Booked 7 months in advance, arrived no car available. They could care less.no service. They replied when I contacted them that the small print found somewhere says no guarantee that you will actually get a car.
What a joke
No wonder all the reviews are 1 star.
Cancelled my booking the day before I arrived with no reason and had the nerve to offer me a new car for three times the original price. WHAT A SCAM
I had a planned trip to Dominican Republic and due to a bad experience when I arrived I was told there were no cars available. Well this time just be sure and booked through car rentals.com with 5 different rental companies two months ind advanced and even couple days before I received an email from the rental company reconfirming my reservation. When I arrived In Santo Domingo I went to the first rental counter at the airport Alamo gave them my name they acknowledged the reservation but I was told did not have any cars. Went to the second company Sixt the samething. Tried the 3rd company Europe the same story. National the same. Finally Fox said that had a car for me but would cost me $ 530 + $2000 deposit for the same car I reserved which I was quoted $170
It is very frustrating arriving at a city on vacation not knowing anything nor anyone just with the the peace of mind to have a vehicle reserved waiting and find out afterwards that I was stuck with nothing. Car rentals.com rates are not honored and from this experience is not a reputable site to rent from
I don't even know where to begin. This company is extremely unethical and fraudulent. I would not advise anyone use their services. My husband and I have been going back and forth with their escalations team (yes they have a whole team for this which says enough) for 2 months on a car we were charged for but NEVER picked up or drove! Then they told our credit card company the $300 was an administrative fee! To say I'm upset and disappointed is an understatement. We will be getting our money back one way or another because we will fight this injustice. This is unacceptable.
I believe they create fake good reviews about their service. This agency is a total
Rip off. Paid upfront 400CAD and could not get my car. Customer service sucks. Should read the reviews carefully!
Would rate -ve if given a chance. Worst customer service experience, Booked rental car, Paid upfront, Car not provided.

Car rental company - Routes car rentals (Toronto Airport)
I booked my car rental 1 month in advance through carrentals.com and while booking I picked airport as the pickup location. Additionally, their search page showed shuttle service from the airport.
I landed at Toronto airport and there was supposed to be shuttle service at 11:00 PM. I called routes and they said we cannot pick you up. You have to come to the location and we guys are open till 11:30 only.
Now carrentals.com. Claim please read terms and conditions as it says pick up is not available after 10:00 PM. Guys are you serious, why search page is showing shuttle service since I have already selected the pickup time as 11:00 PM? If there is no shuttle mark it and highlight on your website rather than having it somewhere in terms and condition and claim that you accepted while booking. Additionally Booking confirmation email said pickup as Toronto Airport.
My friend came to pick me up and somehow we reached the location by 11:40 PM. Outside of their entry gate, it was mentioned timings as 11:30 PM only. I turned back and headed towards friends place for the night. They said we were open till 12:00 PM (Lights turned off, Operation hours board showed 11:30 PM as a closing hour, Website showing as 10:00 PM). Now if you are genius you have to guess people are still there inside the office.:)
Even I called to cross-check outside of the door at 11:45 no one picked up the call.
Next morning my friend took me again to their location and now things got messed up.
First, their staff seemed very rude while dealing. The lady sitting at the front desk said we don't have your booking and its expired. I had booked for 4 days starting 18th April 2019 at 11:00 PM till 22nd April. I paid all the money upfront while booking through carrentals.com. They refused to give the car keys on day 2 morning of my booking.
Thus I had to book another car this time through enterprise for the remaining two days of my travel.
Guys give some extra $$ and book through a reliable source and I would recommend booking in person. There are lots of option nowadays at the airport as well.
Now Routes car rental along with Carrentals.com claiming that if you don't take the car within 1-2 hours your booking gets expired. Thus if you have some flight delay or baggage delay forget about getting the keys through these people.
I have never ever seen such an awful customer experience. Especially through an Expedia group company (Carrentals.com) They even did not help me in this case. Additionally, I don't have words to express it for Routes car rental as well.
