The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

I really like the EBTH site, and would bid on and win more items, other than local auctions, if combined shipping on multiple items won. By having to pay the standard shipping rate on each item won makes the total cost prohibitive, so I refuse to bid to win on more than one item from each auction.
I have had opportunity to use EBTH Denver and I could never say enough positive about this auction venue. Everything about the staff is professional and the end results of the sale was wonderful to say the least. The only downside is the percentage on commission but I know what it costs today to do business. All in all they are the best around. I highly recommend them.
I always get compliments on m6 purchases and asked where did you getthat great thing. I will keep getting those great things!
Thank you!
2nd time buyer very satisfied with both experiences. On item was shipped we picked up the other recently in Boston. I have to say very pleased with both transactions. Staff seems to be honest in there descriptions of items.
I have to give high marks to the two gentlemen who were at the Roslindale location, both individuals were exceptional! A compliment to any company.
Thanks,
John
Wow, first I bought a Barometer that was obviously damaged upon arrival but not described in the description or the photographs. They acknowledged the damage and asked for pictures of the box, which had no damage, ( to blame the shipper?). Still waiting for a promised refund/resolution. Then, last night, I place a bid on an item worth $5, the bid was $11, and I bid $12, but it recorded as a bid of $1295. 00! Speaking to them on the phone, they said they can't retract it "because the seller is expecting the money" I bet they are, for a broken worthless clock. Ive bought through auctions for years without an issue. That they can't see the difference between buyers remorse and a technical issue causing a grossly too high bid on an item is frankly criminal.
Apparently one is not able to write a second review of a company without having the prior review deleted.

A 5' x 3' rug currently selling at@$27 has a shipping cost of $120.13. I inquired about this and EBTH said it was valid? Beware, buyers. There are some great bargains here but most of the time the shipping is truly outrageous. BTW this is a small rug!
I purchased a small ceramic box called a Limoges for a gift. The EBTH professional photography hid cracked defects and a glued repair. The lighting made all types of reflections on the item that hid the crack. The write up made no mention of any damage either. It said it was in "Good condition - gentle signs of wear consistent with use ". The item had been broken and glued back together for heavens sake! EBTH said they didn't have to write in the ad that an item was damaged if they had a picture of it. I could not see any damage in their touched up pictures and no one else I showed the pictures could either. EBTH customer service said in one of the 5 pictures "the marketing dept" could see the damage so they were not refunding the money or taking it back for resell. There is no accountabilty. They only use first names. "Margaret" was the last person I spoke to and she was not helpful at all. Would not let me speak to anyone higher. They protect themselves only. Ebay has an easy return policy. Be careful with EBTH...
Easy to use bidding platform, ability to locate many hard to find items, vintage items, luxury items, easy to use app, great customer service, reasonable shipping fees, and well packed deliveries. Items arrive as described.
The shipping charges are unbelievably high. They send items to Blue Ash, OH when i could easily pick it up at the site with my other items. I was going to bid on some vintage stuffed animals until I looked up the shipping costs...$193.00 to ship stuffed animals. If they want to continue to be in business, then the person who is in charge of shipping needs to quit the Self Medication and come back to reality
Tres cool! Very professional from start to finish. Fair and even humorous; a nice group of people, a pleasure to work with.
I'v read some pretty negative reviews about this company and its service. My experience has been fantastic. I find interesting things... and while yes the shipping costs can be more than you would get on Amazon, things are extremely well packaged. This site has allowed me access to some valued antique treasures that I would not be able to obtain elsewhere. Additionally, every time I have contacted EBTH asking a question for for assistance-- I have received exemplary customer service. I have bought jewelry, art, porcelain, silver, books. A whole variety of things. And again-- I have NEVER had a problem. I've been a regular user of this site for over a year-- obtaining things on an almost weekly basis. I obtained a set of Russian Imperial Everyday porcelain dishes from the Tsar's palace dating from the reign of Paul I, and I have obtained a Wedgwood basalt cup and saucer dating from 1780-- one of the earliest in existence. There is no way that I could ever experience these things without EBTH. So as an estate sale purchaser, I love this site and its service. I just wanted to put a good review out there because this group deserves to hear good things and not just bad things about what they are doing.
The merchandise was nicely packaged, arrived in a timely fashion, and met my expectations. This was my second purchase from EBTH and will not be my last.
I contacted the company to auction items that I had and the entire process turned out to be a total farce. I was told I needed at least 100 items to have an auction, I gathered my things, organized them and waited for the sells rep. To come to my home and "evaluate" everything. He informed me that my new and current items were not acceptable for their site and I should put them on Craig's list. What I found more confusing is the items I had for sell were the same or similar items that was on the site. He informed me he would only accept my gold jewelry and some of my art. The site is called " EVERYTHING" but the house, this company must think they are one of the New York auction houses. Also they inflate their shipping cost. I purchased a key ring and was charged over 15.00 dollars for shipping. I had new leather, crystal, designer purses, collectables, instruments and more only to be denied an auction. You need to change the name of your company to ''SOME THINGS IN THE HOUSE, MAYBE"!
It was so disappointing to find out that a "14k gold chain" that I bought from EBTH FOR $500 was a Fake, moreover when I reported the incident to them they asked me how was i so sure it was fake and not real. That is because I was lucky enough that I was traveling to India, where I got it checked and learned I had been cheated. On top of all this, their team had the audacity to tell me that I needed to ship it within 30 days or else it will not be returned at all (I told them that i was going to reach the states in mid march, but they wouldn't listen). Some how I managed to send it back from another country or else would have paid $500 for a piece of copper.
Although they issued a refund, but this kind of service is not acceptable. Moreover they didn't take any responsibility for the money i spent to ship it from India to USA.
Have purchased 2 Atmos 540 Clocks through them. The first they didn't lock the pendulum and it rattled against the glass the whole trip. I reported it as it didn't work. No reimbursement, just send pictures we'll file a complaint about shipping.
So I fixed it, the chain had gotten twisted, and if I didn't know about them it would have cost me $350 to have repaired.
The second poor packaging and they dropped it. Crushed the frame, broke the back and front glass. This time I went to my credit card company and am having them get the money back. It is beyond repair.
What floors me is when I spoke to their customer service they feel they are entitled to keep your money even though you received a totally useless broken item.
Fool me once... NEVER buying through them again.
And their shipping cost are outrageous and it takes a month a half to receive anything.
Stay away!
Last July, I wrote a highly critical review of Everything But The House... and every word was true. To my delight, and that of other bidders, EBTH has changed dramatically.
We gave the company another shot and they delivered again and again. We've purchased multiple items over the past month, with every item delivered a week or less after payment.
For everyone who complains about shipping and taxes, I ask you to look carefully at charges and the associated costs. Taxes charged are your local sales taxes. If they're too high, talk with you local politicians. Since I moved to St. Louis in the late 1990's, our sales tax has gone from just over 6% to just a fraction under 10%. Because of their scope and size, EBTH is required to charge sales tax.
As for shipping costs, most of the time these costs make sense. EBTH uses heavy duty packing boxes, which are expensive, rather than ordinary storage boxes. While more costly, these boxes virtually assure items are not damaged in transit. Are there a few "head scratchers" when it comes to S&H charges? Sure. But for the most part, EBTH's charges are now much more acceptable.
Now for areas that still need improvement:
1. Descriptions. There needs to be more accurate descriptions, particularly on items that require critical measurements, verification of authenticity, etc.
2. Better photography. Photos can be deceptive. All shots should serve as full damage disclosure or proof of reproduction or authenticity.
3. Jewelry shots should show actual scale. Close ups of jewelry can make items seem larger and more impressive than they actually are. Photos need to show accurate detail. Maybe a shot of a necklace on a model's neck, a ring on a finer. Etc.
4. There needs to be more detailed research. I say this as someone who does research for a major sports memorabilia auction service. Research is severely lacking at EBTH. It's an easy fix. It just requires a little time, diligence and care.
Good job, EBTH. You've taken some critical steps to help improve your service. Keep going. The difference has been astounding. Strive for perfection for your customers and they will reward you with they loyalty as well as their hard earned money.

