in potential earnings. This is completely unacceptable and would not recommend anyone to utilize their platform.
I'm in Honolulu during peak season, between Christmas and New Year's. The host cancels ONE HOUR before I go to get the car, and customer service calls us to inform of this news. There is not one single other Getaround car available for the times we need it on the entire island of Oahu. They say the best they can do is a refund. I'm stuck without a car and have all these plans booked around the island. This is a horrible company, and my 3rd horrible experience with them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS TO AVOID SPOILING YOUR VACATION.
I rented a car with Getaround for ONE DAY, a 12 hour rental. I originally booked it for 11 hours, but there was so much traffic on the way back that I had to extend it (which cost $27 for an hour). The original 11 hour booking was $140, plus $27 for the 1 hr extension, PLUS $38 for tolls (they charge $2.50 for each toll incurred, even if the toll is just 50 cents). So a 12 hour rental was $205, not including gas that I had to pay. The deposit was $4000 which hasn't come back on my credit card, even though it's been 7 days. They claim it comes back in 7-10 business days– I honestly don't see how this is financially feasible for most people, especially since the deposit comes back soooo slowly.
The crappy car I rented also had the side view mirror completely knocked off when I arrived to get it. The car smelled inside. My other friend who rented a Getaround, her car's trunk didn't even lock properly so she wasted an hour trying to tie it down with string. The quality of cars isn't monitered so you end up paying diamonds for a lemon.
Tried to use this service on two separate occasions and both started and ended in disaster. The cars were a mess, the dash was lit up like a Christmas tree, and both cars absolutely reeked of weed despite being nonsmoking vehicles. No maintenance is ever done on these cars and the owners just let them be run to the ground. The last car that I had rented had a screw in the tire that I had to pay to get replaced because I "didn't document it thoroughly enough during the initial inspection." The only reason that we didn't notice when we took off was that every single tire had low tire pressure and there were a dozen other issues shown on the dash. Not to mention, this wasn't even the car we rented. I was called less than an hour before the rental and informed that the original car isn't available anymore. Literally in the airport about to leave to pick up the car. The customer support was awful, unhelpful, and straight up rude through the whole process. Instead of giving an upgrade or some compensation, I ended up with a worse car and having to pay $200 for a new tire. Same goes for when I tried to pick up and drop off the car. After finding out the neighborhood needed a gate code, I tried to reach out to the owner with no luck so I called their support who basically just called me a liar and said no code was needed while I sat in front of the gate in my Uber. Worst company I have EVER had the displeasure of dealing with. They should be shut down.
I had a minor accident. I pretty sure the other party hit me. I could be wrong, but they were in my blind spot. They got a minor scrape and the car I was in was dented. You can't actually call Getaround, which made it a nightmare. They will call you sort of if you put in a claim right there. I uploaded pics and info. It them several days, each time I tried to ask a question get some information they had to open a new incident report, and this was all through email, because chat didn't work, and as I said no phone. Finally managed to get someone to listen through chat. But before a claims adjuster even spoke to me or did anything,they billed my card over 900. I get the basic insurance might not cover anything, but they should wait until after I get the paper work until claims has looked at the cars and decided fault. I can look at things, etc. I didn't authorize them to do that.
They said my total was $406 they charged me $2450, but my bank denied it because it looked shady. DO NOT USE GETAROUND, they are a whole pack of bull
Getaround is hands down one of the worst car rental services I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. From start to finish, my experience with Getaround was an absolute nightmare.
Once I finally managed to book a car, I thought the worst was behind me, but I was sorely mistaken. The condition of the vehicle I rented was abysmal. It was dirty, smelled like a wet dog, and had stains on the seats that looked like they had been there for years. I had to spend valuable time cleaning the car myself just to make it somewhat tolerable.
During my rental, I had to deal with a host of mechanical issues. The car was a total lemon, and I feared it might break down at any moment. It's clear that they do not properly maintain their fleet.
To top it off, they claimed 1100 EUR of damage that we did not cause, our lawyer contacted them to dispute this claim and they never replied to his email. We are now pushing forward with our legal action.
In summary, Getaround is a complete disaster. The website is a mess, their customer service is non-existent, the cars are in terrible condition, and their app is an absolute nightmare to deal with. If you value your time, money, and sanity, stay far, far away from Getaround. There are far better car rental options out there.
