I'm a penny pincher. So when they asked for the $15 for state taxes before even seeing my return, I was optimistic. Doing my taxes prior or turbo getting an idea i heard this was better, only for them to tell me i owed my state over $1300. At this time obviously incorrect and a waste of $15. Also they have no customer support number.

Not everyone uses a 1095A! Some people use 1095B. Or 1095C. Because of their incompetent tax tool theres NO OPTION! I have repeatedly tried to file using their scrappy software only to be rejected by the IRS over 4X's! I went to H&R block who also is free to file and they gave 1095 options unlike this scrappy service offered by freetaxusa! Last year IRS corrected returns without people having to file an amendment. No worries but not mine because I used freetaxusa who refused to put my DD info on my return because FTUSA decided I didnt need it on my tax return! Highly NOT recommend!

I used them to prepare a prior year return. They were easy to use, but for some reason they couldn't find my credit union by name. Of course tax forms require a lot of private info, including financial information, such as the name of that credit union. That same day someone tried unsuccessfully to login to my credit union account. I can't prove they were involved. But maybe.
In retrospect, their site has some bad online reviews, including at your site.

They added a credit to my to my tax that I knew was not right, then they charged me $20. Plus to stringhten it out for me, The IRS just told me, after 45 minutes waiting, I was correct!

I did my return in Turbo Tax but Turbo Tax wouldn't efile it because it was past Oct 15,2021. IRS says they are accepting efiles through November. I looked for hours. This site accepts them through Oct 20,2021. I needed efiling so I can update my tax filing for student loan recertification otherwise payments will go up to over $1000 per month and I don't have that kind of money. If you mail in the return, it may take months for your records to get updated to the other agencies.
Please be legit. And I am getting a refund. If your aren't then... Winter is coming.
Hi! We're glad you found us! Yes, the IRS is allowing returns to be e-filed through October 20th. After that time, the e-file season is closed for 2020 tax returns as required by the IRS.

Free tax usa had me spending about 2 hours submitting info for e-file. Then it shows me a pop-up stating: " great, we found no issues with your return" so then I pay with credit card. After payment they say they need more info before it can be filed. They want some stupid pin from 2 years ago when I filed through a third party. So because I no longer can get this info from 2 years ago they say my return can't be e-filed! Well I paid to have it e-filed! I am not getting what I paid for/ what was promised to me. This also happened to 3 other people I know! FREE tax USA IS A SCAM! SCAMMM! SCAMM!

I filed my tax returns on May 1st, and because I was filing as married filing separately, I had to mail my tax returns in. But it's interesting because my husband also used FreeTaxUSA to file his returns as married filing separately, but he was able to file electronically and has already received his refund. But that's not my issue. My issue is once I filed my returns, my federal tax return documentation noted that I had to mail my paperwork to the IRS in Fresno which I did on May 3rd. Over the past 2 months, I've been checking my refund status and it always comes back unavailable. So I go back to FreeTaxUSA's website and the mailing address for the federal tax returns now shows a Utah address for the IRS which is not what was on my original paperwork. I still have the pdf to prove it. When I messaged FreeTaxUSA, I was told the Utah address was always listed and that they didn't know where I got the Fresno address from. That is a lie! He also told me to mail out my tax documents again to the new address! This is the worst customer service, especially in a time when people are being hit hard because of COVID. I will never file with FreeTaxUSA again!

The IRS has been behind in processing certain returns and refunds this year, which is most likely why you see the status as unavailable when you check the IRS site. You can be assured that they are working to process your refund as quickly as possible. Depending on what state you live in, the IRS instructions do have you mail your returns to an address in Fresno if you mail in the returns before June 19. However, the address to mail in the returns starting on June 19 does change to an address in Utah. Our software has been updated to reflect that change in case you hadn't yet mailed in your returns. However, the returns you mailed in during May this year will still be processed at the Fresno address, since you mailed them before June 19. Again, we apologize for the confusion and will make sure our agents are aware of the address change.

The return was free and all, but then when I needed help they were not helpful at all. All I got was "did you call the irs?" "Sorry we don't know" it's been 90 days and I'm about to be evicted in a couple weeks, with no answers. The IRS said they don't have the return but FreeTaxUSA they can't do anything even tho they are the only ones who say the IRS has the return. I haven't had problems in the past but they didn't have some helpful amazing customer service like they advertise.

I just used it for the second time and I find it so easy to use. In part because anytime youi've got a question you can just click and get an explanation. I've been using this software for the past 2 years without an issue. Federal filing is free and state filing is $14.99 that's a great deal and pretty cheap. I paid with my debit card and I usually receive my refund through direct deposit within 2- 2 1/2 weeks. I'm reading these reviews from everyone else and I'm unsure why everyone is complaining about a fee that's so darn cheap! I've used other services like HR Block and Jackson Hewitt and they always take at least $200+ out of my refund as payment. Free Tax USA is a walk in the park. You guys need to relax. It's a $14.99 fee not a million dollars

For a year of pandemic and relief packages Free Tax USA makes it hard. You have to pay 14.99 before you can even file an amended return when tax services such as H&R and turbo tax (which are way more advanced in software) are free! Who the hell wants unlimited amended tax returns? We just want to file so we can get our damn money! I definitely will be going elsewhere to file my taxes next year!

I have used Freetaxusa for many years. We use the service and pay for at least 3 returns each year for at least the past 5 years. I've never really had and issue. This year is different. I had to file an ammendment for both state and federal. Its not until after you have paid that they tell you the 14.99 they charge does not allow you to efile state. So you still have to print and mail your return. They know the State you are amending so it really should alert you beforehand. If I knew I'd have to pay for ink, paper, envelope, stamp etc. I'd of just printed the form, filled it out myself and mailed it. I was paying for the convenience. So much for that. Contacted customer care and no response yet.
Hello Michelle. Prior to 2020, the IRS and all states did not have the option to e-file amendments. The ability to e-file an amendment is new this year and many states are not setup to do this yet. We anticipate that we’ll support all states that allow e-filed amendments in the future as they allow this option. Unfortunately, since your tax refund comes directly from the IRS, FreeTaxUSA has no control over how long it takes the IRS to send your refund. Once a tax return has been accepted, we do not receive any further information from the IRS regarding your tax return or tax refund.
However, a common complaint this year is that the IRS is processing and sending refunds slower than normal. I recommend that you continue to track the status of your refund, please go to the IRS website (www.irs.gov) and click on the "Get Your Refund Status" link. You can also call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or 1-800-829-1954.

Answer: Hi Janet, sorry for any confusion. The $12.95 fee is for state tax return preparation whether the tax return is e-filed or printed and mailed. In regard to your difficulty paying. When you make a debit or credit card purchase online, the card processor checks with your bank or credit card issuer to first make sure you have enough available credit to complete the purchase. The card processor then makes sure the other information you input (for instance, your address) matches what your bank has on record. If all is well, the transaction is processed. If not, such as an address that doesnt match, then the transaction is declined. If you were having difficulty with each card, I would recommend double checking the billing information you entered on FreeTaxUSA. If thats all correct, I would contact your bank and make sure the information they have on file is up-to-date. However, if you choose to mail your return on the Filing Method screen found under the Filing menu, our software will tell you how/where to mail your return. If you don't have a printer and would like to order a printed copy, you can do that on the Order Products and Services screen found in the same menu.
