Yelp Reviews Summary

The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

My family-owned construction company was also affected by Yelp's unfair business practices. They make sure the one negative review we had by a customer stays on the website, but then remove two positive ones from long-time customers of ours.

I encourage anyone who has had issues with Yelp to file a complaint on the Federal Trade Commission website about their unfair business practices. This is the website.
https://www.ftc.gov/faq/consumer-protection/submit-consumer-complaint-ftc

Maybe if enough of us take action they will treat us business owners more fairly.

Scammers
June 15, 2019

Scammers! Stop lying to people so you can steal their money. I was told by one of the representatives that he was calling me to help me finish setting up my profile. He asked for my card's info and told me it was a "requirement" to finish up my profile and told me I was not going to get charged that they just needed a credit card on file. Came to find out he lied to me. What you guys are doing is FRAUD

Yelp takes down all reviews of your business and they decide what they want to stay on your account.

My business has 7 pages of non recommended 5 star reviews from all customers with many friends and reviews to some with one or two. Actual true paying customers opinions don't matter instead they pile all 1 star reveiws of ficticous non paying customers in front of the 5 star reviews. I stopped advertising with them about 3 years ago and have watched my reviews continue to drop as my competitors who are now advertising with YELP increase. I will NEVER do business with this company and will push all of my business to GOOGLE reveiws.

I was using yelp to promote my business. A low $20-30 a month rate. Sales rep called to offer a deal on a package that would deliver more business. $150 a month program.

We are a small lodging business is tourist area.

We used Yelp for pay per click ads on their site to make sure we were top of the list.

This is not a big area with a limited number of lodging businesses and few paid to be on Yelp (no competition so ads should have been relatively inexpensive compared to more competitive area)

We are very seasonal here and there are only a couple competitors in my area. I was concerned that in the slow season there would not be enough traffic to each the $150 fee.

I was told I would only be billed for what was generated, so in the slower months I would be billed less.

Instead they just charged more per click to "earn" their fee. Sometimes as high as $12 a click (not a sale - just a click).

I went from paying $20-ish a month for 50 clicks to $150 a month for even less clicks (on average)

After I complained, I was told it was MY fault because I could have cancelled it at any time and I didn't.

I spent $1800 on ads. This has been one of my least performing ad buys this year.

I could have gotten thousands of leads using google adwords for the same amount of $.

Save yourself the trouble - advertise somewhere else.

Automated Garbage
June 11, 2019

We are forced to use this app due to its massive impact with the internet. There automated filter is garbage. There is no costumer service and the company is to coward to have anyone on the phone with you. Anyone can create an account and write a bad review on your company you have worked so hard to keep a good rep with. Oh, and as soon as someone actually writes a positive true review it gets filtered. How is this still ok? Why can't anyone stop them. Why does Yelp have the rights to slander other companies? Yelp will remove your reviews and move them to the "not recommended" section if you do not buy their ads. I run two businesses and this is true for both of them. They claim it is due to their algorithm and the users not having enough reviews or friends. They don't know what to say when I show them users who reviewed with many friends and many reviews. There is no clear rhyme or reason to their supposed algorithm and if you ask them, they tell you exactly that. Also, they deleted one because the user said "God Bless". I am looking into legal action regarding this matter. Don't put too much stake into Yelp and their bully tactics.

Nothing you can do to manage reviews of customers who have never come to your establishment or even had an issue with your business. If someone post something its believed as the truth and it takes a lot of back and forth to get anything done about it. I am done with this company and will never sign up for the app or anything else they have to offer. I hope people join me.

I worked with Chris DeBow, Senior Account Executive with Yelp Inc. He proposed a one month program that would include a 50% credit as a current promotion if we signed up with Yelp. Turns out the credit was NEVER a credit at all, it was actually a "add on" to the package he sold me. I even explained that I was not willing to pay $300/mth and he offered this promotion under the guise that we would actually only be paying half that amount. Upon committing Chris was going to put our Yelp page together and call me back to discuss before the day ended. I never heard from him. I called and sent emails without receiving any response. I finally sent an email cancelling our account effective immediately. Never was our page completed, never did I ever hear from our Senior Account Executive, and I was charged the full amount without receiving the "credit" I was assured I would for subscribing. I do not recommend anyone doing business with Yelp or Christopher DeBow.

Rover Grooming does not let you merely get the dog's haircut. A bath is included in the pricing. If you try to cancel the credit card charge which is charged before you get your service, I was told that you will not get a refund. The time of arrival is an hour window. When I asked for a refund since a bath was NOT given, at first they gave me only $20, whereas a bath is usually $40. I was not pleased with the haircut they gave my Golden Doodle. I will not be using their services.

It's total scum.
June 1, 2019

I never had a bad review on Yelp. Yelp wanted me to by ads on their site. And they have very high prices on clicks, I can get 10-20 clicks from Google for the prices of yelp click. When I refused they put 22 my reviews out from 23 to not recommended. It's total scum.
