As an individual navigating the tumultuous world of e-commerce, I recently found myself in an unenviable predicament that carries with it an urgent tale of caution for every consumer. The stage? A $539 charge from Lowe's, emblematic of a dishwasher - a modern-day household marvel that, alas, was never delivered nor ushered into the heart of my home.

This should be a simple tale of corporate trust, of understanding and swift resolution; it instead transformed into a Kafkaesque labyrinth of frustration. As the plot twisted, the responsibility of proof had been abruptly and unfairly thrust upon me, the weary consumer. Instead of Lowe's being asked to substantiate the alleged delivery and installation of the dishwasher, Capital One's disputes team demanded I furnish evidence of my order cancellation.

My heart sank. In our era of digital proofs and e-receipts, I was caught in the age-old whirlpool of telecommunication, my cancellation conducted over a phone call, ephemeral, untraceable.

The monolithic institutions I had trusted to protect and serve me, whom I have infused with my hard-earned capital (pun intended), now stood as inaccessible fortresses, their drawbridges raised against me.

Capital One left me in the cold, betrayed by the very system that should be a beacon of integrity and reliability. I speak not merely of my personal lament but for every customer who has ever been abandoned by the institutions they placed their trust in.

Now, you might wonder: Why didn't I reach out to Lowes instead? Great question. I did. Five times during the past month and a half. Every time, after 30 to 60 minutes of waiting for a human to take my call, they assured me my cancellation and refund will happen within a matter of days (apparently because their computer system wasn't allowing them to handle the cancellation immediately. It sounds like AI has taken over Lowe's, doesn't it?)

This, dear reader, is a cautionary tale about Capital One. A solemn reminder to tread lightly and carry a sturdy shield of vigilance in the ever-evolving battlefield of consumer rights. Buyer, beware indeed.

If i could give 0 starts i would. Horrible horrible horrible. I requested a new card over 3 weeks ago SPECIFICALLY for this week/weekend as I have wedding appointments and expenses. After 6 biz days-no card-i called and got "im sorry, idk what happened but it never mailed, no worries we will mail today"... 6 biz days later-no card-i call again and get "wow idk what happened, i see you made the request 2x, but it never got in the mail, let me send it out today". 6 biz days later-no card- i call and am on phone for 53 minutes and all i get is "im sorry but it just got mailed this morning". HOW?! I specifically needed this card for this week and now i wont have it until next week (allegedly). I have no faith i will ever receive this card. And even if i do, its TOO LATE. If you are looking for a credit card company to trust, RUN RUN RUN. Do not use capital one unless you want a customer service nightmare. HOW HORRIBLE can you be to not put a card in the mailbox THREE DIFFERENT TIMES?! Is it really that difficult of a job? And to top it off-nothing has been offered to me. Nothing has been offered to me to keep me as a client or to keep me happy. No rewards/points/etc. All i keep getting is "oops sorry". Keep your apologies because they do not help me or my wedding week at all. I HATE THIS COMPANY. And i will continue writing truthful reviews until i am given the proper attention and customer service.

Credit card closed!
February 22, 2022

I had two credit cards with capital one I tried to pay my cards with my American Express card but here's where it gets alittle weird bcs I was not told once about American Express not being able to pay on my bill, matter of a fact a employee told me to go ahead and try to reprocess my payment with American Express card which had already been refunded four times once in January on both cards and then again just now, but he didn't seem to mention that capital one doesn't accept American Express accounts to process payments, my account is now closed I'm at an all time loss with my credit score this is going to go way down due to just one of them being closed due to their miscommunication, yet alone I was not notified about the account with capital one being closed until today feb 22/22 which they had already shut it down telling me now all I need to do is try another bank and try to reprocess my payments so that way it can maybe be reopened. If I were you I'd choose someone that hasn't gotten a big head on their shoulders. Customer service sucked and the manager the manager tried blaming it on my Bank which is American Express, which if you look on your bank info usually it would show you if a payment was sent back my bank statement doesn't show any of the returned payments or the funds trying to be pulled from this account! So now my credit score suffers due to their mistake!

