The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

I did not have enough items for a full estate sale so the EBTH representative recommended that I try their drop off day service. I dropped off 5 items for sale. The gentleman at the warehouse was professional and patiently answered all of my questions about the drop off day process. My items were for sale on the site within 30 days. Throughout the process, I received email updates at each step. I thought this was great. After the sale was over I received a check within 30 days. The process was easy and profitable for me. If I find something worth selling in the future I wouldn't hesitate to use EBTH again.
Can't stop watching, bidding and buying!
This site always has so many different and unique items. So far all of my buying experiences have been great. I love the extended bidding, it keeps someone from swooping in at the last minute and beating you with a $1 increase.
I would sell with this company in a heartbeat. 3-5 higher revenue in a sale than a traditional estate. Amazing customer service. Amazing sales team! Keep it up, EBTH!
I have been a true believer in this company and spent thousands of dollars until now! I placed a bid on some art deco tile pieces with an intended max bid under $100. I received notification that I won the tile for $500! When I called to question I was told that my max bid was over $6k. It is clear that this was a mistake at best and fraud at worsed. I tried working with customer service offering to pay a fair price, asking them to contact the seller, asking to speak with someone in authority, asking if they would contact the other bidder (who appears to have been running the price up), etc... Despite all my attempts to resolve and the fact that I have been a loyal customer all my attempts at resolution were denied. Buyer Beware!
I am a stuff person. I like cool and unique stuff. This is an ESTATE SALE Company and I am a fan. I have purchased art (cheap and expensive), furniture, sports memorabilia, and WWII items among other things from this site. I would like to explain my experience because this company is amazing. I don't even bother with traditional Estate Sales. I SPEND TOO MUCH! Always something new and new markets seem to be added regularly. (Would love to see a list of coming soon markets). Some cool things about the site: 1) You can't lose a item because someone snipes the bid at the last minute like other auction sites. The site gives you a chance by extending the time by 5 minutes; like a live auction 2) Shipping can be pricey but the calculator is there to avoid surprises. I was going to pay $600 to ship a piece from Texas. But I was willing to pay $800 plus shipping. It was a $5000 item. (sometimes shipping is a bit slow) I love that I can shop estate sales all over the country! 3) The descriptions and photos are amazing. The pictures even show the defects. I would suggest, read the FAQ's. This is a second hand market site. EBTH sells estate items. This is not a big box. Com retailer. 4) There new distribution center model is incredible... lower shipping! I have many friends that love this site and I am glad they introduced me. No idea where these reviews are coming from. (Cited from: https://www.antiquers.com/threads/is-everything-but-the-house-ebth-com-legitimate.4870/page-5)
They charged me $60 to ship a 8x10 20 miles! I won the picture for $9 and then my card was automatically charged and the product was shipped. Don't shop unless you're willing to pay a crazy amount to ship.
I spent 9 months looking for a bouillotte floor lamp for my living room. I found a beautiful cast brass 6-way lamp with a marble base which was apparently unbranded. It looked to be a good quality lamp, so I bid on it. When the exorbitant shipping cost increased by $14 during the auction, I called Customer Service. They couldn't figure out why it went up, but agreed to honor the original quote should I win the auction. I was instructed to call back when I won. I did win the auction for $27 and was thrilled that I got it for such a good price, as the shipping was $158. But I can't complain since my whole cost would be $185. Unfortunately, expensive shipping doesn't necessarily mean careful, quality shipping. In this case it meant slow, and poorly packed. When I hadn't received the lamp two weeks after I paid, I called Customer Service again and was told that the lamp would ship by the close of business the next day. It actually took three more days. When I was finally able to track the two packages, the shade was on its way, but the lamp was returned to sender. I called Customer Service again, and was told that the lamp was damaged beyond repair. I requested a copy of the photo showing the damage. The upper socket was broken and one of the candle arms was broken. I was given a prompt refund and a $25 gift card to partially compensate me for my disappointment. I was also told I could keep the shade. I wish it had been damaged rather than the lamp. I can easily get another lampshade, but bouillotte floor lamps are really rare! I was even more upset when I unwrapped the shade, as it was marked Frederick Cooper! So I apparently lost out on a valuable Frederick Cooper lamp. I will probably give them another chance if I find something really great, especially since I have $25 to spend. Since items don't appear to be as well described as on ebay, you could get a deal if something turns out to have an unspotted label. But you are also at a disadvantage since you don't have the ability to ask any questions of the seller.
I have won items that needed to be shipped and items for local pickup.
For the shipped items: One invoice was for 1 lot and sent quickly and very well packaged. The second was for 2 lots. One lot was sent quickly the other never arrived. Many calls to customer service ( while not helpful, they were pleasant) a box appeared on my doorstep. Two items that did not belong to my order. I immediately called customer service to let them know. They said they would contact the warehouse and send out a return label. They did not contact me back for 3 weeks on that item (somebody else must have been calling them looking for those items) Never did receive the second part of the lot that I won, but after numerous calls, they did credit my account.
Pickup items: Three at the home and once at the warehouse.
The warehouse pick up was pretty organized. I had bought quite a few lots and each lot was in a box ( we had to empty the box at our vehicle and return the box) and my entire invoice was in 1 place.
Home pickups were disorganized and items were spread all through the house, leading to an adult version of a scavenger hunt. Pick up was between 1 and 6pm. At 5pm they were calling people to come pick up their items and the house was over half full. All of this might be avoided by having more time between the end of the auction and the pick up date. For all 3 home pickups the auction ended the evening before the date of pick up.
I did overhear one of the employees telling a customer that he had been bidding against her. Not ethical, and it has soured me on dealing with this company. I do not know if this was an isolated incident, or a regular way to drive up bids.