If you go to EBTH's website and read their mission statement, you'll learn all you need to know. The mission statement talks only of the company's goal of becoming the top estate sale auction site in the world and EBTH's commitment to their sellers. Not a single mention is made of the consumers who purchase items or meeting the wants and needs of people who buy items on the site.
I've purchased numerous items from EBTH, but my latest purchase (a great deal on an ultra nice Breitling watch) will probably be my last. That's because EBTH demand payment almost immediately. But once they have your money, they'll "do their best" to ship your item in 10 business days. That's two weeks to process and ship after payment, providing their are no holidays... then the processing time usually extends to three weeks or more.
In today's quick ship, immediate gratification world, EBTH's "we don't care about the buyer" mentality is simply unacceptable. Plus, their shippers often do a very poor job of packing. We've had multiple items arrived damaged due to improper packing.
Bottom line, this would be an amazing service if they placed on equal focus on buyers as well as sellers. By ignoring the buyer in their corporate mission, it's clear that these folks are all about the money. They make a 30% commission on everything they sell. So it's grab the money, pay the consignors and then we'll get to the buyers when we have time.
As for other comments people have made about extended bidding, etc., that's the way the auction world works, online. Granted, EBTH has some serious technical glitches from time-to-time, particularly if you're using Safari, but at the end of the day, if you're willing to go treasure hunting, get a good deal here or there, then wait forever to get your prize, EBTH is a reasonable site. Don't expect any type of service whatsoever. EBTH's staffers are incredibly polite, but they cannot vary from policy. So if you need some special help or want expedited service, you're attempting to toss the ol' snowball through Hell. It's not going to happen.
Personally, I'm tired of the "we don't care, we don't have to" attitude and the long waits for merchandise. There are other sites out there that genuinely care and work with their buyers as well as their consignors.
I rarely write reviews, but feel I need to warn others. I purchased several sets of draperies from the same location. When I initially searched, they were about 1 1/2 hours away and felt good about driving to pick them up. I ended up purchasing eight sets of draperies. They charged an average of $22. Each for shipping, a total of over $175.00. I contacted them to see if they would ship them together to save on the shipping charges, or let me pick them up in either Indiana or Ohio at one of their distribution centers (I am in Kentucky). They said NO WAY. These are all light weight - and the shipping charges should be much less. They could only ship because that was the sellers preference. I told them if the seller knew you were overcharging for the shipping, I was sure they would reconsider. They would not. This was a very frustrating experience to me, I will NEVER use them again.
I reported them to BBB. Beware - they will not work with the customer at all.
Be very, very careful with these people. Their shipping costs and mysterious sales taxes are not even close to being fair. It is such a shame because this could be fun. They consistently make errors and charge at least triple at times. I would urge you to stay far away.
I purchased a small diamond ring of while gold. It's just as described and was shipped immediately after the auction ended. It was a good value and I love it.
Amazing website. So many beautiful things. My first purchase was flawless. Can not wait to shop again.
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
