About Me

I have been surfing the web since 1996.

How I Can Help

Advertising is fine, maybe even necessary for most websites. Pop-up advertising is never necessary. I'm particularly interested in exposing websites who have caved in to annoying pop-up under or over ads.

Interests

NFL, trivia, music, movies and television.

Here's a great idea for a website where you simply pick one of the two pictures shown that you like best and then that picture gets a new won/loss record. That's it. It looks like a great idea and I spent some time choosing my favorites and then thought I might like to sign-up. But it's not that simple - you have to go through some other sign-in thing called instagram. Once I spend a little time on a website and think it's cool, fun, or useful enough then I don't mind signing up. But I don't want to have to sign up with something else to sign up with the original thing. I guess I don't want to have to trust two services to get the one. Maybe it's just me. Other than that - the website looks like a great stupid time killer (The kind I like) and it looks safe for everyone with no pop-ups or scary links.

  • Mingle2

5/18/11

Judging from the previous review and the Q & A section, the forum is not for everybody. Having said that I actually met a very nice lady on mingle2.com. I have tried many dating sites and this is the only one where I met a girl in real life. ( I have met people through myspace, craigslist and Yahoo I. M. they are not "dating" sites) So if you want to try to meet someone try this website, if you want to try a discussion forum - maybe go elsewhere? The site is safe and doesn't have pop-ups or suspicious links.

  • Cracked

5/18/11

The only thing left of the revered (but always second banana to Mad magazine) Cracked magazine is cracked.com. The site has current original comedy material usually as clever as The Onion. Cracked.com is also now soliciting budding comedy writers and paying for "good" articles. Now maybe some of you can potentially have a revenue bearing aspect to your writing. Cracked.com is a fun safe place to spend some time.

  • The Oracle Of Bacon

5/17/11

There is a parlor game that people with enough movie trivia knowledge can play called "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" it's premise is that any individual can be linked through his or her film roles to actor Kevin Bacon within six steps. If you picked John Wayne, then you would say "John Wayne was in How the West was Won with Eli Wallach and Eli Wallach was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon" so John Wayne is within 2 degrees or has Bacon number of 2. That's if you knew that. If you don't know how many degrees any particular actor is within Kevin Bacon, then just go to oracleofbacon.com and yes, type in any actor and it will compute everything for you and link any actor to him, including the movie titles. This website is a trip.

  • TapTalk

5/15/11

yuku.com is a site where you can start your own online community for free. What's in it for the owners is a fairly non-intrusive ad banner at the bottom of each page. There is quite a lot of customization available. This looks like a potential winner with a fair trade of service to ads. No pop-ups or scary links.

  • Fan Forum

5/15/11

fanforum.com is large forum dedicated to celebrities, television and music. It boasts over 200,000 members and claims 53,000,000 posts. The moderators seem to be very friendly and there doesn't seem to be any links to anything risky and has no pop ups. I'd probably spend more time there if it weren't for sitejabber. I am penalizing them 1 star for the backwards thread format "newest post on top" which really flips my O. C. D. Cork.

  • Jokeyphone

5/15/11

jokeyphone.com is a website where anyone can upload a video of themselves simply telling a joke. The site is slicker and cooler than youtube and easy to navigate. All the jokes are rated as "safe", "alert" and "danger" so you don't have to see something possibly blue if you don't want to. I got a couple of belly laughs in the first visit. Most of the "jokesters" are regular folks, but I did notice at least one professional comedian (Mike Binder). It is safe and has no pop-ups or suspicious links and there is a special zone just for kids. I couldn't give it a full 4 star rating due to the difficulty of adjusting inconsistent sound levels, fix that guys.

  • BookofMatches

5/13/11

bookofmatches.com is a dating type social community that I have found safe, friendly and fun. This website is good for someone who is wary or shy. I joined years ago and am not very active, but the little activity I have experienced has been nice. If you are a little tentative about dating sites, start here. It's free and easy. Not rated a five because I don't like some of the services they link to. (You are judged by the company you keep BOM) No pop-up advertising - thanks BOM.

  • Antimusic

5/12/11

While searching for a particular rock star, I ran across antimusic.com. This site looked like a compelling place to go for music info with an attitude. Unfortunately after about 30 seconds on the site, I got bombed with multiple pop-up ads with video and audio that can not be closed. I can't believe a real rock fan would do this to his/her website. What a shame.

  • 00FreeHost

5/12/11

This is your typical free hosting website that let's you build your own website for free with limited bandwith, their ads (not yours) etc., but if you upgrade (pay) then you have something usable. I couldn't stay too long on this website to check into it further as this site has adwords type (but not real adwords) links to certain text on the page. The first one I clicked on - the simple phrase "free website" took me to a warning page from my McAffe SiteAdvisor to NOT go there.

This site has blind links to dangerous websites according to McAfee.

  • Wikidot

5/8/11

Wikidot.com is a "wikifarm" the website lets you create your own wiki. It is free but they plaster their own adsense ads all over your wiki and do not allow you to put your own ads of any kind. If you pay them, then you don't get their ads and can place your own. They started out letting you have a free wiki and allowed you to place your own adsense ads and took a cut, then after they attracted enough users with wikis they smothered every wiki with their own ads. Like Geocities they made something wonderful and then ruined it.

  • Frihost

5/8/11

Frihost.com is a forum. What makes this forum different is that if you are prolific enough to post enough in the forum they will give you free webhosting. The webhosting is yours to create any website you want. You get a free subdomain like yourname.frihost.net. If you collect enough "coins" by writing a lot of posts, you will even get a free domain name. You have to be committed though, as they will take points away if you are idle.

  • Sporcle

5/8/11

Sporcle.com is an amazing idea and could have been a great place for me to spend a lot of time as I love trivia. It's just too bad that they have ruined it with intrusive pop-up advertising.
