I won't rant...
But lets get past the "I can write something that appears anywhere in the world" stuff.
Disqus does massive shadow censorship (log out, check your comment is publically visible) and also has big sync issues. Your comment might not show up for an hour or two.
Whenever you post content. Anywhere. Log out, and check your content is still publically visible.
Hello. After spending time editing a comment over & over before posting it, I soon realized that the comment, as well as many others had not been posted. Instead it was saved in a file attached to my profile and marked as spam. To make matters worse a sentence that read, "Thanks, we'll work on getting this corrected." Was NOT followed up & rectified. After spending hours searching for a solution, there is none in sight. Surprisingly the comments that started this problem was posted on abc.com & I made it known that I support President Trump. Never did I feel that a news website would be bias. I contact the website to fix the problem to no avail, making me very suspicious.
They are probably one of the worse censorship platforms today. They hide behind the bogus "hate speech" argument, using it as a club to hide behind to censor mildly conservative views.
They need to go in front of Congress with ABC News, youTube, Quora, The HIll and a few others. Disgusting. Something needs to be done before they destroy our country.
The newer iteration of this platform is horrible. It flags half of my comments as SPAM. Why? Because when discussing a subject I support my position with quotes from published peer-reviewed studies. These quotes often get repeated and the system thinks it is SPAM. This is a much higher quality level of discussion than is typical, it is absurd to mark it as spam. Do they want the discussions filled with mindless trolling or quality research?
(and the support people do nothing to help me)
Every single time I post, I get marked as spam, and when I send it back for review to have the mark of spam removed, they dont do anything. I just see this next to the comment for weeks "Thanks, we'll work on getting this corrected.".
POS chat software. Do not use!
I comment on a blog that uses them. 2 days with no updates or notifications. Many people have complained at their customer support. Call their number in San Francisco and no answer. I guess I will stop wasting my time commenting at the blog as I receive no feedback.
I was commenting on an article in The Hill, and I was disagreeing with some of the far left comments I was reading. Then suddenly I get a message that says I have been banned on Disqus as an alleged "spam account". I am a private individual making comments on a "news" (propaganda) site, not a spam account. How this decision was arrived at is baffling, except that it is a cover story for censorship.
Well if you go on ABC News & the comment section, you are forced to use Disqus. Clearly, it is Very Left Wing controlled. If you even Try to point out a Republican point of view you will get kicked out. Clearly, you can not cuss or say something alluding to being sexual. But they will kick you out for no reason what so ever for not supporting the left.
I have been trying for about 3 years to comment on Conservative Woman. Constantly rebuffed. Their log in instructions are ambiguous, and my Captcha selections are always wrong. Obviously Disqus sees me as a deplorable little uneducated person
Disqus started censoring "common sense or conservative" posts around 3 years ago. This was the beta test for what we have been seeing over the last 9 months with Twatter and FB censoring people. Stop using these websites, apps or feeds and they will die out just like MySpace.
I've been commenting on news stories for some time. Disqus has some issues with letting vulgar, obscene or comments that call for violence go free. You don't even have to use symbols for vulgarity, the actual swear words are allowed. Moderators are non existant, bullies abound. Really not worth using anymore.
I was permanently blocked from Disqus for making one ironic comment that obviously rubbed someone the wrong way. I am a professional New York playwright, former newspaper reporter, columnist and editor, intelligent commenter with lots of fans and followers, and yet it appears I am no longer able to contribute to some of my favorite political blogs. Who are these people, and who gave them permission to control editorial content? It's embarrassing and infuriating after a long and distinguished career to be censored by some nameless nobody who may not even speak English.
One of the worst possible places for a business to use. They will drive customers from your venue. Far left-leaning, they allow obvious spammers and trolls to run rampant, while choking off any customer who dares to use common English expressions. Whatever is deemed politically correct at the moment figures heavily into their algorithms. They are driven by politics, and their goal is to make any conservative voice extinct. Using this company is the surest way to strangle all free thought, or honest opinions on your website. You will hear only lies, and 70% of your potential customer base will simply erase you, and forget you ever existed. Never use Disqus.