Worst $#*!ing rental. Fast to take money slow when need to return. Took me more than 600€of $#*!ing deposit and every time they say same $#*!ing $#*! it will be relised today you will get it tommorow. First and last time using that rental app. Not worht one $#*!ing peny
First of all they don't have liability insurance so if you get hit by a Getaround car you probably won't get paid. I submitted a possible damage report and the host snd I decided to work it out on our own as it was a very minimal scratch Getaround charged me 1000 dollars anyway that they took out of my checking. The claims guy has said they were going to investigate but neither I or my host was asked any questions at one point the customer service seemed to think the car was on the body shop wile it was actually being rented. Taking time to take it to the body shop would probably cost rides and the host would loose money even with a pay out. I have had my account blocked for 24 hrs like I'm being punished and for some reason I can't get a response from anyone who can do anything. My account was overdrawn, there are a 1000 one star reviews on Yelp as well. I should have looked here
I have posted 3 vehicles and have it rented about 15 times in the period of 45 and is been 45 days today calling every day and sending emails and still don't get paid. Nobody there knows anything about solving the problem.
And be carefull if someone smoke in the car, because they will need a video of the renter smoking inside of the car to pay you, because I had sent pictures of the ashes let all over the car and they said is not enough proof. And when car is dirty or extremely dirty they will pay you a ridiculous $10 to clear de car.
Can I do ZERO stars? Get Around allowed me to rent a car that was unsafe in several ways. I was using them in an emergency and had no time to pivot. I honestly don't consider myself a tough customer. The car was filthy and even had dried vomit in the passenger side window crease and residue on the door. The low tire alert was on, the key fob didn't work, so I couldn't lock the doors myself. The turn signals blinked inside the car, but once I checked the car's menu, the turn signals and park lights were all out. Not only was it unsafe, but in Chicago, very much prone to tickets and police encounters.
I sent photos and videos to the owner, who never responded to me at all. Not once. I reached out to Getaround, whose rep was nice, and he offered to reimburse a car wash, but hand car washes with attendants are not easy to find in Chicago, so I cleaned it myself so that I could manage my affairs. I have had no follow-up in the last several days. Their cars are priced very high and the level of care for the price is the worst value in the business.
The ease of access to a vehicle was good to have, but not with dried vomit and filth at an enormous price. There's more to it and there are pics and videos. The company needs to raise its standards or get out of the business. Before someone gets hurt. The pics below are just a few.
I hired a van for 3 hours, I installed the app but when I found the van inconveniently hidden around a corner in a remote Oslo street, the app informed me that "booking has expired" and naturally we had no possibility of opening the van and we had to leave it where it was.
Attempts to contact an actual human being were hopeless. We were sent round in circles.
This firm is untrustworthy. Do not waste your time
The car reservation with Getaround France was cancelled without explanation just 48h before, just saying "the car was not avalaible".

I had a horrible experience with this service. All started out ok but then they add fees to everything. WATCH OUT each time you go through a toll you will have to pay 2.50 on top of the toll fee. They will charge you $50 if you part the car 1 block away from where it needs to be even if you explain that there was absolutely no parking anywhere. What exactly are you supposed to do if there no parking anywhere? DO NOT leave anything in the car. You will never get it back. Sunglasses Goodbye!
You're better off going through enterprise. At the end of it all the amount of money I spent on this "cheap " rental was more then I would have spent at a car rental place.
Do not use it! You'll be very disappointed.

I checked-in at night, in a dark place, and unfortunately missed some normal wear and tear scratches in the photos I took. I was eventually charged 400 EUR by an ill-intentioned car owner who seized the opportunity of one blurry picture to charge me for some damages that had gone reported.
Worse, Getaround did not even question those claims. This despite that 2/3 of all the claims made by the rogue car owner turned out to be false (as, thankfully, they were visible in the check-in report).
Dealing with Getaround is akin to dealing with a dishonest car rental company, leaving you entirely at the mercy of rogue car owners who will try to squeeze every penny out of you.
I booked a trip yesterday and the owner of the car immediately texted me saying that their battery was dead. I booked a new trip. I show up at the time of my rental and the car won't unlock. I finally get through to support after like 20 minutes and she says the battery is dead. She said that Getacar would pay for an uber to get me to a new car, but she said I'd have to book it and it was pouring rain and I couldn't type into my phone without ruining it. I was also late to my destination at that point. Never using this service again.
AS AN Experienced HOST... I would stay FAR FAR away from this platform. I almost lost my job because a GETAROUND made a mistake and either forgot or made an error with a ride cancellation I requested (you have to call to cancel- ridiculous). The driver came and found my car at my workplace and caused havoc when they found out the car was not available. Way too much liability -- someone can find and pick up your car within 15 minutes of booking, any time of day of night? What happens if it gets damaged with no photo evidence prior to the trip? GOOD LUCK
Answer: It's a scam, they are super quick to let you join, but once you're in you will be penalized for things you didn't do. They take as much money as they can, then they don't even reply anymore.
Answer: God no, they will rip you off bad and fee you for everything.
