Terrible experience do not bother! Absolute scam artists! Rentalcars.com is a second party provider who just take your money, they do not care about customer satisfaction nor reveal all conditions until after you have already made payment. Be warned that they state cancellation is free, it is not free!
I booked a car using the app and not until I paid was it revealed that you must catch a shuttle bus after waiting half an hour, then travel 20 min to your car. When I arrived, I was expected to provide a $1000 deposit for a one day hire which would take "minimum" 28 days to be reimbursed, Carrentals.com did not advertise this at all. I missed an important meeting that day, the sole purpose of my trip.
Their customer service' is delivered in the form of copy & pasted responses via email with no possibility to speak to a person to resolve complaints.
Save your money and time, don't use Rentalcars.com
Please pay attention to the business that is being conducted by the Routes Car Rental company located at 9231 BECKWITH RD, RICHMOND, BC V6X 1V7; it is wrong and full of mischief.
I had rented a Nissan Rogue for 4 days. The rate for this car and the taxes came to $111.52 US dollars. I just received my invoice and they have billed my credit card for $147.63 US dollars with no explanation.
In addition to this their service is very poor. It took them more than an hour to pick me up from the airport to their location to pick up the vehicle.
At their station it took them more than 2 hours to serve me. The car I rented was not in their inventory, the alternative I was given had the left hub cab coming off. Eventually they gave me a lower model car but they will not change the rate and their explanation was that I had paid them through a 3rd Party.
I went online looking for a car to rent and I found CarRentals.com and everything about that website look like they are legitimate car rental outfit and therefore I decided to rent from them. This 3rd party issue needs be looked into by the Better Business Bureau.
What I saw during the 2-plus hours it took for them to serve me was that no one in line ahead of me got the car they had paid for. Each and everyone was given a lower model vehicle. This is a bait-and-switch operation. They get you to pay for a higher model car online and at the rental office they give you a lower model car but maintain the rate of the higher model car. This is corrupt business and the authorities need to investigate. For me I am asking my Credit Card company to stop payment for the invoice until such time that all the issues I have raised with them are settled.
I will surely report back to you if anything changes but let the world know this is not a place you may want to rent a vehicle from; they will destroy your vacation.
I followed the directions for my 8:00 PM flight and called Economy Office. After 10-15 rings someone answered and asked me to hold. Then many more rings. The alternate number was just a voice mail. Another call to main number had the same result as the 1st call. Later calls, just produced no answer. Incurred extra expense to track down off site office in Folk Inn Hotel. Economy just rents a desk there. People were gone for the night. Calls to get a refund. Economy says since it was prepaid I'd need to contact CarRentals.com. CarRentals said I arrived too late and they could not do a refund. There was nothing on the contract that said I had to be at their office by 8:00 PM or the car would not be provided.
Long and short of it, this is a flim flam company, just out to fleece those of us looking for a good deal. I learned my lesson and will contact my credit card company to dispute the charge.
This is the worst company to use for car rental. I recently booked my reservation in Jan 2020 for June 2020. It was supposed to be for 3 weeks. Things change due to illness and I needed to change my reservation, and I have been struggling to change or cancel. There is no phone number to call and they keep emailing whenever they like. It has been my worst experience. They don't let you cancel the reservation and keep making excuses. They told me to book another reservation and then they will cancel the first one. Still they did not and now I am tied with two reservations. I have been charged twice. It is very frustrating.
*DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY RUN* They say their "policy" is that you have to cancel prepay at least 48 hrs in advance (I didn't see this) but what they dont tell you is that prepay is designed for people who make their reservations LESS than 48 hrs and run into issues where they can't make the reservation. I had planned to visit my aunt Vivian Tolliver on Jan 18th made a reservation on the night of 16th but the forecast in NY called for snow and they took $55 from me BECAUSE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO SNOW IN NY. Their solution tell my aunt (in her 90s) to go to her doctor and get a note to send them... I'm so irate
Be prepared for several hidden fees! They'll say they'll have a car for $10 a day, then insurance per day is double the price, then taxes are again double the cost, then you take an expensive Uber to the airport and you have to have a credit card with $500 for a mandatory security deposit so you can rent a $10 car. HUGE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! I never got to rent the car and they offer no cancellation or refund. They literally just sucked a got amount of money from my bank account.
