I have kept Care.com throughout my son's schooling. I wanted to see if any "really good" tutors would show up on the site. I tried 4 tutors, of which all of them would talk AT my son rather than question his thinking processes. (Learning by questioning which facilitates connections.) They were all frauds except one whom we had for 4 months until she had to get a full time job 6 weeks before finals. So many unprofessionals it was unreal, one used to jab my son with his elbow. I tried to update my son's profile and it wouldn't post, I tried by email 3 times to cancel, no answers until I disputed with Am Ex. Care claimed they needed my correct email address, in which they emailed me to tell this and refused to comply! They knew my email and had the last 4 of of CC#. They REFUSED to stop auto pay.- what? When I didn't want their services, and refused... SCAM - SCAM. The terse letter I received after being a customer for several years was egregiously unethical. It comes from the top, they have horrible employees. Find tutors through your school sites, NEXTDOOR.com or referral. Burned out and paid $$$ to be disrespected as a monthly costumer. STAY AWAY.
The free membership is useless. You can not communicate with caregivers or possible employers without paying $20/month. They are not an honest company. I would suggest that you don't waist your time unless you're willing to pay.
If you thought the site was bad without a paid membership, just wait until you actually pay! This site is completely useless and WAY overpriced. The search criteria are horrible and the layout is very outdated. I'm so mad that I paid for the service hoping I could find an in-home daycare for my infant, only to find that I can't search for that criteria so I dug through the other profiles. I eventually called a few listed on the site and they were all no longer in business, went to voicemail that was full, or wrong numbers. Complete GARBAGE! Stay away!
I was deleted from the site (which is fine) but wasnt even given explanation or given a chance to give my side of the story. I was never paid 654 that is owed to me but the person can bad mouth me.
Welcome to the narrowing job market where your privacy can be subjected to chronic security hacks now and all is ok so long as a law firm and involved company send you a letter informing you. The victims may get $5-$100 and its business as usual since any company can now purchase your social security (as per NY A. G. O). Sub companies steal posing info and repost on their sites flooding the market with false leads. They can't stop this but we, the consumer pay for it. Care.com just began using S. S.#s this past June and that's absurd giving the rampant cyber security breaches. Anything that needs to be known about me can be cross checked through my NY state I.D. Stay away from any company trying to scare you into giving up the last thread of safety in the name of crime. We allow what is legal to occur with our acceptance of it. Companies like Indeed, Care.com and home listing site buy and monopolize all the opportunities so that they can determine how we access it. I decided not to follow through with a dog walking post after my social security was requested on Care.com. Hell no!
I have sent 2 emails about a scam on this site, and not 1 response :( caregiver was victim of scammer
For a website called "care," they don't care whatsoever about their customers.
Their site glitches all the time, delaying showing new messages, and that reflects poorly on my response rate. Thru no fault of my own, my rate drops sporadically bc new messages that came in don't show up.
Furthermore, despite receiving all 5 stars from my clients, I somehow have a lower than 100% rating on the points of "dependable, rehire, punctual."
I spoke with my clients and they are very happy with me and said they gave all high marks.
So what's going on?
Customer service - the number for which isn't even listed on their site - was ZERO help.
They claimed they could not identify a technical error and wouldn't change the ratings.
They refused to let me speak with a representative.
All they do is repeat the same bs corporate line about "procedure" and "it's not possible to change anything" yada yada.
So their mistake now reflects poorly on my credibility and there is nothing I can do.
IF YOU ARE A NANNY, AVOID THIS SITE AT ALL COST!
THEY WILL SPOIL YOUR CREDIBILITY AND REFUSE TO HELP YOU RESTORE IT.
ALSO, PARENTS WILL ONLY CONTACT YOU IF YOU PAY. AND SOMEONE MUST BE A PAYING MEMBER IN ORDER TO REPLY.
ABSOLUTELY THE WORST!
GO WITH SITTERCITY INSTEAD, OR POSTUP YOUR OWN FLYERS.
The site claims to be usable with a basic membership, but as it turns out, all the applications I sent to members COULDN'T BE VIEWED by them at all unless they or I had a premium membership! I thought it was just that they couldn't respond through care.com, and so I sent out my contact info with each application--of which I sent *many*, not realizing that not a single one of them would even be seen. No wonder I wasn't getting any responses.
If you're going to use the site, know what you're getting into. It's unusable unless you're a paid member. We need to find different sites.
I applied for membership to find care for my mother. I kept getting an error message. I wrote customer service and received a reply stating that I had applied previously, was denied because I failed the background check, was sent a letter telling me I had 90 days to appeal, did not appeal and there is no way to open an account now. I explained that they must be confusing me with someone else because I never applied for an account previously, have no criminal record and work with the Philadelphia Police Department. Each time I wrote them I got a response saying they could not help me and I must contact their background check vendor directly. I asked them for proof of a background check, explaining that I am 100% certain none was ever completed. They refused to help, again stating that I must contact their background check vendor. I contacted the vendor and they could not assist me because they stated that no background check was ever performed on me, which is what I know to be fact. I am stuck in a loop. Care.com absolutely refuses to assist me and their background check vendor is naturally unable to assist me since no background check was ever performed.
