Within a week of my stay in West Palm Beach for my wedding I get a cancellation email stating that my account is being deactivated with the full refund when I've used Airbnb multiple times They canceled and deactivated my account due to my criminal background I've had Airbnb for more than 5 years and it's the first time ever hearing of it. Completely unprofessional when I've had the Airbnb scheduled and reserved for over half a year to be canceled exactly one week prior 2 hour wedding if I could give zero Stars I would and I will never ever use this app again
To all travelers who may wanna choose accommodation from airbnb, I have a bad experience to share. You can find the link of this dishonest host below.
The host requested that we should not make noise at night, so I always reminded myself and I did not make noise. However, they forgot to tell me that I could not shower after 10pm or the neighbors would be disturbed. After the host told me not to do so in the next morning, I apologized and he accepted it, and I did not do that again. And everything is fine until I left a good review on the host profile. She, the another host, accused me as a noisy guest and disrespectful of house rules, which I am furious about that. Why should I withstand this after obeying her house rules, or maybe because of her mistake to forget to tell me not to shower? Plus, she has a very bad attitude and being offensive when I asked her why she accused me in this way, such as saying 'are you normal or what', but every word I said to her is based on fact and show my kindness. I wish I can upload our conversation here so everyone here can have a clear picture.
The purpose of this post is to protect all travelers not to go for the wrong host. After all we guests deserve to have a comfortable stay, right?

I Live on a private road that is maintained by the homeowners that live on the road...Air bnb is allowing a person that does not live in the subdivision or on the private road to rent his place to whoever and whenever...I have explained to them that this is a privately maintained road and that extra traffic will affect the upkeep...only to fall on deaf ears...I now have up to 5 vehicles making multiple trips ip and down a road that is suppose to be PRIVATE, and for all I know a serial killer renting a property next to me. But WHO GIVES A $#*!...AIR BNB IS MAKING MONEY! $#*! THEM!
I began using Airbnb in 2010, staying in locations across the US and Europe. I have probably had 30-40 separate Airbnb reservations. I finally reached my limit with their unacceptable business practices and will not do business with them again. They take customer payments when the reservation is made and do not give any of that money to hosts until after checkin - so it is free money to them that they can use how the see fit. What is stated as a "Full Refund" in the case of changes or cancellations does not include the Airbnb share. So while the host may give up their share in that situation, Airbnb loses nothing. It is a no risk business for them with the host and tenant taking on all of the risk. And Airbnb's share is significant - anywhere between 12%-20% of the total. During COVID, they increased their markup. They also had stated policies on their platform that contradicted each other depending on which page you were on. They also did not always honor their COVID policy the way it was documented. I talked with 4 hosts during the COVID period and most of them said they would not do business with Airbnb again. My opinion is that Airbnb will become a front man for rentals owned by large corporations. I hope someone else comes to market with a service that allows rentals of private property with straightforward, fair business practices.
Can't pay for the accommodation in local currency, it automatically charges the currency of the credit card, which it ends up making me pay the 3% conversion fee, so unfair, dishonest company! Airbnb should give us the option of which currency we want to pay in! CHANGE IT AIRBNB! NOT HAPPY!
Such a scam, they do not value their customers, getting a hotel is so much better, getting an airbnb could potentially ruin your vacation, get a hotel.
I have been listing on airbnb for about 2 years and it has not been the best experience. First, I have had a guest try to have a party and when i alerted airbnb of the party they canceled the reservation on my behalf. Then they decided two days later to block my calendar to say I didn't have my outside camera disclosed. Which they are full of poop because I have the initial screenshot of everything they make you disclose when you list and it was listed. So now they are saying we'll you didn't say if it worked or didn't work. What the heck is wrong with these people. Per their guidelines you are to disclose where the camera is and I did just that! So now because they had a party at my house airbnb wants to punish me for alerting them. I would definitely place your listing on VRBO instead! They care more and the support staff seems to understand you better and there definitely is not a language barrier to where you feel like you're talking to a brick wall because they seem like they are reading a script.
