CheapOair Reviews Summary

The company has established a strong reputation for its user-friendly platform and competitive pricing, with many customers praising the efficiency of the booking process and the helpfulness of customer service representatives. However, some concerns have been raised regarding communication issues, particularly related to flight changes and refunds, leading to frustration among users. While the majority of feedback highlights a positive experience, instances of delayed support and difficulties in correcting booking errors suggest areas for improvement. Overall, the company is viewed as a reliable option for budget-conscious travelers, yet it must enhance its customer service responsiveness.

My 80-year old mother purchased airline tickets, but she inadvertently purchased two for herself and two for my father. Interestingly enough, CheapoAir did not notice that the names, IDs, and birthdates were identical for them, and still went on and sold the tickets. Next day she realized that mistake so, within 24 h, requested cancellation of two of the tickets. Again, CheapoAir's wonderful "system" did not allow partial cancellation of the purchase, so they cancelled all 4 tickets. And, the big surprise, is that they charged a US$50 cancellation fee per ticket, resulting in a $200 "free cancellation within 24 h". DO NOT USE THEM!

Deceptive Practices!
October 26, 2017

Went to their website to get flights for a funeral that was unexpected. Found a great deal at the top of our search. By the time we accepted the flight we realized the the dates were changed. Called to get this resolved. Turns out the deal was deceptively displayed to entice purchase by changing airport and dates. Only indication was some small, bold text saying as much. Then as we worked with them to get this fixed they wanted to charge $100.00 to change/cancel the booking. Buyer beware!

Response to CheapOair: That's well and good, but when you're grieving and trying to get flights out to a funeral the last thing you want is to have different dates to save money. Warning through the process is one thing, but using the minimum amount of visual awareness on the search results is deceptive practice. That's the issue, not that we were supposedly warned (probably with the least amount of visual attention possible). Not everyone is looking for a getaway on just any old day of the week. There are real world needs to be at a place at a specific time and day. That poor webdesign caused a ton of unnecessary stress during a very stressful time.

Brian, very sorry to hear that you purchased the lower fare we offered without checking over the flights that we offered as a flexible flight option. Many people are always looking for that lower fare, and don't always think about checking a few days before or after to keep the cost down. We offer those cheaper dates first, and they are not there to deceive people. We give you 3 alerts through out the booking process letting you know you chose different dates, would you like to continue, and you did. The add collect would be for the appropriate cost for the dates you actually wanted, and if you decline the new flight and price, we do cancel, and have a processing fee per person, again that is also mentioned on our site. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

My credit card company agreed and reversed all charges. The cheapo Air web site will automatically change the date you search to an alternate date to make money with cancellation fees or change fee's once you discover the error. They will then lose the call when you try to change the booking (happened to me twice when calling them.) Then they send you a email indicating you are out of the 24 hr window and can't change or cancel. I had many emails so it was very clear they were just trying to run a scam and I received all my money back.

They charged me $300 to change my flights departure time. Then they tried to charge me $200 because of a typo in my name on the ticket. They said if I did it through the airline it would cost me $300 so I was actually saving $100. I called the airline instead of paying CheapO to correct the typo and the airline corrected the name for free and said changing the departure date should only have cost me $200. CheapO Is no bargain and is unpleasant to deal with.

The airline does charge us a service fee of $50.00 to request the name change and we also have a fee for processing it. The $200.00 was for making the changes and that goes directly to the airline. Customer was assisted by the airline for the name correction, and they are the only ones that can waive off their own fees. Glad it worked out for Patrick.

I had booked air ticket GDL to NY, I paid online, I received a booking confirmation mail but when I reached at airline gate they said we don't have booked ticket for you by CheapOair, I was shocked it was 11:15 in the evening I purchased an other ticked & reached NY, I called up them on helpline & got a mail that your ticket is canceled & we'll refund you if we have charged any amount, an other mail I received where they said that they have not charged any amount from my card detail, Where my bank statement showing that CheapOair have charged USD 303, I sent them bank statement, now they are NOT RESPONDING...