Writing this review in Jan after renting in Nov as this is how long they've taken to "review" my concern.
My concern: Charged extra fees at the Thrifty counter after paying "total amount due for rental" online. Car would not be released without an additional 100 in fees at the counter. I called, wrote and submitted a claim to carrental.com only to be stonewalled into "you agreed to the terms and conditions policy when you rented from us".
DON'T GIVE THEM A DIME. Complete scam.
I rented a Thrifty vehicle using the CarRentals website. Because I was going to be driving to Park City in winter for the holiday, I specifically rented an SUV vehicle with 4-wheel drive. CarRentals provided me a follow-up email, which included a Thrifty confirmation code, confirming the details on the vehicle and price. However, when I arrived at the Thrifty counter in SLC, the agent informed me that I had reserved a economy vehicle. Despite the fact that I had a confirmation, she said that if I wanted the SUV vehicle, I had to upgrade the reservation that she had in their system. The confirmation code was ignored, and there was no effort to correct the conflict. Weighing the effort to find an alternative rental provider against the desire to get on the road, I went ahead and upgraded. The upgraded vehicle was somewhat adequate, but definitely a disappointing rental experience. (I wish SiteJabber would allow reviews with zero stars... or in this case, negative star rating.) As a result, I will not use either CarRentals or Thrifty again... :(
Be very careful using this company! They rented my family a car from Fox that advertised, "Unlimited miles." They collected ALL FEES in advance (several hundred dollars). When We got to the Fox rental counter they explained that due to "geographic restrictions" the car WAS NOT unlimited miles. Fox refused to give me the car that CARRENTALS.com collected money for in advance. I then contacted CARRENTALS.com and they refused to refund the hundreds of dollars they collected for services that were NEVER RENDERED! This company should be avoidedthey have a blatant disregard for their customers and are stealing money from families for services that are NEVER RENDERED! One can only wonder how many thousands of dollars they take from honest families every year who never actually receive the services (car rental). A very interesting business model indeed.
Ruined my whole first day of vacation from waiting on the shuttle for an hour to getting to the rental place and being charged triple what l had prepaid. To getting home and seeing another 80.00 in insurance added to the price. This place should be burned to the ground!
Paid my reservation in full and you get to the pick-up desk and there is a new bill for 4 times the original price. If you refuse to pay it they won't release the car and the original pre-paid amount is non-refundable. Later they will claim you requested additional insurance and roadside assistance. I absolutely did not, raised a huge stink about it, and they held to their guns that thay would not be releasing the car unless you agreed to the additional fees. This is an absolute racket. I went back to Carrentals.com with all the evidence that this happened and they claim I made the request for additional options. Case closed. If you use these guys you were warned, don't be a sucker
Attention customers,
Had to cancel my Booking with carrentals.com at the location they suggested me to pick up the car.
The lady at the front desk said that cancellation its been processed and the money will be returned on my account.
Called local company also carrentals.com and they suggest to submit online claim.
Submitted an online claim and got an email from carrentals.com that cancellation its been processed and approved but the cancellation fee was the exact amount of money they took as down payment from me.
Called local company and they said that no money has never been taken from them.
Very Dissapointed from the carrentals.com
Booking reference no; *******
STAY AWAY, I rented a car on this website $193, I got to the counter for pick up, mandatory insurance 200 for five days, plus $200 deposit plus $20 credit card fee, plus other fees and taxes that you never heard of, so basically they give you cheap prices, and they catch you on the counter, I called carrentals.com, he was reading what he has to say because it seems it's very common NO REFUND, THEY JUST RIP YOU OFF $193, THAT SHOULD'VE GONE FOOD TO YOUR KIDS
On September 29th my Husband and I rented a car in NYC through CarRetals.com. Unfortunately, my husband, who was the driver, got sick.