This is the worst experience I have ever had with a bank or credit card company. I noticed a few weeks ago that two cash withdrawals totalling £380 had been taken from my account. I never, never withdraw cash using a credit card due (a) to the high charges and (b) to the fact that I have more than enough in my bank account to cover any cash requirements I may have. I contacted them to report the matter and they told me to destroy my existing card and they would send me another. They also said they would investigate the fraudulent activity. Initially, they refunded one of the withdrawals quite quickly and, when I contacted them, said they were still investigating the other but credited the amount anyway. They then informed me that they had concluded this was not fraudulent activity and intended to charge me for the withdrawals and the associated charges. I was completely shocked. I live alone and no one has access to my card or a pin number. In addition, in the many years I have been with this company I have never once withdrawn cash on a card. Suddenly they were implying that at the age of 68, having never in my life been involved in any form of criminality or financial impropriety, I was attempting to defraud them of £380 or colluding with someone else to do so. I appealed the decision but they refused to overturn it saying it was "not possible" to reach any other conclusion other than my having used the card myself or allowed someone else to do so. Well, they are wrong and I am both beyond furious, and extremely upset, by this event. Just a cursory look at my account history should indicate that this was totally unusual activity. An almost identical thing happened to a friend of mine with an Amex card a while ago and they refunded the money immediately. This is so wrong, and while I will appeal to the Financial Ombudsman and disseminate the details of this experience as widely as I can to warn others, I am left feeling pretty helpless and badly used by this experience. This company is not acting in good faith. If they want people to use their products they should be prepared to compensate fir fraudulent activity due, I can only conclude, to inadequate safety measures on their part.

I went to deposit a tax refund check on the Capital One mobile app because I assumed it would be quicker and more convenient than taking it to a bank. Not so. It is going to be 3 business days for it to be available in my account. That makes no sense for a mobile app which is supposed to be faster and more convenient than dealing with a bank in-person. I could have gone across town and cashed the check and had the money in my hand the day of but I was fooled into thinking, "Wow, I can just take a picture of it and I'll have the money tomorrow. No problem. It will save me a trip." I expected a 24 hour delay at the most because most deposits are overnight, but having to wait 3 days to have the money in my account is ridiculous. Its an official government check no less so I don't understand why it should take so long to clear. If you have a check that you want to cash or deposit, DO NOT deposit it on the Capital One mobile app. It is way LESS convenient than just going to the bank and depositing it or cashing it in person. I also called customer service number and they didn't seem to give a hoot and told me sorry but it will be available on the 3rd day after the deposit. Bush-league mobile app. If they are going to take 3 days to make it available they should put up a disclaimer telling you so because when people use a mobile banking app, they are expecting it to be fast and convenient. Not worse and slower than going out yourself and dealing with the bank in-person. Its kind of the point of having mobile apps is to make things more convenient. Capital One, you have more than inconvenienced me today. I have no food or money and am waiting for a check to clear that I deposited two days ago. Thanks a lot.

