Got offer for free trial download of 1 book which I accepted. I DID NOT give my credit card number. Registered through my amazon.in account. No where did they say that I would automatically get ' Gold Card' membership for which they would charge $14.95 every month. Suddenly they charged ~1000 INR to my credit card. No email, nothing. I trusted the company because it is an Amazon affiliate. Have cancelled membership and blocked my credit card. What a scam!

In all fairness to Audible I must report that cancelling my membership was very easy and when I contacted them at *******@audible.com with my complaint they replied very promptly and addressed the issue in the most satisfactory manner

I would still like to know how Audible got my cc information when I never signed up for anything from them. Not even a free trial. The only thing I had done was purchased from Amazon and it wasn't even books! They refunded a closed account but there were also overdraft fees associated with their charges. I am looking into filing a lawsuit. Looks like I won't have a hard time finding others this has happened to.
Started getting bills on my credit card. Called audible and was told I didn't have an account but someone else placed the order. When asked who, they wouldn't tell me. Wouldn't remove charge, but told me they would cancel the account? Had to call my credit card. People at audible barely spoke English. Had to keep repeating and explaining why I was calling.
A friend of mine referred me to Audible. It wasn't an instant hit with me but over a week I actually got used to the idea of hearing books rather than reading them. Lets me relax without actually having to stop everything that I am doing. I still read but for stuff that I need cramming, I prefer searching on Audible first.
I have been listening to books from Audible for many years, probably about 10. I go back to the "pocket pc" days. I really enjoy the service. However, the Audible software is some of the worst I have ever encountered. I have tried Windows, Android, iPod etc and all were buggy. Playback speed spontaneously changes, downloads won't complete, software updates fail routinely etc. etc. Unfortunately, I haven't found another service that offers all the books that Audible does so I'll have to stay for now. Potential competitors should realize that there is a market for a well run similar service.
In reviewing my bank account I happened to see this charge and after contacting Audible.com the rep. Agreed to refund back the full 3 months I had been charged for no services! This resulted from some free trial that I was not even aware of signing up for. It was bundled with another online audio purchase. Ugh.
This is such a scummy business practice!
I installed audible on my phone and selected the free trial option which is suppossed to let you try the service before committing to it. The site asks for a credit card before giving you a free credit which I provided. Little did I know that my career has been charged $16 without so much as an intimation. I was left wondering how this site can charge my career without my consent and knowledge and not be called a malicious site.
As I joined audible to listen to books because of problems reading why is the print on their site so small
I hate audible. You think u pay 14.95 but no u pay 16 bucks. They took money from me when im not evening listening to their books. They're books are so expensive. Like it should be cheap. They inspect u to pay $16 dollars for one book. I hate audible and im not gonna recommend it to anybody but the trash
Calling me naive would be a fair statement. However, the fact remains that I paid for a service I didn't know I was receiving; and I will be warning all of my friends and family to avoid Audible at all costs. When I called to cancel, the customer service rep had the nerve to say that her records showed that I had been a satisfied customer for over a year. I replied by saying, "Is that so? Do your records also show that I have never requested a single product? That's right. None. Because I didn't know I was a member! Once you cancel said membership, only then can you refer to me as satisfied." I fully admit that I have no one to blame but myself. That does not negate the fact that the tactics employed by Audible are deplorable. Beware.
When do I signed up for a membership, that is the way how they do business?
Amazon want to steal money from us. Moving to ebay.
I purchased a three month gift subscription for my mother on her birthday. I specifically said which date to send her the email and got a confirmation email. On her birthday my mother received nothing. I had purchased the gift subscription a few days before. I called and Audible told me that they forgot to send the email. Forgot to send it? What kind of company doesn't send GIFTS on the client's special day? In the future I won't purchase anything from this service.
I was charged a monthly fee without my consent or a billing agreement. I signed up for the free trial, and I never received a notification that I was being charged for several months of a $14.95 fee. I had to pay just over $100 for a membership I never used, nor did I agree to. Buyers beware, it is an Amazon.com company so if you have a credit card on file and sign up for the free trial, make sure you cancel after as you will unwillingly be charged. IT IS A SCAM!