On our phone call, dated October 2nd, CarRentel.com's representative promised a refund if we'll get a doctor's approval of his condition.
As tourists in the US, it was highly inconvenient for us to search for a doctor in a foreign country and also expensive.
After we did send the requested approval, the same representative denied she ever promised a refund and offered a credit instead. A poor solution as we do not reside in the United States.
Regardless, my husband flew back home for surgery. In such a severe case, one would expect better client service.
Florida residents CANNOT RENT Mini Vans! Booked for $200 and ABSOLUTELY NO REFUND. FINE PRINT indicates that Florida CANNOT RENT MINIVAN. Scammers! How Sad!
Paid for car and the car rental tried to charge another 190 pounds. Booked at 8.30am to pick car u at 11am. Cancelled car at 11am and carRentals would not refund my one week prepaid rental. These people are terrible.
I reserved a "Pay at the Counter" car and noticed I was charged at the day of the reservation. Carrentals said they don't know what the charge is about, refused to refund me, and told me to talk to the car supplier.
When I arrived to pick up the car, the supplier said they don't see the previous charge either and demanded I pay again for the car. I did, under the assumption it'll get sorted out later. Then the supplier provided me with a very low-end manual transmission car, while I ordered a high-end automatic car. I contacted Carrentals to resolve the issue but they did nothing and I ended up having to use that car during my whole vacation, which was a nightmare.
Before even picking up the car, I sensed something was wrong and asked Carrentals to double-check everything's ok with the reservation and that I will be receiving the exact car I ordered, and they confirmed I will. Apparently they didn't.
After my vacation, I contacted Carrentals numerous time and haven't been able to get a refund for my double charge nor for the fact I received an inferior, barely-driveable manual car. They simply don't care.
I strongly advise to stay away from carrentals.com. This year, 2019 i was in vancouver canada, i booked cars with them twice using their cheapest advertised company, routes car rentals. First time i got there and was told they dont even have any of the nissans i booked on car rentals.com. I was then given an" up grade" which ended up being an old kia with shot brakes and an engine that idled and ran badly. Aw well it was my birthday so i put up with it, it got me around. The second time two weeks later i did the same but yhis time paid a bit extra so i could get a jeep. When i got there though i was told my australian visa card was not suitable for the damage deposit even though i had pre paid the booking with it and used it for the booking and damage deposit two weeks earlier. To cut a long story short i didnt kick the sh*t out of the counter like i wanted to and i went back to my hotel on the bus. Car rentals.com did not answer their ph in three hours i was on hold, it took them one week to respond to my email and told me pretty much bad luck as there is a clause in the rental agreement that the rental company can accept or as in my case not accept whichever sort of credit cards they want at their own discretion. I got ripped off 210$ that i will never get back from a faceless internet site. Dont try and save 20 dollars going through carrentals.com you will lose a lot more. Book directly through a reputable rental car company with quality cars.
Do not use, they charge you once and then when you pick up the car you are charged again. When you try to resolve it with them, they bamboozle you with bureaucracy even if you have the two receipts to prove your claim. Deal direct with car rental companies and not this unreliable middle man.
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Booked 2 months ago and paid. Showed up today, waited 30 minutes in line with my 3 and 5 year old to be told they wouldn't have cars for at least 1.5 hours. Had to take an Uber. Now rentals are more than 3x what I paid since I am booking last minute. Totally unacceptable .
Answer: Carrentals.com is a scam outfit. Never pay in advance. Read the fine print. I have been traveling and renting cars for 40 years and have never dealt with a more unprofessional or dishonest travel company.
Answer: Back in the days they were my favorite website, they were the best, I didn't use anything else. But not anymore, they just joined the scammers and become of of them.
Answer: Stupidity, because everything is so darn expensive in 2022 that it pushes unsuspecting victims over to the "promises promises" platforms, like CarRentals.com.