Scam rip off didn't get a car but charged me $90 BEWARE! I have gotten in touch with Better Business Bureau! I will make sure this business is taken down!
They have a ridiculous hidden taxes! Bunch of scammers! Please avoid them! I will keep make ppl aware of that as such a scammers ruin your whole experience of your vacation!
The worst experience ever in rentals. SOOOO misleading. Got to the Airport in Galveston and was suppose to have a van shuttle that says bestwestern pick me up from the airport to AVR rentals in approx. 10 min. At least thats what the policy says.
Got there could not even get a hold of anyone at the number I was told to call. So I called corporate and they connected me to them. Come to find out it was not 10 min but 20 min. I have already been there 30 min. Best western shuttle never came. I called again and they told me it was not best western shuttle but a different hotel shuttle which they failed to update me. Waited another 20 min and no one showed up so I was so frustrated wanted to cancel and they would not allow. I did not end up using there rental as it never came and had to book with Avis at the airport and paid $80 more just so I can get out of the airport and get on with my journey.
I RECOMMEND BOOKING DIRECTLY WITH THE CAR RENTALCOMPANY AS THIS THIRD PARTY BOOKING COMPANY DID NOT HAVE UP TO DATE INFO AND VERY MISLEADING ON THE TIME OF PICK UP AND HOURS OF OPERATION. STAY AWAY!
I had the worst experience booking a car through their site. I was not given the car by the rental agency which they opted for me and they are not even ready to re-fund my amount back. During the time of booking, they did not ask for any return flight to my home country and allowed a reservation and now they are not re-funding my entire amount which I paid for reservation. I would suggest people to stay away from these people. They don't even have a voice support customer care and we have to write emails to get their support. My confirmation number is LFXP0976A1
These guys deserve negative stars. Lost my money. Had no car. And their customer service basically told me to f#ck off. Just the most absurd situation. They really do not give a sh! T once they have your money. Buyer beware.
I would leave a 0 star if I could. This company (carrentals.com) are scammers, liars, provide no customer support, and ultimately in the end cost me money with providing me no service what so ever.
Here are the details:
1: They booked me a car an hour drive away that showed to be available. My total was $88 for two days.
2: I am instantly charged $27 for their third party insurance.
3: I PAY $80 to get to the pickup location; an hour away, and surprise the car is not available.
4: I call carrentals.com to tell them what happen and they said we are sorry we can find you an other one.
5: They find the same freaking car, that doesn't exist, at the same place, that has 0 cars available. They tell me to go there. I literally ask "are you telling me to go back to the exact same place, that had 0 cars available, for the exact same car I just didn't get?" She said yes. They literally found the same broken deal on the website I found and told me to do it all over again.
6: I spend 15 min on the phone with the lady as she searched for an other car. She found 1 car, across town, for $180 total, $100 more then my original statement, after I have already paid $80 + $27.
7: I ask to cancel everything and for my $27 back. They said sure, right after this phone call you will receive a cancellation / refund email. That NEVER ever ever happened. They didn't even attempt to refund it.
8: I ask to speak to a supervisor, they said he was super busy and will call me back in an hour and a half. This also never happens.
9: I had to manually call their hired third party insurance company to cancel it myself without carrentals.com's help after they told me they did it and the confirmation of the cancellation was coming to my email.
10: Oh yeah, at one point during this phone call the lady suggested I try going back to the website and doing it all over again. Absolute nightmare. Horrible customer support. Scamming tactics in the sense they get third party companies sells so they get a piece of the pie for that, then don't help with those cancellations when requested.
AVOID.
FRAUD!
Unfortunately I can't give minus stars - in which case I would have given exactly -1500 stars - one for each they've cost me!
Short version
I booked a car, received two confirmations on my booking, only to arrive at the airport and be instructed that the rental company had never confirmed their request for the car I booked and they confirmed twice and that they had been informed of this.
