I have been on Chess.com for over 10 years. Just recently, I got a well paying job and decided to upgrade to Diamond membership. A day later, my account was closed for 'Fair Play' and money was not refunded. I suspect that it was because I had beaten an NM a week before, but my OTB is 2035 and beating NMs or CMs is not out of the norm for me.
Btw, I have years old accounts on both Lichess and Playchess which have never been banned or accused of cheating.
I play many many games on chess.com and have had an excellent user experience. I have upgraded to diamond membership and love the videos, lessons, tactics and training. I have recommended it to all my chess friends.
My son and I also love the TV content, including the excellent coverage of the Isle of Man tournament in October 2019.
They blast you and harass you with ads til you buy one year premium, then they close your account after 2 months and ask you open another one and get another premium. Hopeless, lowly, sneaky merchants chess.com
Hello Saeid,
Sorry for the trouble. The only reason we would ever close an account is due to violation of our site policies, which may be related to multi-accounting, abusing other players or cheating. Even in such cases we offer the ability to appeal the closure by writing to us at support@chess.com. In the event that an account cannot be reopened, we will always refund any remaining membership credit, since we would never want to charge someone for a service they can't access. That's just not how we do business! Please write to us at support@chess.com and we can assist with your account.
Kind regards,
I signed up for chess.com membership for my son. I have gold membership good until 2021. But my son (who is 6 years old) accidentally clicked platinum membership, now they charged $43.64 and now we have a double membership. There is no credit card needed. I looked up, they did store my credit card and set to auto-renew. When the business set to store your credit card and set to auto-renew, you really want run away from.
Hello Lee,
Please send us an email at support@chess.com and we will correct this membership charge including a refund for the unwanted upgrade. Your son's gold membership must have been upgraded to the platinum level, and the difference in membership prices was charged. Sorry for the confusion! Payment information is saved in Chess.com accounts in order to renew subscriptions in the future, similar to music and film streaming services. We also include in our terms of service that any Chess.com accounts operated by members under the age of 13 must supervised by an adult who is a also a Chess.com account holder. If you write to us we can process your refund and we can ensure that any saved payment information is removed.
Thanks!
Very frustrating system. If you pay, then you will win...
If you pay, your time will NOT run out! So many computerized players, so many cheaters. Moreover when you try to review the profile of your opponent and finds him\her is not fair playing and have many negative comments, then you choose not to start playing, you will be punished as if you lost the game and of course lower your rating. Thanks anyway but your policy is very annoying!
The ios app doesn't even have the report bottom and when you play through the web app and report cheaters, you will never get any response. The game says abort with no penalty but when you do you lose score. People use abusive language and the timer is not synced. I wish there was a way not to give them a single star.
Good afternoon dear Bona,
First of all, our apologies for the inconveniences. We have some good news! We are working on including the report button and it will soon be there. In case you have any issue while this is being done, please do not hesitate to send us an email to support@chess.com with a screenshot, and we will take the necessary steps so as you do not find any abusive users or experiences.
Thank you so much and we remain at your disposal for anything you could need.
All the best,
The Chess.com Team
Look this is the best online site but sometimes the administrators score against you to support paying customers. How? Well they freeze the clock and you can only get out of screen by forfeitiing the game and starting a newe game with a loss of points. On other occasions when you have clearly defeated your opponent they give the warning sound for you to move then you do so BUT they declare the opponent the winner... more points loss. Then they will give you low ranking opponents so you score only few points. Other times they constantly interrupt play and time ticks away... by time screen reappaers they declare you have LOST the game. When they behave fairly with the game PLAYERS experience the best and fairest play ever. A GREAT site generally.
Chess.com has players from Syria, Iran and RUSSIA. They do not discriminate. This works great as long as we are all at peace and the site is NOT being used for other purposes like how to hurt others.
The FIDE has moved to another country after Russians invaded the Ukraine killing babies and here they are playing chess and drinking vodka on OUR Western Site. Chess.com Owners should be ashamed of themselves for harboring terrorists and terrorist states.
They should be but people they are not!/
This is a very immature place and a dangerous one for the free world. Fun chess but very very poor western support against terrorists and creeps like Putin the murderer.
I came to chess.com on 2018, I played on there for two years. Chess.com is a chess website that allows you to play for free. I discovered that chess.com does a lot, and I mean a LOT to force you into premium. Half of the things you get on premium are pretty straight forward with everyone. There are other things that are more hidden. For instance, when I played on chess.com, it fixed me to a system of points where, if you play a lot, the points you gain/lose are decreased. This sounds very unfair to some people who only get 3-4 points after winning a match. Also, chess.com is very slow and laggy, this makes it impossible to play chess quickly. Staff are very rude and impolite at times and they take forever to respond. They are friendly on email, but take that issue to chat and they become hostile.
Horrible.
Chess.com will ban users for no reason and their appeal process is heavily stacked against the user creating an unfair system. The admins on the site suffer from some power trip and ban many users for no reason. Avoid like the plague!
Time keeping is total bull$#*!, seconds are added at the end if games, piece if $#*! site. Fuken frustrating when eg 20sec is in hand and opponents flunctate back when they only have 3 seconds left... $#*!s
User experience:
- Many times, the lag is the cause of you are losing games, specially in rapid games.
- Live support is very bad, the do not know how to respond to your questions. Additionally, if you are a free member, you can make only one question every 60 seconds.
- Transmission of tournaments is poorly made by people that do anything except relay the games.
- Very abusive admins that will kick and ban people for something as small as disagreeing with them. The reviewer called James H. was right.
Ads on the site:
- If you buy a membership other than diamond, you get ads anyway.
- The ads they show are about malware. Do not click on them.
- The ads may crash your browser.
- I blocked the ads and the site showed me static ads telling me to unblock the original ads!
I am a subscribed user of www.chess.com and through this site I met TeeSpring, and I acquired some products, all good, only that I had a problem with my size of the products, and I felt obfuscated, but I communicated my problem and if I could help in some way. The truth that they solved everything to me without some additional cost for me. I recommend them for their seriousness and integrity and be coached in the client.
The general idea of the platform is excellent, lots of tournements, modes of game and grops, but full of cheaters, bad staff who never pay attention to your complains, the matchmaking is one of the worst that i ever used.
There are better sites
This website is rigged, the timing is fixed for members to win, if your opponent is losing they had time, i even record the games sometimes just to study the moves and all you see time is being fixed, i just play for the fun of it lose or win, chesscube is way better than chess.com, my username is spellmyname
I am really sorry to hear that John! One thing I would like to mention is that we do not alter the timing of games. When these things happen, it is all about the internet connection and lag. We have NEVER manipulated games or clocks:)
What we would love to do is speak with you at support@chess.com so as we can make sure this issue is solved and you do not experience any other inconvenience.
At your complete disposal,
The Chess.com Team
It took me 20 minutes to log in because it said there was a error and I needed to refresh the page. Afterwards it told me to wait 10 minutes because I had too many log in attempts. I just wanted to play chess with my daddy uwuwuwuwuuwu I am negative 5 years old. Anyways wuv u mommy
Chess.com is provide the Game for all the person for making their thinking ability. The chess in one of the game for creating the thinking capacity. It is one of the beautiful game. The game should be possible in the chess.com. I have more time to playing that game with my sister. I have so happy to share my experiance to you
Chess.com is scam and full of cheater... you can find cheater on every game...
One game I played with one user with rating 1270. How come he play without blunder, without mistake for 42 move... this is un-realistic... and chess.com are promoting him... bcz he is premium user...
I took the 1 month trial.
As part of this deal I need to "pay" 50$ for a yearly membership, and they promise that they pay it back if you decide you're not interested within the first month. "trial".
I'm trying to cancel this membership and getting my money back, tjough they have no costumer service online, neither a phone number and noone is answering the messages I send.
This is an absolute lie, nerve wrecking. They put so much effort in looking like a legit business, though what they do with the monthly trial is nothing but - STEALING PEOPLE'S MONEY.
Dear Livluv. I am David Kaufmann from Chess.com team. Please, write me at david.kaufmann@chess.com and I will be more than happy to help.
Thanks a lot!

