Airbnb ongoing mistakes have cost me hundreds of dollars. That's hundreds of dollars more than they have saved me. Done with these clowns

If you have no issues during travelling - you are lucky. Otherwise, there is no customer service if you have a problem.

I was forced to cancel our family retreat reservation(very expensive) due to dire Covid-19 extenuating circumstances involving my family from South Africa, who were not allowed to leave the country due to Covid and my cousin's medical responsibilities as a Covid-19 essential worker in South Africa. I cancelled as soon as I heard that the family was not going to be able to travel to the US. I cancelled 3+ months before our reservation, as consideration to the host so that she would be able to rent to another party. She denied the refund, stating that she needed the money herself. After 3 requests with supporting documents from South Afrcia to AirBnB Resolution Center,(1 each month) and 2 letters to AirBnB CEO Brian Cheskty(who never bothered to acknowledge my letters), all I received was that AirBnB was sorry that they were unable to help me because the host has a 48 hour cancellation policy and she was unwilling to adjust it. I would have thought that, under the financial strain that we are all under due to the pandemic, and the community solidarity declaration of"we are all in this together", AirBnB would have been more pro-active in helping me with this unethical behavior. I am deeply disappointed. Gillian Cassel

Airbnb is not a safe place to Host. They promise they verify renters and cover them if they damage your property and they do not. BEWARE of opening up your home and renting on this platform. They do not offer insurance coverage for damages as they promise. They allow fake reviews to be left up as a form of extortion from fake renters. They are impossible to get a hold of. They transfer you from one person to another and never get back to you. Once you encounter a renter who damages your home, violates your rules, and steals from your property, AIRBNB block you as a Host. Never have I seen such practices. As a Host and user of AIRBNB for over 7 years, I now understand why the fellow Hosts I know no longer open up their homes to renters on this platform. Airbnb is notorious for this behavior and insurance companies have caught on to this and are no longer covering homes that are on this platform. BEWARE IF YOU THINK YOUR INSURANCE WILL COVER YOU IF YOU USE #AIRBNB, they probably will not and neither will Airbnb. So if you make a few thousand dollars but then a renter burns your home down because of careless behavior and not following your house rules, you are out of luck for millions.

RENTERS BEWARE!

Earlier this month I was taken in by a scammer on the website of Airbnb. I found a property in Greece in early June and started querying it with the owner through Airbnb. Having never used Airbnb before I arranged the dates with the owner and emailed back and forth a few times. Somehow he got direct access to my email. Then I received an email different from the one I had used with the owner which looked like an Airbnb email address. The email included an invoice which had the Airbnb logo, dates, confirmation number, photo of the villa, what was available at the villa, including the summary of costs and any extras like a cleaner and then bank details for a bank with an Airbnb account name. The whole thing was very professional and looked like a bonafide invoice. The money was paid and when I tried to confirm something, the supposed owner stopped replying. By this stage the villa had been taken off the Airbnb website and it became clear that it was a scam as soon as we informed Airbnb. This has obviously happened more than once and Airbnb when contacted did nothing. They are very difficult to get hold of and didn't reply to most of my emails. They don't want to take any responsibility at all and there is no compensation as I had not followed their terms and conditions. Why do they not have warnings up of their procedures as you go? I have of course learnt a valuable lesson but I have also lost my graduation holiday in addition to losing Euro1,900 and airline tickets. I tried for 10 days to get a response from Airbnb and they don't seem to care that there is a sophisticated fraudster using their site to scam their customers. They even had the temerity to say when we finally got a reply that they are sorry about our experience and I quote 'we hope you'll go on to have many positive experiences on Airbnb in the future.' Seriously, why would I ever use this company again?
As Airbnb would not help I went to the bank to try and get the funds back this way. The bank eventually got through to the bank in Spain who told us that the Airbnb account we used had now been closed. The scammers obviously know what they are doing and Airbnb don't care that they have people on their site stealing from their potential customers.

Air BnB are a joke! We booked with MARINA at Hacienda Dubrovnik Apartment Sea View.
Address is:
Ulica uz Jadransku cestu 50, Mokošica, Dubrovačko-neretvanska županija *******, Croatia
I STRONGLY ADVISE DON'T BOOK WITH MARINA. She cancelled our booking without any warning last minute them completely ghosted us. No response or valid explication given. I would never use Air BnB again. The hosts have all the power and can cancel your booking at any time without any consequence. This trip took us over 6 Months to plan, I booked flights, transfers, 3 excursions and lost all my money because this horrible woman decided to cancel. Air BnB won't help resolve this either. STAY CLEAR!

This is my first time going through Airbnb for a place to stay while traveling. On Jan 18th 2020, I reserved a place in Scotland for 3 nights and they immediately charged my credit card $662.91. There is a full refund within 48 hrs and 50% refund after that excluding extenuating circumstances.
Under Airbnb's emergency or unavoidable circumstances:
Epidemic disease or illness that suddenly affects a region or an entire group of people. This doesn't include existing diseases that are associated with an areafor example, malaria in Thailand or dengue fever in Hawaii. Any updates to our policy regarding the outbreak of a disease, and the scope of policy application, will be determined based on announcements by the World Health Organization and local authorities.
Travel restrictions imposed by a government, law enforcement agency, or military that restrict travel to or from the listing or experience location.
Safety and security threat advisories issued for the listing or experience location or the guest party's departure location.
Our group met all of these with 2 women were in their 70's and 1 is immunocompromised. Furthermore, the USA has Scotland (UK) as Level 3 Travel Health Notice: CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential travel to the UK.
At this time that the country is going through this very scary pandemic especially for the elderly and immunocompromised, business like Airbnb should be working with people instead of against them. It is inexcusable for this company to keep almost $400 of my money for something I have no control over. They know we are unable to travel and have no recourse other than to cancel our trip.
My advice is to stay away from this ruthless, greedy and uncaring company at all costs. When it comes down to what is more important; your life or their profit, you will lose every time.

Don't rent your place on Airbnb. We used to rent two rooms we have untill one day we had a guest called "Caroline" who was so rude to the other guest called "Molly" and fight with her at 11:30 pm at night. The second day we received a message from the victim guest "Molly" about what happened and when we asked Caroline about what happened last night she was so rude to us as well. We are a family husband and wife and infant. Since Caroline was rude to both me and my wife in addition to the last night guest (who actually cancelled her stay and left) we asked Caroline to leave. She refused and went to work. I texted her at noon asking her to leave when she comes back and that we will refund her the entire day. When she came back at 11:00 pm I asked her again. She yelled at us and refused again. We had no choice but to call the police. The police arrived and escorted her out. Such a terrible experience. However, it didn't end here. Caroline falsely reported that there is a camera or a recorder in her room. Airbnb shut down our account and believed her without investigation or even thinking logically about it. If there is camera or recorder why did she stay at all or even want to continue to stay. If I see a recording device in my room what is the first thing I will do? I will certainly take a picture for this device and share it with Airbnb or at least I will not stay for a minute. Airbnb trust and safety don't think. They contacted us and we told them the story and even sent a video for the entire room and asked them to contact "Molly" to get more information. I don't know what they did but certainly they didn't contact "Molly" or judge the situation correctly. Anyway it is a terrible experience and we will not bring people into our house anymore. Not worth it.