Hold on my credit
March 5, 2022

I've been a customer for almost a year, I paid more than the minimum. Or when it got low I would pay $20, up to $100. Every time I made a payment it would show right now on my available credit. Now I paid my credit card off, through the customer service. After paying my credit card off I checked online and it did not show my Credit available. And it still showed that I old them out. So I called customer service again they told me it would show up in the morning at 8 o'clock. It's now 9 o'clock I just got off the phone with customer service and the manager, they told me that it's going to take seven days for my account to show the credit and paid off. They kept on asking me, why I made such a substantial amount. I advised him I wanted to pay it off. I paid off all together 10 credit cards. And now because I paid this credit card off you guys have been in a hold for seven days I will cancel my card this is not right and I was lied to. I am getting treated like someone Who don't pay their credit card on time. Also they pay their payment and to get refused by the bank so it gets returned none of my payments gets returned and I've always paid it on time all before the time that it's supposed to be paid. I've never had a payment takes seven days. I also advised him after seven days I wanna make sure everything is good on my account and I'm going to close my account. Because this is not right so now I'm sitting here. Over the weekend and I can't even use my capital one card. I told her this is not right. But she asked me again it's unusual for you to make A substantial amount. $379 to pay off my credit card is not a substantial amount. I just wanted to pay off my credit card. But like I told her it doesn't take seven days when I was told it would show on my account at 8 o'clock in the morning. So I'm gonna wait my seven days I told her. Then I'll call capital one and I will cancel my card. Out of 10 cards this is the only card that put a hold on my account.

I have insructed another financial intititution to transfer my retirement IRA account from CapitalOne to them since CapitalOne has announced that they are resigning as retirement custodian and by Jan 10,2022 I have to transfer my money somewhere else.
However, for the whole month Capitalone is not processing the transfer request from that another institution that I instructed to rollover my IRA to claiming that signature is missing on the form. But it is A LIE. The signature is there both mine and the new bank representatives. All is good on my side.
This is very frustrating and stressful.
I am now seeing this is as a tacit agreement between CapitalOne and Millenium Trust to get hold of clients money against their wishes.
I have consulted my lawyer and he will be filing a lawsuit in case my IRA account is moved to Millenium Trust even though I requested it to be transferred to a different financial institution.
And now I am finding out that Millenium Trust Company was a few years ago involved in a ponzi scheme with IRA accounts and there were class action law suits. This is a disaster.
I am sending letters to the SEC and will raise this with my contacts in the media who will follow up on this and make it newsworthy. I am not letting them touch my money. Enough is enough.

I have been a banking customer for couple years.
They closed 2 credit cards because I refused to provide bank statement from my other bank that I used to make a payment from (payment cleared!)
I did provide prove of owner ship from the other bank but that was not enough for capital one.

Do not give them your business!

I contacted Capital One customer service to dispute a charge on my credit card. The item I purchase was not as expected and the seller was not responding. The lady who answered my phone call was clearly "not American" and probably working in a call center in India or one of those places. The background noise was extremely loud and her accent was so thick, I could barely hear and understand what she was saying, especially when she says anything outside her "script". She said to dispute the charge, I would need to provide evidence and I said I could provide evidence needed right away. She said Capital One is going to send me a letter where I will need fill out questions and provide the evidence. I will receive the letter in 7-11 business days. What kind of backward technology is Capital One working with? Other credit card companies will have the representative send you an email right away and you can provide the evidence directly on the email. American Express will even directly reach out to merchant first before asking you to provide evidence. Why can't Capital One reach out to the merchant first or allow me to provide the evidence in an email / account. This is insane, what happens if I don't receive the letter or it gets lost in the mail? She then proceed to mention that if I don't respond to the letter or respond fast enough, I basically give up my dispute. Capital One clearly want to drag out the dispute process as long as possible so you even forget about the purchase and let it go. This is not right, I will close my Capital One credit card by the end of this year. This customer service is trash and worst I ever encountered.

Rip off
July 7, 2021

Customer Service is non existent. You will chat with a robot. When you talk to the rep or supervisor its the same as the chat. Useless. Your complaint will not be resolved. They are trained to say the same things over and over and will just give you headache with their one sided policy. Do not rely on due dates. If you pay minimum even on time they will charge you not only once but twice or 3x depending on their bogus agenda. Basically the due dates are useless, the customer service is useless. Expect to pay and pay for hidden charges which none of the representatives can explain what's the charge is for. Stay away from Capital One. Read the bad reviews. Search for the bad reviews. We are accurate with these reviews. Do not use Capital One. Just use cash or debit card. Stay away from credit cards. Save your money. Every dollar counts.
