Audible automatically charges you every month whether you buy a book or not. If you don't use the credit, at the end of the year you lose your credit. I buy in binges normally when we're traveling so I want to stockpile my credits that I PAID FOR! This is common thievery!
There is absolutely no excuse for dropping the unused credits other than corporate greed. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE! RIDICULOUS RIPOFF!
If you want audiobooks, just buy them individually--they will be cheaper than purchasing a "membership" through Audible. Do not get involved in the Audible mash-up with Amazon. When you purchase an Audible book through Amazon, you can't tell if it used one of your Audible monthly credits or if you paid by credit card ( you pay $14.95 a month for each credit--why would you pay $14.95 for an Audible book that retails for $1.99? Yes, that's right, many Audible books only cost $1.99 and you're at risk for using a $14.95 credit to pay for them!). There is absolutely nothing on the Amazon site that tells you how you paid for a book.
You have to go to the Audible.com site AFTER you purchase the book and the Audible.com site will tell you whether your credit card was used or whether a $14.95 monthly credit was used. This is ridiculous! The only way around this is to purchase all your audiobooks on Audible, but they don't tell you this. You have to do a "Help" chat to find this out. Audible is a complete rip-off. You will end up spending $14.95 a month to purchase "credits" that you will end up spending on Audible books that otherwise would have cost $1.99 out of pocket. There is no worth to a membership at all.
I have always loved listening to books in the car on vacations, even when they were on cassettes. I was a little uncertain though when my son bought me a year long subscription to Audible for Christmas a couple of years ago. When would I have time to listen to a book? I even let a couple of credits slip by before I figured out that I have time every single day! I have a lot more time to listen to a book then I have time to read. I listen as I clean house, run errands, mow the yard and if I'm fully engrossed, I've been known to crank it up in the shower. I have now managed to figure out the local library system so between the two, I keep up with the latest books on the market. Audible does make it a little difficult at first to select and pay since you have to deal with two sites and passwords but once you get past that stumbling block, it's a breeze. And, I DON'T like the fact your credits will disappear if you don't use them within 6 months. I feel like, by golly, I pay for them, I shouldn't be penalized for not rushing my preferred order. Send me a refund if you're going to take back what I don't use immediately!
Don't waste your money on a subscription, almost all the books out there cost less than the cost of a single Audible credit. In other words audible credits are a rip-off and not the bargain they make them out to be. If you do decide on an audible book, they will unsuspectingly encourage you to use your more expensive credit than to pay the lower cost of just paying outright. If you're not paying attention and assuming that because they have a big name and are associated with a well known company like amazon that they can be trusted then you're exactly the target they are looking for. That's why so many people have been sooo disappointed, because so many have been unsuspectingly taken advantage of. So sad, and shame on you Audible! You know better! It's not like they weren't already making money hand over fist, but they had to be greedy and make it into a freaking scam. I'm so tired of companies like Audible taking advantage of the ignorant and preying on the weak. On top of all that nonsense, audible will steal your credits aka, steel your hard earned money right out of your account in broad daylight. That's right, after you've purchased and accumulated six credits because you can't find something to spend them on due to the fact that every Audible book costs less than the price that you have already spent on a credit (so why waste it), they will just take it from you, and you never get it back. Yes, that is stealing and deceptive.
You sign up for the service, try it out, cancel the service, and are still charged for months on end. It's an absolute scam, and the support department is a joke.
I really love it but lately I have not been able to give my own reviews on anything that I have listened to and that bothers me deeply. I thought readers, listeners would have a say.
I did not sign up for service and was charged for 5 months. They ended up refunding me for 4 of the 5 months, which is better than nothing, however they still stole $15.10 from me.
I enjoy this site. A bit of a learning curve, but then it's well worth it
I have a busy schedule this site allows me the opportunity to enjoy books at my discretion.