Employees seem young and inexperienced, but for the most part are pleasant and try to help.
Their site states that they will ship an item within 10 business days. It is now past that time and when I've called in, all the customer service rep's say is that they will call me back (and they haven't; it's been 6 days already) or they can tell in the computer that the item has a shipping number assigned to it, but that they do not know why it has not been shipped out yet. Nothing I can do, the rep says, but to call back again.
They say If you have a problem call customer service. So I did... about a dozen calls later. And 20 minutes before the people who purchased the items on Ebth were to start arriving at my home, I told the representative at my home that unless they were willing to pay the percentage agreed on then there were going to be some very unhappy buyers arriving at my home, only to be told that ebth had cheated me and they cannot have their items. Ebth then agreed to give me the amount they owed. It was a One thousand $ difference. IIt would seem to me that the customer service did an outstanding job wasting my valuable time, Lying to me that they were working on getting a resolution. Hoping that they could keep me on the hook until the sale was complete. Which would mean I would have neither the money or my items. Sleazy seems to sum up what kind of organization Ebth is in 1 word.
I have been buying from EBTH since they started their business. My first purchase was actually free- they gave away gift certificates to try their company. Since then, I have purchased multiple items. I have bought paintings valued at thousands of dollars for a few hundred. My collection has grown substantially and will support me when I am old.
I have had one problem with one piece of art. The frame was broken and the glass fell out and broke when I took it out of the box. I received a letter from their customer service within hours of my complaint. I received a full refund for the item plus shipping immediately.
I've read these horrible reviews and I can only say that my experience has been totally different than the 1 star reviews. One complaint that permeates the reviews is hefty shipping costs. I owned an art gallery years ago, and I find the prices that are charged, at least for art, comparable, if not better, than what I paid for shipping in my business.
Kudos... great company!
Absolutely the worst flat out thieves disorganized unbelievable I scheduled an auction in Cleveland. I was misled and lied to through the entire auction lost a lot of money because of these people stay away from these people. They're nothing but a bunch of crooks contacted the upper management got nowhere with resolutions finally stopped returning my calls I'm going to contact attorney possible file a complaint with the attorney general of Ohio do not buy or sell anything from this company they are terrible
I've bought a few items on EBTH over the last year and have been pretty pleased with the items themselves. A point of contention is that the shipping is always higher than what is quoted to you and the packing is iffy depending on the seller. For the last jewelry lot that weighed maybe 8 oz they charged $20 to ship in a small flat rate priority box. Inside everything was jumbled together in a plastic bag... all the necklaces were tangled and two items were broken.
Misleading pictures/text on items--assume it is purposeful. No willingness to amend errors when delivery is not as shown or described. Rude phone employees--very difficult to get ahold of supervisors. Just didn't ship item I purchased at a great deal--said was lost; sent crystal items chipped and 20% smaller than described; ridiculous shipping costs on some items but at least you know about it ahead of time. Biggest fault is their unwillingness to right their wrongs--they basically say tough luck.
This company is in the business of auctioning off people's stuff. Simple enough, right? So you bid just like you would on Ebay, but this company has no written policies such as paying exorbitantly high shipping costs if the item has to be shipped, they don't tell you if you can pick it up that you will get a 4 hour window to pick up and if you aren't able to get there within that timeframe, you forfeit the item! Oh, and how about 3 weeks after you pay for an item, they still haven't shipped it? I could go on, but I think you get it - STAY AWAY! KEEP YOUR MONEY!
Do not do business with this company. I give them zero stars, but the review site made me give one to post. They have, from what I can tell, literally stolen my items. Over three weeks time they made no effort to return calls or listen or locate missing items. Refused to refund full shipping plus the tax they charge on shipping. Said someone would call repeatedly, then no one did. I had to call for 3 solid weeks and they never bothered to look for the missing items. Every time I called they had no answers and I had to explain to a new person what I had gone through. Then finally just tried to say my items were lost, when I told them that was not acceptable, they refused to say they would look further. Sent tracking numbers that did not correspond with item numbers. This had to be explained to 7 different people before it was understood, and they still did nothing. EBTH charges crazy amounts for shipping and then tax the shipping and then lose items and do nothing to make it better. If they are in the business of over charging people for shipping on items won on auction that are their responsibility, that are then paid for in full, they're going to need to do a lot better on customer service and logging. They discriminate against customers who complain and they clearly don't respect the customer. Really horrible how they lie on the phone. Corrupt. Do not do business with EBTH.
Shipping is outrageous. Pickup is difficult. Lower sales price to sellers due to high shipping or high warehouse pickup cost. Customer Beware! Search delivery options carefully before bidding. Delivery options can be different for items within the same auction.

As you can see the bids jumped from $1467 to a bid of $1600 by a new bidder (with a lower member number) who inflated the bid price. I think this site has unmonitored Schillers (people who inflate the bid price and have no intention of purchasing)
Also some of the merchandise appears to be from pawn shops, and are not really part of an estate that belonged to a distinctive home owner.
Two items I saw I won end up, one broken before shipped (really?), one completely disappeared in the won history. (Someone else paid more under the table?) That's on top of one item I saw my winning price was $29 and the previous bidder's highest was $4.
Mixed feelings. Sometimes they ship promptly. But one time their shipper took a month. They're customer response ranges from good to poor.
As other have written there is no rhyme or reason to shipping.
This is a company that may depend on several contract workers across the country outside of Cincinnati.
But there are many glitches in the functioning of their operation. Over 2 weeks before readying an item for shipping is not good. Not responding to customers is bad. Shipping costs which are all over map, especially when paying very high shipping for a shipment that takes a month leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
This is a terrific idea. But I know of buyers and sellers who have decided to not work with this company again. Too much hassle cuts into the potential profit.
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