I hate Audible! I love audiobooks but seriously HATE Audible! I currently own over 1600 audiobooks through Audible. I thought it was a great deal when I signed up 7 years ago. There's a flat fee every month for credits, with "most" audiobooks being one credit. MOST being the key word, because many audiobooks at Audible cost more than one credit. Oh, and pay careful attention to what you pay for credits - usually around $12 - because many audiobooks are under $12 and when you go to purchase one Audible defaults to using your credits. So, a $5 audiobook will cost you a $12 credit unless you pay really close attention and switch the default mode. Audible also offers a "Great Listen Guarantee." But this "guarantee" is bait and switch BS. They claim, "With your Great Listen Guarantee benefit, you can return your Audiobooks online with ease. Audible members can return any Audiobook purchased in the past 12 months. You can make returns from the Audio Purchase History page on the Audible desktop site. For the full instructions on how to return a title, please follow these steps... " Oh, but read the fine print,"Note: Members can return a SET [emphasis added] number of Audiobooks using the online return tool as long as the Audiobook(s) was purchased within the past 12 months... If you receive an error or are unable to return your Audiobook online, please contact Customer Care." Apparently, "set" is determined on a case by case basis. So, go ahead and try to return three or more audiobooks and see how far their "Listener Guarantee" goes. I dare you. It doesn't matter if you buy 200+ audiobooks a year. They will revoke your 'online return privileges' and force you to call their customer support and wait on hold 20 minutes before reaching a condescending human to return an audiobook. Let's face it, 33% of the content on their site either has atrocious narration or has other issues (missing chapters, skipping, etc.) that makes it nauseating to listen to and SHOULD be returned. So, their "Listener Guarantee" is false advertising. Audible reminds me of a really bad car salesman. After speaking with one, you walk away feeling slimy and convinced you don't need a new car that badly.
I brought an Amazon Echo from QVC over the holidays & i love the Echo, as part of the offer you were suppose to receive 2 free books, well i only received 1. You only received the 2nd one when you paid for $14.95 membership. So one morning i saw a pending charge & cancelled it immediately thinking the charge would drop from my account. WRONG! The charge went through and my Audible account was still showing cancelled... Ok so i called Audible customer Service & they said they would refund my account. So it's like if you cancel, they still plan on keeping your money~ unless you say something. WRONG!
They directly bill your account through Amazon and fight like a pitbull to keep you from cancelling. The number to cancel is *******051. I had to tell the guy 3 times to cancel it and he wouldn't do it unless i just kept repeating my request to cancel.
They said I must have ordered it by accident. No, I didn't.
Hey Amazon this is bad for your brand.
Audible has a monthly recurring "membership" where you get one "credit" for a book each month as part of your $14.95 monthly payment.
The problem is that if you try to cancel, and haven't used the credits you paid for, they take all your unused credits. That seems very close to "stealing" to me. I paid for the credits. I'm not closing my account, just trying to stop the membership part. And if I try to stop the recurring charges, Amazon/Audible steals the credits that I paid for each month.
And to top it off... the reason I have a membership at all, was that I was automatically enrolled when I tried Amazon Prime. I cancelled Prime months ago, but of course cancelling Prime did not cancel my Audible membership. That is also predatory, aggressive business.
Super disappointed. Audible has clearly set this up to make it harder to cancel a service I don't want, that I didn't sign up for in the first place. Gross. Be cautious.
I have ALWAYS had the best customer service with Audible. They go above and beyond to take care of their customers!
After signing up I realised I didn't use the service that much and there were loads of similar cheaper or free services available. Trying to find out how to cancel subscription is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Don't bother with this, only giving one star as no no option to give none.
Ok, I managed to cancel my subscription via the audible site (though this was more convoluted than if should have been). It was much easier to do than a couple of months ago, I assume in response to complaints.
In all fairness, I should add that the site offered a huge variety of books.
Audible looks like a very fun site. But, why enter a credit card number for a FREE book trial?! I'm not just hating pm audible but, it would be great if SOME company didn't! Please please pleas e change this!
