I bought from a 4 different sellers. 2 I had no problem with the the other 2 were useless. I provided my long zipcode because I know its required for the post office to deliver it. So needless today I didnt get a few of my books. One seller refunded me and said they were sorry for the inconvenience. They couldn't send me another one. The other one was sent back because again the didn't use the long zipcode when I provided it. I contacted them and they sent me another copy the same price and they made the same mistake and didn't use the long zip code. Never ordering on here again.
I wish I had read the reviews on this website before I made the purchase. STAY AWAY FROM ABEBOOKS!
I purchase a "book." It turns out the it was an "eBook," just a CD. It was my oversight, but I decided to inquire the possibility of returning it and getting a refund. Amazon would honor such request as I have experienced in the past. Apparently, not AbeBooks.
The condition stated that it is new, but obviously, it has been on shelf for sometime before as the CD sleeve looks old with bend corners. That's not my main problem. Though.
I sent multiple messages, both to the seller and to Abebook, explaining that I would like to request a return/refund because I want a printed book, not an ebook. I never heard from the seller, although the website indicated that sellers are required to respond to all inquiries within 2 business days. I never heard back after multiple messages so apparently this rule is not enforced in anyway. The messages I got from Abebook customer service was useless and never directly answered my question.
We over purchased a certain book and Abebooks graciously refunded us for each one, without asking us to spend the money to ship them back. Great service and very generous of them!
Book arrived much earlier than expected and in VERY Good Condition.
Super happy with my purchase! It was previously a library book, so the chance the source it was being sent from not being good was slim. Though I read bad reviews, I think you have to look at where the actual book is being sourced from, then make your decision to purchase. Book arrived in 10 days! Wow, I was expecting January.
Abe Books is the WORST! Don't believe their listings as to where a book is coming from! Won't refund return postage EVEN IF it is their mistake or an incorrect listing! They may reply to emails, but then all email communication ceases and you will NEVER hear from them again, even if they say that they will refund you. BEWARE!
I bought my book used for $73.00 from Abebooks. It is absolute crap! There are pages missing, a whole chapter missing, highlighting and writing all though out the book! I ended up having to rent the book online because I am unable to use this book. Please do yourself a favor and do not ever buy a book from this company. The fact that they wouldn't inspect each book before they resale says a lot about how they are running their company! In the first picture I posted, the whole chapter is removed... that is the first and last page! $73... really?!
I have sent books to Abebooks for buybacks and Textbook Rush, and I think they may be owned by the same people, not sure, but they claim the books are damaged and won't pay any money and I have pictures to show the books are in perfect condition... they just steal them and won't pay... do not send your books to them.
Desperately ordered three books that I could not find anywhere else. Ordered them on 10/29/18 all with 2-8 day shipping which meant I should have gotten them around 11/7/18. However, all confirmations said 11/10/18, not a problem maybe there was a processing time that I over looked. NOPE! It is 11/15/18 and I have no books, no tracking info, no updates, no confirmation of shipping, no attempts at delivery, nothing. DO NOT USE THEM!
I only use abebooks when I really can't find a book elsewhere because it's something of a lottery.
Some sellers are very professional but many are hobby sellers who can take literally weeks to dispatch parcels and a very high proportion of books need to be returned because they have been damaged, or refunded because they simply haven't been shipped at all.
In many cases sellers only bother sending the parcel when you start talking about a refund.
The site's order tracking is a joke, and is seemingly entirely cosmetic in design. One learns quite quickly that 'Shipped' means that the seller has the order... nothing more than that.
Given the enormous levels of frustration involved whenever dealing with abebooks sellers I would advise you to exhaust all other options before ordering on this site and be prepared for a long and frustrating wait before your book arrives.
Like so many others book never came. Tried contacting customer services 3times but only the automated reply. I ended up giving up. Ended up getting the book elsewhere so ended up paying full price anyhow. Disappointing as thought found a way to get second hand items rather than elbowing others at school fayres!
No photo as no book
I ordered three books from Abebooks' website late August 2018. There was a problem with delivery and they were returned to the book seller. I was then told I would be issued a refund. The book seller affirmed the refund request, but I still have not received a refund (it is now November 2018). Abebooks has no phone number to contact, and any email I send to it's "support center" is replied by one that says "We will respond to your inquiry as soon as possible". The amount of times I have had to fill out their online request form to get help and been told they will "contact me" is asinine. At this point, they have essentially stolen my money because I have no books and no refund. If you want to keep your money, don't order from here.
Already got 2 books which were supposed to be new but are not new at all. Waste of money. Horrified about the other books I ordered and I am still waiting for. Rly sucks
I order a book for my class and I got an empty box! Contact them many times but they respond after more then 1 month and now they say I am too late. So money gone and no book! Really bad service.