You have a convicted murderer running an AirBnB and I'm going to be calling all the law firms handling the sexual assault charges against AirBnB and giving them the identity of this person to demonstrate AirBnB isn't running background on its hosts. Then going to every financial news station from CNN to Fox, Fox Business, Yahoo and every Wallstreet message board and show to provide them with the identity of this person to tank your stock
I'm being scamed on airbnb, trying to advert them and get some support and it's completely impossible to get in contact. The only contact you manage to have is with the call center kids who don't undestand nothing, just say you'll be contacted and is already passed a week... nothing! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!
I have encountered numerous damages to my properties and Airbnb finds a way to not charge the guest every time! I have provided receipts, photos, evidence, etc. They find a way! One time they said they wouldn't give us money for damages because the invoice didn't have a company logo on it. Another time they said we should have alerted the guest the charge before next guest checks in. We had 5 hours to get someone over there from the time they checked out to new guest checking in and provide estimate for a sliding shower door that was shattered. We had a guest complain it was 78 degrees inside when it was 50 degrees outside. We suggested turning one of the three ceiling fans or one of the three floor fans on. Didn't matter. Airbnb let them leave after they showered, baked food and hung out there for 10 hours. Full refund for them. They let guests out of their reservations and refund their money EVERY TIME! Don't trust them! I have lost all faith in Airbnb and have decided to cancel all my future bookings and sell my properties. I have SO MANY MORE stories, but I'm sure they'll still find a loop hole to stay in business. Side note... I have 100+ 5-star reviews and I'm a Superhost. I'm sad it has come to this and sad that Airbnb never had my back.
Made reservations through Airbnb for family trip that was canceled by host last minute. I contacted Airbnb to try and resolve the issue since it was reserved through the Airbnb website and after 6 hrs of poor customer service and no attempt to resolve my issue I was left to figure out where me and my family could stay for the night which was difficult since it was Father's Day weekend and the first weekend since Covid restrictions lightened up. So u can imagine how next to impossible it was for us to locate another spot. Long story short Airbnb is a joke of a company that showed me nothing other then extremely poor customer satisfaction. They never fixed the problem and hung up on me numerous times I still have the proof of all our conversations and would gladly provide them to anyone if needed. I'm sure they have provided great experiences for many, but for me was a complete nightmare and that fact that they did nothing to fix the problem just surprised me. All that money and couldn't lift a finger in an attempt for customer satisfaction.
Host, Cheryl st. Pe' (Destin) told me there was a travel ban that may soon be lifted upon me making a reservation and said I could cancel, which I did. Then she denied my cancellation and when I inquired with her, she said that she had nothing to do with it up to Airbnb to authorize cancellation and refund. THIS WAS A LIE! Upon me sending a screenshot where it clearly said, "Your host declined to give you a full refund." I contacted the host again and she told me, " I am perfectly willing to give you a full refund if I had the power to do so but I cannot cancel your reservation on my end." Another lie! She never even sent me the information to obtain access to the house nor did I inquire. She told Airbnb that she would not refund. Airbnb could view every message and see that she said she would refund but she didn't have the ability to do so. All they did was reach out to the host and even though our messages were clear and evident, her refusal to refund was the final decision. Integrity and business practices have a lot to be desired by this host, Cheryl St. Pe' (Destin) and Airbnb.
Have used AIRBNB for about three years now all over the world about 40 rentals. After my last rental and issues with AIRBNB. I will never use this company again. MY wife and I had a rental in Royal Arkansas to visit hot springs national park. The host of the property misinformed use about the address. Would not answer his phone waited out side for an hour and a half after check in time. Host finally called and told us where the key was. We went in side and the place was a mess. None of the beds were made with dirty sheets pilled on top. There where dirty work clothes hanging in living room with dried mud on them. There where ashes in the bath room sink and dried urine on the toilet. We canceled the stay at this point. A report was made with AIRBNB about all of the rules violations and the conditions of the property. We where told sorry we are a third party and can not get involved. I contacted the owner and was told every one else has liked his property and nothing that happened was his fault?. We lost all of our money for the stay. Please read other web sites and see how bad AIRBNB really is!
Customer service does not do their job. I had a trip fail to confirm. It went 48 hours past the deadline. Airbnb never alerted me of any issues. I noticed there was an issuer and reached out to Airbnb. Airbnb continuously told me the host had 24-hours to respond. This is well beyond 48-hours after that deadline had expired. I troubleshot the situation and figured out the error. Fixing the error caused my $40.00 credit to disappear.