The applicants are not professional. Bad communication. Messaged me, i messaged back and then never heard from them. Set up appts and never came. Unprofessional site.
We thought we cancelled our membership last year. When we were in a pinch and needed afternoon help we discovered they have been billing our card. I figured to use the service since we have been billed $400 for the year without using it. I logged on and sent a few messages asking people if were available. By the next morning before any replies came through care.com terminated our membership! We called and asked for any reason why we would be terminated, as we both have extremely professioal careers with background checks ect so have ZERO reason to be terminated. Customer service told us they will not give us any reason why and they will send us a letter with multiple reasons why people could be terminated. I already read the reasons online, we don't qualify for any of those. I suspect they cancelled our membership because it was dormant for a while then as soon as we go to use it they cancel. We asked for our money back for the year and that got nowhere. Very unhappy and now I wasted a day on a nanny in an urgent situation. I will boycott care.com indefinitely.
This company is a scam. They tell you they can help. Then you sign up and there is a monthly cost when you can get the same service from a local company or just call elder services in your area. Also the people they do place you can get cheaper by hiring them directly or thru a local company.
Care.com is not a site when you are interested in doing a thorough background check before hiring someone. It's set up for immediate care and I'm not sure if that even works. The process to personally check references and interview caregivers is cumbersome. I didn't find one individual that followed through on submitting references, providing me with their background clearance information and willingness to interview. The website allows you to book someone easily sight unseen. For the most vulnerable of our families, the idea of just hiring someone without personally vetting them is irresponsible at best and neglectful at worse. And, the website consistently warns you to do your personal due diligence but isn't set up to make that process easy. 9 out of 10 caregivers randomly reach out to you but don't respond when you email them back. It's a crazy system. The agencies on the site are the only ones completely transparent and responsive in my experience and you don't need to pay for an agency.
I highly suspect many elder care postings are fake. I received a couple of calls over 1 1/2 years but analytically speaking absolutely this is a scam site.
Care dropped my pro-rating score from 100% to 40% due to a computer glitch. For the last 3 months they have promised to fix the issue with no end in site with this issue. Simultaneously and suspiciously I no longer receive emails from prospective clients. Most definitely both issues are intertwined. I would stay away from using this site. It's worthless full of scammers
Beware of this care.com i feel like there scammers. And the people im texting dont answear
WORST WEBSITE DONT USE IT
This is the worst company ever, no respect on email cancelation, seven times send the unsubscribe and every day i get email., yesterday a call asking for customer service, today no respond yet
TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE
I've been a member of care.com for 6 years and their website has become horrible. I pay $160/year so I can post a job for my 17-year old daughter with cerebral palsy. Care.com has to approve my ad and the area were I'm posting it. They will deny my job posting because it does not fall within their guidelines. They refuse to allow me to post under childcare because she is special needs. They refuse to let me post under senior care because of her age. The best help I have hired has been regular babysitters but because my child is confined to a wheelchair they are only allowing me to post in special needs. This is discrimination against people with mobility issues. There is someone at care.com making judgement calls on who is best qualified to care for my daughter. Isn't this a place where potential jobs can be put in front of potential employees? Isn't it the parents place to make the decision on who might do a good job for their child? Don't potential employees have a right to make the decision of who they can care? I tried calling to get my job posting approved and after holding for over 30 minutes I was finally connected to a lady I could not understand and who could not comprehend the issue. When I asked for manager I was told it would be a process. I tried emailing and have gotten two automated responses. I'm cancelling my membership and going elsewhere.
I attempted to book/contact at least 5 people through care.com within the first 24 hours. All people who supposedly were active in their memberships and logging in. The job was a sweet, easy, very typical house cleaning.
NOT A SINGLE PERSON REPLIED. I don't even know if the memberships were real people. I immediately asked that they refund my card and cancel the nonexistent service. They clearly make their money of off first time subscribers because they didn't even entertain it, and told me that my subscription ended in a month as if saying we can't give you a refund for a product we have no intention of delivering but the good news is we won't charge you twice for something that doesn't exist. I called my credit card company and told them of the situation and they had it reversed.
Watch out for unauthorized upgrades and add-ons to your service plan and beware of their recurring billing. Be prepared to waste lots of time trying to terminate service, delete your credit card info, and close your account. Once they have your credit card number, it's full steam ahead for their billing!
I have been on care.com for awhile - offering services as a nanny, pet sitter and offering elderly care. I have only found 1 legit job. All the other offers I've gotten have been people scaming. Thankfully I only gave out my information once and then learned to see the signs of a scammer. My advice is only apply for jobs with people who have a photo of them or their family. There are some other legit people without photos. But it's hard to find.
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars
