It does not provide accurate information and a lot of the time the answers are considered wrong even though the explanation shows that answer as correct or the answers are completely wrong. My child has to put in random numbers every time to get the answers right which takes forever. As a engineer I clearly know 6th grade math, and yet I cannot answer a single question correctly. I would never recommend Aleks to anyone as it is not a valid source of information. This issue always happens even with other students that I tutor on thursday's
This website takes away points that you've already earned when you miss a question. I spent 6 hours on this $h! T site today. I was one question away from finishing and I accidentally didn't put a negative sign in front of my answer and added 30 more minutes to my workload. It's a complete waste of time and makes you work until you can't think straight.
Not only is ALEKS the worst and slowest program to complete, it's also the most unfair when it tests you. I'm trying to get into Math 124, but they ask me pre calculus questions on the damn test? Nothing from the study guide was related to the questions that I was tested on. I'm beyond upset that this program has wasted my time and caused me to go through mental stress and trauma. I can't believe they want me to dump a few more hours into their review to unlock the third test--yeah right--I'm not wasting my time on this bull$#*! just for it to ask me questions beyond the topics I've studied for half a month. What a joke of a program. I'd much rather take 96 and spend money on it now than support this money grab of a corporation.
Aleks is the worst $#*!ing program to do homework on. It doesn't teach you $#*! and even if you have the right answer sometimes you don't even get it right because the system is too $#*!ed up to read it right. The knowledge checks are a waste of a couple hours of your life. Each time you do a homework assignment it takes 5 $#*!ing hours because if you get one little thing wrong it butt $#*!s you back to the beginning. I would rather choke on my own $#*! than use this program. Whatever ALEKS employee is reading this, I hope you realize how suicidal your program has made students. Everyone who created this can suck a fat $#*!ing $#*!.
Had to use this at Penn State. They use your knowledge test score to place you in math classes. Once I transferred I thought I got rid of it for good, what a horrible headache it was. Boy was I wrong. My new school started using it as a review for Calculus 1 and we have to complete 70 % of the topics we don't know. They absolutely SUCK at reviewing material and helping you understand it. It is HELL! Don't ever put anyone through this.
Our teacher assigns us to do 10 topics of aleks per week. Which, is fine at first. Once you get to about 25 topics left in your grade, it gets bad. Most of them are terribly taught in the explanation section. And of course, in aleks if you miss one problem, it sends you back. Ever since the 5th grade, I've been scared to click the check button because who knows what will happen. If you do get a question wrong, it won't give you a hint at what you did wrong. So, you'll try to do the same thing again and get the same answer. Forcing you to have to take one for the team and read the explanation, which won't help. Overall, terrible experience with aleks over the years. Bashing my head on the sidewalk is better than this.
Edit: I'm a straight A student and I struggle BIG TIME with this program.
Teachers see the topics as little small lessons that will make you remember the math that will take like 5 minutes per lesson, but this is not how that works, some of the lessons were easy but all the rest you leave for the end will take forever to do, and you most likely not be able get all the lessons done that your teacher assigns because they make you do (at least for me) 10 topics a week which doesn't sound that bad but having to do lessons over and over again is the most repetitive thing in the world. And also 5 hours per knowledge check? And we have to get 3 of them a quarter. (9 weeks) And I'm not just a kid that has all zeros, I always have all A's or B's, and I still have good grades after Aleks, but math teachers act like they are the only ones that give out homework giving all this work.
The fact that people still use this site is baffling. It has made me have severe breakdowns and self doubt beyond comprehension. The whole site is a useless 'learning' tool that does far more harm than good.
This freaking sucks. Instead of helping me, it's made everything worse. It doesn't actually explains the problems. The problems get increasingly harder to the point where it literally takes me an hour to do one lesson because it keeps making me go back and redo it. My grade has gone down ever since we started using this stupid app. It's horrible, don't use it.
Aleks is meant for lazy teachers would rather sit at their desk and drink coffee while watching their students's brains rot away. Aleks is a piece of garbage website that does nothing for kids except make them depressed after staring at a computer screen, forced to try to manage something monstrous. I know this from experience. Anyone that has a kid use this is doing harm to that kid.