Airbnb repeatedly told me it did not disappear and it never existed. I troubleshot the situation and uncovered the credit automatically applied to another planned trip (yes I have multiple trips planned and thousands of dollars tied up in this service and was still treated this way).
After hours of Airbnb giving me misinformation. I performed their job and sorted everything out. Ultimately, I had to rebook the trip. An explanation for the original error was never provided. Airbnb offered no compensation for nearly ruining my trip and for requiring I perform their jobs for them.
HIGHLY DISSATISFIED.
Can't get a refund even though Europe was closed
We had an apartment rented in Paris April 15, 16, 17 2020 and canceled our reservations due to the fact the airlines had discontinued service into Italy. The apartment owner refused to refund our $1100 deposit and Airbnb also refused to refund the money. They said that due to the fact I canceled the reservation on March 10 and not on March 15 or later that I know longer was under their policy of a full refund. Suddenly the cancelation date determined if we were to receive a refund and not the actual dates of our reservation. In fact the actual dates of our reservation were during the time the entire continent including France was closed to tourists due the pandemic. I have nothing good to say about the property owners or Airbnb. Avoid doing business with either one. The B&B is Appartement romantique à Paris au cœur du Marais historique.
In what I initially believed to be fortune to find housing in Houston through airbnb.com has turned out to be a nightmare. I had contacted a host in Houston to stay at his home for a month's stay at a rate of $640, which was a fairly good deal.
However, due to unforeseen circumstances I cancelled my reservation upon three days of stay. Not only was I slammed with the full month of rent at $640, I had to pay another $200 of fees directly to airbnb. I have tried to resolve this issue with the host, who is nothing short of unreliable and sketchy, and airbnb.com representatives, who evade my questions by citing nonsensical bureaucratic terms.
To those who are feeling even a bit doubtful of using this site, I strongly recommend going the tried and true route of booking a reservation through a hotel, or if you are staying for a longer duration, signing a lease with an established apartment.
I am thoroughly disappointed by the lack of transparency and unprofessionalism on both the host's and airbnb.com's part. Please heed my advice and don't make the same, impulsive mistake I have made.

(As of August 22,2015)
I have just been refunded $175 from the host and $125 from airbnb for the fees. As such, I am obligated to acknowledge airbnb's part in making efforts to mitigate problems and cater to their customers, and am thoroughly impressed.
I rented an apartment on Airbnb's website. From the photos and reviews I was impressed.
When I turned up to the apartment the host was in a rush and said that he didn't have time to show me around but said to call if any problems. He gave me the key and left.
When I went to use the kitchen I couldn't find a kettle. I then tried to use the hot plate which was very cheap/flimsy, when I pressed the on/off switch it simply came up with an error message and wouldn't come on.
I had to eat out that evening and is a problem for me because of my illness.
I reported this to Airbnb. Then the host sent a money request after I had checked out asking for full payment of £50 as he accused me of breaking the hot plate. I told him that I had tried to call him but he simply ignored any communication other than stressing for the money. He submitted a photo of the hot plate which showed no damage. Airbnb said that was enough evidence so ordered me to pay the host the money. Airbnb never even answered my complaint about the condition of the apartment.
Think twice before booking through Airbnb because it seems that they'll side with the host no matter what and you could be faced with a huge bill for something you never done. Be very careful. Overall very poor customer service and the system seems to be automated.
I have since closed my account and wont be using them ever again! AVOID!

I have 4 properties on Airbnb. I have tried to contact them on several different occasions about extremely important issues. They do not email or call back. They simply do not care.
I was locked out of my account for an unknown reason. Then, when I went to reset my password, I was told to contact the company. When I contacted them, they asked for my Pay Pal account and credit card information. I have never given that information out and now all of a sudden they wanted me to cough it up. Something sounds very very dishonest in their pursuits. I reluctantly gave them my Pay Pal account information and told them that I was minus (which was true). Then, on February 1,2016, a CSR by the name of Arielle said I was banned for life and my account forever locked out. This was a result of my trying to get into my account... how is that for customer service.