We are very sorry for the inconvenience Sunil experienced. He had a last minute booking and we have a credit card verification process that we go through. The reservation was from India using a credit card that didn't match his name, or phone number, or email, and travel was out of GDL the bank could not verify nor would they authorize the transaction. We did forward an email to the customer to contact us, but he never did. We take precaution when bookings look suspcious, and this is to protect our customers from fraudulent bookings.

Dont by the insurance
October 26, 2017

Needed to cancel my flight due to not being able to go on the trip that I was planning due to unforeseen issues with my job. I was not able to get my money back. They would credit me for any flight within a year but still had a $200.00 flight penalty that I would have to pay.

Cancellation woes
October 26, 2017

We booked a flight and rental car through cheapoair. We had a sudden change of plans and called them back within 24 hrs. Of booking. WE WAS TOLD WE COULD CANCEL WITHIN 24 Hrs at no charge. We was charged 200 dollars for flight and 145. Dollars for rental car + 15 extra dollars for car rental. We bought travel insurance. After i paid for the travel protection i was told that it didn't cover baggage and was told we would have to pay extra for baggage protection. We paid extra to have assigned seats. The travel insurance didn't cover anything. These people are CROOKS AND LIARS. DON'T TRUST THEM.

(Strike #1) I searched cheapoair.com and found flights suitable for my schedule. Upon submission of my request on the website, I got an error message to the effect that my search had "expired". Immediately an agent called sounding to be helpful by offering to sell me a more expensive ticket for the same itinerary because "airlines changed the prices" and that "I have two tickets left on this jacked-up price". I felt robbed.
(Strike #2) They called again in an attempt to again fleece me on what they called seat selection charges ranging from $16 -$32 per segment. I objected that I should not be charged for seat assignment. The agent blamed the additional charge on the airlines. I vehemently refused for my party to be seated anywhere not adjacent to me. Here is the scary part: Even after all that resistance, they went ahead and charged my credit card without my authorisation for seat assignment. If I did not have time to call back and complain, they would not have reversed the charge (which they say will take up to 7 days).

I promised the agent that I was going to tell the whole world about cheapoair.com's sneaky tack-ticks to fleece unsuspecting clients. I will not be using this website anytime soon.

After reviewing the reservation, we did find that the customer had booked his own seats on the flight, and paid for premium economy seats. Our agent did call to help secure those seats, and he found out that when he selected the seats, there were charges, that's when he became upset, But CheapOair did not charge or select seats that had fees at any time. Our agent did contact him to help with the flights. He had an extensive itin and many stops, one of the segments the fare had gone up, therefore the customer was getting an error. We booked what the lowest available fare, and customer accepted, if he thought he could find a lower fare, he was under no obligation at any time to take what the agent was offering. We are sorry that the customer feels that we hide fees, and use trickery, but that is not the case, and he could of hung up at anytime with no obligation to us.

Stay away from this company. They had a glitch in their system when we bought our tickets and did not save our names correctly on the tickets. When we showed up to the airport, we were not able to board the plane. After 3 WEEKS and 8 phone calls we STILL have not found a solution to their error. They tell you they will call you back, never call you back. You get pushed around to multiple representatives and have to tell your story over and over again. Such a waste of time and money STAY AWAY!

Looking for spirit airlines, they can up. They guaranteed best price. Couldn't come up with the flight my son told me about on Spirit, so found the cheapest they showed. Flight prices fluctuate greatly, I thought maybe they changed. When I reviewed my booking it showed the wrong date, a day after I needed to be in Vegas. I tried to go back and change the date but a message can up that I needed to call to make a change. The date I wanted I was told was $250 more. I wanted to cancel altogether, she said the charge would be $50.00. I don't even believe I put in the wrong date, I was very careful because I knew I had to meet my son at the airport, he was coming in from Ireland an hour after me arriving. I booked the arrival date, but had to leave a day latter. Booking now was $197. I when to bed but couldn't stop thinking about it. I got up again and checked Spirit Airlines and found the original flight I wanted arrival and departure for $107. I called CheapOair and said cancel my flight, I'm not paying any fees. I checked the flight I booked with them and Spirit was $20.00 cheaper, printed all the information for their "cheapest flight guarantee" just in case I needed it.