I ordered a $350.00 book for my college class two months ago and still have not received the book. I have called and also been emailing the company for a month. I have only gotten more frustrated!
Abebooks is also associated with TM books. TM books is the actual supplier for my book.
My one regret is not looking at reviews before ordering.
This place is a complete mess. I ordered a book days ago (was given tracking same day of order because I placed it at late night / 2 am or something). So later that day I got confirmation and tracking.
Seller responded to my first message when I asked a delivery date: they stated it was automated and should be within 5 days. Not true at all!
The funniest part about this is that the seller loves ( AN HOUR FROM ME!) and exactly the reason I placed the order with them in the first place. Oh, and the impeccable reviews. The seller had a 5 star rating, haha. Well I bought their lies.
My mistake. I definitely won't ever order from here again. Now that I've been asking what's going on / tracking isn't real questions neither AbeBooks or seller is bothering to respond to my messages anymore.
I can't believe a place 1 hour from me didn't even try to ship out my book. I'm also doubting they have the book I ordered.
After my refund! This is wrong!
I ordered a book form Abe's listed as new condition. It arrived poorly packed from a place in Georgia called "Smell of Paper". The packing slip showed a total coast of 12.64. I paid ABE Books 23.63 including 6.99 shipping. Messages from Abe's said it was new/hardcover condition. The inside flap had a personal note to someone written in ink. It also showed signs of wear and a few spots on back cover. Definitely not new. I contacted ABE's about return and refund. They said to send pictures of the book. This was after another message saying they had forwarded my message to Ergoedebooks. Apparently Abe's advertises books in a certain condition, orders it from another seller, who then orders it from some one else. In my case I doubt the second and third purchase partners are not legitimate businesses. I now think Abe's is not either. I'm surprised they are still listed on Amazon I ddi not purchase my book through Amazon. The hassle of returning my purchase to Abe's is not worth the trouble. I will never buy anything from them again.
I ordered a book in August- it is now October and I still have not received the book nor the refund of $129.46. I have written to "Irish Booksellers" with responses from "asking me to give it more time" to now- no response at all. I regret that I did not look at the reviews for this company before I placed my order- a mistake I will never make again due to this encounter with a dishonest -most probably-fake company.
I paid $60 for a vintage book, limited edition. The "seller" called "Save with Sam" created a tracking number but never shipped the book. Abebooks will not allow me to request a refund because a tracking number was created, even though it is clear that the USPS never received an item with that tracking number. Abebooks' own website shows me that. I paid over a month ago. The seller has been giving me the run-around, offering to ship me a new book when "a new batch" comes in. This was advertised by the seller as a 1978 edition of a book that is no longer in print for that edition. The "new batch" would be a reprint that I am not interested in because the reviews indicate it is much different than the original. I recommend to everyone that you should learn your lesson and purchase your books through a reputable seller with a demonstrated track record of customer service and a real dispute resolution policy that is fair to customers and seller, and not held up in an automated system that can be as easily scammed as the one that Abebooks has.
I have just received delivery of a book from AbeBooks. It cost £12 from them and the only other copy I could find was over £400 on eBay! The book arrived nicely packaged and within 7 days. I'm very happy with their service and will definitely use them again.
I ordered a textbook labor day weekend with a estimated delivery date of Sept. 12. When the 12th past and I never got my book I contacted the company because I also did not have tracking on my book. They did not email back, I again sent another email a day later and received a response, "Wait 24-48 hours" at that time the use of the book was no longer necessary so I demanded a refund. The company stated I could keep the book and they would refund me a partial refund. They turned around and only offered me $1.00 for a refund. That is when I demanded my full amount back. The company made me return the book to them but I refused until they wrote they would refund me my full amount. They are so rude, unprofessional and I will not receive my refund until after they receive the book back. I urge everyone to not buy from this company.
Answer: I've not had the bad experiences of the previous reviewers. That said, choose your sellers carefully. Just as on ebay, etc., check the reviews of the seller. One of the sellers I use often on Abe is Hippo Books. They sent me an email recently that the book I ordered from them was not the advertised quality and that their packers caught the mistake. The book was not salvagable and was regrettably destroyed. They checked their stock and did not have another copy at all. They promptly refunded my money without me having to ask. They were apologetic and I have since then purchased other books from them with dependable and accurate results. Another seller I use is Owls Books. They refunded my money after one email to them when I complained that the condition of the book I received did not match the advertisement. Again, absolutely no hassle and good results since then. I like to use sellers in close proximity to my residence or at least in the same state. Your experience will, as always, will depend on your due diligence as a buyer.
Answer: Avoid this business if you can. I had been told by a Professor that they were a good site to purchase from - NOT! The "Bookseller" keeps changing the shipping date after first denying they even had an order for me from Abe's. Not worth the couple of dollars you MIGHT save.