Nasty customer service who I think are very shady and dishonest! Don't bother giving them your business! There are plethora of other reputable companies on the internet that you can go for sources of vacations.
By the way, feel free to file a complaint against this company with the BBB, FTC, District Attorney's Office, and anyone else you can find! Here is their contact information:

Horrible experience. I first booked with Heather in Frederick Md, a "superhost". She declined me cause I booked through my wife's account even though I provided my own license and photo and sent her a message explaining that it was me staying and not my wife. She accepted my reservation and took my money and then declined me so now she gets an interest free loan from me while my money was taken instantly, the refund process is 15 days before I get it back. Second time I tried to book, I created my own account, again providing my license and a photo of myself and a brief description of me. Heidi in Winchester VA. At least didn't take my money first like Heather did but she declined me because I have no reviews as I am new to this site. How am I supposed to get reviews if no one will book me? Then she goes on to say that a previous customer is extending their stay and the changes are pending. That's poor business on the part of AirB&B if I could book a date that is "pending". Also, she was concerned too about me cause her husband works nights and she has 2 small kids. Maybe being a host with no husband around and 2 small kids isn't the best idea if you worry about who you are renting a room too. I guess overall, the money is worth the risk to her and her 2 small kids except in my case. Maybe I should have provided a background check too...
Answer: AirBnB is the worst. You might be able to go to the resolution centre, but previous posts are correct. Watch your money with them. Once they make an error it's hard to get it back. You may have to go through the credit card you charged it to and even then the dispute process might take awhile. Hopefully, you have other money to use in the mean time or the date of your trip is at least weeks out? They are asking you to "verify your ID" so they can gain access to your linked in, Facebook and google contacts. They say it's a security measure to protect you and everyone else but it's not. They are pirating your info. They take your contacts and use it as a marketing tool for themselves or sell the contacts to other distributors. It's very common with sites like this now. If you want to continue using AirBnB you have no choice unfortunately.
Answer: Being a host, I can say that when things are going good, all is great, but if something goes wrong, as a host, you will not get the support from Airbnb that is promised. They do not stand behind their hosts, I find they like to a facade that all is great in the land of Airbnb. I have cancelled my listing and will not deal with them anymore in the future.
Answer: As a host & licensed realtor with multiple properties in both Los Angeles & Las Vegas which I book directly and also have listed with multiple vacation rental agencies, SAVE YOURSELF TIME, MONEY & AGGRAVATION by booking either DIRECTLY with the host or through other REPUTABLE Agencies, such as Roomorama.
Answer: I haven't been a host, but would certainly recommend that you read ALL the reviews here before getting involved with Airbnb. I can't think of ANY business of ANY type I would patronize that got a 1.5 star rating after 382 reviews.
Answer: They offered $25 discount of next booking I just chose to go else where
Answer: You don't. The only thing that you can be sure of is that if you have a problem Airbnb will be unreachable. They hide from dissatisfied customers and hosts alike. You are taking big chances when you deal with them. The benefits just aren't worth the risks.
Answer: No, you would be lucky and have to fight to get a refund if you cancel 1 day after you make the reservation!
Answer: Hello, First, the credit card co. Needs to be notified and will refund the amount spent. In turn, the cc co. Will backcharge. Airbnb is notorious for these types transactions and should be shutdown. Your son has learned a business lesson... research a business prior to do business!
Answer: This is the root of my problem with AIRBNB. They do not check to see if a host can legitimately rent the place they are advertising. In my experience, the host cancelled 48 hours before, claimed she was going to be evicted if she rented to me. I was only 3000 miles from home. AIRBNB offered me a 10% discount to rebook another place. I did not and will not use them again.
Answer: Susan's answer is very thorough and I agree with her. Even more important when booking places outside your country of origin to ensure you don't get a flea pit. Also, always look at the reviews, they are very important. If there is a really bad review, don't stay there. You need to check the locations online as well. You don't want to be in a bad, dangerous area... this just happened to someone staying in Philadelphia. If you have a problem, the AirBnB website is useless. Google the AirBnB customer service number from your location. Renee
Airbnb has a rating of 1.4 stars from 2,083 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Airbnb most frequently mention customer service, credit card and full refund. Airbnb ranks 441st among Hotels sites.