chess.com stills has cheaters in ther mist not only does chess.com have cheaters but chess.com they them selfs have become cheaters by interfering in the games by changing the time of the game with out you knowing about it. This could be couse i never payed for a membership if you dont pay for a membership they will do all they can too get you out. I have done reviews on chess.com in the past and they are not happy about that. They have been sued over this in the past you are supose too be able too play for free but if you play long enough they will start too run you out of town sort of speak i dont give chess.com any stars couse they dont deserve it after all these years they are the same now as they were then some things never change rod kalman
Answer: Yes, there are lessons, tactics and videos to get your started, plus enough novice players to play against.
Answer: Hi! If you are creating challenges with human players, they should always be another person. However, if you suspect a player of playing similarly to a computer, please let us know their username at support@chess.com. We will submit a report on these players and our cheat detection team will analyze their games for potential use of outside assistance from computer engines. Chess.com invests a lot of staff, time, and resources into making sure that people cannot cheat and use outside help during games. We also encourage players to report opponents who they suspect of cheating, and we thoroughly investigate these individuals to make sure that they are playing according to the rules. To report players for potential cheating directly, please find a game with this opponent, and then click on their profile image icon or username, a drop down menu will appear with an exclamation point icon which is the option to "Report." You can also go to their profile page and then click the exclamation point icon below and to the right of their profile picture. These reports result in an automatic cheat analysis being done on the suspected player's games and are monitored by our staff. You can learn more about our cheat detection efforts here: https://www.chess.com/article/view/chess-com-fair-play-and-cheat-detection. If you are ever again concerned about possible cheating, please let us know here or at support@chess.com. Please also feel free to send us any questions or suggestions that you may have. Thank you! -The Chess.com Team

Answer: You will be charged for the full premium thing after closure, ask staff for a refund if you bought your membership on the first month, they will give a full refund.

Hi James!
I'm so glad you and your son have been enjoying Chess.com and the content we're working on. The Isle of Man tournament was an awesome event all around! Keep an eye out for more great events to come, and thank you for supporting Chess.com!