Audible happily took my money when I wanted to purchase audible books. When I want to take my books that I PURCHASED AND OWN to a different audible account that holds all my other digital content, Audible refused to allow it. Told them all my kindle books, amazon movies, mp3 were on a separate account and that I needed audible to transfer my books to that account, they refused. They also REFUSED to fix their audible app to allow multiple account login. Instead Audible CSR recommend that I purchase ANOTHER DIGITAL DEVICE just so I can listen to audible books from both accounts.
Worst site and customer service EVER. I've been posting to all social media outlets I can find on this negative experience and will continue to do so. Consumers needs to be aware to AVOID audible at all costs!
Do not sign up.
Do not hand over your credit card details.
Be warned if you do and you cancel your membership they continue to take your money!
What a nightmare...
Books cost similar to purchasing the physical book.
Unexplained charges occur on the bank account. There is difficulty canceling the ' subscription '.
I created an account on audible thinking that I would be given 1 free book on the trial, this book was used for school purposes, I had no intent on spending any money what so ever on this site.
Firstly, I noticed that I had been deducted $14.95 from my account the first month after subscription so I read where the deduction came from and I canceled my membership and contract with audible as soon as I found out, this is the second month (28th August) that I have been charged $14.95 EVEN AFTER I had ended my subscription.
I love this app. I love the fact that my favorite books can be read to me. I can listen to them anytime, especially when working or cleaning the house. I would recommend this app.
I signed up for audible.CO.UK free 30 day trial and a few days later I contacted them to cancel my membership. On day 29 I saw a charge on my Cc so I contacted them again. What I discovered was shocking! A duplicate account with audible.COM was created without my consent and without a Welcome message which I received for my co.uk account - the only one I signed up for and authorized. The customer support of both co.uk and. Com kept saying that their systems have no connection whatsoever but how come! So here are my big discoveries and beware!
1) Duplicate account has been created without my consent at the same time in the same day on. Com. WITHOUT any Welcome message!
2) The same book appeared in both accounts as added in the same day at the same time (I have never added it to the. Com account)
3) My billing details were on the. Com account which I never authorized
4). Com started billing me right on day 29 of my free trial
I chatted to them and they refunded one of the charges BUT it turned out they charged me twice and the Customer support agent did not mention anything about the 2nd charge!? Days later when checking the refund was actually processed I found out I was charged twice so I had to contact them again! Once this is over I will have to contact them again to be able to delete my BOTH accounts. Account deletion is not possible from their UI... Sigh...
If you cancel you lose your free tokens for books, which means you have to pay a membership to receive your free stuff. If you cancel, you lose it. Such a scam.
They make it intentionally difficult to cancel membership. And their instructions to cancel membership don't work from a smart phone. You have to be on a computer to cancel.
Your representative ended the chat and couldn't take the time to help me. He took long enough to answer the questions I had and can I say what a terrible customer experience you have
Hey Lee-anne, we're so sorry to hear about this experience. We'll be happy to look into this for you. Please send an email to social-support@audible.com so we can find the contact. Thank you!^WW
Audible Issues. You will not get a refund. They will not warn you before they charge you. $14.95 service is actually $15.96. So, get used to disappointment.
Check your bank they keep taking money even when you unsubscribe. Customer service just states they have no record of you but they keep taking money. Bad bad service.
When i canceled my membership, they started taking the money out of my husband's bank account. After he spent an hour with them on the phone canceling the bogus account, they started taking money DIRECTLY out of my son's personal bank account. Now how they got their bank information must be criminal as my son never once purchased anything from amazon prior to this. He is 20 years old and works very hard in the building trades. THEY ARE STEALING MONEY FROM HARD WORKING AMERICANS. As if we havent suffered enough in this country. WE NEED TO SUE.
Answer: I've had the same problem, they charge me from the US AND Australia so I can't even cancel cos no access to these sites. If you manage to contact them, they should refund you
Answer: Not not a clue but they refunded me all the money back they took out my back so alls good