Ever since our local newspaper starting using disqus for comments it is a chore literally to read comments or write comments. The web page keeps refreshing every few seconds and takes forever to reload. After a while you just want to give up. Comments are necessary especially now with decisions being made with regard to COVID19 within our state that effect all of us. This service is freaking horrible.
I respectfully stand by my contention that there is no free speech on Disqus. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. A proclamation by the pigs who control the government in the novel Animal Farm, by George Orwell. You need to look no further than to my blocking on TMZ for my daring to comment on behalf of O.J. Simpson. Even though my comments involved the reiteration of facts within the public domain. While every other post of his personal vilification was allowed to stand. So their claim that only abusive or ad hominem posts are removed proves the contrary to be true.
What company doesn't have a customer service phone number to call and speak to a human to help resolve ongoing issues?! It doesn't matter how many times I try to explain that the "reply in email" feature is not working, and how many times can "support" reply that I can simply go on-line to approve comments. Step, repeat. Step, repeat. We just keep going around in circles.
I know my title is aggressive, but as a Freelance Photographer & a millennial, I am very good with technology. This site has been so glitchy, unhelpful, and frustrating! I don't know why sites use Disqus for comments on blogs.
Twice now I have had my account blocked because it was recognized as "spam". Nothing I have ever posted resembles advertising or spam. I have noticed that if I make comments that tend to be liberal on political discussion boards someone usually have my posts deleted as offensive, which they aren't. It seems the moderators for this discussion board are just lazy and don't actually read the posts or comments. What's worse is, their "fix" is just get another email address instead of them actually correcting the problem. Just lazy.
Disqus is run by extreme Leftist Moderators that will remove any comments not towing their Leftist ideology. All posts demonizing President Trump, even those using bigoted vile hateful derogatory and vulgar language, are ok. Any factual refutation of spurious Leftist comments is marked as spam and removed.
I see from the other comments that my suspicions are well-founded. This site is controlled by the worst elements of the world. No opinions are permitted which are not in accordance with their agenda of the glorification of degeneracy, debauchery, and depravity. Decent, upright people waste their time with this human vermin.
Answer: I believe our posts get removed and we get banned, even called retards from moderators--of whom you would think would act more like the referee and not the instigator--because each discussion has an agenda. As long as you go along with what everyone else who is still in the discussion is saying, you are fine. However, dare express an alternate opinion--of which you may not even realize you are doing--you are told you are trolling (which means you are purposely writing something meant to cause disruption). Therefore as a troll, your post is removed. If you then ask why your post was deleted, you are now called a retard and are banned from the discussion entirely. And when you become confused as to what just happened for no reason, especially after a moderator who uplifted several of your opinions disagreed with one and simply deleted it, you finally find someone in Disquis management. It is then you are told to take it up with the moderator who banned you or another moderator on the page. You are also told the moderators have free-run to delete anything and ban anyone they want to and that management WILL NOT step in or interfere with a moderator's decision, even if that moderator is belittling you and is cursing at you. Finally, if you decide to appeal to another moderator thinking you will get a rational response, you are told you "threatened" the moderator who banned you because you went to management. Then are you threatened with getting banned completely off of Disquis for life? It's as simple and as ignorant as that!
Answer: Obviously for the majority of reasons sited here! Thanks for the good news!
Answer: This question is not a well formed question. It's about net locations, IP and MAC addresses, logins and emails. You can't force someone to use their name. If such a standard was imposed, people would merely make up fake names. Better to just let them have the random anonymized handles they prefer. Do you know how risky it is to post online with your real identity? There is no limit to data retention with many of these companies online. As the major data brokers continue to consolidate and violate privacy with indefinite data retention, you'll see everything you've ever done online, one day in a central repository of data. In the US we're seeing a beta test roll out of something similar to the chinese people rating programs, taxing dissidents, denying participations of citizens if they don't agree with government, etc. The better question is why can't we be completely anonymous, and why does Disqus need to track and record our IP addresses?
Answer: Disqus is an awful company from kalifornia. They hate free speech
Answer: Because this site is run by a bunch of closed minded left wing liberals. I they do not agree with your posts... you will be blocked.
Disqus has a rating of 1.2 stars from 216 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Disqus most frequently mention free speech, abc news and conservative views. Disqus ranks 496th among Social Network sites.