I called them a number of times, explaining their mistake, ect. I sent in all my bookings with Spirit. They charged my account $26.00 and a second charge of $45.00. They didn't cancel my flight and charged me $26 for a no show at the airport I was told. I put in a complaint to Visa. Today both charges were reversed. I spent a lot of time and had alot of frustration. Please not use them, save time and money and book with the airlines.

Customer booked himself online and got confused on what he book, he chose spirit airlines. The next day he wanted to make the change because he saw the flight directly on spirit, but it was a flight we were not selling. He called us to cancel and when advising him of the cancellation fee, he pretty much abandoned the reservation and hung up on us, and filed a charge back with his credit card company. So when he booked with spirit airlines, that old reservation caught up with him at the airport with Spirit,. Not CheapOair.

Customer booked flights online and they were the wrong ones. We offered to assist with rebooking, however the dates he needed were more expensive, so that is the reason why he chose the wrong flights, they were the cheapest. Yes we do have a cancellation penalty, and is listed there to see on the payment page, as well as t & c, our apologies for the inconvenience, the fee is not hidden it's in the acknowledgment box that you agree to the terms and checked the box.

SCAMMERS!
October 13, 2017

If I could rate 0 I would. Booked a flight for my mom and they changed the requested date to another one when we were booking online and did not see it until after the transaction was completed. She immediately called them to have them cancel it and was told she would have to pay a $75 cancellation fee. I think their website is extremely deceptive! Normally when booking a flight the option for flex dates is usually under the options when putting dates, on this site it was not. When picking your flight every other travel website puts the requested date first then the flex next to the requested date so you can see price differences, this one automatically put the flex date as the first choice probably knowing customers will select it and not really notice the date because the norm is having your selected date be the first choice. This seems like some sort of scam so they can collect cancellation fees! Terrible customer service. Stick with the airline websites or another travel website with a good reputation! Wish I looked up the reviews first. Will be reporting them to BBB.

Custromer choes alternate date option that was offered first inline because it was cheaper to travel on these specific days versus the days she needed. All one has to do is continue to scan down the list of flights, keeping track of the dates that are being offererd,. When we could not assist her with the changes due to the fare was much higher, she canceled, incurring the cancellation fee which is mentioned. Our apologies for the inconvenience, but we did try to help and she denied the changes.

I have booked a flight and due to checking in different dates, I chose one with a very long layover, so I called to ask if it was possible to change my dates. The girl informed me that it was and that I should make a payment of the fare differences, but the change itself would be for free within 24 hours after I booked my ticket.
I was not sure about the new dates for the change, so I told her I was going to call back when I was ready.

I called 30 minutes later approx. And a new customer service agent took my call, he was friendly, but told me that the change would have not only a fare increase (which is completely logical), but some fees ($75).
I was shocked because just a moment before I had received completely different information. I told him that the previous agent informed me that it was for free.

After holding a few minutes on the phone, he came back with an answer, which was that we could hear the conversation I had with the girl before; in case she said it was for free, I would not be charged those $75, but if she did not mention this, then I was supossed to make the payment for sure. I had no choice!

To be honest, I am almost sure that the girl said that, but I can also make mistakes and if so, I would apologize, I do not want them to charge me as some sort of kindergarden punishment, with no other option.

I also think that if the girl informed me wrong, they might charge her instead, which is something I do not feel comfortable with.

I would love to hear the information again and see if I made a mistake (I really don't think I made it). But they said it was impossible, it was listening and getting the change done for sure. Completely nonsense in my opinion.

The service has been very good in general (so far), but this situation was not pleasant at all. Something that I think, they can improve.

You book your ticket and then you end up paying for your luggage or seat or anything else at the airport when you were not supposed to pay at all. They put the baggage allowance 0 for international flights so you end up overpaying for each luggage yourself. Spent 100 euros more. Could've booked with other company and paid 0. Never again.

And the update on their answer: i checked all baggage links and guess what? It said 1 carry on - FREE, 1 check-in luggage - FREE. I got to the airport and guess what? "Mam, your baggage is not included in the fare since "you" (cheapoairscammers) booked the cheapest international flight fare."

