I've been running into an issue concerning several of my games not showing up in the search results. This issue began on August 10 and is still going on, even to this day. I suspect that some of my games have been de-indexed/delisted, without reason or warning, and I'm not sure why. I try to be as courteous as possible, I try to follow all the rules, I don't try to make trouble, and I try to be supportive of other devs, but for some reason, it seems that several of my games have been made invisible. The following games that have been affected are as follows: Stranded, Alone, The Mystery Of The Rebels, The Mystery Of The Rebels 2, The Mystery Of The Rebels 3, The Mystery Of The Rebels 4,57, and Pre-Releases, which was the newest one that I had uploaded. This is disheartening, as the purpose for uploading the last mentioned game page was so people could try out the games that I had been working on, if they wanted to. I even added a prototype for one of my other games, but it's not even being seen because of this. It's also upsetting that an entire game series (The Mystery Of The Rebels series) and the teaser for it (57) has been made invisible. When typing in the titles specifically, they do not show up on the site. It's a mystery game series, and it has no nudity or anything like that. None of my games have that. I put so much work into that series, and for it to be made unseen is depressing. I've reached out several times regarding this matter and I have yet to see any response or to see it being resolved. Now, I know that they had fixed the issue for other people who have experienced this. Why can't they resolve it for me? I feel like they're ignoring my inquiries regarding the matter, and it makes me feel devalued as a creative, a game developer, and as an individual. I put a lot of work into my projects, and just because they're not like everyone else's, doesn't mean that they shouldn't be seen. There is nothing suggestive in these games and there is no NSFW content of any kind in these games whatsoever, especially Stranded, which is actually suitable for general audiences, and yet, it's been made unseen to the public. Today, I decided to post a dev log about Stranded, and it did not show up on the dev log page on the site. I feel that my games are being hidden unjustly without reason or warning, and I want it fixed. Now, this is at least the third time that I've inquired about this. All I get is an automated response. It truly makes me feel devalued as an individual.
So, I am a long-term game developer. I have released just one game, but it wasn't terrific. It was just about "mediocre." I am working on my second game and trying to make it as good as possible. This game does get better sales than the previous one.
However, I have used this website to sell games and other game development-related things. It is the best website I have ever used to sell game development things like soundtracks/music/sounds for games, graphic art for games, eBooks for game developers, etc. While the sales may not peak, I have made the most money from this website.
Whatever it is you're selling, you can choose "No Payment" or "Name Your Price," which is pay what you want, as well as add a minimum price (meaning people need to pay this price to be able to access this content, unless there is something there that has a different price in that product, and people can pay a higher price, which is counted as a tip).
The features/settings/API are excellent, too. They request 10% revenue sharing, but you can set it to anything (0-100%), giving you control over your earnings.
They host various game jams, too.
And unlike many other game development websites where there is a minimum payout, this one has none!
On the downside is that the sales just aren't all THAT good. Someone with his website who sells his games and makes a steady income from all his games says that itch.io sells less than 1% as much as Steam does. I wish that itch.io would do something about this little issue.
Great site for finding smaller indie games, I have published a few games on here and participate in the game jams on this site.
Here's my opinion on itch.io. Stay tuned.
I've been on this website for 1 year only, which means this review might or might not be biased, right?
Well, let me tell you about my experience.
Itch.io is great. It's like Steam, but for more than games. You can post books, soundtracks, and software-related stuff. I really like this website, and the fact that you can block people for being annoying. Obviously, if you block someone, you are turning off the notifications for that person so you wouldn't hear from that person. Basically you are muting someone so you wouldn't have to hear them again.
Now for the bad stuff. I really don't like the admins and the fact that there are downvotes on the site. What are downvotes? They are basically dislikes for comments. I hate downvotes because the comment gets pushed down a little every downvote you get. So if I say something critical about the game or thing, and people downvote me, then other people wouldn't find out the negatives or positives of the game/thing. I HATE IT A LOT.
This review is short but explains a lot. I hope you understand what my point is.
I love all the quirky stuff on this site. Also the fact that most games are DRM free. The only downside is that tax is added to the final price (whereas Steam adds it to the default) so if a dev is having a sale and adds the same discount (e.g. 15%) to both Steam and Itch, the game ends up more expensive on Itch.
Found trojans, Java back doors and som much fun stuff to get yourself fudged.