I hate this whole program. I told myself I was gonna kill myself because of this sh*t. My mom yelled at me because I punched my screen in anger. I've witnessed so many terrible things in my life, and this is the worst out of all of them. I never learn crap out of aleks. I would rather get electrocuted by lightning then do aleks. Never let your kids get near this devilish program or they'll get depressed, I bet to you they will, aleks makes you feel stupid n sh*t. Burn in hell and suck a big hair ogre d*ck, have fun with that sh*t head
As such others have described this website, it's terrible, the system of scoring is easy to exploit, because that's the only way to truly get past the later questions as somebody not interested in math, or at a college level of math. Teachers who use this... please, do not. As many others have noted, it makes us feel stupid, and dulls our interest in math. Us students, I mean.
I graduated from this mess of a program aleks 3 years ago, I had to cheat my way through it and if it wasn't for covid I wouldn't have graduated using this program, but I did because of online school, thanks china. Anyway very bad mostly because I forgot everything I did on aleks already. But I find I don't need 98% of what I did on there because real life math isnt hard lmao.
Since the school has started requiring ALEKS as homework, I have watched student test grades plummet. It seems the website is frustrating students and the assignments are forcing students to study the wrong material. It's extremely easy to cheat on it and student take advantage of this constantly. It's overly time consuming as well. Horrible for students, teachers, parents... stay away!
It has poor explanations most of them are not as useful and hard to understand, this makes me left with the thing I was thought. When I complete a pie slice it would let me do a knowledge check, and if u did a question wrong you have to revisit it again.
ALEKS has made me feel as though I am incapable of learning. It has caused me many stressful nights, stomach ulcers, and my mother is tired of me calling to complain. I am currently crying real tears. I didn't pay my college tuition to deal with this stupid program that I have not learned a single thing from.
What's the point of a knowledge check so often on topics I just did?
This is the worst online hw website I've ever used please just let me do the freaking assignments and move on with my life. What kind of psychopath created this.
I've used Wiley plus, connect, Pearson, some other stuff I forgot about and nothing fills me with rage the way Aleks does.
This is literally the worst learning tool and experience of all time. It's genuinely so tedious, painful, and useless. The knowledge check takes forever, the explanations are too complicated and convoluted to help at all, you're punished for getting a single answer wrong, and you're unable to actually do your assigned work until the god awful, useless knowledge checks are done. I have never spent more time learning less than I do doing Aleks. I hate this website, I dread it every day, and I cannot imagine a worse website interface. Everything loads so slowly and they are somehow not able to figure out how to code a sticky bar so every time you open the data tab and select a section it jumps your back to the top. So you get to scroll all the way down again. Its also incredibly ugly. I hate this website man. I'm in a college course as a junior in a high school and the only truly terrible part is this website.
This program started out nice but now, I am stressing like crazy and can't get a break. The deadline my teachers set for us is impossible. Here I am sitting at my desk for 3 hours doing 20 topics. It discourages us to try. Every time you git something wrong it moves you back. I have been stuck at 88% for a week! DONT GET IT!
This program has glitches and bugs when using an iPad. The knowledge checks send the users backwards when you have already tested and proved what you knew. The functionality for a 6th grader to understand these questions
Are ridiculous! Stay away!
Answer: Because the ALEKS program is literal hell and we people are just showing our hatred for it
Answer: Most likely.
Answer: Yes deal with it
Answer: Because people want to commit suicide in an original way, and ALEKS is the best way.
Answer: I don't think so but believe me a class action suit would be an improvement
Answer: I paid over $150 for this sumbi**h, I expect it to work
Answer: No i do not think the website owner has issued one but I think the feelings for aleks would be "down the toilet"
Answer: I realize this reply is very late but in case for anyone who needs it: -Let's say you're learning how to use long division. They have 3 questions in it. You master the first one, then go on to the next one. You get the second one wrong, guess what? They punish you and take back your first answer so now you have to answer it again. -How fun! And don't forget the useless knowledge checks!