The baggage link is divided into 2 separate areas reading TO AND FROM USA/CANADA which the customer read. The other link is for international destinations which is the link she needed to follow and bags were not free with this airline. The information is there, and if any doubt, can always check the airline website as well,. Unfortunately this was not reviewed correctly. Our apologies for the inconvenience,

Terrible. Go away before getting scammed like I was during hurricane Irma. They added more than $500 to a flight from Miami to New Orleans I booked to protect my family (and haven't mentioned it. I noticed it too late). They are taking advantage of people's distress to make money.
Since then, they don't answer my emails or keep telling me it has been forwarded to another department...

Comments on their answer: I confirm that they billed me $2,000 and not$1,825.60. They hid that they were adding a huge commission (split into 2 different things) something like 21%. When notified, they told me that it was written on their internet site (but I had called them...).
Their seat reservation system doesn't function, I paid for the seats and had to pay again a second time on the website of American Airlines.
They also convinced me on the phone that the insurance was VERY necessary (hiding that in case of hurricane, flight changes are free).
I agree to start from Miami and also Fort Lauderdale but I left from Miami and this doesn't increase the price
In general, they finally seems to have paid back (but it can last 7 weeks to receive it... in which world are these people living?), which is just normal and they only made it because of this review and because I was about to send this case to Florida General Attorney who is actively fighting against price gouging in case of hurricane.
Again and again: stay away from Cheapoair. It is not cheap, it is just bad!

Dear Oscar, we've had a chance to discuss this with you and we have resolved it. We did find the following when we completed our research that our agent confirmed at $1825. 60 (which is $166.40 cheaper than the price you were getting online, and mainly due to the fact he asked if you could travel out of a different airport which was agreed. The added expenses was you later went into the reservation and added preferred seating for 4 people at an additional cost of $136.75, you also added insurance for $119.00. We have refunded both of these added cost back to you, even though they were non refundable once travel had already begun. We are glad that this has been resolved, and sorry for any inconvenience.

Bob, you had requested seating next to each other, which is an acceptable request. Once the agent finished with the reservation it goes to our seat yield team who assigns the seating. Unfortunately one of the flights did not have "free" seats available only paid seats, and therefore you didn't want to take this reservation,. We offered to change the flight so that you could be assigned seats that worked for you, but you denied the other flight. The airlines do hold seats for airport check in for free. We canceled and you were charged our cancellation fee, which is advised in our terms and condition. Our apologies for any inconvenience,

DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM!
September 19, 2017

I have tried to book with CheapOair 3 times. They canceled twice claiming the price went up.The third time I booked and got a email I called them, they first told me the card was declined, then the air fare went up and they couldn't keep the price, offer me the same flight $300 more than the original price. I told them I don't want the tickets with the new price. I then went to a different company and bought the tickets. Next day I received a email from CHEAPOAIR saying my flights were confirmed. When I called and explained what was going on, they told me I was cancelling and was subject to the airline polices. They ask me to confirm I was cancelling and sign over a email saying that. I am still trying not to pay the airline fee and this is taking me days, on top of that the agents don't speak enough English to understand you. THEY ARE RUNNING A SCAM, DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THEM EVER!

Unfortunately last April I booked a flight with this people to fly from London to Rome in Italy. I even called them to make sure that baggage was included in the tickets price and they said it was. On the 6th of September at the airport check in I had a bitter surprise: the luggage was not included and I ended up paying a total of £82 for two luggages we had! Obviously when in Rome I needed to call the airline we used, Alitalia, and pay again in order to have our luggage sorted for the returning flight... About £50!
I sent CheapOair an e-mail plus another message as feedback but no reply! I will try to call them on the phone but my feeling is that I am going to be very rude because that is what they deserve! I am thinking to call the watchdogs to try to get my money back! They are there to con people! Disgusting! My honest advice is to STAY AWAY from them!

HI Paula, our apologies for the inconvenience you experienced. We have had a chance to review your complaint, and found that when you clicked on the baggage link, you saw bag policy for Alitalia USA/CANADA travel policy. You needed to go further down which would have taken you to the full baggage disclosure policies, where it states there are bag fees for other regions, such as, latin america, international routes, europe. So the price that was charged by the airline was applicable.