Customer service then told me - go rent a car from another rental company in the same category and we will refund the difference - which we did only to be stuck with the additional cost of renting a car last minute in peak season - exactly 1500 extra
One would assume it's legit being owned by Expedia - but it sure as... isn't.
Thank you CarRentals.com - luckily it doesn't end here.
DO NOT BUY from carrentals.com and their other clone websites - they are crooks. I got fraudulent charges on my credit card immediately after making a reservation, which there is no way to prove, but that caused my credit card company to send me a new card. Carrentals.com refused to update my billing, which made it impossible to pick up the rental care. They STRANDED me in a foreign city because they were literally unwilling to help and perform a basic business function. Credit cards expire and change, you can't present a non-existent card, so any company has to be able to update your credit card billing. They make their website impossible to call and get help, once you finally get ahold of them, they will not help and hang up on you. "Miguel" in customer service (working 11/30 around 11AM EST) was worst, most inhuman, rude customer service person I've ever had to talk to.
My order at car rentals didn't pass at all - not Economyrentacar's fault.
I had a vacation at Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic, I planned everything till I came to rent a car with your company and all my perfect vacation changed.
After arriving at the airport I wanted to take the car I have ordered from economy company via your site, for my surprise, they didn't head about my order and told me that I needed to pay more 250$ (plus the 72$ I already paid on car rentals site for the insurance) and they told me that is the basic package, and I can't take the car unless I will pay this amount -
This amount is not close to the amount I needed to pay by the car rental site calculation -
About 60$ - something they called loyalty tax and more weird stuff I was so tired after my flight of 15 hours.
To the biggest part, they wanted 2000$ deposit from my Visa to hold for the car rental.
The car rentals site told me I will pay 133$ at the confirmation including everything! (insurance and car).
I wasn't prepared for 2000$ deposit, and not for 250$ car rental addition price.
I had trouble to pay for my hotel because all my visa was stuck with 2000$ - I paid with cash to the hotel (571 USD).
Now do your calculation - that left me without any cash money or availability to withdrawal money from ATM at the vacation!
You have ruined my vacation.
The policy of carrentals.com is that you must complete the contract with car rental agency at the exact moment of the reservation or earlier. If you are one minute late the reservation is no longer valid and the car rental can charge you any amount of money for the reservation. Even if the delay was due to shuttle pickup or a long line at the desk if you are one minute late your reservation is null and void. This was confirmed in a recorded call with Luis a superviser from carrentals.com. If you book direct with the car rental companies you wont have to worry about this!
This company arranged a rental through Hertz at a location which was closed at the time I was to pick up the car. After returning to the airport to try and transfer the booking to the Hertz desk at the there, I was told Hertz would not honor the booking because it was arranged through CarRentals.com. I had to pay for a new booking and CarRentals.com refused to refund my original charge. This company clearly is more concerned with a few dollars than keeping customers happy and loyal. I will never use CarRentals.com again and would advise anyone else considering this company to do the same.
Paid for a car that I couldn't rent because I lived within150 miles of the location.
They won't refund me, so I'm paying $55 dollars to give them a bad review.
Not willing to work with a situation does not show great customer service.
The worst experience with renting a car ever. I was sold a car from Rentalcars.com for 35 dollars. When I arrived I was forced to play 185 dollars for insurance regardless I had insurance both on my card and from Rentalcars.com. This site is a shame and a fraud
I rented at car on line with carrentals.com from denver airport to boulder. When I got my email confirmation it had the drop off in a completely different city! I called them and they would not change or cancel the reservation, nor let me talk with a supervisor. I finally had to block their charges through my credit card.
Answer: Carrentals.com is a scam outfit. Never pay in advance. Read the fine print. I have been traveling and renting cars for 40 years and have never dealt with a more unprofessional or dishonest travel company.
Answer: Back in the days they were my favorite website, they were the best, I didn't use anything else. But not anymore, they just joined the scammers and become of of them.
Answer: Stupidity, because everything is so darn expensive in 2022 that it pushes unsuspecting victims over to the "promises promises" platforms, like CarRentals.com.
