If you're using Firefox there are themes you can install with the Stylish add-on to make DDG look exactly like Google. We all hate change and prefer the familiar so this helps make the transition easier. My main complaint is the mouse rollover effect where each search result changes color when the mouse is near it is very annoying and makes keyboard scrolling awkward. There should be an option to turn this off. The other thing is that each search result does not have enough of a description or include any available dates to inform me if this is something relevant and recent I want to click on. All the search descriptions only extend out to a quarter of the page where google extends halfway giving more info. I don't want to be forced to click on each search result to see if it's what I'm looking for.
I like DDG and would use it full time if these issues were fixed. I'm completely fed up with Google's intrusive stalking and data mining. I don't want every search I've ever made in my lifetime stored for eternity.
Reviewers talking about DDG hijacking their browsers is just plain rubbish. It sounds like they are newbie computer users with no technical skills and got themselves some malware, or they are trolls. DDG doesn't require any installation or download so how could your browser get hijacked?
The search engine promotes companies from the USA and UK, it is especially visible in law firms. You will not find the rest of the results in it. Poor product and I thought Google was a poor product.
Using DuckDuckGo in Chrome as my default and I have gmail and my only email. I was doing great and then I started having errors getting to sights. I started seeing people complain that DuckDuckGo was the problem but, I could copy the link from my email and go outside of Gmail to Chrome with DuckDuckGo and paste and it worked. Changed default search engine and it worked. Moved over to Foxfire with DuckDuckGo as default and Gmail and the link worked. Moved over to Edge and the Gmail with DuckDuckGo as the default and the link worked. Now the link https://www.pollking.com/. To Google a very "LIBERAL" it privately owned til 2004 then went public but it is still very controlled by Liberals to this site gets a DuckDuckGo and a "Right" hit. So blame DuckDuckGo, NO I do not as this is a fight back issue as Google tries to maintain it very strong foot hold and say it is a DuckDuckGo problem. When in fact it is a Google Chrome road block.
I force stoped gxxxxe you know, just winged it for a while still had Sccsxxg partner in crime it was terrible looked at the ratings and tryed this app had noe for a minute but it works fine and if I start to go to a bad site it warns me but I can still go I have a choice not being directed like before the other one does it for profit they held the shared control one was in control the other the default so how do you get around that, I will tell you get DuckDuckGo and in a very short time you will find yourself believing the warnings kinda like a budy or a family member. Thanks. DuckDuckGo I am impressed.
DuckDuckGo does not store IP addresses or user information. Google has 114,096 – but often the outcome is the same results as DuckDuckGo which has 78 employees.
Google tries to track your location and does not protect u from hackers unlike duckduckgo. Duckduckgo is the best browser ever, delete all google apps and browsers from your phone immediently.
I started using Duckduckgo a couple years ago as a substitute for Google. It was semi-decent. Nowadays It's just plain awful. 3/4ths of my searches end up with nothing but piles of junk results. Even when I wrap every word in quotes, it completely ignores them. I'll put words in quotes, and most of the results won't even contain the words I entered. Sometimes I'll use the "Find in Page" feature of the browser, type in 1 or more of the words I searched for and the only matches it shows are the ones I put in the search query box. Even I go to one of the pages in the results and search for those key words, they don't exist. Nor is anything on the page even remotely related to what I searched for.
I'm tired of doing searches and constantly coming up with BS. What's the point of searching when it's just going to give you junk more than half the time? As I said. It's just as bad as Google. It seems the only time it gives good results is when you're shopping/looking for a product. To make matters worse, it refuses to show me more than 2 pages of results. I've tried to search for help with that... but you know... search returns crap results. I only found a couple pages that mention this.
I can't stand using DDG or even Google. They both seem to love ignoring quotes and showing me what THEY want me to see and not what I want to see. Smh. I don't know what's with all these positive reviews, because there is nothing positive about it. It's just plain horrible.
Is there anything better and actually"useful" out there when it comes to search engines nowadays? Thinking about searching gives me a headache now.
$#*! you Google! Finally someone is doing something aginst you money driven bastards, destroying people business just for money, auction based little $#*!! $#*! you!
You want to know why the bad reviews you see here? It is very easy to understand last year in june 2015 DDG exceeded 10 million searches in a day. Google and some of the others are seeing that as taking a cut of their profits from selling you out for cash money... lol By all means feed the machine Google didn't get where they are from allowing others to cut into their profits. Even though they are small in comparison to Google they provide a vastly superior service for FREE they don't sell you out track you or abuse power. Out of the bad reviews I really can't put any stock in any of them. Hi jacking your browser... lol what a joke DDG don't install anything on your end. It is a link in your browser and that is all. I run a good AV and it SAYS that DDG is not tracking you and it is a Premium AV and rated among the BEST. Google that is a different story I get several tracking responses there. As well as yahoo, Bing, and most the others as well. Can't uninstall another joke of a remark a 3 year old could uninstall it is so easy! I personally feel they are paid spammers just like AVAST I think they are in bed with the completion. By their own admission on their forums they said they have found nothing wrong with DDG but yet they recommend changing your search engine because it might not be safe.
I want bing I didn't even go to duck duck go and now each time I turn on safari instead of wonderful google I get horid duck duck go that never bring s me to anything useful instead I get uslees info I don't want! If you care about being able to have good research or other things that most of HUMANS do NEVER EVER FOR A MILLION DOLLARS UE DUCK DUCK GO IN YOUR LIFE!
These are either badly written paid-for negative reviews or reviews written by people with really poor, and I mean really really poor basic computer skills.
I have never had an issue with DDG hijacking anything I use - it is installed on all my devices - and I have selectively allowed third party cookies with no issue. No spam email, no hacking, and as the first entry is an ad ( as they say) and it is marked as an ad, I have no real problem scrolling past it.
If your computer was hacked, that sucks, but did you install from Duckduckgo or a third party. Is your firewall up to date or did you turn it off to install something? Are you just really crap at keeping you computer secure and forget that it is your responsibility, not the software's, to be up to date?
The quality of the results is better than Google, who, as other reviewers have mentioned, are concentrating on ad revenue rather than quality, and far better than Bing ever was (if you are looking to be paid for writing negative reviews, try Bing, just sayin)
You don't allow any one to track us and you also don't track us and you keep us safe and private thank you DuckDuckGo, you are 1000 times better than google
I tried Duck Duck Go when it first came out and didn't like. I stopped using it. I got sick of Google search when the search answers stood up for the liberals. I would think of something but couldn't remember the details I would google it. If it showed a liberal in a bad light, they would simply not answer it. IF YOU WANT TO SEARCH SOMETHING, GO TO DUCK DUCK GO! It is a great seach engine and will give you ALL the answers; the good, the bad & the ugly for all parties involved. I love it!
Time for you to go now that you are censoring. No free speach here now. You are now as bad as google and favebook for censoring free speach. GOOD BYE
Love the idea behind this: a simple, clean, privacy-driven search engine. Basically what Google USED to be. I hope this takes off.
Better than Google with privacy and without tracking. Any search engine that gives Google less control is a good thing.
Advertised and recommended the scam site viagogo when I searched for tickets.
No way to report scam advertising either.
I would say that DuckDuckGo is a really good choice for a home browser. It is quite like Google, but more safe in my opinion! ;)
It great for privacy but completely stupid when it comes to the search engine I seen a group of monkey's do a better job
DuckDuckGo has a rating of 2.3 stars from 223 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. DuckDuckGo ranks 237th among Search sites.
